Stopped by Downshift on a cross country bike trip. I was dehydrated, hungry and in need of bike maintenance. Needless to say, all three needs were satisfied.Also, I have a fairly high B.S. detector for bike maintenance... I had stopped at another bike shop earlier, and left since they were trying to over-sell me on a bunch of maintenance I didnt need.The staff here was VERY knowledgeable (and very quick). I got what my bike needed in 15 minutes. Would strongly recommend their maintenance.Also, had a filling Fresh Bowl and some much needed coffee. All surprsingly high quality (I was surprised because I thought that the focus of the shop would be bike maintenance... Not food and coffee). I would rate their food experience 5 stars as well.

Looked everywhere for the bike my daughter wanted for her birthday and finally found it here. Not only were they quick to respond to my text but sealed the deal and shipped it to Utah the next day at a great price. Wish they were here local. Top notch service. Thank you!

Stephen helped me secure a bike for bike commuting during the COVID shortage. He was very transparent and communicative about delays/timelines and was quick to let me know when they had the bike I wanted in stock. Working with Downshift I was able to get the bike I wanted a month or so sooner than had I bought directly from the vendor.

Stay away from this bike shop. They have been known to do work on your bike without approval then hold it hostage until you pay up. Super shady place. I can almost never get a straight answer from these guys. I’d avoid it if you could.

They are so friendly and helpful! Had a perpetual flat they diagnosed and fixed for $20 and even put an end stopper on my uphill handlebar! Will come back to visit for drinks.

Awesome cafe inside a cool urban commuter bicycle shop. Black eye coffee was amazing from a Lexington VA roaster. Breakfast bowl yummies

Stay away from this shop. They will take forever working on your bike, will not approve any work, expects you to pay for all work done even when not approved or they will donate your bike.

These guys are as good as good gets! Found something online on Saturday, sent them a message, they immediately replied. Ordered the bike, it was delivered today, Monday - several states away. Couldnt find better service if I tried.

I have to give the folks of Downshift a solid 5 stars pretty easily. They were easy to work with and a pleasure from the start. I would recommend these folks to anyone in the Roanoke Valley...for sales or service. Kelsey made it happen and made sure the job was done. Awesome spot

Best bike shop in Roanoke! Highly recommend! Awesome bike rentals at amazing prices too! Got the chance to rent and ride their full suspension electric Norco Sight VLT mountain bike and it crushed it both up and down Carvins Cove, went up and over the mountain 3 times 😂 when I’d normally be tapped out after one time. If you haven’t rode one yet you’re missing out and should rent one from Downshift!

Sugar free coffee options are great. Could be a little cheaper with the same quality however, like most places downtown, their rent is probably unreasonable so their prices cant be very low. 😞

These people were awesome! It’s a very hole in the wall-ish place but they have a nice roof patio to sit in, and we had our dog with us. The food was really good home cooked style food. This is an amazing bike shop/ bar/coffee shop. If you’re in Roanoke this is a must for anyone who likes nice local shops.Keep it up guys!!!

Great service - Took in 2 old bikes in disrepair and tan 5 days later Im back on the trail - very reasonable and high quality work.

I cannot speak to the bike shop side of this shop but I can speak to the beer and service...it is GREAT! Also, check out rooftop yoga during the summer months! They pull in great yoga instructors from around the area. Its such a calming experience doing yoga outside in the sunshine and fresh air!

Best bike shop around, hands down. In the past, I’ve dreaded going to bike shops. The culture can be pretentious and judgmental if you’re not an expert but Downshift completely revolutionizes the bike shop culture. For starters, the shop is just cool. It’s an inviting, open space with lots of places to sit and sip on delectable coffee (highly recommend the peanut butter coffee), or a great beer or have some delicious food while the bike mechanics work their magic. Everyone that works there is so nice that you want to stay and hang out. They also have a cute rooftop patio where you can bring your beer/coffee/food and enjoy the surrounding views. Downshift also offers group rides each week and really want people to learn about biking! They make it so friendly and inviting! Can’t get enough of this place.

This place is awesome! Amazing staff, coffee, and atmosphere. Havent tried the food but Ive seen quite a few people in here having food.If theres something bike related theyve also got you covered with that. The store front is right downtown but not smack dab in the middle of downtown so its low-key chill. The rooftop area is just an added bonus.

I recently purchased the beautiful Linus Roadster 3 speed. I am new to the road scene and 3 gears (internal hub) has proven perfect for Roanoke. We live up a hill and this little bike has been able to handle it as well as parts of NW, OSW, and SW. The care and help I received from the staff in finding the perfect dream bicycle is unmatched. The bike was affordable and I was able to customize it with an amazing front rack. I highly recommend downshift for not only brews and coffee but for their wonderful bicycle selection and accessories as well.

The coffee and food bowls were really great. Steve is an outstanding bike mechanic. He did a complete refurbish on my 1972 Gitane...it looks and rides like new, but I did have him convert it to a bike that was good for an older guy (me) with a bad back! Outstanding! I really like the cargo bikes that they have as well. Very tempting!!

Had a few minutes to kill—stopped by for a looksee. Cool spot—COLD beer (Huzzah! Even some breweries haven’t solved the ‘cold’ thing...) and fun vibe. Like MacArthur, I shall return for a more comprehensive experience.

The bowl was absolutely delicious! The peanut butter coffee is now my favorite drink 😁 Im not a bike person, but this stop could make me reconsider... There were a lot of unique items that intrigued my interest. The employees were top notch and even greeted customers with a great smile and conversation! I will definitely be back!

Amazing coffee, kombucha, and beer. The peanut butter coffee will knock your socks off. They have lots of events every month including rooftop yoga and bike rides. Every person that works there is friendly, eager to help, and very knowledgeable on bikes and everything they have for sale. Such good vibes in that place. Definitely a favorite place in Roanoke.

Went in today to have someone look at a problem with my bike and my mind was blown! The bike expert ( I believe his name was Steve, please forgive me if that’s wrong) was able to fit me in to look at my bike today. I fully intended in dropping it off and going back to work, but before I could finish giving my contact information to the counter guy the bike expert said it was fixed and ready to go. After paying a very reasonable bill for repairs the bike is riding better than ever!!!! Friendly staff and environment all around great place to visit!

I ordered an ice water and received 2 pieces of ice. Then I asked if I could have more ice and was told it would be 10 minutes. I was willing to wait and pay for the ice water but the lady running the counter seemed less than enthused about making more ice. The other two members of my party received ice with their specialty drinks...

3-fer!Bikes, Beers & Bcoffee (had to go B)Unpretentious staff, great bikes (Linus) at very reasonable bike prices ($500 average).The mid-drive electric bike add on is a great idea for biking commuters.The place needs a dog, maybe a fat black lab whose tail whip wags you as you pat him.

Steve kept the place open late for us. Great food bowls, I mean, youd spend twice as much for food this healthy, delicious at most places. There was quite a selection of beers on tap. Bikes here are of the high-quality commuter type, but considering the quality, prices are quite reasonable.

Very cool bike shop that doubles as a craft beer and coffee spot. Great to see people investing in adding some good spots in downtown. The owners are very nice as well!

Its a cool place, but it doesnt open till 8am and thats late for a coffee shop. I would stop everyday if they opened at even 7am.

Every now and again Im pleasantly surprised when I can be wrong! Im very rarely wrong but in this case Im happy I was. I was ignorant to the bike culture and what the standard was for fix time so when I saw myself waiting around a long while I was very dissapointed. Well heres where I became educated in the culture. Not only was downshift faster then the other shops they were faaar more courteous and acomidating.Coffee is good and the Beer is better! Im gonna stop riding bike soon cause Im getting a car but youll still find me there...that should tell you something! Great Place to Be!!
