Not the best Guitar Center but not the worst. The selection of instruments has been growing since the pandemic so that’s nice to see. This stores platinum room is probably the better one in the area although the amps in the room could be a lot better. One thing that makes or breaks this store is the staff half are nice and will help you out the other will stand over you and push you really hard to buy something it’s really annoying. I walked away from a 1960a Marshall Cab because one of the workers was so pushy. Got to remember your not the only music store in the area plus online stores these days so customer service is what wins the sale.
Really helpful staff! I stopped by to check out some guitars and they have me space to try it out with various amps. Wonderful experience!
Not a very good store. Other Guitar Centers in other cities have been amazing! Ive met other musicians through there. But this particular Guitar Center is no good. The manager hovers over you and you cannot jam with a guitar unless you rent a room, just so they can make more money. Thats all they care about is money. Killing the vibe of the place. And when you rent a room they hover over you by the door of the room. I was going to buy a $200 Alkaline drum pad but said nevermind, and walked off. This place is not worth it. Needs a new manager.
Went in to look for an amp for my niece. I spotted a left handed Ibanez and had to have it. Also scored a decent fender amp for my niece for under a hundred bucks.Travis was courteous and helpful and had me on my way quickly. All in all it didnt suck.
Great experience on this trip, though I will say that my sales guy this time seemed like he wasnt too excited to help me. I dont want this to reflect my overall experience though, I was cold called by a happy chick last week that was inviting me to come for a promotion for free guitar lessons for me and the kids. I wanted to take them down, things came up, but they thought of me.
Nice store. Friendly staff. Decent stock of guitars, keyboards etc
Not the biggest selection of guitars or basses. Decent selection of amplifiers. I think they had 2 extended range (7-8 string) guitars... One last thing, the guy I spoke to wasnt the most knowledgeable as well. I actually had to correct him on pricing and the release of a certain instrument. Not by any means trying to down the store, just sharing my experience. 👍
Edgar was super helpful in getting me what I wanted. He was super knowledgeable.
Fun atmosphere great staff enjoyable time with my friends
In May, I stopped in to Guitar Center’s Hayden Island location in Portland to have my new Firefly guitar adjusted by luthier Kent Ellingson. I was pleasantly surprised to find him capable, honest, patient and generous with his time. I had already trued up the intonation and lifted the bridge to minimize fret buzz, but as this was my first electric guitar, I thought it would require some actual fret work.Yet after a thorough inspection, Kent explained that the action needed to be adjusted down, not up, that minimal fret buzz was normal, inaudible from the amplifier, and admitted that whatever further adjustments he would make would be slight. What a pleasure to meet a technician so straightforward and helpful. If my guitar drifts out of adjustment in the future, I’ll know just where to go.
The service was really great but I did have to ask for help each time. But it was overall great.
Thanks Edgar!! Save time and save yourself some trouble by buying directly from Guitar Center at this great store and receive all the expert advice you need!
Good service fair prices
Not as big as some others but friendly staff and decent selection of things. Its guitar center, not always the cheapest but you can often find what you need in a pinch
Very helpful staff when selecting a new guitar for my son even though they were slightly busy. Prices seemed reasonable.
I went into Guitar Center today to buy a guitar stool. They didnt have any. That would sound like a Steven Wright joke if it wasnt a true story.
No good for any true guitar player- repair dept shaky for repair request for best friend. All friends in adjoining room locked in place in room by edict contained access for only 2/1time.1 great addn missed. Result:. NEVER RETURN FOR EVEN EMERGENCY E STRING REPLACEMENT.My guitar will now shudder and need retuning nearing the shop.Angry with lack of any concern except $$$.Never again. Period.
Very good, the guys there were very friendly and helpful 👍🏿
Im not even sure why this place exists. Theres hardly any stock and the staff didnt even once say hello or ask if I was looking for anything. But in case the store manager reads this, yes I was looking to purchase a Fender twin reverb amp or something comparable, but since no one even said hello, I left.
I have only been there once. Overall the experience was not bad.
Great customer service and great options for instruments
Resident Luthier was super helpful, really went out his way.
I picked up an open box PA and an xlr mic to replace my old setup, it was a good price, and Im happy with it. I was going to take star off for the kinda pushy warrantee upsell, but they did toss in a cable for me so I figure its a wash.
Great products and great customer service.
Good selection of guitars. Friendly sales people. Good experience.
I Brought a Fender acoustic into Kurt the guitar technician because of buzzy frets and for 100 bucks he told me he would replace the bridge and eliminate the fret buzz, wrong! A 100 bucks later and still fret buzz. I asked for some sort of help and dont feel I should have paid them the full amount. I am still waiting on a call from the General Manager but wont hold my breath(its been a week). Would not recommend.
A couple friends and I went in to this guitar center for the first time and I have to admit: We were all pleasantly surprised. Dont judge a book by its cover, because outside it looks kind of meh... But once you step foot indoors, it was really neat store! The staff were courteous and very knowledgeable; and I felt like they were providing appropriate accommodations for what is going on in our world. Will be returning, I think! Management - seriously think about giving the exterior a face lift because it honestly made us think twice about going in.
JR was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the Taylor guitars I was looking for!
Went in this morning looking to buy a guitar. They pretty much ignored me. I got a guy to help me, he seemed reluctant but answered a few questions then the phone rang and he was gone. I found the one I wanted and was ready to buy it but the dude never came back. I was the only customer in the store. I left. I wont ever go back there. I can buy guitars online.
The meal was very disappointing for the amount that we paid.
Listen, Im sure weve all had our fair share of diverse experiences with Guitar Centers over the years, but I gotta say this place did a GREAT job setting up my P bass. Kent the guitar tech is fantastic; he was super professional and made this bass play like new. If youre need work done go visit this shop.
Love it, my child always enjoy to go there .
Very Helpful staff, didnt have what I was looking for but pointed me in the right direction
I was looking at keyboards, needed and ask assistance. A person came to my rescue. The person got pulled away from me and they said I will be right back to you. Five minutes later the person was standing behind the counter with theirs coworkers. Well they forgot about me and I never got helped. Not good!🙄🥺😥😭
I came here for my brother. He tried selling back an old guitar he had and they straight up told him they would only give him half of the price they would be selling it for which just isnt worth it. But the customer service was amazing and they did have pretty good memorial day sale going on which really helped him get his new guitar that he keeps raving about!
Great store. Nice staff and clean store.
I highly recommend this place. A man named Kent serviced my instrument. Now it sounds way better than when I first got it!
Awesome store incredible inventory and excellent customer service
Absolutely horrible service.Ordered an item online, (Sequential Prophet 5 - $3,500 + $105 overnight shipping). Checked after ordering the item with an agent if the item was in stock (as it went out of stock directly after I placed the order) and that it would arrive the next day. I was assured it would twice by the agent. Not only did it not arrive for another 3 days, it was an OPEN BOX item. I spent 6 hours in a car for a synth I assumed was new and it came in a breadlove box, no manual, no included items. Just absolutley unacceptable on so many levels. Beyond this, no discount or price correction was even offered by the store. The store didnt even have a case for the keyboard for my purchase...since there was no box.Just dont support this business at all. I feel so bad that I didnt place my order with Sweetwater (was also out of stock when i was looking to order). Ive learned my lesson though, better to wait longer for an item from a good retailer than purchase from a place like this.No transparency. No customer service. Just terrible.
I sat and played a few guitars today. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. Everything is sanitized.
Dude was really helpful finding a guitlele for my 5 year old daughter. EDGER was guys name.
Called in to ask about a return. Gave me the ok. At the store accused me of illegal activity and then back peddled. Now I have to get my mother who is sick to deal with this. She has no time of her own, she’s very busy. Confused, upset and 3 hours later, I own a product that I can’t return without mommy...
Not a fan of corporate business. But the staff is knowledge and the prices are alright
Great store, informative staff, easy ordering process and guitar repair. Definitely recommend to anyone who plays from beginner to pro this is the place to shop!
Was one of 2 customers in the store due to COVID. No problem waiting 20 minutes to enter. front door guy was great. Got to guitar desk. Asked if they had any extended range or 7 string guitars. Dude waved his hand towards the wall, said I think we have some over there. Then they both acted like I wasn’t there. Eventually I found 1 7 string and no 8 strings. so I think they knew they had nothing I wanted and promptly ignored me. Thanks for the memories.
Didnt have a huge selection, not very knowledgeable on products but friendly environment.
Nice store and the people werent pushy.
Knowledgeable & friendly staff.
Good service, fast and convenient
People were nice not pushy... :)
They are fairly knowledgeable and friendly.
This place rules. staff hella friendly n helpful, not pushy upsellers, down to earth n chill folks. shout out to guitar tech kent for hooking it up bigtime w my electric uke prob!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Purchased a used K Custom cymbal on 3/19 via the Guitar Center app and had it shipped to the Portland store. The item arrived and was sent back to its origin immediately due to store closure. With no timetable for when I might receive my item, and with studio time booked, I purchased a replacement elsewhere. Was notified by a GC associate at the origin store via email on 3/25 my 2-day shipping fees would be refunded immediately along with the price of the item. This never happened. Finally in late May I was able to reach an associate on the phone after several unanswered emails to all parties involved (and corporate) who told me I would be receiving a full refund (including shipping). Over ten business days later and no funds returned, I found out the item was re- shipped instead of a refund being initiated immediately. Today-in June!- I was notified by email of a pending refund-for only the price of the cymbal. This has easily been my biggest purchasing nightmare to date. Support your local music store.
I appreciate that no one here laughs at me when I stop by for impromptu performances of classic Everglades songs.
Very helpful and definitely know their business.
Took my guitar in to get it repaired. They had it for one day and was able to fix the issue. Professional and knowledgeable staff. I recommend this Guitar Center for any musical repairs. James is the bomb.😎
Dude was super helpful
Cool store, but some of the dudes working there are pretty rude. I was asking one of their “guitar” guys (some long haired blonde dude) about a line of fenders and If they were gonna bring them in and his response to me was “i don’t know man I play 7 strings” 🤦🏻♂️ Kinda cringeworthy honestly. Other than that most of the longest lasting employees they’ve had are cool and don’t really swarm you that much like most guitar centers. Let’s be real we all wanna Ron Swanson them and say “I know more than you” and walk away but I get it they’re probably miserable.
This is one of my favorite stops whenever Im in the area. If youre into music, sound, piano, or anything in electronics, I have found great equipment and good buys in both the new and used equipment they have in the store. I highly recommend Guitar Center!
Drum sets are in abundance just like the guitars.
Nice selection!
This location often feels understaffed. However, once I tracked down an employee for assistance with an acoustic guitar he kept checking back on me and took the time to discuss options. Once i settled on the guitar i would go on to purchase he saw the entire sale through and even helped me decide on accessories. Not the employees fault hes busy, but if youre willing to be patient with them, they will help you with what you need. They also offer a 45 day return policy if youre not happy with purchase. Thats for the acoustic guitars at least...
Good customer service, not the most receptive management.
Everything you need to make a joyful noise!
Good service.
More empty walls than guitars. Would seem like they are going out of business the way the store looks
No customer service
Excellent services to meet your needs. Not only are they friendly, they seem to care more about fulfilling ones music experience than making a buck! They will share their knowledge and seem to have you leaving inspired by the visit.
Everyone was super helpful.
Great staff and great gear.
Nice selection in a great location. Super helpful staff that go out of their way to make you feel welcome and educated on your purchase. They even make sure they help you find the best deal possible for what you want (even if you dont know a lot about this stuff).
Great place for music accessories. August was a great help in the store. Prices are pretty close to Amazon.
The awesome blue haired lady help me and it was a fantastic experience. I got a new Marshall amp and its so very excited. Shes an awesome sales associate being from Texas and all Id expect nothing less. Thank you very much!
So Enjoyed learning while all of my questions were Answered! My first visit two different fellows were John- one with Nick name Fish on his Name tag! Jazzed I found this place and met respectable, helpful gentleman with a sense of humor at that.Second time Isaac assisted me in the same fashion with such courtesy and informative- Fish was there and I wish I knew the other young mans name cos he was a smiley one too with a winning spirit also- You All Rocked my world and Im grateful.
I am pretty new to anything electric guitar, or any guitar for that matter, but the guys there had all the answers i needed. They suggested products and was amazed when i got home and tried it all out. Great people, knowledgeable staff and good prices.
I regret spending money there. I was party to a manager lecturing a sales associate about prioritizing customer relations decisions based on making a million dollars, as opposed to, what was the right thing to do.Two problems here; one, Never dress down a associate in public. 2, Whats the right thing to do as a customer service representative, over making a million dollars for the store? Im thinking of returning the gear I bought, and going elsewhere. I felt kinda smarmed, or I would go back, its not worth it. Theres lots of other music stores Ill bring going to instead. I dont care if it breaks. BTW, this thing doesnt have negative stars, and wont let you post with out picking a star. I tried to give no stars.
Dream day at the local guitar shop. Guitar Center Portland ROCKS.Sure, they have gear like everyone else and then some. What really sets them apart from the rest, is the crew. Luthier quality, meticulous repair work from a guy who listens and knows how to dial things in with a personal touch. Robert is an excellent avenue to the sound that you want.We pulled the neck off of my P Bass to find that its a 71, felt totally comfortable with his skill level. Smiles and information from the entire staff in a full spectrum sales, repair and studio environment.Great job everyone - Thank you
Its my go to place for my music supplies and other purchases.
The item I wanted was an open box return, which I am always cautious about when its electronics. It was missing a cable however the staff was quick to help me find a replacement for it. An employee Evan rang me up, he seemed new but very friendly.
These guys are simply the very best...not only go out of their way to help us find what we need, but their level of excellence and knowledge of the products made it really a wonderful experience. We think these guys deserve a huge thank you for helping us set up our musical equipment for our band. Dont worry...we will remember you when we are famous!
Knowledgeable and friendly staff
Takes my money... Great deals if you sign up. Easy returns. Sometimes the help is slow though...
Despite having so many staff members, the service here is mediocre at best. The nice thing for customers is this store is pretty quiet and carries many essentials. Saving on tax on larger purchases is great too for Washington residents. I wish I could be wowed by the staff here
Never had anything but good experiences here. The staff is friendly and responsive, but not too pushy. They helped me find the right gear on many occasions. When I ordered online from another guitar center, they took good care of the item. Their own election of used gear is pretty good. Solid place.
Seemed to not be in tune with the people walking in, for example, not finding what we were looking for. Otherwise the staff was very nice. The store is really cool inside.
Mick was very helpful. We ordered a used guitar on-line that came in from TX. He checked it out thoroughly, got us set up with the basic necessities and off we went. Friendly, service oriented and helpful.
I ordered a Clarinet and had it shipped to this location. When we went down to pick it up, we found it defective, and had to return it and order one again. Apparently, we did not like that, especially because it was a 3 hour drive from my place. Surprisingly, the staff there, Wes, made sure that he ordered it again and would have it shipped to my place, with no extra charge! About one week later, we received the Clarinet with no issue at all. My son received his birthday gift a little late, but he loves it! Thanks a lot, Wes!!
They have some great service here. Went in to get a bass amp and they sold me a much nicer used amp for a lot cheaper than the model I planned on purchasing. Ive had it for over six months, and it has proven its worth.
My favorite thing about this place is how quick service is! You see, when the employees dont want you in their store, and make it obvious, its very quick and easy for me as the customer to be right on my way. Thanks guitar center! I wont see you again! ;-D
Im sure Guitar Center will be out of business fairly soon as their selection is complete garbage but their customer service, or lack thereof, is probably the worst thing about this location. Youll wait in a line even when the store is completely empty, which it always is. You practically have to beg to get checked out and the cashiers always fumble through the process like its the first time theyve ever performed a transaction. If you need assistance to get into one of the locked cases or to ask a question, you better be prepared. Bring enough food and water to get you through the day and be sure to let your family and friends know where youll be in case they get worried that youre missing.
Great staff. Incredible selection. I love all the new toys I got here recently for making my music. Thanks
They do their job and they know what their doing. Dont hesitate to try their instruments out.
Very good staff interactions. No pressure situations but always ready to help.
Wow.... Thank goodness for brick and morter stores where you can look at things up close and make sure you get what you want... This place is all about music... Not just guitars!
I have never had a problem with Guitar Center whether at this location or the Clackamas location. The staff are always helpful and never push you to buy anything. I just did an easy return today. The guy was very easy-going and pretty chill.
Place was clean and well stocked, people were mostly helpful. The guitar I bought wasnt set up in the slightest but they made it right. Seems like a decent spot to get your gear at a good price. Especially because of the selection.
