I really enjoy those days I have the time to visit Village Merchants. When I was actually picking more frequently at an estate sale vs a free pile level, I had considered them as a consignment option given the character of those folks I met there. Altho that did not come to pass I am still an irregular and always enjoy seeing what they may have picked up recently. The store is idiosyncratic, the stock diverse and unpredictable in the fun way, and given they are very close to our family home, its super convenient to visit and there is accessible off street parking adjacent to store. I am very happy theyve weathered the pandemic without the boarded windows of so many other eclectic and passion before profit shops, and I am praying it remains so, but they can certainly benefit from a little love from locals!
In 23 years this is the best thrift store Ive found in Portland. The selection is excellent and the people working there are so friendly. In fact I liked it so much I got a job there! And they showed my dog a tonne of love! 🙏💕🐕
This was a cool thrift store with two levels to enjoy. And they even have a patio with some lawn tools and things of that nature. Very fun spot to find great deals on second hand items. The staff was very friendly and helped us find everything we wanted 🙌👏
It took a visit to another, more prohibitively expensive (and stylishly bankrupt) vintage store to remind me how much of an absolute treasure we have in Village Merchants. The unassuming exterior belies the expansiveness beyond its humble gates, packed to the gills with clothes, shoes, furniture, decorations, toys, trinkets, knick-knacks, accessories and a multitude of other unique and wonderful items contained within. The store, as well as the selection, is seemingly endless!Even better, you will not find here the grossly, hyper-inflated prices of similar stores on Hawthorne: some fantastic items can be found for a handful of bucks, and not once have either my wife or myself scoffed at a price tag here, which I cannot say for other vintage outfits. Hell, my wife can make out like a bandit here for $100, with a haul that requires the both of us to carry out in multiple bags.Easily the best vintage store in Portland, in our opinion. Five gently-used, time-seasoned stars!
This is my absolute favorite place to go when Im in town visiting family. Its a local treasure hunt for just about anything you can think decorated vintage chic throughout... consignment store. Furniture to household, vintage and new. Check it out.
One of my favorite thrift stores for at least 20 years! the prices are great for household items (especially dining sets & kitchen items) and clothes (similar selection to Artifact, its much larger sister store). the staff are usually very helpful and today one of them sold me their personal cat carrier/kennel for an incredible price! they literally went home to get it while on break. i have never had such great customer service—i will definitely continue shopping here and showing this spot to friends!
Idk if they pay accurately to the people that sell. Sometimes the pay is shady, but the keep stuff out of the landfill, therefore saving the planet 👏 👏 👏 ❤❤🖤
This is my favorite thrift/consignment store in Portland!! Ive found so many treasures here and I could spend hours just browsing around and looking at all the cool stuff. I shop here at least once a month and I always find something cool/different. I usually spend the most time looking at housewares but the clothing is very well curated as well!
Great thrift store for retail therapy. Very fair consignment policy. Super friendly and extra helpful staff.I swoop through frequently looking for white clothes to repurpose by ice dye or indigo shibori.
Amazing place. I will never stop going here. At least once a week to get my fix
Village Merchants is a way totally awesome place to go,They sell and buy everything. All of the employees are very nice and polite,The place is super big inside,The outside area is always very clean,I really appreciate at it very much.I have bought alot of very nice and cool stuff animals there. Thanks very, very much.Keep up the great work.
A good variety of interesting vintage and secondhand clothing, household items, and furniture among other things. There is a plethora of STUFF here, and there will be some great finds. Their prices can be expensive on some items, but they do seem to overall have good deals. This is a great spot to find something you didnt know you wanted.
Great variety of stuff. a unique place with puzzles, furniture, clothes, rings, stuffed animals and more. i loved it here.
Very cute place and everyone that I went with found at least one thing that they really liked. So the selection was really good and the store itself was spacious and the workers were all really nice and helpful.
Love this place! So many unique and amazing great priced items. Get there early for consignment and better parking spots
Im biased because I work here. But we have low prices and its a large store--I know we have good product because I rarely go home without buying some for myself. Its amazing how much really great, unique stuff we see every day! Ive gotten 95% of my wardrobe, home goods, and accessories from VM. If you love anything cooky, unique, eccentric, or quirky, we have your back. Or even if you just need a few planters and a new nightstand, maybe a new shower curtain. VM is a magical place, and I am proud to be a part of it.
Cool little shop that has some interesting things to look at and possibly take home with you. Lots old stuff that can be repurposed and some newer things that are still in the packaging. We spent about 30 minutes checking out the place. Purchased a few things for the house. Overall it was a low-key and pleasant experience.
I posted 22 photos to show how much there is to look at when you go here. I went thinking it was a average sized retail space and was dead wrong. Multiple rooms, segregated items in rooms, an upstairs, an outside room, lots of nicknacks, furniture, shoes, purses, typewriters and jewelry plus more. We went and wandered around, looked at stuff for about an hour. Staff was super friendly, very decent price for a lot of the items I looked at, my 9 month old son was looking up down left right at everything, I found a pair of shoes and I will definetly go again. Thank you!
As a reseller, I’ve been to many, many thrust stores. This one is my absolute favorite since moving to Portland! They have an amazing selection to fun items, and everything is so affordable!! I’ve found multiple Pyrex dishes for under $8, Starbucks mugs for under $5, and lots of coffee table books between $1-$3! They have a great selection of clothing, and offer cute plus size options which is a plus! They have adorable furniture and kitchen ware! I really love this shop, and make it a point to go every Friday since it is my day off! :) I really look forward to my weekly trip :)UPDATE: they literally helped me put a table I bought into my car and were so careful and nice!! Ahhh I just love this place so much!!
I love this place! Its a classic consignment shop with a lot of great stuff at super good prices.
Love love love.Like a Goodwill except that everything feels curated for me and most of it is cheaper (as Goodwill has become as expensive as retail). Its basically impossible to walk out without finding something I love.Definitely check out this hidden gem!
One of my favorite places, even if its only the vibe!
It is unclear how they pull off the magic of keeping their prices low, their consignment sellers happy, and their employees paid. But they do!I have purchased and sold many things here and recommend them without hesitation.
They get new items often, and there’s always something for everyone.
A white persons paradise of cultural appropriation. Find racist caracatures from a plethora of cultures. Glass figurines, posters, dolls, rugs... You can find appropriation in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors. But be assured as the sign out front states that they welcome people of all shapes, sizes, colors, sexes, languages, cultures, beliefs, ages, preferences, statuses, faiths, you are home. I guess they welcome you so they can celebrate stereotypes about your identity and sell them? I dont know about my fellow people of color but I know I dont fill my house with racist items to make it welcoming
Great People! What an amazing assortment of dang near everything and I mean EVERYTHING! Why buy new when you can find old school and extremely unique items for pennies on the dollar!
This is my favorite second hand store in town. I always find something here at a great price!
My 1st visit forsure not my lastReally cool with place lots of interesting stuffJust beware :Parking lot is small and tight as well as 41stBut with a short walk if need be ✌
I love this place! A wonderfully priced selection of ever-changing treasures. I sell here and usually just end up spending everything I make—it’s a wonderful way to trade up. I also really appreciate the donation option. I can make a little money on something, or if needed they will send items along to their next destination for me.
Great place to sell and trade household items
LOVE THIS PLACE, but who doesnt?!! Lots of great finds. Ive never left this store empty handed. My mom and I love to go thrifting together and this is one of out favorite spots ☺️💘
Great vintage and great prices. Such a fun place💜
I was visiting out of town and this thrift store is definitely one of the highlights of my trip. Affordable clothing/items, nice staff and great selections. If I lived in Portland I would come there all the time.
Amazing treasures at great prices, friendly staff!
Vast selection of consigned clothing, accessories, housewares and some furniture. Make sure to check out the upstairs loft area and scan the kitchen wares... I have found some great scores there. The prices are competitive and sometimes less than the local Goodwill. I rarely walk away empty-handed.
A wide variety of everything, in a unique environment.
I love this place! Great pricing, diverse people and products. More unique items and clothing that you can find almost anywhere. Lots of handmade one of a kind items and even ecofriendly minimalist gear.Parking can be tight. Not a great place for small children; breakables and tight spaces.Bonus - tasty food truck and outdoor seating makes for a good day out. At least during Covid times.
Love this place, we have always found something to purchase here. Friendly staff and great stock.
Very helpful staff, great selection, and air conditioned!!
The people where nice to me and I would come back and shop there all the time.
You want it, they got it. Clothing, knick knacks, furniture, tools. You can consign your stuff there too. You know, to make more room for stuff.
People are great variety is uncomplicated process are out of this world.
Most amazing thrift store EV ER
Aloha from Hawaii! I go to this store every year when I visit my college daugter. I love the variety of merchandise (clothes to furniture) they have and their prices are very reasonable! The staff is also very helpful and friendly. Cant wait to go back again!
This eclectic and ever changing inventory has well priced merchandise. You can buy you can sell or trade.
I really like shopping here,up stairs they sell lots of very good stuff Animals. And down stairs they sell, FurnitureAndJewelryMens and womens
Adorable thrift store with everything delight you could be shopping for from cool home decor, trinkets, craft supplies, apparel and more. This shop is very curated with only the best it seems! They also had good protocols for COVID.
Awesome consignment store with an ecelectic and diverse array of goods. Try out your luck to see if youll stumble upon a cool find!
SO MUCH FUN!! I went for my first time (based on reviews) yesterday with my mother and children and it was a delightful experience. Really inexpensive, tons of everything from housewares to clothing to toys to shoes to vintage costumes to jewelry - there is everything you can imagine! I gave my kids $10 each to spend on whatever they wanted and we spent nearly 2 hours having a ton of fun looking through. I got the greatest purse ($6!!!), one child got a set of horses, the other got a jacket and shirt. And I found my husband (size 14 which never happens) brand new in the box chacos for $24!!!!! The staff were very helpful and sweet. It was a PERFECT thrift store experience. It will be a Portland must do on every trip we take. We had a ton of fun. I even think my husband would enjoy it and he is not a thrift store lover like I am. I especially think he will appreciate the prices.
Interesting curation of objects. Friendly staff.
Great prices and amazing selection😊
Great selection of clothes, shoes, furniture, lamps, home stuff etc. Would recommend for a good browse etc.
Do yourself a favor and go here!God I love this place! You can find normal thrift store goodies, but this place offers though the chance to find true treasures! Ive found the most amazing things here. Its always a hunt that my 16 year old son and I look forward to going on frequently.
Youll find the most awesome stuff. I love the staff too.
Nice people, cool atmosphere, and cheap prices!
The staff is friendly and helpful. I always find something great at prices lower than the Goodwill and V.M.is discerning at what they accept for resell, so things are good quality. I love that they buy a lot of my things to resell. 💜
Employees nice and helpful. They always have different things to sell. Some prices are great. But their stamps are overpriced. It is a real fun place to browse around.
Great stuff. Go check em out.
Super cool store with so much stuff!! They have clothes, toys, house hold items and so much more!
Looking for something but dont know what? Enjoy treasure hunting? This place has so much stuff it boggles the mind. Why buy new, when used is more interesting and cheap AF?
One of few (or maybe the only) more central thrift stores in Portland that is actually CHEAP! Great and fun selection, too. They also buy if youre looking to sell your stuff. Although their buying hours differ from their opening hours, so double check on their webpage.
What you see today will likely be gone tomorrow. Youve been warned 😉
Tip to other sellers, specifically with clothes: if you want the ability to know what they are planning on selling of your goods, you have to request that they not immediately sell your items. I wanted to know what they were taking out because I had a pair of brand new Levis that I know I could have gotten more for at a different shop. They kept assuring me of they took 25$ worth of clothes so they must have taken a couple items. Which didnt make me feel any better about selling with them. Definitely wont be going back.
Fun place
I absolutely love this place not only do they have like you never know what youre going to find there and its usually at a really good price but like everybody is so interesting like what a great place to meet people when you come off of the social restrictions of interaction haha
Wonderful thrift store, very impressed with the prices. One of the few places in Portland with actual thrift store prices. Huge selection. 10/10 recommend!!!
Its a fun place to pick through and theres always some good surprises. Theres some vintage items tucked in, if you have some time to dig a little. Their prices are awesome and theres a good blend of home goods and clothing.
Cool little antique shop with lots of vendors lots of different things from close to outdoor garden and indoor knick knacks
I almost hate to recommend any more shoppers to this maze of quality items. Clean, well organized with jewelry, clothes, shoes, household, furniture, crafts, music instruments, collectibles, ..all quality &super prices. Youll be there for a chunk of time. More upstairs too!great stuff in parking lot as you come in . Really, i dont think theres anything they dont sell if its in good shape. Plan on spending more time than you think there. Dressing rooms ok to use as well, unlike many other stores!
This place is just wonderful! The atmosphere is inviting and friendly, also all the staff are more than willing to help you with whatever your needs are and they do it with a smile on thier face.
This place is awesome. Great merchandise, friendly employees and really good prices. They have everything from good used clothing and housewares to antiques. Found a bunch of great fabric for cheap. Im hooked!
The BEST resale/retail store ever. One of a kind bargains everytime I shop here. Buy IT TODAY cos it might NOT be there tomorrow
Freackin a .....FINALLY found my freddy krueger replica sweater....bring it baby!!!
One could spend hours here with all the great vintage items to look at and purchase. I found myself looking in every corner to discover unique items. The jewelry is great.
Love this place ?
This local treasure is incomparable - you have to visit to believe it. Great stuff, great prices... Always something fascinating to find.
Best selection with the best price for thrift stores in Portland! Most thrift stores think theyre the coolest place in the world and charge as if they have the most unique and rarest stuff around... This is the only thrift store Ive found in Portland where the prices are actually reasonable for thrift goods... Awesome selection of goods and very fair prices! Love this place and the staff!
I dont dislike this place just didnt find anything I liked this trip.
This is my daughters favorite thrift store, and theyve had a lot of nice furniture that Ive found as well. Nice stuff, well organized, friendly staff. If youre into thrift stores if recommend it 👍
This is my go-to consignment shop! Such a great variety and selection. The prices are really great and I always find at least one or two great finds.
Always fun . Can bring in items for sales. Lots of goodies.
Overpriced thrift store, mainly focusing on figurines and candles, from the looks of it. My mom would love it and would think it is adorable. Me, and I would guess most dudes? Not so much. This is a ladies-love-it, guys-dont thrift store. Youve been warned fellas.
Ive enjoyed shopping here for 15 years! AND bringing my cool things here to sell or consign. Ive gotten great housewares, clothes and furniture!
Great finds at amazing prices
Best deals in Portland. Great variety of items.
This is a fun store to find things. I usually check it out when Im in the area. The front door is ADA accessible, and you can get a chair in. But maneuvering the store itself is a challenge in a stair. They commit the cardinal sin: too much stuff too close together! Good luck getting past the first room if youre disabled.
Village merchants is such an awesome store! If you love thrifting and vintage goods, this is a great place for that in Portland. There are lots of different types of stuff to find here. Clothes, home goods, furniture, and more. I honestly think the prices are really fair and everything Ive bought here I bought for a really great price. I was really pleasantly surprised but the amount of great stuff and great prices they have. It can get crowded when its busy of course. Id definitely recommend checking Village Merchants out. A great Portland shop! 👍👍👍
Awesome affordable gym that rocks. Been there many years.
This is note my new favorite place, so so much to check out, very helpful employees too! Ill be back!
Great place to browse with interesting and one of a kind or hard to find items. Items are priced fairly and to move. They pay out fairly for consignment as well. One of my absolute favorite second hand shops.
Bring your out of town visitors here, it is that good. Something for everyone. You can bring two bags of stuff to get some cash or credit (I always go credit, as you get 10% more value). Everyone I have ever brought here loves it. They often wish they drove up so they can load up on cool stuff!
A Portland must visit! Youve never seen the best a thrift store can be until youve visited Village Merchants. They also buy and offer consignment options to walk in customers M-Sat 10-4. Great place to up-cycle your stuff.
