Outstanding experience every step of the way.Had some questions a couple of weeks prior to appointment, got some 1-on-1 time with a technician going over options for both glasses and contacts.Day of appointment, everyone was simply a joy from reception to checkout.Choosing frames is usually a bit of an overwhelming decision, but I had a blast working with the staff to find the perfect set.

I have been going to Hawthorne Vision for years and years (my while family goes too). They are great! I had a top-notch experience from every angle on my most recent visit. The receptionist deftly fit me in on short notice (filling a cancellation). J was amiable and professional in doing the intro round of eye tests, etc. Dr. L is the best! Lastly, the woman who helped me navigate the tricky terrain of new frames was just right: experienced and very knowledgeable. She gently suggested - but listened to, and helped me find, just what I wanted.This is not your mall chain eyewear treadmill - they are a local business with deep roots in the neighborhood. Their commitment to doing what they do with integrity is palpable

Thank you Hawthorne Vision Center for repairing my glasses. I was away from home and the screw in my glasses popped out and disappeared in the grass. A friend suggested that I try them and I carefully, with blurred vision worked my way to their offices. Even though I wasnt a client, the kind staff replaced the lost screw in my glasses so I could see again. Will definitely recommend them!

Dr. Love was fantastic! He saw me right away as an emergency walk in and helped me out when I had scratched my eye. I would highly recommend this office! Front staff was very accommodating as well.

We have been to this clinic several times in the past 11 years and always had a pleasant experience. Our family does not use glasses and visits have largely been for eye issues of a medical nature. Excellent with children.

I rated a 5 because Crystal was awesome in helping me find frames. And she is a great combination of personable and professional. Dr. Love was friendly and efficient. All in all a successful visit.

My wife and I went to get are eyes check and get new glasses. First time there. very helpful and friendly staff! The selection of glasses was on the small side. Will definitely be coming back to get are kids glass! Rate it a 4 star based on how helpful and friendly every one was.

The staff is really talented. Everyone is friendly, helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable. I had to find a new eye place because my previous guy moved from Southeast to Northwest PDX. Their prices are entirely reasonable. I have no idea why some people say otherwise. I probably spent 33% less at Hawthorne Vision than I did at my old place.

Dr. Love is great, always answers my questions and has an easygoing, professional demeanor. I also met a new (to me) eyewear specialist on his staff, who’s a recent transplant from the Midwest. Jaron was knowledgeable about lense options and was delightful to work with. Overall, a very pleasant experience!

Ive been a patient here for many years and have never had a bad experience. As a professional pilot, Im extremely particular about my vision care, and Hawthornes Drs are always willing to take TIME to discuss my care.Perhaps the biggest endorsement I can give is that my insurance changed and isnt accepted here, but I still use them and pay out of pocket.

Now, if you’re interested in my reasons and a bunch of details keep reading:I was checked in by Alena and Ming. Ming, super kind and pleasant, brought me back and did a cursory examination. Next up was the doctor himself: Dr. Love. He was great. Very knowledgeable, helpful, informative, and super funny...haha...unexpected! 😁 However, during the cursory exam I was finding it difficult to focus on the letters with one eye covered. I thought it might be related to a brain injury I suffered two years ago. I mentioned this to Dr. Love and he gave me a couple exercises to do that would help strengthen my ability to focus without so much brain effort. So grateful!!! And then there was Kristie. This incredible human helped me find my perfect glasses. Now, if you’re like I was this morning you’re probably thinking, “What?!? Why do I need help picking out glasses..?” Well as it turns out there are so many more factors you should consider than whether or not they look good on your face. That is important too. But! The shape and size of your spectacles, whether they have tiny nose pieces or not, what material the frames are made from, what kind of lens material is used...and prob a bunch more things I’ve already forgotten...all these things matter! And they make an actual difference like whether or not your vision will be distorted, and by how much...this is important for me because I have terrible eyesight so by paying a bit more I opted for the thinner lens material so the lenses wouldn’t protrude out of the frames etc. Everything was explained to me and how it would effect me as a glasses wearer. I didn’t feel rushed or pressured to buy anything. I was given information and all the time I needed to make the best choice for me. Molly checked me out and was just as great as everyone else. Oh! I paid in fill because I was expecting to have to but for those of you on a budget there are payment plan options. Very thoughtful. Anyway I have been wearing a glasses/contacts combo for like 15 years and never have I gone to an eye doctor and left feeling like there is a good reason to see an eye doctor regularly. Until now! Apparently I also have been not properly caring for my contact lenses...who knew! I don’t think anything I learned today is new news but I have never had an eye doctor look into my eyeballs with my lenses in to make sure all is well. Not even when I first got them at the adorable age of 15. Anyway, they care, and do all the things and answer all the questions while being spectacularly delightful. I’m so glad I have such a fantastic eye doctor’s office to go to for my yearly exams. And again, I emphatically recommend The Hawthorne Vision Center! 😁Full disclosure: I am terrible at names so no promises that I remembered anyone’s name correctly. I think I got everyone right accept maybe Kristie. I spent the most time with her and she was fantastic, but I’m not sure, her name might be Kristen or Krystal...? All I know is she was great and we both had black and white picture jasper rings. Find her and you will have all of your glasses needs met!!

I have always been happy with my service at Hawthorne Vision. A patient now for over 4 years, I have found all staff to be very personable, qualified and helpful. Dr Uhlig is wonderful! My eye problems are complex and she has proven her expertise at handling them well, including referring me to the best opthamology surgical specialists when needed. I heartily recommend Hawthorne Vision Center!

My $360 glasses were actually a little worse than my old ones and HV recommended me to take them home to give them a shot, that my eyes might adjust to the glasses over time. Here we are a month later. Still no good. So I went in and they seemed to take my concerns very seriously. They rechecked my glasses and very carefully looked at how the glasses were working for me, and offered to send my glasses back in for fixing. I have a feeling what theyll really need is a larger bifocal space. The lens area is so small, by their recommendation, that the bifocal space is very teeny. I have to tilt my head back and move my head around to read fine print, and even that doesnt work far too often. For now, Im back to using my original prescription readers that are GREAT! But not from Hawthorne Vision. I have another pair of old progressives that also read better than these new ones, but they have a couple tiny scratches...

Went there last March 2017 and lost half of my insurance for their overpriced eye exam! This place is way too expensive and so are their glasses. Apparently running a business on upper Hawthorne means you can screw people out of their hard earned money and insurance benefits. I recommend Costco or America’s Best!

Sadly, despite having a good experience in 2013 (which is why I came back), now its all about additional charges. Upsold a lot of junk that was conveniently all non refundable, but of course they never mention that upfront. In the end, they sold me a pair of glasses that were so poorly designed for someone with complex vision that they had to be completely redone, and replaced with much simpler and less expensive ones. Of course, not a single penny for all the extras was refunded. Dishonest, money grubbing loses you another customer.

I made an appointment here because I was told they were great with kids and are willing to work with children who have disabilities. This is in no way true. They were totally unwilling to make a slight accommodation for my child - something which I made them aware of when I made the appointment. Having waited two months for the appointment and having them cancel it the day before was brutal. I called around to three other offices, each of which was more than willing to accommodate him and each was shocked and perplexed that Hawthorne Vision Center would not.

They don’t tell you without your old records we’ll charge you double until you’re already in the chair when I could’ve easily called my last dr and had them sent over beforehand. Also a great place if you want to feel rushed and like a number rollin through. Stuck up doctor with her nose in the air. Definitely a new one next year! And on top of that they don’t give you enough samples to last until your contacts arrive. Absolutely ridiculous!

Everyone who works here is very nice! This was my first eye appointment, so I wasnt sure what to expect. They were all really relaxed and funny and I got my glasses very soon after the appointment. Recommend!

I always receive great customer service at HVC from the front desk to the doctors. I highly recommend them!

I went to Hawthorne Vision Cetner for the first time on Friday, and just as I expected, they did not disappoint. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly front desk crew, they even offered me a water bottle and a KIND granola bar while I waited to see the doctor. Dr Uhlig did a great job, while she was very detailed and thourgh, which is important for the line of work I am in. She felt that I needed further testing, so instead of making me come back another day, they fit me into the schedule right there and then. I am very busy and it’s hard for me to get away from work, so it was nice that they understood that without me even having to mention it. After I was done with my eye exam, I headed over to pick out glasses. Wow, they really hit it out of the park with knowing exactly what I wanted. I felt valued while working with her, as I could see she really care about getting me what I needed. I can not wait for my glasses to come in. It’s so nice to go somewhere where they really care about my eye care, all throughout the office.

Excellent exams, very knowledgeable staff and a vast selection of frames! I love this place and as an apparel designer that cares about ones style I can always find a unique frame.

A few years ago, I got some great reading glasses from these guys and had no problems.However, in 2016-early 2017, my experience was more like a used car lot, with bait-and-switch sales tricks.The doctor doing the eye exam was fine.The gal who helped me with my frames was very polite, friendly and helpful. I picked out a frame made by Jack Spade. The sales gal then proceeded to recommend other features, like UV glare resistance, etc. I was hesitant, but she claimed that it would only cost me about $100 out of pocket after my insurance coverage. That didnt seem too bad, so I selected one or two small additional features.A month later, a bill arrives for $350. Thats a bit more than $100.Now, another big problem is that these Jack Spade frames were constantly falling apart. Every week or two, one of the screws would fall out. I replaced it myself a half-dozen times, and brought them to Hawthorne Vision once and had them repair it. The problem continued until I finally called them and told them I couldnt deal with the frames anymore.The gal on the phone very kindly offered to swap them out for a better pair.I returned to the shop, and she did swap them out for a similar pair made by ProDesign. I left the Jack Spades with her and left with the new frames. These ProDesigns are much more solidly made and havent fallen apart once.However... yesterday I get a bill in the mail for $143! At no point during my phone call or my visit did anyone mention there would be additional charges.I call them, and speak to Elaine who explains that they made a mistake, and my final bill is actually $93.00. Not good enough. She talks to her office manager and offers me a $4.00 discount. Still not good enough.Again, when you are told that a business will Swap out an inferior product for one that actually functions, and when you are NOT told to expect more charges, I dont think its appropriate to get a hefty bill in the mail.

Was visiting Portland when the frame of my glasses broke... Matao did a very fast adjustment to the lenses so they would fit a new frame and I was back in business within the hour! Very efficient and accommodating - glad I found them! Ive worn glasses my entire life so I know when Im dealing with a true expert when getting glasses fitted/adjusted right - Matao is indeed an expert! The front desk staff were very busy but managed to give me the time and attention to help things like dealing with my insurance easier... Thank you for helping me!

I am a return customer after 5 years. My husband has been going there for 20 years. No one told me my eyes were going to be dialated. I spoke with doctor about concern as I had not made plans for being unable to see all day. He seemed unconcerned that I had to drive with dialated eyes and instead sent me to choose glasses to purchase with dialated eyes. Not impressed with selection or limited hours of operation. They have changed, not for the better. We will be looking for another eye center in the SE.

I took my 4 year old daughter here when she kept getting really big stys in her eyelids. That progressed into pyogenic granulomas which is scar tissue growing on the inside of the eyelid...quite grotesque looking. Dr. Uhlig referred us to a Pediatric Opthamologist who quickly said Eh, it will resolve on it s own. Even when they started to grow and take over her eyes, swelling one almost closed, he wasn t concerned. In the mean time I went in to Hawthorne Vision Center to pay my bill and was talking to the receptionist who asked how the specialist visit went. I told her and was overheard by Dr. Uhlig who came out of her office and voiced her concern. I almost cried right there, just hearing her concern for my daughter. She told me she would be happy to help me get a second opinion. Well, that didn t even have to take place because less than an hour after I walked out of there, I had a phone call from the specialists office asking me to bring me daughter in. Dr. Uhlig had gotten on the phone and made it happen. The people at this office are caring. You don t feel like just any old patient there, they take the time to know and remember you and it really feels good.

Not much help when your prescription is about to expire.
