This place has been around for a long time (over 40 years) and it’s pretty awesome although it could use a renovation. There’s almost always a line but it goes fast. The blend-in’s are their specialty and mine, vanilla malt ice cream with Reece’s Pieces, was one of the best flavors I’ve had perhaps ever. Ranks in the top five ice cream spots for sure.
Always excellent ice cream here! Very high quality. Lots of the flavor that the ice cream is called with lots of nuts or other additions. The price is for a premium ice cream and thats what you get! Chocolate mousse is spectacular dark rich chocolate. Butter pecan is buttery with many pecans. Malt is malty. I could go on and on. And they make blend-ins with fresh fruit or candies. And great milk shakes. Even in a blizzard when all the other restaurants were closed, they were open with a line. On a side note, the servers are called sweeties.
I used to come here as a kid when I was 6, I recently emegrated back to the area having lived in England for 24 years, and the Icecream is just as good as my nostalgic memories if not better... Vanilla - M&M blend in on a warm summers evening - nothing beats it
Great selection of ice creams and frozen yogurt. I really like being able to get sugar free yogurts.
One of my favorite ice cream shop in Princeton. Not cloyingly sweet so it’s a nice summer treat for my toddler.
This is the best ice cream place in town. They have non-fat sugar free soft serve which seems to be the only store in town that has this. Their fresh waffle cones and blend-ins go super well together and make a great mid day snack.
Great atmosphere, staff vibe was awesome and helpful. Some of the best Ice Cream I’ve had in a long time. My order was the Triple scoop Cinnamon, Espresso and Chai ice cream - Incredible👏
Their blend-in ice cream is great and the warm waffle cone is incredible.
Great time. Had a nice band playing outside. The ice cream is unforgettable.
Over priced ice creams. Tried the midnight Jersey shore. It was sugary at best. Friendly staff though.
Sweet staff, amazing flavors of ice cream. There might be a small queue during busy hours, but that only shows how amazing the ice creams are! Would recommend.
It was just okay. Service was nice but I felt really rushed and anxious because it’s a popular spot and there was a line out the door.I ended up getting a sugar cone with cherry vanilla and the first cone had a really icy/freezer burn mouthfeel. It’s pricey, we ended up getting four ice creams (1-2 scoops each) and the total was around $22.Employees were super nice and replaced my ice cream for a fresh batch which was very creamy, but taste wasn’t my favorite, tasted like sweet cream ice cream without the cherry flavor. Maybe they have other flavors that make them stand out?TL;DR - Personally, it was underwhelming. But I might have not gotten a flavor they’re really known for.
Excellent personnel behind the counter. Remember to leave a tip! 🍨🍦
Great ice cream for a great price. I’ve been coming here for a couple of years now and it’s the best spot in town for something sweet
Felt like a kid again 🤣Walked in and the staff was polite and kind. No wait time at all and was as simple as ordering fast food. Thanks for dealing with my demands, loved the sweets!
Creamy wonderful ice cream, we fell in love instantly. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere screams ice cream shoppe
Very nice place, the Strawberries and Rum raisins ice creams were amazing, 5 starts place
Thomas Sweet is the best ice cream in town. I always came here as a kid and now I usually go to the location in west windsor closer to me but I still come into the princeton location every so often because the outside dining area is so nice.
Over-rated the ice cream was basic nothing fancy and they gave me a frozen banana on top not even cut up and no one listens
Raspberry and vanilla perfect combination! Absolutely amazing!
Thomas Sweet has been #1 for us for over 20 years. We drive over an hour to come back and have the best ice cream EVER. The blend in is the original- anything from other ice cream stores is a poor imitation...Today I called on my way down the turnpike to pickup pints of blend in heaven and had the pleasure of speaking with Cameron the manager. I called twice because it was so busy there- and had to hang up while I was on hold. I couldnt believe that Cameron took the time to call me back and take my order! What a great manager- thank you so much! We introduced our kids to our childhood favorite and now we will be back forever! Heres our go to blend in: Cookies and creme ice cream/peanut m and m/peanut butter cup. Trust me....
Absolutely loved this place. Lots of amazing memories here.
Ice cream is good but rude service (was here Thursday at 12:30pm). Personnel require training on customer service. Not surprised this establishment is being beat by their competitor in Palmer Square.
I havent been to my hometown in years, but this is the best icecream word wide!!!!
Very good ice cream 🍨😋
Great selection, very tasty ice cream, quick service
Love the ice cream
Staff friendly. Nice soft serve and hard ice cream options and toppings
Best ice cream ever! My friends and I went two nights in a row! Also staff is very friendly and helpful.
Wonderful sweets & Ice cream shop in Princeton University campus areas
Ice cream was so tasty and staff was friendly
Good ice cream. Only wish they had more non diary beside sorbet
Awesome place for ice cream
Good and lots of flavors with interesting mix in flavors like oreo and many others and mint flavor that doesnt taste like toothpaste.
Great ice cream and toppings selection. Only once Ive had a slow experience, probably bc the girl was new and didnt know the mix in machine that well. Not the end of the world at all. Every other time they are always stocked with the flavors and I was away satisfied.
Try all the flavors :)
Not as good as halo pub, but still great! Their hot fudge is delicious
Good ice cream 🍦
Quite frankly, the line was incredibly long. The wait to spend 22.00 dollars was not worth the time. Over the years I have been a customer in both locations. The portion size was acceptable however the taste did not blow me away when I waited for 30 minutes for average tasting ice cream. Sorry Thomas it has been better.
I went here last night after going to a school concert. Kids love this place to hang out and the service is pretty good. The ice cream is good and they have a variety of flavors. I really enjoy the vanilla milkshake for it is very delicious! It also is really fun for the kids to hang out after an event. A little bit small but is really good. You should come here!
Best ice cream in princeton!
Classic ice cream in Princeton. Theyve got great fresh flavors and you can blend in a bunch of toppings. Lactose free or sugar free options are usually available from what I remember. You can see a line coming out of it any warm night. Definitely worth a visit if youre new to the area.
Oh man, the ice cream is so smooth and delicious! I wish I could live nearby to have their ice cream every single day during the summer!
I can’t really tell you I’m the ice cream expert but I can tell you that I know good ice cream, Thomas by far is the best in town!
There are so many great ice cream options in Princeton. In any other town, TS would get five stars, but their product just isnt as good as what you get at Bent Spoon, Halo Pub, Kilwins, or Purple Cow (in Lawrenceville).
Amazing combination of different ice creams and able to blend flavors into them.
Ive been living in the US, in NYC, for the past 6 months, and came to Princeton just for the weekend. I have to say this was the best ice cream I had in America so far! A tip for you: cinnamon ice cream with blended in oreos. thats pure love
Can I say yummmm. Creamy ice cream with amazing flavors.
I ordered the Raspberry Ice Cream. Was tasteless! If I wasnt told it was Raspberry before and was asked to guess, I would have struggled for the correct answer.
Very good
The best ice cream in the area or most areas, bar none!! Been coming to Thomas Sweets for over 10+ years. Friendly and attentive staff. Generous portions. Great selections! Long lines but really worth the wait. If your in the area, stop by and dont miss out. Enjoy! 🍦
The ice cream and service was good but the prices were high. $4.50-4.75 for a small scoop of ice cream seems expensive.
Great ice cream, especially if you like DIY blended flavors.
Yes! A plus we didnt have to travel to New Brunswick. Great ice cream. Pleasant seating area outside to watch locals at Princeton.
Have been enjoying their ice cream since I was a kid and it never disappoints
Best old school ice cream place in town. Love the sweet cream blend in with Reeses. I come here whenever I get the chance and will continue to do so for years to come. Highly recommend this place if you like ice cream
It is a really nice ice cream shop and I like the flavour variety. The only problem is that the walnut flavour is too sour/salty
This place is definitely always busy but it’s no surprise. Their sweet treats are such a delight. My husband and I frequented this place regularly for dates when we lived in Princeton. It is kept clean, family friendly, and the staff are polite and helpful. The only downside is that it doesn’t seem to be able to fit the amount of people it serves, i.e. not too many seats and tables.
The classic Princeton spot. The ice cream is very good. But the blend ins as otherworldly and worth the experience.
Incredible nice
Best ice cream spot in Princeton - much better than Halo Pub or the Bent Spoon in my opinion. Definitely get a blend-in!
Great selection of ice cream. My personal favorite is the coffee ice cream. They also have a very friendly staff of college kids as well. Overall wonderful however the ice cream is a little pricey but not bad overall.
Try the vanilla whopper with chocolate chips...HEAVEN!!!
I had a surprisingly disappointing experience at Thomas Sweet today. I love good ice cream and have no problem paying premium prices for premium ice cream but my experience was far from premium. The menu was really interesting and it was difficult to choose. The chocolate peanut butter scoop I ordered was very soft and had almost no peanut butter in it and the chocolate tasted off. It had a hue of disinfectant which is what the shop smells like. My mom had vanilla and described it as tasting like it was old and in the carton too long. My daughter was happy with her mix in creation until the $2 extra cone got too soggy and the ice cream fell out the bottom. So overall we hope this was a one-off but won’t be going back anytime soon.
The ice cream here always tastes and looks fresh, and there are always interesting new flavors to try here. I love this place and will never fail to come back. The best!
I enjoyed the ice cream a lot and the atmosphere was adorable, but they did give me the wrong ice cream (I had asked for chocolate chunk but they gave me chocolate chocolate chunk.) it was delicious anyway and had the part that I cared more about, the aforementioned chunks, but maybe having more obvious names for each flavor might have prevented that. I could only see mix-in names and the mixable flavors on the boards... Maybe I just missed it!
By far the best ice cream in Central Jersey. One hint you can blend to flavors as well as various adding this into Mix in. Youll see what I mean when you get there. But definitely go
Messy and delicious !
I live in Sweden bur my grandfather lives in Princeton and we visit every summer and this is always one of the highlights. I cannot describe how great it is really other than by saying that it is just a cozy spot where you always feel welcome and never leave sad. (Unless you didnt buy something. Then youre sad because you really missed out on something)
Just had our regular family trip to Thomas sweet. We got our regular ice cream but my daughters typical cookies and cream milkshake tasted pretty plane. I immediately brought it back only to have the employee (girl) wearing an orange shirt tell me that I could pay for a new one since I had left the store. Literally left the store to give the milkshake to my daughter who was in the car. I paid $20 for 3 small ice creams and a shake. We been coming here for years and this is the first time it happened. Im really disappointed with their customer service. Im in retail myself and I would have done a much better job. Not coming here again, letting everyone know about this incident from now on. It is just ice cream, Im sure that adding a scoop to a shake would have solve this issue. Very incompetent crew working there tonight. February 7th at 7:30 pm. I hope you read this and find out it is you Im talking about. You dont belong there. Girl with orange shirt. If this is your shift you know is you.
I don’t find anything special about this ice cream place. But they carry different flavors. So people who are so much into ice creams might like this place. Will keep posted when I try a different flavor other than my favorite mango
Cute ice cream shop with yummy flavors and great blend in options. Love that they have frozen yogurt, too. Fun place to bring the family especially on the weekend in the summer when they have live music outside.
The blendables are a nice concept. Might be a bit too sweet. But still really good ice cream
A classic and a local landmark, and both better and less crowded than youll find at any of the ice cream spots in Palmer Square. (Sorry, Halo!) Theyll blend any flavor with any topping, so you could get a different combination every day of the year. Also a great first-date spot; get a cup or cone to go, and youll be finished right about the time your stroll takes you to the campus art museum. Trust me on this one.
Ive been a fan of the amazing ice cream and blend-ins at Thomas Sweet for many years. However, recently we had occasion to visit there, in cold weather, with a relative in a wheelchair. The Princeton shop on Nassau Street is NOT wheelchair accessible. This is rather ridiculous because they have 2 entrances (one at the front of the building, on Nassau Street, and one on the alley side of the building); a ramp could easily be installed on the alley side of the building. In fact, the shop next door, the only entrance for which is also on the alley, has a ramp. At Thomas Sweet, there is a bell for handicapped patrons to ring. All this means is that someone will come out and take your order, then bring it to you. But you cant see the available flavors, and in the middle of the winter, who wants to sit outside in a wheelchair waiting for ice cream? And then, where will you eat it? A ramp on the side entrance would be simple, inclusive solution.
The best of the best. Get a blend in.
Hands down my favorite ice cream place ever! The ice cream is rich and creamy, simply delicious. The blend ins are a great way to get a mixture of flavors in a soft serve style. My personal go to is a blend in with chocolate icecream blended with peanut butter cups, and cake crunch on top.
High cream locally made ice cream. Ive been here since 1982, shortly after the opening. Product quality remains very high.
Always great options with blend ins.
Build your item flavor via blend-in, a decades-old formula that Ive enjoyed from my childhood and into the future. Chocolate ice cream (or coffee) blended with Oreos and Peanut butter cups is my top combo.
Always great ice cream, and the blend ins are good too. I love the Jersey shore salted caramel.
Delicious
This has amazing customer service and great ice cream. Specially love the place we’re it’s located too. It’s happening !!!!
During peak season at prime time, expect to wait. But the wait is well worth it. Exceptional choco shakes and a fun filled selection of home made ice cream blends. My wife and I frequent here for date nights. Get a cone and hit the block into the university for a nice evening stroll. Thanks TS for being a solid staple in our community.
Yum! Classic ice cream shop. Very cute very tasty.
One of my favorite spots in Princeton. Of all the dessert options on Nassau I really think this one is the best. Had the Moose Tracks it was great.
Long lines but great ice cream choices. I went for a blended ice cream which basically means you pick a flavored ice cream then add a mix in and a machine will mix it up for you ( like a Mc flurry/Dairy Queen blizzard ) when I got the ice cream back it was really soupy .... but good. All in all it was O.K but nothing id wait 20 plus minutes for
Good ice cream, but I was confused by the blended option... it made the ice cream into a thick soup with a corn starch-y consistency. I didn’t love it but didn’t not like it either.
Have been eating TS for over 40 years, its the BEST, 😋 😋
Popular ice cream joint... This is their original location since 1979. Worth the wait.
The customer service was horrible there was a lady behind the counter who was absolutely horrible and they told me that they couldn’t serve cones but there were cones in front they where just sour human beings it’s July 4th 8:15 at night it’s was so exciting going and now it’s ruined I will never go again
Good Ice cream but an Im too busy to accommodate your special needs peanut allergy policy.
Awesome ice cream flavours with old school place vibe.
A staple to the town and campus of Princeton. Wide variety of flavors and known for their blend-ins. You can never go wrong by stopping here on a hot summer day
Great ice cream shop. Historic place, known for Einstein visiting it during his University days
