This place is absolutely Amazing.. The staff is wonderful cannot say enough about how friendly and awesome they are with kids. They also will teach your children how to care for the pets they are about to adopt. And will try to ansewer any questions that you have.I would definitely recommend them 100%

Went to get some food for my bearded dragon. They have a large selection in regards to food for him as well as other exotic animals. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They have birds out that talk to you come in, and sometimes you can get the snakes out and handle them. Plenty of choices for fish both salt and fresh. Awesome store with great people!

I went out looking for tree frogs and lizards I did find two red eyed tree frogs but not the right type of lizard but I will check back.

The previous location, I had nothing but positive experiences. We bought our first ferret from them after several visits and research. The associate was so nice and helpful, picking out starter products and even helping me get everything to my car. Naturally once we decided to grow our fur family, there was no debate on where to go. At the new location the staff seemed like they were just waiting on school to let out. When whom Ive thought to be a manager of some sorts (at the previous and current location), approached me I mentioned we had got our first ferret from them which he smirked and replied with we sell a lot of ferrets. Our first one came with papers and a letter from Marshall Ferret, this one nothing. The worst part of it all, this ferret, I now say, we saved, had a food bowl inside his cage at the store that was way beyond his reach, and without water. When we got him home it was very evident that he was malnourished and desperate for attention. The only reason I would ever get another pet from this store would be to save it. Its obvious they take good care of their permanent residents, but the care for the sell so many creatures has clearly more than slipped.Update: since adopting our 2nd ferret which was sold to us as a male is actually a female.

I really wouldn’t give them a star. A few months ago I bought two Quaker parrots. They were $800 each and at fist I only wanted one but was told I could not buy just one that I had to buy both because they were a “mated pair” . So in all I bought birds, cage, food, and toys. I spent over $2000. Well now I’m down to one bird because they WERE NOT a mated pair and one killed the other. I called the store and was told, “Well we thought they was a mated pair.” No offer to fix it or refund me at all. Just an I’m sorry that’s what we thought. I trusted them and spent a lot of money there. I’m a nurse and work hard for my money and risk my life for it. Never again!!!! I was lied to!!!! It’s very upsetting. I lost a bird I loved and am out of the money as well.......

Got a leopard gecko yesterday! He was $100 but hes so pretty and cute! The store was great too birds, lizards, snakes, spider, fish (both fresh and salt, you name it they had it!! Even tegus and drilled dragons!! Me and my mom loved it! Best reptile shop Ive been to!Update: his name is taco and hes almost 4months old now hes perfectly healthy I love him so much and hes doing great!

The selection is the best in the area and the staff is helpful but they just dont keep their fish healthy. Its not uncommon to go in and see a fish completely covered in ich. I realize its probably a cost thing, where its cheaper to just lose some fish to illness than it is to medicate them, but it makes any purchase suspect. If you went to a puppy store and some of the dogs were always riddled with fleas, you probably wouldnt want to buy a dog from them. Same thing with these fish.

I love this place! Everyone that works there is so friendly and they seem to genuinely care about the animals and helping you get the correct items for your animals.

Love this place, I had trouble with a bucket of salt a few months back, and the brand of salt I bought the company wouldnt help me, however Exotic and Aquatics replaced the bucket with a better brand. That bucket of salt has really helped me.

Exotics & Aquatics has a great selection of fresh water and salt water aquatic fish and invertebrates. If your looking for neocaridina or caridina shrimps youll be pleased with the variety and health of their shrimps. They also have a great selection of reptiles, birds, amphibians and invertebrates! Friendly staff and clean store!

I bought my Red Tegu Drax from here! Drax is very healthy and Exotics & Aquatics helped me tremendously with everything my boy needed. They are expensive but well WORTH IT!! I highly recommend Hunter, Skyler or Nicole if you need any help! They are very smart and always know exactly what to do! Love this store!! Go visit them!

Had quite a few nice animals, but there was two young guys that worked there that were joking around that one of the mice that was for sale was annoying them so they should feed it to something so they decided to yank it by the tail and swing it around before feeding it to a tegu. Definitely not a how you handle animals of any kind regardless of how annoying they are. Its a shame because i loved this store the last time i was in there.Update. I was contacted and they made an effort to change the situation.

I am not trying to take anything away from this shop at all however everything felt forced into your face there. No warning signs nothing, I know its a pet shop but it stinks in there and its dirty.

The aquariums and selection of fish are really impressive. I bought beautiful fancy tailed guppies- they had a wonderful selection. The tanks are beautiful and the fish look so healthy. I will be shopping there for all my aquarium needs.

Very cool place to go. Even if just to look around. Exotics and Aquatics have a very large selection of exotic fish, birds, snakes and tarantulas. If your not looking for something exotic they also have bunnies, gerbils, hamsters, ferrets, and mice amongst other things. Great place to visit

Great selection especially for saltwater aquariums

Went by on Wednesday to pick out a tortoise and found a great one. The guys working were very helpful. When I asked about holding till Christmas Eve they said if I came back Sunday they would be able to do that. I told them I would be back and I wanted that tortoise. They said they would remember that I wanted it and would not sell it. They didn’t take my name or number. I came back Sunday morning as I said I would and the sold the tortoise Saturday night. Now maybe it’s partly my fault. I should have called them back and left my number. However, I would have paid for the tortoise that day but they told me to come back Sunday. They didn’t keep their side of the deal. Now I have search around and find another one. They didn’t even offer to help find me another one or any other solutions. So disappointed. Not happy at all. Won’t go back if I can help it.Update: After your response it’s clear you don’t understand. I would have paid that Wednesday. Done whatever I needed to do to secure that tortoise. I was told to wait and come back on Sunday for that special. When I did as I was told. The tortoise was gone. I gave one star just for the staff. They are super nice. However being told to wait and it being gone when I got there isn’t cool. Your word is your bond and no one appreciates being mislead or lied to. I found a great place instead and now know where to get my supplies from now on.

Reptiles are overpriced and don’t appear to be well taken care of. I’ve been there many times and it only happened once but on that trip most of the snakes and beardies had no water. I pointed it out and they fixed right away but I shouldn’t have had to discover that, it takes a while for a water bowl to completely dry up. They do have decent prices on accessories though. I recommend stopping in if you haven’t been there

Reasonable prices & very exotic pretty fish

Tried buying some Saltwater fish and supplies this past Sunday and waited for 10 minutes without being acknowledged by staff. The staff were walking through the section with birds but did not greet or ask if I was being helped.

I go here to get a rat for my snake all the time. They havent had medium frozen rats for a bit, but thats not an issue. Most of the animals look pretty decent, and generally healthy. Some of them are a bit pricy though, but I could be wrong. I would give this store a 4, or a 5 star review if it wasnt for the experience with a couple of the workers at the old location. One was being quite rude, another was just standing nearby having no reaction, and the other was laughing. Very dissapoimted because of those 2 workers. I complained to a couple of people I knew I could trust that worked there hoping they would talk to management and stop him from doing that. I went in a week later and the rude comments came in from the same worker with Noone else near. I complained again. Nothing happened. We got the issue resolved in a few weeks, but it took way too long. This worker is still there at the new location, and I try to avoid him. I still go there to get feeder frozen rats though.Now I read about someone complaining about the fish having mold in their tanks. I think what they saw was moss, wich can be good for certain breeds of fish.

They care about their animals. They took the time to be sure I was prepared. The aquariums looked very good and their fish were in very good health. If you are a fish-hobbyist, this is the place for you. I spent a lot of time looking at all the fish. I didn’t have time to carefully look over the reptiles.Most of the staff doesn’t wear face-coverings and about 1/2 the customers don’t either. If that’s going to bother you, stay away until this pandemic is over.

Laid out well with interesting animals and birds. Staff seem knowledgeable and are friendly.

All the animals are kept in small, unclean, and underestimating cages. I saw several cages containing mold and/or spiderwebs. On several occasions there have been dead animals in the cages. The feeder rats and mice are kept completely inhumanely. Their cages are damp, unlit, and unventilated. Many of the rodents were unable to reach their water, had little food, and several had obvious visible wounds. All the cages are unlocked and easily opened by anyone, including dangerous animals. The employees are also very dismissive and none of them wear masks or follow any safety guidelines. Baseline is their animals live in filth with no enrichment or stimulation and the employees see you only as an inconvenience.

Recently bought a Corn Snake. Minutes after being there we were Welcomed by a Employee named( Josh ). He was Extremely Helpful, Knew so much, gave us the whole run down about the do’s and don’t. This was our First time at this place, but everyone says such great things! I know why, Customer Service is OUTSTANDING. Definitely will be back.

Although store had okay selection, many of their fish were dead, even growing mold and rotted. The living fish had obvious ick, dropsy or parasites. Guinea pigs had fleas. Some of the birds beaks were broken, many seemed stressed. Roughly half of the customers were maskless, and same with much of the staff. Id not buy anything living from this place, only supplies, and I advise you not to.

To all whom want to down this store you are simply wrong. I have bought a lion head and lop earred rabbit from this family a Guinea pig and all of my fish, I can tell you all my fish are so much healthier than any other pet store each animal is taken care of and every critter I have gotten is so loving and sweet. They have a great deal of fish an other animals so just because u see something lacking when are in the store doesnt mean thats the way it is daily, the people have a lot to tend to. So before complaining visit more than once. These people care for every animal and every customer. We took a bunny back once, my three year old threw a fit so they let me come right back down an pick the rabbit back up, these people care, and do the best to help anyone out. When u walk into petsmart none of there critters have grain just hay, at least they give each animal what they need, not the bear minimum!!. Thank you guys for always being awesome😊 and making life even more memorable and joyful!!

I love this place especially the three big birds up front we had the funniest experience w them on our last time there my husband was close to the white on an when the bird moved closer he back up an siad imscared of big birds bad all the sudden all three birds began laughing an so was I 😂😂😂 we couldnt stop laughing it was to cute Im still 😂😂😂

We went in there to buy fish, they did not want to sell fish to us. They kept telling us we needed so many other chemicals. We have two successful fish tanks and have done the same process with each. Will never go back there again.Responding to response: as we told the guy in the store we had added everything that was needed. He kept saying out water was off when he never tested it. And said that petco and petsmart does not know what they are doing. As a fish owner my tanks are a lot cleaner then yours. So for an employee to say that we needed extra stuff was a total lie. Our tank had been cycled and had already been set up and had the appropriate chemicals as we told the guy in the store. It makes a lot of sense looking at the other reviews of this store. Also the fish prices are way over priced! Compared to other stores and online. Ohh also, we went to another store and found the fish we were going to get and guess what, they are thriving! So putting down other businesses and the customers of the store by implying we have no idea what we are doing is disgraceful!

Went in to grab some drift wood and decided to look at the other animals while there. I absolutely cannot recommend buying any live stock here as a good amount of the fish had bent spines/sunken stomachs as well as the chinchilla having no toys nor dust bath. The cage is entirely too small and the chinchilla is unresponsive to anything going around it. The animals are kept in cramped and kind of dingey spaces. The dry goods here are awesome but for a business that specializes in exotics and aquatics theyve spread themselves too thin to the point that the animals appear to be neglected. Maybe Im wrong, but thats just my opinion of the business overall. There are other stores in the area that can help your needs just as efficiently without sacrificing quality of care to animals

Disappointed more than once. Two separate occasions buying fish and one occasion buying Guineas. 1st fish purchase died in a few days. 2nd fish purchase brought ick into our tank. The tank beside the one we bought fish from had ick. Im not sure hands are getting washed or water isnt getting shared between the tanks. Same with the guineas. A few had eye infections. We bought the two that we were told did not that were in a separate tank. While handling them in the store I commented on his/her holding its eye mostly closed. We were told it was fine. Less than 24 hrs after being home, the guineas eye was shut with crusties and goop. I call the store. They did not offer any suggestions, condolences or apologies other than a point blank simple, take it to a vet.Also one of the bunnies there had huge dried balls of poop stuck in its fur with no signs of attempting to be addressed. Very disappointed. Unfortunately Ive had much better luck with the box stores.

Came here to pick up Orijen dog food but they only have the one made in the Kentucky plant so we had to order tundra the one made in the Canadian plant should be in in 2 weeks.I just loved all the big parrots there they were all very friendly and just so cute and funny.Wonderful selection of both saltwater and freshwater fish and reptiles.

Great local pet store with a wide variety of just about everything. I mainly go in for the well-priced frozen mice/rats and feeder insects but then I usually get distracted by everything else once I get through the door. The reptiles can be a bit overpriced at times but they are healthy and well taken care of. The fish section is amazing, and the natural tank decoration supplies might be my favorite part right now since they have added even more of a selection with the move. The larger selection of terrariums is also a good result of the move, and I hope they continue to add more reptile supplies as they get settled in. I dont spend as much time in the bird and small mammal sections but the animals there always look healthy and well taken care of as well. My favorite pet store in Roanoke!
