Italian-American restaurant. The place is spacious. There is a suitable distance between the tables for those who are afraid of covidMenu is limited but the dishes are delicious. We ordered pizza, pasta and salad. They were all great.Pizza with excellent crunchy dough.Pasta is well made with an excellent sauce. And a delicious salad. We also ate 3 desserts that were really tasty. We really enjoyed it.
Most of the reviews discuss how amazing the food here is. Unfortunately, we did not get a chance to try any of the food as the staff were incredibly aggressive and we were instructed to leave before we even got a chance to order dinner. This restaurant does not know how to handle a party of 8. We were rudely greeted by a woman that introduced herself as the owner after she was very offended when we asked if we could order drinks from her. The attitude from the staff started the minute we walked in the door and continued until a man approached our table with a loud voice letting us all know that we had to leave immediately. The rest of the staff could be found snickering behind the bar while we paid our bill for the bottles of wine and appetizers that we did not get to enjoy. Long story short I will be sure to shout from the rooftops that this is not a restaurant I would recommend for any occasion but specifically a joyous one as they frown on laughter and celebration.
Incredible food, was such an amazing balance of flavors and textures you just couldnt put the fork down. Upscale feel on the inside without being pretentious. Amazing experience and would recommend to everyone!
Nice homei restaurant. I love the place. The main courses were great, but the desserts were wonderful! (We took 3 desserts out of 4 options). The service was nice and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely. The only bad thing I can say about this place is that its not in my home town, so I cant come back as much as I want to.
Super disappointed. Very aggressive staff. They were on the offensive they got in the faces of our group. They didn’t know how to handle a party. It was extremely disappointing. I wouldn’t eat here again. The staff were humiliating. They were unprofessional. They were not good people. They also couldn’t agree with each other what the rules were. Horrible don’t go here. Trash. Manic trash. Garbage.
Delicious food, absolutely terrible service. We have done takeout from Lucca throughout the pandemic and it was always delicious, but our dine-in experience there was awful. The hostess (female, short pixie hair, intense frown) was quite surly and treated us as an inconvenience, even though we had made reservations. After being seated, no one came by to take our drink orders for 20 min. We almost got up and left until a very nice older woman filled our water glasses and we asked her if we could please order. It was a miracle that we even got the food. The server who was apparently assigned to our table decided to make an appearance about halfway through our meal to see how things were, and then he didn’t come back for another 20 min. when we were nearly done. It was very frustrating to be forgotten about. I understand that restaurants are still getting into their groove after COVID, but this service was ridiculous. Zero communication from all but one of the staff there. I’m very disappointed in this experience, and even though it’s walking distance from our house, we won’t be going back.
Everything I have ever eaten here was fantastic from pizza to pasta to roast chicken. The staff knows the food and the drinks are perfectly balanced. If you want a table, get your name on the list early and go for a walk. Theyll call you back. Cant wait? Order take out.
Went on a business lunch here on a recommendation. It’s a really quaint neighborhood eatery; parking was surprisingly easy no problem.Everyone there is super friendly and attentive. Little to no wait on anything during the whole time. Great ambience and decor for anything from a business meal to a date night.Food is fantastic! We both had the Caesar Salad. My colleague had the pizza which he said was great. And I had the garganelli pasta dish which is phenomenal. The sauce and mushrooms are excellent but it’s the house made fennel sausage that is the star of the show. We split the house made pistachio ice cream which is as good as it gets.I definitely plan on returning and highly recommend that you give them a try.
I ordered two pizzas online and was told they would be ready in 35 minutes. I showed up 45 minutes later and have been waiting for 20 minutes in my car with three kids. No one can tell me how long Ill have to wait. The communication needs to be better. I wont do this to my family again.
Good service, nice choice of wines.Food was great, they make their own pasta which is tender and slightly chewy the way it should be.
Delicious food and great service. The clams were cooked perfectly and the brown butter pasta was some of the best Ive ever had. Our server Steven was a gem, knowledgeable and courteous. Ill definitely be returning soon.
A true neighborhood place. Amazing food and service with a quaint atmosphere. We love it here
Had their New Years Eve takeout meal with risotto. So delicious! Brought out to us curbside, was fresh and cold items were cold, hot items were hot. Everything was thoughtfully packaged for the ride home and made serving a beautiful multi course dinner easy. Will definitely be back. Best mushroom risotto I have ever had-and I lived in Italy for years!
Passable food with occasionally lovely dishes. Horrible hostess (short haired woman with pixie cut) that should be immediately fired. Until that happens we will no longer eat here, which we do at least once per week. The last few times we’ve been here, this same hostess has been awful. Too bad a neighborhood establishment couldn’t be better.
Wow. Unreal food. No kidding one of the best things Ive ever put in my mouth (bruscetta) and like top 3 pizza Ive ever had (mushroom and truffle thing). Fantastic.
My girlfriend had been walking by this restaurant for a few weeks and had always wanted to go as from the street everyone inside always seemed to enjoy themselves. When we arrived they had just started to get busy and we were lucky enough to get 2 spots. We were pleasently welcomed by the waitress and were allowed the perfect amount of time to choose our initial drinks and when they arrived we were greeted by one of the best bread appetizers Ive had! Their cocktails are definitely some of the best Ive ever had. The wine selection with dinner was also exceptional and the main dishes speak are also delicious. This place may be a little higher priced, but the food and experience are WELL within the value. Highly recommend!!!
Pickup order: The pizza is good. But the experience of lack there of customer service was less than par. If you don’t mind the “I’m too good ATTITUDES.” (S) no WELCOMING Hello, no how can I help you, the demeanor was like, what do you want what do you need attitude.
Lucca is fantastic, and I’d hate for this place to become so popular you can never get a table (when tables are a thing again), but they deserve that kind of success. I started with the pizzas, which are really good, then ventured into the steak, which is always cooked to perfection, and lately I just can’t get over their pasta. In the before-times, they had a chanterelle, sage, lemon zest pasta situation that I still long for. These days, their curbside pickup system is delivering more pasta perfection (other things too, I’m sure). ☺️ We’re so lucky to have this gem in the neighborhood.
Lucca has many qualities: good location, an airy dining room, competent service, appealingly presented dishes overflowing with appetizing and creative combinations. Last nights Burrata board included figs, prosciutto, blackberries, plums, and crostini. The Agnolotti were perfect pillows of pasta filled with just the right filling floating in a parmiggiano broth. My salmon crudo appetizer was the only disappointment: the salmon tartar was tasteless and therefore overpowered by the overly salty caper-studded greens served alongside it. Our server graciously allowed me to impose my Italian pronunciation on agnolotti: ahn-yo-lawt-tea.
Great food but hugely inefficient with covid protocols. I placed an order 1.5h before arriving, and when I came to pick it up they had not started until I checked in, and I was then instructed to wait by my car a block away for them to deliver my order. After 20 min of waiting I went back to clarify and it had been ready the whole time
Its all about the pizza here. Thin crust and wood fired. Its our go to place for upscale takeout. Note that they will also do really good wines to go.
Great spot for a pizza and wine deal. Dessert was awesome too. Excited to try it in person when restrictions lift. Take out was super easy too - will be back!
Excellent food, excellent service, good prices.
I love taking my kids here after school for happy hour. The staff is super friendly and makes it easy for me enjoy myself. Thank you!
Delicious food, and fantastic service!
Italian food... my favorite treat. Service is awesome even when they are busy. I see why this place has so many great reviews.
Consistently the best!
They ran out to car. Got my name. Moments later delivered the delicious food to my passenger seat. Wonderful!
Our favorite place in the neighborhood. Good food, drinks, family friendly and great staff.
First time at Lucca and it was great. Will be returning to try more of the menu
Food is great! They really have their takeout system down too. They dont finish cooking your food until youre there and checked in with the host. Id much rather wait for my food knowing its fresh than my food wait for me.
Great ambience. The relaxed bar area makes the restaurant a bit noisy, but there is a side room that is a bit quieter. The food was a delicious twist on Italian recipes. The traditional wood fired oven was a great to see in action. Service was attentive. We did not feel hurried to leave. Much like Italian restaurants, we had to ask for the bill
One of the few restaurants Ive went to that Ive enjoyed everything Ive tried. Good food, nice atmosphere, highly recommend.
It had been a while since we visited because of various travel and other engagements. We sat at the bar and the attention that Steve gave us was perfect. The salad to start was simple but wonderful. As usual, the dressing was an excellent topping to the salad. We ordered a pizza as we feel it is one of Luccas specialties. We were not disappointed! Just enough heat to make it interesting.Lastly, Steve makes one of the best lemon drops one could ever order - or even order twice!
Stood out front store waiting for pickup for 20 minutes after it said I should pick it up
I chose this restaurant for an evening business meal and was a little concerned they would not be able to accomodate the 6 of us. It was wonderful and the wait staff was very attentive. They kept our glasses full the appetizers were delicious and had a beautiful presentation. The meal was equally delicious as was dessert. I will definitely bring my husband back for a relaxing meal.
My first time here, and certainly wont be my last. Perfect location for a lunch meeting, seating was comfortable and my meal was AMAZING. Had I not been there for business I may have asked for bread to sop up the sauce from my plate. 😌 Looking forward to heading here for date night with a bottle of wine!
Great food and wine, but currently only outdoor seating which can be problematic in Oregon.
Service was phenomenal! Only had a short time and went there from the airport.. they found me a spot at the bar and had some (amazing ) oven fired pizza!! Would to go back in a heartbeat..and definitely on my next visit to Portland
Food was delicious as always. Service not so great. over an hour before our food arrived. They filled our water glasses often but waitress never lifted our wine bottle to see if we still had wine. In past visits waiter always was checking if we needed another bottle of wine. waitress should realize that a bottle is not going to last long. Waitress needs some training. She was nice but not upselling and her tips will suffer as a result. We have eaten here for about 10 years but based on our experience tonight it may be 10 more years before we return.
Dissapointingly slow took almost an hour to get a basic pizza order
Food was good, not great. Cute interior.
Met friends for dinner and wine. It was delicious! I had an amazing pizza. Lots of great items on the menu!
The food was excellent, the was service great. What more can I say? I loved it! Ill definitely be back.
Amazing, delicious meal with promt and helpful servers! They make all their bread and pasta in-house, all spectacular. They have all of your favorite dishes prepared in true Italian form, along with some unique and unusual menu options! They have a wonderful selection of wine, which your server can guide you through based on your personal preferences. I will definitely visit here every time I come through Portland!
My favorite. Always. Excellent crisp pizza and fresh seasonal ingredients. Creative and intriguing. I love LUCCA
So good. Food is delicious, service is excellent.
Had an exceptional Sunday dinner; yummy pasta & dessert. Friendly & pleasant staff. Great atmosphere & crowd. Definitely on my return list!
Ive been to Lucca half a dozen times over the last two years and I always come away impressed by menu and the service. With a perfect mixture of simple Italian dishes, creative pizzas, and killer appitizers this is place youll return to. Its a relatively small space, and can get a little loud on the weekends, but its got a great vibe. Wine list leans toward the Italian staples, with some great bottles that arent overpriced.
Welcoming venue, good food with interesting cuisine. Great prices. But the very best of Lucca was the excellent, attentive and well informed Sean, our waiter and culinary guide. Made us feel like we want to come back again and again.
The pasta and pizzas are delicious and fresh, the customer service is impeccable and the prices are good!
Family friendly and the most amazing food. Friendly staff. Each time is like the first. Perfect.
Everything we had was excellent. Wine, appetizer, pasta, soup, salad and tiramisu. All excellent, with a polite staff in a charming, cozy atmosphere.
Nice mature crowd. Didnt do drinks but they seemed competent. Clam chowder (with clams in the shell) was very good.
I thought it was really weird for the server to come over and ask do you guys really have a reservation? after we had already been seated and served cocktails. It was also highly rude of him to rush us several times for our orders, but never check in on us.
Went to Lucca for a romantic dinner with my awesome girlfriend. The atmosphere was nice, but the dining room was Incredibly noisy, and provided little air for conversation. The service was good, and we opted to sit at the bar for dinner. The food was SUB-PAR, we ordered the half chicken, and I was Not impressed, I can cook a much better chicken at home. Also we tried one of their signature pizzas, also a disappointment, as it was relatively flavorless and entirely too greasy. All in all, if you want to spend Way too much on an All right dinner, be my guest, in fact, you can have my seat, I wont be returning...
Great service and atmosphere, and ofcourse, food was delicious! Had the kinda old fashion drink, one of the best old fashions Ive had. Would go again.
Great experience for a large group. Service was friendly, prompt, and accurate. The food was great. Really enjoyed the pizza and appetizers.
Literally, you can eat anywhere else and have a better experience. Foods mediocre, felt like I was sitting in a home town buffet, and the service is next to none.
Delicious all the way around. From great cocktails to mouth watering food. Service to match ;)
ADVICE: Check your food before you start eating!! Yesterday, my wife and I went for dinner and ordered seafood brodetto”, the prawns on one side were raw (totally gray, not even a little pink), the fish and mussels were way too undercooked almost raw as well. I wanted to leave this place immediately but since we were with friends (who by chance ordered pizzas), our plates went back to the kitchen for another 20 minutes (seriously, 20 minutes to cook prawns?!?). Our plates came back when, of course, our friends already finished eating. Seafood is my favorite dish and I cook quite often live crabs, shrimp, etc. I did not know that raw prawns were a new trend in Portland restaurants, or at least it is the trend at Lucca. If you want to become a sushi place, use the correct and safer ingredients to do so. It is unacceptable from this type of restaurant. The waiter apologized; still Lucca’s “chef” should attend cooking classes and needs serious training. Thanks for ruining our evening. Last time you see us at your restaurant.
We Chose Lucca For Our First Experience There Tonight (Valentines Day) and I Made the Reservation 4 Weeks In Advance. We Were Seated at a 2 Top by the Bar (Which was Fine Since I Expected It to be Very Busy and it was) We Received Water from the Busser and a Basket of Bread and Sat There for 15 minutes While No One Even Looked Our Way. There was Plenty of Staff and At Least 5 to 6 Servers Breezed By Our Table Busily, While the Hostess and I Assume the Manager Stood Over the Computer at the Host Stand Chatting While I Tried to Catch Someones (Anyones) Eye. Our Menus Sat Stacked on the Table, Empty Bread Bowl, Empty Waters, and Still No One Stopped to Greet Us or Ask if We Would Like a Beverage. I Finally Was Able to Flag Down a Male Server and Asked (Nicely) If Anyone Was Planning to Take Our Table? He was Very Apologetic and Took Our Order Right Away Since We Had Long Been Decided, But Said that We Were Not in his Section and he Did Not Know Who was to be Serving Us. We Would Have Ordered Drinks or Possibly a Special for Valentines Day, But Do Not Even Know If They Had Any, Since None Were Offered to Us! The Guy I Flagged Down Initially Ended Up Serving Us and Did a Good Job (Very Nice), But the Ambiance Seemed Very Unorganized, Rushed, and Chaotic. We Spent $90 on a Dinner that was Supposed to be Special, and It was Just Meh. Soup served Cold, Waters not Refilled, Scallops Overly Salty. We Ate and Left Quickly As I was Being Bumped AT the Table Every Time Someone Rushed by (We were Sat Next to the Bar and Directly Next to Servers Main Walkway) We Tipped Our Server 20% Anyways (We are Both Ex Service Industry) and He Did a Good Job Stepping In, But Were Really Disappointed in the Lack of Communication Between the Host and Service Staff. Lucca Leaves A LOT to be Desired in the Service Department, and the Food, Although Good, Was Nothing Special. In a City Like Portland with Many Choices for Top Notch Food and Service, Lucca Came Up So Short! What a Disappointment on Such a Special Occasion Where They Could Have Really Shined! We Will Not be Back, But They Probably Wont Even Notice...
I was going through a veggie phase for a while, but once I saw the chicken pizza my BF had....bye bye veggie phase, bring on the meat!! The pizza was delicious and full of flavor. The crust was perfect!!
OMG Best pizza Ive ever had
Delightful restaurant! Have been on multiple occasions over a number of years and the experience has been consistently satisfying. This last time I took my wife there for Valentine’s Day. We had a full three course experience and loved each of them! Great food and wine selection and quality.
I had he worst dinner there a month ago. No one greeted me or even looked my way for 10 minutesThe seafood appetizer had so much garlic I couldn’t feel my tongue for the next course which was way undercoocked pastaNo one on the staff looked at each other or chatted like staff does in most restaurants that was weirdI will not go back as it is an expensive restaurant it should show 3 dollar signs not two! $$$ blah
Excellent service, good Italian food. Shawn was our server and he is one of the friendliest people Ive met recently. They were busy on the night that we visited, but we were seated quickly and didnt have to wait very long for the food to come out. Overall, it was an excellent meal, a good experience and a decent price.
The lunch menu is excellent and food is delicious. I had Italian sandwich which was great. Others had assortments if pizzas, soups and salads. We didn’t talk as we were all eating! That says a lot for this group.
Amazing homemade pastas! Service is friendly and delightful. This restaurant has quickly become a date night favorite.
Stopped by during my Oregon trip and it was the first time I ever tried duck. Its a high dining place so if thats not your thing (its not usually my cup of tea) either go in with an open mind to try new things or avoid this place. It is worth a look though even if its not your usual stop. The food is really good and so are the drinks and the desserts. A bit pricey for someone like me but worth it when someone else is footing the bill.
I had a chicken panini on ciabatta bread. The chicken was moist and tender, and the ciabatta was perfect. It was crispy on the outside, and very delicate inside. Most ciabatta that is perfectly baked on the outside tends to be either dry, or really heavy on the inside... but this was light and airy. I recommend!
We always have a nice dinner at Luccas. Sat at the bar and enjoyed the activities and friendly staff. Love their Beet Salad.
Well, they let you make a reservation but they don,t actually hold the reservation. The bread they give you before dinner was the best part. I ordered a Cesar salad that was so over powered by anchovie paste I could not really eat it.The octopus appetizer was over cooked and rubbery. I ordered a coke and the waitress only refilled it once the entire meal. my wifes old fashioned was so bad she did not drink it. ( waitress asked at end of meal if my wife liked it and she was like no) we still had to pay for a drink that was horrible. The pork shoulder was so salty I could not eat it and i asked for something else and I got the Tagliatellea traditional pork & beef bolognese, the pasta was so over cooked it was horrible.over all it is not Nostrana which is where we should have gone in the first place .
The risotto was delicious! Holy cow that was good.
Great neighborhood place. Beautiful food, yummy drinks. Affogato to die for!
Lively neighborhood place, good food, nice drinks, friendly service. Lucca is a standby for my NE Portland circle of family and friends. Their wood-oven pizzas are tasty, I love the kale salad, the quality and freshness has never disappointed, and its always fun to go get a bunch of appetizers and some drinks and watch the neighborhood go by.
Both of us found the Nicoise tuna a little plain. Our server was very helpful with that. She was a little too helpful, however, when it came to my pronunciation of a dessert item on the menu. I felt a little funny being corrected... especially since she was incorrect.
Good, friendly service. My lunch was excellent. Wonderful pasta dish. Will return soon.
Food was excellent, service was very good, prices were reasonable. I experienced no wait time issues. I will go back again
This is a very good restaurant in a nice neighborhood with ample parking. The food was excellent and the service was great too. Our waiter really knew about food and wine combinations. The mussels and rabbit were fantastic.
Delicious brussels sprouts, tasty northern Italy-style wood fired pizza (with an egg in the middle!), and good wine. Not the absolute best pizza in Portland, but definitely in the top tier. Great, friendly service with lots of recommendations for both food and wine. Reservation recommended on weekends.
We came in at 503pm happy hour signs out . The place was pretty empty and the hostess seemed like she didnt want to seat my friend and I. It was a pretty afternoon asked to sit outside and she complied. We werent given place settings, silverware or small plates. It took pretty long time to get our order. I do have to say Carla was very pleasant. We ordered a meat board it wasnt served with bread. The pizza dough was yummy. It was an ok experience just probably wont be back.
Came for the happy for the spinach salad and Arrabbiata pizza. Salad and Pizza were exceptional, very good! Nice atmosphere and great happy hour prices.
Very good food and service. Smaller menu but great food.
Friendly, comfortable, yummy. A bit pricey. Reservation recommended, especially Saturday night; it was crowded. While youre in the area, check out the huge Garden store next door or the little pet store across the street.
Lucca is OK. It wont blow your mind but it wont completely disappoint. I go there because it is close to my house and my 11 year old happens to love it.Their pizza is pretty good but pales in comparison to Kens Artisan and Life of Pie. Their pasta is good as well but nothing special. Its all just really unremarkable.I feel like they would be better suited rebranding as a pizza place and focusing on creating the best wood-fired pizzas possible. OR going for a fancier menu. Right now they are stuck in this purgatory where they arent a fancy and amazing restaurant but they also arent a quick place to snag lunch.
Very enjoyable rustic Italian fare! Always available seating at the bar where service and drinks are top notch.
Fabulous food, even better service! I will be back again and and again
Lovely intimate restaurant with good food, great wines and attentive service
Love Lucca. Great vibe and great food. Very child friendly.
I had a pizza with egg in the middle, absolutely amazing. Great selection of wine.Worth every penny.
