Paul and his guys at FW Motorsports are top notch. I’ve brought my Subaru here for a 90k service, oil changes, had a hitch installed, and for diagnosing issues. I’ve always been happy with the speed, quality and price here. Not to mention, they referred me to a dealer about a front suspension issue because they thought it might be covered by my warranty, and it was! They could have easily charged me for the work but they’re honest guys. Highly recommend taking your vehicles here.
I have been taking my Subarus to Paul for at least 20 years now. I would not take my car anywhere else. He is honest, reliable and an excellent car mechanic. I am not a person that likes to take their car to the dealer so I was happy to find a good independent Subaru mechanic. As a woman who does not know too much about cars it is important to have a mechanic that I can trust who is looking out for my interest and not just looking to make the most money possible.
This was my first time with FW Motorsports and I had nothing but the best service and overall experience. I came in with an 2010 Outback I just purchased that was having issues right off the bat. I took it to my original mechanic and they couldnt really lock down the issue and was recommended to Paul at FWM from a coworker. He identified the issue right away and put in the specific quality parts needed to get my Subaru running like a champ! I will be taking my Subaru only to him from now on. FW Motorsports = 5/5 and Sparco =5/5
Paul (the owner) very knowledgeable. Also a quick turn around once the parts came in. I would highly recommend this establishment for subaru owners.
Paul always provides the highest quality service. He is a true Subaru master mechanic and will do things correctly. If you value maintaining your investment (vehicle), I’d recommend taking it to Paul at FW Motorsports.
Provided excellent service on both of my Subarus.
Theres not really much to say that hasnt already been said: Paul knows what he is doing and runs a great shop. Fast and friendly service and no BS. Hes worked on my WRX and my wifes Outback. Always does a good job and has fair pricing.
Outback 2005 ( Various Repairs) :Paul always does a great job getting to the root cause of an issue, and once he gets to root cause he will provide you with options and costs for each option. Paul is one of the reasons I will keep buying used Subarus. Thanks Paul!
Paul at FW Motorsport is an intelligent and knowledgeable individual that enjoys his work, and takes the time to understand the problem or issue of your vehicle. He goes above and beyond the norm to make sure that your vehicle is serviced properly, and they use quality products. They provided me with excellent service.
Paul is AMAZING! Ive been taking my WR-X to him for the last 6 years. Hes always done a fabulous job, his pricing is VERY fair - he never up-sells, only does what is necessary unless YOU want to have him do extra...and the turn-around time for repairs/service have always been quick!!! I would highly recommend FW Motorsports to any and ALL Subaru owners...this is the shop that does it all! As long as I have a Subaru THIS is the place I will return to for all my cars needs! Thx Paul! 🙂👍👍👍
I called in to get some information on an exhaust for my car. Paul answered the call and I have had the best experience since that call. These days when you for some information if often feels like the person on the other side wants to get off the phone. Paul took his time and answered all my questions without rushing me off the phone. I went down to the shop and ordered the exhaust I wanted to get and its already installed all with in 24hr of me calling. I left feeling like Ive just made a new friend. This is a family, veteran owned business and now it my go to mechanic shop. I would recommend them to any one.
Paul knows his subarus and explains everything that hes going to do to your car so you can understand it all. I had timing belt and head gasket work done and it was done quickly and professionally. Highly recommend!
Car maintenance isnt fun, but this place made the whole process very pleasant. It was always really nice to talk to the owner -- Everything he explained made sense, and his dog was really cute too.
I had a great, professional experience here. Paul is honest & very fair. Helped me find my cheapest route to fix my transmission. On time with completion of the job. I would most definitely recommend FW Motorsports for vehicle service & repair.
Paul is awesome. Provides no-nonsense assessment of your vehicle. There are many places that know their way around a Subaru, but if trust and integrity is important to you as well as Subaru expertise...go to FW Motorsports.
Top marks! Pauls Subaru service has never disappointed, but this time he outdid himself, IMHO.I had not one, but two mystifying, frustrating issues defying smog test for my 2007 Outback Sport. Paul correctly diagnosed a couple of manufacturer-defective gas tank valves for the engine check light long-baffling my local dealer (suggested gas cap replacement was on third try). Next, Paul patiently tried several alternatives -- including test drive to smog station for advice -- before we had to bite bullet with catalytic converter replacement (FW parts and labor costs are always very reasonable; quality service without high dealer prices). 2020 smog test passed with flying colors. I particularly appreciate how Paul always takes time to describe all the mechanics involved -- this last round was quite the education 🙂.
Loose fuse fixed!!! solved in one day not stalling any more. Thank you!!
I have a 2012 Forester, an 03 Forster and an 05 Outback Sport. Been taking my cars to FW Since Paul was on Plumber Way. I know a few have complained about the cost, but to me, never needing to have the same job done twice to me is more of a savings. FW knows Subaru very well, they know whats good for a car and not good. My opinion, Paul and FW Motorsport are great to work with. Never had a complaint or a reason to bring a car back because something was not done correctly.-Andrew
FW Motorsports - Paul and Ryan - are knowledgeable, professional, honest and trustworthy. I am a single, older woman and I trust them to do only what my 10 year old Subaru needs done, not take advantage of me and make sure that I am driving a safe car for a fair price. I recommend them very, very highly.
Had my first service on my car at FW Motorsports yesterday and waspleased with their knowledge and after talking to the owner Paul I feel their integrity will keep me coming back. Glad you guys were referred to me.Barbara J
Paul and his crew are both proficient and honest. Paul has done a lot of work on our 2006 Outback over the years, but has sent me back to the dealer when an extended warranty might be involved - saved me $1500. When I do business there, I feel like I am in the hands of professional friends.
Always a good experience at FW. Quality work for a good price. Paul, the owner, knows what hes talking about and will give straight up advice. Some may not like his personality due to him being quite honest and upfront but he tells it like it is. Good shop for both basic service/maintenance and performance/aftermarket.
If you own a Subaru and youre having problems with it do not hesitate to take it to FW. Its my go-to place for my Subaru Legacy GT wagon. Very professional and I like to give a heads-up to Ryan for all the knowledge he spit at me. Great dude great work dont think twice to take your Subie there to get the job done right.
Paul is a very knowledgable technician who answered my questions quickly with ease and got my vehicle in and out of the shop without a hassle. The employees are very friendly as well with a great shop atmosphere, no problems since the repair. Ive recommend FW to all my friends looking for a reliable shop that knows their stuff, nothing but great driving since.
Great Subaru specialty shop!
A great place to have your car repaired or oil changed. I trust these people to be honest and do a good job.
Trailered my car 4 hours one way to bring it to Paul in pieces, wish I would have known about them before it was taken apart, it has since been 105,000 miles on rebuilt motor and still runs Tip-Top. Couldnt speak more highly about this business and the experience I had.
Wouldnt take my vehicle anywhere else. HIGHLY recommended!
Cant rave more about this shop. Still get my Toyotas oil change there even after I sold my Subaru. One of the most honest, no BS shops around. Been a customer for almost 10 years (since the db tuned days).
Paul and Brandon are awesome mechanics. I drive 3 hours to fw to have all my work done. Thanks Paul
Paul is a great guy and really loves his craft - I wouldn’t hesitate to have him work on my Subie any day.
They are hands down the best local shop for all of your subaru needs! It doesnt matter if youre bone stock or have a collection of 5 various makes and models rolled into one chassis. They know it all
I like these guys, I have been a semi-frequent customer for the past 7 years with my Subaru. Paul is a straight shooter who tells the truth. He doesnt cut corners, and uses mostly factory parts (unless the factory part had issues). Their new facility is much larger than the old one with plenty of parking. I have sent several people here all who have been extremely satisfied. I even go there to buy maintenance parts such as brakes rather than your local auto parts store. They are beyond veteran friendly which is very commendable.
Great shop that does great work. Would recommend to anyone.
I have no idea how this shop has 4 to 5 stars on their reviews. Paul, the owner, has rebuilt my motor going on three times now. Once for the prior owner. It seems now that he must build my motor for free (warranty) he has no interest in receiving my calls or returning them. Ive owned my Impreza for a year and a half now and he has had my car on his lot more than it has been parked in my garage, the first build took 5 months and this build has no timeline to it. seeing as he WILL NOT answer my calls or talk to me what so ever. A month ago he said that he has the motor ready to go and that it will only take a week to put it in and get tuned. I havent heard from him since. I have already filed a complaint with the BAR and am getting ready to hire a lawyer and bring him to court. I EVEN HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE BECAUSE HE HAS HAD MY STi FOR SO LONG. please do not use this shop unless you just want something simple done.
Paul has worked on both of my 2010 Legacys. My first experience, I brought my Legacy GT in for the 60K service. Paul gave me a break down of what exactly was to be performed. After shopping around a few shops including the dealer for quotes I wasnt satisfied. Based on my phone conversation with Paul and his knowledge of Subaru, I decided to go with FW. I am so glad I made that decision. The Turn around time for the 60K service was quick. I remember when I went to pick it up and Paul mentioning to me that the clutch felt very stiff. When I bought my 2010 Legacy GT used from SF BMW it had 42K miles and a very stiff clutch. I didnt question it, and it didnt really bother me. I sat in a late model WRX and I pressed the clutch. I was amazed at how the action was smooth and not creaky. I asked if it needs to be replaced, he said it didnt. He just wanted me to see what the clutch was supposed to feel like. The 2nd time about 20K later, I smoked my clutch during some spirited driving. I kept driving around with it and held out long enough before it was dangerous to drive. I went back to Paul to get it replaced. Very quick turn around for this job. I had the car back again within a day or two. The replacement clutch was a lot easier to engage. I have had several thousands of miles with out a problem.Third experience was a repair which is one of the worst to think about. I had a blown head gasket. If you are a Subaru owner you need to be aware that this a problem. There have been other 5th Generation Legacy GT owners with the same problem. So I knew it wasnt just mine. It was a possible defect in the HG and suspected the head studs stretching. I called Paul and explained what the car was doing. Coolant blowing out of the overflow bottle, a gurgling sound behind the dashboard. Higher than normal temps under load. After describing all that he said was confident it was the head gasket and said to bring it to him. I thought about it over the weekend, called back on a Monday to schedule the service. I spoke to Ryan and asked for a quote. He had one back to me within the hour. After digesting the cost and calling the dealer for a similar quote, I was not surprised when FWs quote was lower. I did request to use ARP head studs instead of OEM. The job took a little bit longer due to locating the parts for a rare Turbo Subaru (the 5th Gen was the last of the turbo Legacys.) Since the HG was replaced the car is running much smoother and cooler. I am also getting better gas mileage than before. Our most recent experience was with my sons 2010 2.5i Legacy. It was way overdue for a 60K service and close to needing a timing belt replacement. I called FW and spoke to Ryan. He prepared a quote and gave a breakdown of the work needed. We dropped the car off on a Sunday night and we had it back on a Tuesday.I have full confidence in Paul and all his techs. I have never had a bad experience or felt cheated. Paul is a stand up guy and proud owner. I live about 45 min to an hour away without traffic will continue to be a customer.
UPDATE/RESPONSE (12-19-17): Paul, I initially came to you because my car broke down, you told me I needed an engine rebuild. You quoted me $5500. I said I’d think about it. I came back and said ok and your price went up to $6600 and you said that would cover ANY unforeseen expenses. I agreed cuz I wanted my car repaired the right way. After the engine rebuild, the price jump all the way up $7000 out the door and not even 2 DAYS after getting my car back, my engine started knocking again. 2 DAYS! After that, I kept coming back to you and you kept telling me this and that needed to get fixed and that would solve the problem but it didn’t. You kept beating around the bush having me pay you more and more for repairs it didn’t need instead of actually thoroughly inspecting my car and repairing it the right way from the beginning and for what I paid you for. I DIDNT decline anything. I grew distrusting of you because you kept having pay for and scamming me for something I already paid $7000 for you to fix from our initial talk. This is not how u do professional business and I was very patient with you. And I need a car to get to work so not having a car affects me greatly. You initially said 1 month turnaround but I didn’t get my car back after 2 months and only because I kept calling you every week. you kept saying it’ll be done next week, no, next week, no next week. It got to be ridiculous.BAR had me take it to 3 different shops to get it diagnosed and they all said pretty much the same thing, the shop that did the work should have seen this and told me because they had the engine apart, they should have known this beforehand. Also, when the shops did an inspection, they found out that you guys left one BOLT out from the engine. They even showed me where took pics of it. How do you explain that? What kind of work is this for $7000? This again adds to more distrust.I just wanted my car fixed the right way but all I got was more distrust for mechanics! Thanks for that. Why would I want to keep bringing my car back to you when in the back of my head I might be charged for something I don’t need.——I took my 2005 Subaru STi in about a couple of years ago for a repair which I ended up having my engine rebuilt. After having your car rebuilt for $7,000 youd think it would work great for at least a few years right? They did such a poor job on the rebuild that after two weeks of getting it back, my engine still had problems and Im still dealing with it 2 years later. They dont offer warranty which already tells you a lot about this place. They kept BSing me for months and telling me its this and that but they never fixed the problem. What kind of mechanic are you when you cant even diagnose the problem properly. They will take advantage of you here, dont sign anything from these guys. I had to complain to the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) because they kept BSing me and I have a feeling many people have do so before me. I dont know how this place has such a high rating. I suspect they are paid reviews. This has been the single worst mechanic experience Ive ever had in my life. I want everyone to know that they ARE A SCAM ARTIST. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. Save yourself the headache, MONEY, and time and please go somewhere else. These guys need to be thoroughly investigated on their practices.Read all the 1-3 star reviews. They speak more volume then anything. I have a more thorough account/review of what happen on yelp if you are interested. I will do as much as I can to inform the public how horrible this place is and share it with everyone. IT IS BY FAR THE WORST AUTO SHOP IN SACRAMENTO.
I set out to buy an AccessPort from Cobb and they didnt stock it which isnt a complaint considering the market for GTI APs I can only imagine would be slim. However, I was offered 1 day shipping so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. The whole time I had an interaction with the owner (I do not remember his name) he seemed uninterested and was slightly cocky. After I paid I had a couple of questions about the product, but while I was asking my question his cell phone began to ring and he cut me off and said he needed to take the call. Id consider using them for my service in the future, but I think Ill go elsewhere.
Walked into this place looking for Snail Performance (same address) to have some tuning done on my car the girl upfront was a total Bit** with a shi**y additud to the point when she was done talking I turned around and walked out. I will take my business elsewhere ✌️
Overall great business. Service is great and I will keep going back!
Thank you for your hard work and getting my WRX back to me so quickly! Great work Guys! That Cobb TBE Sounds Awesome! When are the Subby Meets again? Will recommend to other Subby owners!FiyaLion!
Excellent work and service.
Awesome service always.
Paul is a solid owner operator. Anything you need done he gets done.
Youre not going to find a better Subaru shop in Northern California.
