Amazing bike shop. They were friendly and knowledgeable. The shop had a variety of options for renting, the E-bike was amazing and helped me keep up with my husband on the hybrid bike. Both bikes were in great condition and they provided helmets and bike locks without additional charge for our rentals. They went above and beyond to help us have a great time seeing Portland, Maine.

Friendly and helpful staff, and a mouth-watering selection of bikes to purchase. I rented a hybrid bike for the Maine Lighthouse Ride 2021. A busy weekend for Gorham Bike with every bike rented out. Personally, I don’t see the point of a hybrid without front suspension, then it’s a type of road bike, and the staff did kindly offer an off road hardtail instead. I stayed with the hybrid without suspension. Someone had to have the most worn rental hybrid that weekend and I think it was me. Still, it took me the 40 miles plus another 6, and is likely a bit more worn now!

Super nice and very helpful! I was out on a long ride when my front derailleur cable slipped loose. After listening to the annoying click for a few miles, I decided to turn back and find a shop to see if they could reset the tension, and ended up at Gorham. They fixed it on the spot, so I came back after my ride and bought some apparel as a thanks!

If I could I would give them less than one star. I have never given a review before but I feel so strongly about this that I had to. I was looking for a particular bike rack kuat NV 2 base two bike rack and found it on Gorham website for $549.99 After confirming they were a legit website I tried adding it to my chart and was advised that I qualify for free shipping, great! However I wasn’t able to keep it in my chart because the system kicked me back to add to chart. After several attempts I decided I would call in the morning. I called and was transferred to Jose who advised that they don’t have it in stock but that it would be in in a couple of weeks which was not an issue. I told Jose the Price on line is 549.99, he advised me that he shows it’s 649.99, Jose told me I would have to talk to Dave in charge of on line orders. Dave was coming in later in the day and would return my call. I waited until just before closing and no call from Dave so I called and was advised they would transfer me however they came back and said that he was gone for the weekend. They advised the best way to reach him is by email, so I email but still no response from Dave. In the meantime they removed the price and the option to add to chart from there website but not before I got a screenshot of my search page showing there website and the price which I include in my email to Dave. I called again and was advised again that he would contact me, he finally did and told me that they made a mistake on the price and would not honor the online price. Good customer service would have been to say to me, yes we will honor that price because it’s not your fault we made the mistake. But sadly Dave didn’t .

In Portland, Maine we are fortunate to have a bunch of locally owned outdoors shops for all our climbing, paddling skiing, biking, etc.., etc. adventures. Gorham Bike & Ski is one of my favorites, both for the inventory and the staff, who is better than most in being so attentive and responsive. Sometimes I enjoy the cool vibe I get from my other favorite outdoors adventure shops, and the feeling like I can wander around while checking out the gear before I need or ask for assistance. But sometimes I know exactly what I want and appreciate when a staff member greets me the moment I walk in and is fully attentive to my questions. Thats what distinguishes Gorham Bike & Ski. Great inventory, and an excellent, attentive and affable staff. Example: I went in yesterday to buy a fat bike. I knew what I wanted, and within minutes a staff member, Chris, had located the perfect bike for me. In the meantime, another staff member heard me make a comment about the upcoming ski season and my plan to lease boots for my son, and he immediately came over and gave me the latest update on this years lease program. Knowledgeable, attentive, and awesome inventory: Gorham Bike & Ski!

Im always worried when I drop new skis off to get mounted. Ive had bad experiences in the past (I typically dont go with the recommend mounting point). Having recently moved to Portland from Boston over the summer I was between here and Allspeed for the mount. (I like Allspeed for mtb work). I decided on GBS and was pleased with the experience and the knowledge of the employees. Turn-around time was 24 hours and the tech called me and left a VM letting me know they were ready.I was very surprised by the price of the mount however. I suppose thats on me for not asking when I dropped them off. But $70 to mount up skis left a very bad taste in my mouth. I figured it would be $40, $50 max. They did have to take the binder off an old pair of DPS I had, so perhaps that added to the price-point. Better than having them in the wrong position and having to shell out another $750 for a new pair.So 5/5 for work. 3/5 for value.

The customer service was not very friendly or helpful. The bikes were set up, but we had to loosen one brake that was rubbing and modify the handlebar height and angle for comfort, all things that could have been done at the store. Then, after spending over $1000 on bikes, they failed to inform us that we should have gotten 20% off the accessories we bought.

After having researched various bikes for 2 months and having spent a couple of weeks researching and speaking to several bike shops, I settled on Gorham Bike & Ski, in general and after reading myriad reviews I decided on the Portland store specifically because of the rave reviews they received. I purchased a bike yesterday, traveling seven hours, round trip. It was well worth the travel! The entire crew was extremely cordial, professional and personable. I was very pleased with the fitting I received from Dave Palese, his expertise and his advice. I highly recommend, (and I am very particular) the Gorham experience! You will not be disappointed.

He staff is great at Gorham Bike and Ski in Portland.Last Spring we purchased new bikes for our family at the store. The staff was great through the whole process.Last Fall, I think it was Dave who helped my wife with her custom fit ski boots. He did a great job taking the time to really take care of her and she really loves the boots and says they are like wearing slippers.Yesterday morning, I brought in my sons Rip Rock that he beats on every day. Ive done the best I can with maintenance all summer but I just cant keep up with him. Michelle met us outside and looked over the bike. When I told her that I needed the bike back today because my son had an all day full-week mountain bike camp starting on Monday she told me that she had some time in her schedule and that they would be able to get the bike back to us today.Paul called me when they opened today and took a lot of time to thoroughly explain to me what needed to be done to the bike and that he would be giving me a call back in the early afternoon when it was ready. When we got down there Owen brought the bike out to us and went over what was done. A few weeks ago Owen also took time to explain to me how to add sealant into my tire and sold me what I needed to do the job. The staff has also helped me multiple times on the phone when I have had questions about working on our bikes at home.All of the times we have been to the store it has been a good experience and the staff is top notch.

Stopped in for a quick visit to purchase a bike lock for my husband and I because we forgot ours at home on our trip. The service was extremely quick! I asked him to quickly look at my bike because it was making a funny noise with my gears. Not only was it in and out within 10 minutes, but he also fixed the gear issue!!! The customer service was top-notch and I would highly recommend for anybody in the area that needs assistance!

I cannot reccomend this place enough. My partner and I recently moved here and brought two bikes with us. One is very old and hadnt been rode in decades. The other was a little too big for my frame. Michelle guided us through the process of restoring the older bike and helped me find something more suited to my size. The restored bike is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. They were so excited with the finished product and so are we! I love my new bike and was able to trade in the larger one for a discount on the new bike. Michelle walked me through how to use the gears in a way that made sense to someone with about zero bike knowledge. Seriously guys go here and ask for her. Shes helpful, knowledgeable and made the whole process a lot less stressful. Also shout out to (Dave?) who worked on my partners bike! 10/10 will continue to come here.

Retail staff is not knowledgeable about bikes. Tried to sell a used speed and cadence sensor to us as ‘new’. The associate handed it over without checking to see if all of the electronic components were still in the box (which they were not); then stuffed additional zip ties into the box and told us it was fine. When we asked for the missing pieces, they went downstairs to look and came back up with pieces still missing. Not going back.

Bought a new bike here. Good experience with the staff. Id already decided what model I wanted, but they were really easy to work with on checking fit, picking out extra gear (lock, rack, etc.). Very much appreciate their care regarding the virus: parking lot, tent out back, sanitizing. I saw them treating other customers with respect and I appreciate that too.

After several years of lusting over my dream mountain bike, I decided to build something I could hold on to and not succumb to the ever-changing onslaught of NEW! BETTER! LIGHTER! that denotes the mountain biking industry.After getting to know Dave from the community, I knew he was the right man for the job. His knowledge of all the finite details that make him an incredible mechanic appears to come from the practice hes put into his craft.I picked his brain on every aspect, and the amount of education he holds within his head is uncanny. Needless to say, Dave built my bike (most of which was not purchased at Gorham Bike and Ski, mind you) better than I could have ever hoped.So yeah, if you need a great mechanic who will make you feel like a superstar on your bike, go see Dave.

Bought my first real mountain bike from Gorham. Initially it was my only option due to the COVID biking craze. I feel fortunately. They have provided great customer service since day 1. Little bit of a hike, since I live in Boston, but well worth the trips I have made!

I am not a set and forget buyer. I am an older prior avid rider getting back into the scene and I have a 14yo that is progressing all the time. We buy used and we break stuff. GBS has helped us several times in replacement of rare parts, or were straight up about something not being able to be replaced and guided to an alternative. They clearly care about the customer, and while they have to make money they hear where the customer is at and provide real human advice, not a sales pitch.

This week I traded my daughters old mountain bike in for a new one. With everything going on in the world right now, Gorham Bike and Ski went way above and beyond for us. We dropped my daughters bike off outside and called into the store. They came out and grabbed it and I had my appraisal within the hour. The next day they placed the new bike outside after they disinfected it and I was simply to grab it. No interaction besides on the phone. Very easy and great service. I purchased a bike from a private party and Gorham was involved in packaging up the bike and sending it off to me through bike flights. In the process the dropper seat post was not sent. I emailed Gorham and by the next morning I had already received a phone call as well as an email stating they were going to have a new dropper seat post and seat sent so I could still go on my trip. If I didnt live in Arizona this would be my primary bike shop. Beyond Excellent customer service even when a slight mistake was made.

You are not going to find better customer service. Cycling and skiing (really any sport/hobby) are often marred by prima donna types who can’t be bothered with the less than expert. I’m super savvy with bikes and spankin’ new to back country skis, and I find these people meet you where you are with respect and enthusiasm. Whether you’re laying out significant cash for a new rig or ski setup or just rolling your kid’s bike in for a minor repair or a seasonal rental, they treat their customers in a way that makes you think, Amazon who?? I love this shop.

Its hard to know where to start with this glowing review because my entire experience with Gorham Bike & Ski in Portland was phenomenal. First, the customer service provided by Colin regarding Specialized bikes was unmatched. He took my phone call and was patient with my questions, and made me feel as if I were in the store with him, assessing bike options--both in stock and ones they could order. Id done a lot of research on my own and easily decided on the Specialized Diverge, which is a perfect starter road bike and I couldnt be happier.I purchased the Diverge over the phone as it was the last one in stock since COVID-19 has created a shortage in supply for 2020 models and the anticipated 2021 models. I dont live in the city and had some limitations with picking up the bike at Portland so the manager, Dave, drove the bike to my house--60 miles north of the Portlands Gorham Bike & Ski facility. Granted, my hometown is close-ish to his hometown, but he still drove an hour out of his day to hand-deliver my bike and present it with care.So, yeah. These guys know everything there is to know about bikes, but they also want to see customers in the right bikes. That matters. After purchasing the bike, they offered a free tune-up at 30 days after purchase. Its a rare experience to find such dedicated, professional and kind salespeople across the full shopping experience these days so head here first. You wont need to go anywhere else.

Being that this was going to be my first bike purchase in about 2 decades, I was nervous. Turns out I nothing to worry about!First, Anna at the Kennebunk location is superb. I got to the shop at about 5:30, so I was worried about interfering with closing / being rushed. But she was focused on me, took the time I needed, answered all my questions (and I had plenty!) with clarity, anticipated my next question, and I was the most important person in her world during my visit to the Kennebunk store.Second, Cam delivered the bike to my door, and he accommodated my schedule, answered more questions, and even took a great pic of me with the bike for fun!This is a superb business!

Worked with Michelle to upgrade my road bike to a newer model. The color they had in stock was not one that I preferred, Gorham Bike had my new one in and assembled in a week. In addition, I live close enough that I can bring my bikes over when I have minor issues and they have been able to take care of them on site. Great customer service.

I was able to get my bike delivered after ordering it online. A nice touch considering how challenging the social distancing can be. The team was helpful from order to delivery.

Top notch customer service when I needed to ship my bike from Wisconsin to Maine for the Ironman 70.3 at Old Orchard Beach! Dave even went out of his way to directly contact my local shop to get the missing paperwork to return the bike post-race, with speedy disassembly and pack up to help get it home in time for my *next* race thats only a few days away. The Gold VIP service was worth every penny, too; the pre-race tune up had my bike riding like BUTTAH, and I rode a personal best on the 56 mile course. Huge thanks to all of the guys at the shop for taking the stress out of the bike logistics for my race!

Got a new bike from the Saco shop for my daughters birthday during the COVID closures. We ordered according to the manufacturers size guide for height and it ended up being too large when we picked it up on said birthday. We were able to call that same day and arrange a replacement. The employees assembled a smaller one for us to pick up by the end of the same day, while they were slammed. A+ shop, highly recommended!

My wife and I rented bikes from Gorham recently. The staff person was excellent, very helpful, extremely informative and knowledgeable. It was a truly pleasant experience to do business with this bike shop!5 stars from me! This is a well run business.

We originally booked and prepaid for a Tuesday reservation, but were too jet lagged to make it. We called that morning and they easily changed it to Thursday. When we walked in Thursday, the bikes were ready. The two guys working there were very helpful. One even gave us a 12.5-mi route we could take from the store to see 3 lighthouses. Warning, though, you still need GPS to find these things. Some routes seem to have changed since the maps were created. The free helmets and bike lock were great too. These bikes were light and very well maintained, worth the $70 fee for the day.

Reset both tires and got me set up with some critical gear for the ride. I was only at the Maine house for two more days before the return to Indiana and I was back out riding before noon. The Service Manager, Dave A is the best in town. Not only does he take pride in his work and has a love for biking, he used to work on heavy machinery. Dave has a ton of experience and is super fast. Being someone who races and bangs on my bike, I want things done quick and fixed right... the first time... Love Daves work and wouldnt go anywhere else when getting my high end bikes fixed.

Bought a new Stumpjumper at the Portland store after they set me up with a demo the week before. Everything about my experience was flawless. The staff was great and welcoming. Range helped me with bike/suspension setup both times once by gut and once using Specialized recommend settings for height/weight. The gut settings suited me much better. This is definitely my new LBS.

I want to thank all of the sales staff and the service staff at the Portland store for their help in my purchasing a bicycle for my wife. The sales team did a wonderful job of letting her try out various models of the bicycles so that she was comfortable in her purchase decision. Their knowledge and patience with us made the process a very enjoyable time. I know that one of the team has a last name of Paine. I also want to thank Graham in the service department for his help in servicing my bicycle. Graham called on Sunday to let me know of an issue that he found while doing a basic service and was GREAT is explaining it to me. He then let me know that I could pick up both bicycles later on that afternoon which was a great help. My thanks again to the whole staff at the Portland store for their help and knowledge.

Wonderful shop! Katie helped me and went above and beyond to get me back on my bicycle. I am forever grateful.I just flew into Portland to bike down the East coast with the Fuller Center Bicycle Adventure. My bike had been packed and shipped by Bicycle Bobs in Santa Barbara, California. Unfortunately, they did not get my front wheel axle packed. It is a very Giant specific bike part. Katie contacted Giant and was able to procure the proprietary piece for me so that I could start my cycling adventure.

I got a new bike and had it fitted by Dave Palese at Gorham Bike & ski and could not be happier. Obviously, the new bike helped, but riding it after the fitting was amazing. I have been riding year round, indoor and out, on at least 5 different bikes and several fittings,over that time, and have never been more comfortable, or enjoyed riding more than now. Ive always loved to ride and was very surprised to find out that it could get even this much better after 27 years. I strongly recommend a bike fitting with Dave at Gotham B&S.

In my opinion Dave Albert is the best mechanic in town, as long as hes at Gorham bike and ski I wont have my bike serviced anywhere else. The passion Dave has for mountain biking is shown through his meticulous and detailed work, no job is too difficult. I have had nothing but great experiences at this shop.

Highly recommend this shop! I rented a road bike for 10 days for a 400k bike tour in NS. Range, the manager, was extremely helpful. He listened and fixed all the issues I was having. Aside from the great customer service, the bike performed well. Their rentable road bikes are Giant Connects. It was a smooth ride with disc brakes. Perfect for touring!

Just had a great experience with Gorham Bike and Ski. I came in to lease a ski package for 2 of my kids and they were out of their sizes in the store. Chris took my number and called around to the other stores and a few hours later called me to let me know he had found everything we needed at a few other stores and they would be sending it over. Easy peasey...great communication and service from Chris!

I came in from the west coast looking to rent a bike for a tour up to Acadia. Kyle was my main point of contact for the bike rental and set-up and did everything in his power to ensure that I would be comfortable and happy with the ride. Steve offered his advice on route options and had me traveling down some amazing, beautiful, quintessentially Maine-type roads that just made the trip. On my return they even let me use their staff shower to clean up after so long on the road and never once did they hesitate to help me out in any way that they could. These guys are a great shop that really does well in keeping to that local bike shop feel, vibe and service. Thanks for everything fellas!

I love this store! One of the few stores in downtown Portland to offer free parking. Two convenient entrances, bright and clean. The staff had been always friendly to me, always positive and smiling. The dont just talk the talk... they walk it, from advocacy to weekly rides, from long distance trail finishers to Strava warriors. My favorite technician is Dave Albert. I love these guys! My wife and I ride a lot, both road and mountain bikes, and Gorham bike keeps everything in great shape. Plus, they are really nice people and very responsive.

My bike, an older Bianchi, needed special parts that were no longer made. The crew helped me find substitute parts that would work online, fix the bike, then send back the extra parts to the other small bike shop we had ordered from. Very patient staff. Thank you!

After moving to Portland two years ago and first having a less-than-adequate tuneup experience at one Portland bike shop, and another less-than-customer sensitive experience at another, I tried Gorham -- first to buy new bike shoes (where I was not oversold after I described what I needed). Pleased, I have been there repeatedly for tune ups, and other mechanical stuff and equipment purchases. Always very good, customer focused on both sales and service. If a service problem with something that was not tweaked just right, they are on it, and with a smile. I recently dealt with mechanic John on a tricky fender fit issue and he was spot on and very patient.

I love the bike I bought there! They have answered all of my questions and tweaked up the bike as needed. They have fast, and GREAT customer service! Im a pretty new rider and Dave, has given me some good tips on how to take care of my bike.

I had a very mixed service experience, but overall I was very happy and plan to go back. I rented a road bike, and when I called ahead to make the reservation I was told that there was a discounted rate because I planned to use it for a race. My brother picked up the bike for me, and he said that nothing was prepared, the bike wasnt tuned, they had no record of my measurements or any of the information Id given over the phone, and he was charged twice as much as what I had been promised. After my race, we returned the bike and explained what had happened, and they were very understanding and refunded me the difference in the price. The bike itself worked very well and I was happy with the rental.
