My 18-270 Tamron Lens had a loose screw and jammed. I called this place, Dave picked up and provided a short analysis, 🤗 he said to bring it in, because he thought the lens was worth saving.I came to the store, showed the Lens, he took it inside, and 20 min later, he came providing the analysis. The screw jammed, but he was able to make it working without removing the whole lens (it would have cost $140). He cleaned up, fixing all the outer parts, reassembled the lens. And he charged nothing, i was blown away of both his expertise and generosity. Further he helped to prep for my future lens.It was a very pleasant experience, worth the driving, and i would always go to this place for future camera/photography needs, and highly recommended this to everyone.

I had the best experience at Advance today ! I thought I needed a new battery charger, but the sales guy said it was not the charger, it was the batteries that were going bad. Saved me a lot of money because I did not need to buy a new charger, and did not even charge me for fixing a corrosive battery on site . Amazing !

Whether your imaging is a hobby or a profession, and is done with anything more sophisticated than a cell phone, you will eventually need cleaning or repairs for your camera and/or lens(es). I have had my Hasselblad, Canon F1n, Nikon F and Photomic FTn finder, and Nikon D850 repaired, cleaned, and/or calibrated. Advance Cameras craftsmanship is professional on every level. Everything they have brought back from the Land of the Broken and Unserviceable has functioned flawlessly. Eventually my entire collection will visit their repair bench. Thanks to the staff at Advance Camera for keeping film lovers out there creating memorable photographs.

I would give this dump negative stars, if it were possible. I needed a lens cleaned, so I called them. The person I spoke with said, No problem, mail it on in! I did so, and then heard nothing for a few weeks. I called and after searching around a while, was told that tgey had indeed received it and it would be looked at shortly and they would call with an estimate. Long story short, it took FIVE MONTHS to get my lens back. At no point did they ever give me ANY indication of a timetable. Every time I phoned, I spoke to a different person with a different excuse. Fail. Fail. Fail.

When the batteries in my Nikon SB-700 flash unit leaked they did damage. I checked with Nikon support and they wanted $180 to check it out if I mailed it to them. I gave Dave at Advance Camera, Inc. a call and he said, bring it in and we will check it out for free. Seemed like a good value to me so I drove to his shop from Vancouver, Washington. Im so glad I did. Not only did he check it out for free, HE FIXED IT FOR FREE! It took him all of about six minutes. Dave also gave me pointers on the kind of batteries to use. Apparently, all of the leaking batteries he sees are of the same brand as I was using. Good to know. Thank you Dave for you help, generosity and support. I will be coming to you for all of my camera needs.

I’ve been going to Advance Camera for 5yrs now and have only had positive experiences with them. My most recent interaction was a sensor cleaning last week in which they always clean your camera as well as the attached lens while making sure that the mechanics are functioning perfectly. Turnaround was 2 days which is nice.I like to get a sensor cleaning from them once a year and it’s nice knowing I can count on consistency in service. I’ve also had them repair a lens to like new condition and have purchased used from them with success. They are always helpful and make sure you leave happy from my experience. I will keep going back.

My lens got stuck on the camera body. Turned out a screw got stuck between the body and lens, and they were able to get me up and running super quickly. They even cleaned the sensor which it was in! Extremely happy with the service, and wouldnt hesitate to go back.

David, the shop owner, answered as soon as I called. He was tremendously helpful and kind! He picked out a used camera for me that met my needs. He cleaned it, found the users manual, and put in a new battery. When I went to pick it up, the gentleman at the front desk was super knowledgeable and friendly. What a great experience! I’ll go back for all of my camera needs!

This place used to be my go to shop. But the last few times I have called them about getting cameras repaired they sounded like I was bothering them by calling. The last time I called it was about ordering a part for my D750 that I could install myself in about 15 minutes. The guy that answered the phone told me they dont normally order parts unless they are installing them... I dont need it installed. Its a few screws and a connector. Nothing complicated. He said he would talk to his manager and call me back. That was two days ago and I havent heard anything. So even if you want something that you can do yourself and you dont want to pay them hundreds of dollars to spend 15 minutes on it they wont give you the time of day. Very disappointing. Likely will never call them again.

Fantastic business. They offer quick turn around on camera repair as well as selling film stock and film cameras in house. Great to have an analog camera store still around and I hope we never lose them.

Fun little shop. I picked up a new lens, camera bag for myself and a used camera bag for my son. Store was clean, employees were fun to chat with and very helpful! Will return.

I had a broken Pentax 67 that needed to be repaired. I called four shops around the city, and no one would give me a straight answer if they could fix it without a paid estimate. I didn’t have the time to get an estimate because I only had a day to get a refund on the camera. Will at advance camera was very personable on the phone and genuinely cared about the problem. I was able to take it to the shop right before they closed, and they fixed it on the spot instead of putting me on a list for an estimate. And since it was a small enough fix, they didn’t charge me! I was incredibly satisfied by the customer service, and would recommend them to anyone.

Went in for a repair on my binoculars. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, timely and their work was very effective. I love the decor in there. 10/10-would recommend!

As a working photographer, I have had gear repaired by Advance on a number of occasions and they have always done a wonderful job. My gear is important to me and they stay in constant communication while they work. They understand what I need and work with skill and confidence. Recently I had an issue with a vintage Hasselblad. After exchanging a few emails, I called Dave and he walked me through the repair on the phone. Very friendly, patient, and knowledgable. Yet another great experience. Highly recommended!

Brought my canon camera thinking it was faulty or both my lences were. Staff member took a quick look and told me my ISO settings were wrong. I was also educated, what settings to use at what time of the day and weather. All of this was completely free! Amazing service!

Great service on my Canon 7D. I took it in for sensor cleaning, but Dave found that a red spot was still there after cleaning. So he disassembled the lens (18-135) and found a tiny red spider (!) on the front third element. No extra charge. Ive been going to Advance Camera for years and will continue to do so.

I have used Advance Camera over the years for repairs and maintenance of newly purchased camera gear and to purchase used cameras and accessories. Advance Camera has always provided great service for a fair price. My experience has been that they are nice, helpful, and honest. I dont review a lot of businesses, but I have no hesitations endorsing Advance Camera. We need to support our local camera shops and this business is worthy of continued support.

They repaired my rare lens that needed more than TLC and brought it back to life. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I happened to bring my lens in a few months ago and although it took a bit of a wait, I suppose thats good thing. That means theyre trusted by many photographers. I have nothing but wonderful things to say. Ill never send a lens for repair to anywhere else.

This will officially be the place I go for all of my camera needs. I live in SE Portland, and the journey to Advance Camera is worth it. My Fujifilm was experiencing sticky switches so I brought it in. When I came in and asked about the switches and if my lens needed to be cleaned, he took it in the back and came out like two minutes later and had cleaned the switches and checked everything. He also gave me a breakdown of how the switches work. He didnt ask for any payment and I literally asked to pay him and he said no, he was super nice and I dont even think I was in there for 5 minutes total.Also, they were super organized about social distancing and helping all the customers in there even though it was a small store.

I don’t know much about cameras and they were incredibly helpful! In and out in 15 min with it looking good as new, and at a great price as well!

I initially came here because I saw great reviews, however, I was still apprehensive as Ive been to some shady or elitist camera stores in my time. I never take the time to write these, but I felt the staff here deserve so many props! I went in with two lenses (my babies) and they took the time to assess each--one they couldve made money on by repairing, but went out of their way to explain why it was actually cost effective to send it to the factory. The second, they took about 10 minutes longer (apologizing profusely for the wait), and when it came back--they fixed it. When I asked what I owed, they said nothing. I was shocked. They fixed it. FOR FREE. They took time on their visit to help me vs. making money. They were also super friendly and approachable. Zero intimidation factor, honest and nice? Im forever a loyal customer! Best camera shop in the PDX area!

Wow! I brought my cameras in for their annual cleaning, and they came back sparkling! They provided me with before and after pictures of my sensors, and I had no idea how much dust was on them!!! The turn around time was amazing, just a few days! Also, every person I spoke with was very helpful. I have to drive almost an hour to get to them, but knowing my cameras will be well taken care is worth every minute.

Took my Nikon in for a sensor cleaning as I had picked up some dirt while on vacation. The staff were very friendly when dropping off and picking up my camera. It was ready before they had indicated. I Couldn’t be happier with the service. The camera looks as good as new and the cost was very reasonable for the service.

Love the Advance Camera team! Ive been taking my gear to them for years and they always done a wonderful job and educated me on what they are repairing. Often times they do small things while I wait and for anything larger they are great at working with my shooting schedule. I dont live particularly close by so Ive often mailed in gear or had friends drop it off. Theyve never had an issue with that and are great at communicating with me remotely!

My memory card slot wasnt reading my cards. I thought I was going to have to get it replaced, but the guys there took a look at it for me and since it was a quick fix they repaired it for free. Id highly recommend this place and Ill be going back for any future camera repair needs!

The man who helped me was incredibly kind and helpful and willing to work within my timeframe to ensure that my camera is back to me before I have to use it for work. I sent my grandfather’s Canon A1 35mm film camera to Advance Camera Repair after it had been sitting for 17 years, assuming it would not be repairable. The folks at Advance Camera Repair rebuilt this camera from the ground up at a great rate, and it is as if I was given a brand-new camera. The attention to detail is absolutely impeccable, and I love that these fine folks take pride in working on these timeless old machines. I recently bought a Nikon 80-200 2.8 AF lens for my camera from Advanced Camera. Being very much a novice I didnt notice the zoom feature was a little hard to operate. After using a couple rolls of film I wasnt sure if I just didnt know how to use the lens or if it may have a problem. Long story short, the lens did have a problem (as did I in terms of proper operation). Although I bought the lens on consignment through Advanced and without a warranty I took the lens back to them to see what the issue was. Jordan and associates took care of my lens, repairing it at no cost. Beyond this, I was given some much needed advise on how to best use the lens. I spent $500 on the lens ( a lot for me - as I know little to nothing on the features of a lens of this caliber - I just knew I had to have it! ). I would just like to express my gratitude to Advanced Camera on a job well done. I would highly recommend giving them a try if you are in the market for any new or used camera equipment or supplies. Their staff is very knowledgeable and eager to answer any questions. I am in the automotive repair service industry and I know how difficult it is to explain in easy to understand terms sometimes problematic conditions. Advanced Camera certainly under promised and over delivered. I should add that the lens was purchased for me from my wife as a gift. What could have turned out terrible ended up a great experience. Advance Camera is definitely my go to for any camera repairs and odds and ends like caps and filters. With used equipment the staff is always happy to cut a fair deal, and their repair staff is really quick and efficient (Ive had them do some repairs in a couple minutes while I waited). On top of it all they are professional, and incredibly nice and, frankly, happy. It shows that they enjoy what they do and I simply enjoy going in.

I was very pleased with my experience at this shop. I went in to buy my very first DSLR camera. I was completely new to using one didn’t have a clue what I was doing. Everyone that I spoke to here was very patient and helpful in answering any questions that I had or giving advice. I had to go back to the store numerous times after purchasing my camera because I was having trouble figuring out certain things. Every time I came in I was treated very well and had my issue resolved. I highly recommend this place.

Second experience with this company. I discovered them while I was helping a co-worker find a place to take his Nikon.Since I was having problems with my Pentax K3 ii focusing properly I decided to have them look at it . I call and was please at how well Jason listen to my problem. He seem passionate about cameras and finding a solution to problem. I took my camera and lenses in . He inspected all, and fixed the problem by doing a global adjustment on the camera. It has work great since. Today I was having a issue with my Horse 985 lens board not staying fixed at the infinity focusing stop. He took at look at it. Discover the gears beneath the rail was not making proper contact. After his adjustment, it is working problem. Cost? No charge. These guys are great and have earned my business and respect. I encourage every one to support these type of customer/business service models.

My Nikon d7200 camera wasn’t allowing the lens to lock into place. Autofocus stopped working but I could still focus manually. I dreaded being without my camera for several weeks during a repair but fear of a lens falling off the camera motivated me to get the problem fixed. Jason at Advance Camera invited me to bring it in because the store stocks many camera parts. To my surprise, Jason was able to unstick the lock button with a little spray of solvent. No charge for this service. Thank you so much, Jason, for fixing my camera!

Over promised and under delivered. I took a Nikon lens to Advance Camera for repair. They took two weeks passed the estimated time for completion of the repair (two months in total) to call and tell me that they couldnt do the work after all. And the kicker? They charged me $60 (initial deposit) for my time. I cant understand how a repair shop with a Nikon sign in the window cant tell me up front that they dont have the knowledge and/or tools to repair certain Nikon lenses. Anyway, it seems my experience is an outlier, but this is not a business I will return to, nor one I will recommend to fellow photographers.

Advanced camera treated me well when I went in with my mother. She purchased a used but expensive tripod for me. We were assured, due to their computer system, they would always have a digital copy of our receipt for proof of purchase. We live at the coast, and when we arrived home after getting many errands done in Portland, we realized they had forgotten to give me the small attachment that allows the camera to actually be screwed on to the tripod. My mom and I drove all the way back to get it the next week, and she brought the receipt anyways just in case. I went inside the store with the tripod in hand, by myself to get the small part that was missing, thinking it was no big deal. I did not bring the receipt inside with me initally and left it with my mom in the car, since we were assured that they had a digital copy of our proof of purchase in their system (and I wanted to see if they were telling the truth.) When I went in and explained that I needed a missing piece for my tripod, the employee working at the counter treated me like I had stolen the tripod. He couldnt find my recipt or proof of purchase in their computer system. He then questioned me in the most accusatory way possible, and irrationally acted like I wanted a refund (which I didnt, I just wanted a small part that was supposed to come with the tripod to begin with!) My mom came in with the receipt when she got impatient and noticed I was having an issue, at the same time, the manager showed up. The manager apologized profusely for their system not having our information, for his employees both incorrectly attempting to enter us in the digital system and for the accusations. The manager quickly gave me the small attachment for my tripod, exclaiming why didnt we give you this to begin with? I am so sorry.So, the manager is a gem, but the employees were the opposite in my experience. Being treated like I stole something, especially when they were the ones at fault, was embarassing and ridiculous. This happened quite a while ago, but I felt the need to write this review.I had been a customer since I was a beginning photography student in 7th grade, onward to my career as a photographer in my 20s, when this interaction took place. It made me realize I would never be comfortable shopping here again unless the manager handled -everything-.

I didnt know much about cameras or photography but was looking for a different lens for a camera I own and the person who was helping me (whose name I unfortunately forgot) was really great at explaining things to me on a basic/beginner level. He explained all sorts of lenses and their function so I could make the best choice.I felt like they had some great prices too. I purchased a used sony 50MM 1.8 E-mount for $200. Best Buys + Amazon are selling them for around $225+Their customer service and friendly staff will keep me coming back when I have another need! Thanks Advance Camera Inc.

Called in early-May about getting a camera repaired that had some corrosive damage from water exposure. Was told on the phone that the camera would likely be assessed soon after drop-off and potentially fixed within a week depending on extent of damage. Able to drop it off a few days later and was told at that time it would likely be assessed within a week but repairs would likely take a few weeks (this was before anyone had actually looked at the extent of the damage). I called in about a week after drop-off as I had not heard anything, found out it had just made it onto the desk of someone to look at. Got an email about a week later (2 weeks after drop-off) that they had found out the source of the issues and would get to work on ordering necessary parts and fixing it once we had clarified that was the direction I wanted to take. At that time I was quoted 3 weeks or potentially less for the camera to be fixed. I called 3.5 weeks later (now 5 weeks after drop-off) to be told that necessary parts had arrived and the camera could soon be picked up within the next week.I would strongly suggest to management/owners to consider a system to improve communication between engineers/techs who are doing the work and the customer. I would recommend a simple weekly email to indicate what work has been done, what tests have been run and the results, if there is an expected wait time for parts and/or labor, and updates to expected pick-up.I have no complaints about the quality of work or the demeanor with which I was treated by any people working at Advance, however the communication was not good and should be improved.

All I needed was a quick sensor cleaning for my Nikon, and Jordan and the crew at Advance Camera made it happen even faster than they had promised and with outstanding quality. The prices also are very competitive. Ive had decent experiences with other shops around Portland, but nothing as all around satisfying as working with these guys. To anyone who asks, I would highly recommend using them for service, repairs or most anything else.

Nice and friendly camera store.

I took my gear in to be cleaned and one of my lenses calibrated. When I shot my next session, nearly all of my photos turned out blurry. My friend had her lenses calibrated here before me and I found out she was having exactly the same issues. When I took my gear in and asked what happened they said that the autofocus on my lens was inconsistent and it must be the lens. Now Im wondering why all of my lenses are having trouble focusing. Please think twice before asking this place to calibrate any of your lenses!

Big shout out for the guys at Advance Camera. I came in for a repair issue unrelated to cameras and they were incredibly gracious and offered to take a look. They managed to extract a very small piece from my device and fixed the problem! Super friendly and helpful. Not enough stars for the rating they deserve for customer service and care.

This company is fantastic. I brought in a lot of 3 camera bodies and 7 lenses which I had purchased with the intent of reselling, but I was unsure of their condition. One of their techs evaluated everything and gave me a crash course in how to do it at home all for free. They were extremely professional and friendly. If I need any work done on my equipment this is the place I will go, hands down.

My Canon 7D was deemed in repairable by another Canon Service Center. They returned it to me as dead as it was when I sent it...disappointed that such a high end camera could not be repaired... They said they could fix my camera, and they did, and they did it quick, and they also upgraded the firmware, cleaned it, and more...it works better than ever....AND for less than I expected. I love this place. They are quick and very nice. My aperture on my telephoto lens was stuck when I bumped it. Normally It would cost $90 to send it to Nikon for them to fix my lens, but they did it free of charge and it was also very quick. I am just beginning photography and the were very helpful, they also talked to me about other items and beginner stuff. A+++++++ job

I went in to get the shuttered lens cover on my portable camera fixed. It was 10 minutes before closing and I expected to drop it off for the repair. The guy at the front said, Let me show it to a tech. He brought it back in 2 minutes - fixed and would not take anything. He said it was a simple fix and showed me how to care for it. I am a believer and will bring my gear there from now on.

Advanced Camera gives such great service. Ive shopped there, taken classes and brought old cameras and slide projectors for repair. They are there for me, my students and family with fine service and expert advice.On Tuesday, I was under pressure to get my fathers ancient slide projector in the mail to my brother in Florida. While looking at some of the slides, the projector jammed and I couldnt get the slide out. I was able to take the sliding part to Advanced Camera and with in minutes their gifted expert was able to fix the part and extract the slide. I recently purchased a Nikon D750. One of my favorite lenses -- a Nikon 80-200 AF-S -- worked beautifully on it at first but then randomly stopped focusing. Taking the lens off and putting it back on fixed the problem, at least until last week when the lens stopped focusing entirely. The odd bit is the lens worked just find on my D90, and every other lens I own worked perfectly fine on the D750 except for the 80-200. I cleaned the contacts on the lens and it made no difference. I was finally able to take the body and lens into Advance Camera this morning and managed to stump everyone with the problem--for a few minutes. Then the tech (whose name I did not get, but thank you very much!) cleaned the lens mount. Voila! The lens works again. He explained the D750 uses the mount as a grounding point with the lens, and the grease was keeping it from making a good contact. Hence the lens initially working, then proceeding to get worse over time as the grease was distributed around the mount by taking it off and putting it back on. Thanks, guys.

A great shop! Employees are very knowledgeable and great for advice. Have bought lenses and gotten damaged cameras inspected. Ill keep going back :-)

These guys are great. A few months back I had them clean my Nikon D3100 and a lens. I had dust in the viewfinder and they quoted high and then when I came to pick up the camera the bill was about half of what they had quoted!!! They said that they hadnt had to do as much work to get it clean as they thought they were going to. The camera was cleaner when I got it back than it was the day I purchased it new!! I have since gone in several times and they now know me by name and greet me when I come in the door Jordan has been extremely helpful and has taught me a few tricks also. I have tried a few other camera shops in the area. But nobody stands up to these guys. They have my business!!! Thanks guys!

Repairs to my vintage Nikons have been first rate and reasonably priced.Advice when I was selecting a digital point and shoot was excellent. I am happy with what I purchased--through their Amazon store because I so appreciated their thoughtful advice. After three years of hard use I took my camera it to them for cleaning and after a studied look at it they said it wasnt needed yet. More good, freely given advice.Recovery of photos from a failed camera memory card with two weeks of family hiking in Patagonia completely made my day, thank you, thank you, thank you. An inexpensive service and the return was priceless.Always helpful, always pleasant and always a great value.

I stopped into Advanced Camera with my Canon system, 5DM2 body, and 4 lenses. I was having focus issues on my 2 zoom lenses, not getting sharp images. David and Jason were great to work with. My camera was cleaned, inside, outside, sensors and all. They micro-calibrated the camera to the lenses (didnt even know that was a thing until I talked to David), charged a very fair price, provided printouts of the work done and turned it around in one day. Sharp as an eagles eye now.

They have a ton of gear and they are owned and run by Oregon residents. The knowledge is great here they are photographers who run a photo store. They can answer most of my questions and are eager too help and make m a better shooter and professional! I trust the info on light and gear they offer and did i say they sell gear!! Jordan rocks too.

Great guys to work with! This was my first time visiting the shop for a full-frame sensor cleaning. The camera came back spotless with a full report of everything they found on the camera. The only thing I wish I had known is that they offer a free lens cleaning—not calibration—when you drop off a camera for a sensor cleaning. This was never mentioned in my initial email with them and this little bit of information is not offered on their website either. So take a lens in with you. Turn-around was very fast and on their promised time. Thanks, guys!

These guys are the best. Theyve squeezed me in before when Ive been on a deadline, have great advice, have fixed my camera no charge when I did something stupid to it after dropping it, and are so nice. You wont find any greater in the area.

I dont normally post reviews, first one, but I had such a terrible experience that I have to. After spending over $400 in equipment at this store, I had an issue with a tripod I purchased. On purchase, I asked about the return policy and was told since it was a floor model not in the box they would waive any fees if I returned it. Turns out it didnt do what I needed so I went to return it. They said there was a 30% restocking fee, and I told them my story. One of the people yelled out this is not acceptable in regards to my return. Nobody would talk to me as they were talking among themselves or respond when I said I didnt want to get anyone in trouble. Finally, the guy angrily came back and started processing my return. When I said I didnt appreciate being treated like I was, he gritted his teeth and angrily said I wasnt being treated in any way poorly. The whole thing sucks because I like the place and wanted to buy a $400 macro lens and use the return money to partially fund it, but I guess after the return no one wanted to help me or talk to me anymore. I guess its back to online shopping for my lenses

This place knows whats up! Im floored by their level of professionalism. I came here to get a dust particle removed from a lens. Not only did they fully disassemble, clean, and fix a gear issue I had but offered that if anything happens they had another similar model they would sell me at a very good rate. Two months later I come in and they remembered me and my Exact camera model! I took the offer of getting the similar one. This will be the camera shop Ill be using for the rest of my life!

Havent gotten any work done here but have come in for advice and I love the service. Not pushy, very honest and extremely helpful. I will definitely come back if I have more questions or for repairs.
