Great art supply store. Lots of paints and brushes. Supplies for many media. Sketch pads. Small gift area. I have not used their framing services, but it looks like they have a good selection. Very nice and knowledgeable staff.
I really like this store. Good assortment of serious art supplies and other fun things like coloring books and puzzles
This place has everything. EVERYTHING!I shop University Art as a mixed-media collage artist. I use many different products and all of the very best are on the shelves in this store.UA has canvas, gel medium, gesso, Mod Podge, encaustics, charcoal, acrylic and oil paints, watercolors, pens and pencils, handmade papers, erasers, paintbrushes, palette knives, spray paint, stickers... Anything I could ever possibly want to stick down with glue!I was impressed by the selection of gifts and art products for children. Not the usual junk, but thoughtful, immersive, educational toys and projects! High quality coloring books for multiple age groups. I hope UA will consider selling Legos. Art and architecture toys are very hot right now!The store is very clean and ADA accessible. I have no trouble navigating the store with a cane. Aisles are wide and you wont find boxes of freight on the floor like those big-box craft stores. The staff here are always helpful, friendly and interested in your art! A real breath of fresh air. I love UA! 💕
Great friendly people always very helpful full, for anything art, I had questions they had the answers, just ask, been going there over 30 years, I do alot of different projects, so I need a variety of different things, canvas oils, to modern mold and bake, its all there.
Easy parking must wear mask. Very helpful staff
The manager in the framing department was very friendly, beyond knowledgeable, and super helpful. Ill definitely be getting more pieces framed at University Art.
No matter what price the materials for art is, you pay & get what you pay. Meaning you will get excellent quality art materials for every cent you put in.So remember cheapest doesnt mean good quality. The owner or employees are very very down to earth loving people. Ask they will do their best to accommodate your needs. No matter what price it is here, its priceless meeting all workers at this place.
Very comparable prices to big box stores and staff is helpful without being overbearing. Took down one star because they dont seem to have a schedule for restocking certain things. Idk, it just always feels like theyre out of something. Love the store overall and will be getting a membership soon!
Although I heard the older women in her late 40s say I was going to steal something after I had already been going here for years and never even thought of stealing, The kindness and knowledge of the younger punky bruster style plus the will to prove this older woman wrong made me give a 5 star because every time I find myself here due to loss of metirial she is always happy to help and not at all judgemental in any way. Also the adorable little gray hair woman is too perfect for words. So I guess most of the female employees are great and make you feel like family.I havent had a man ring me up yet but I imagine they are the same because it takes a whole team of like minded individuals to create such a comfortable atmosphere.
The staff is helpful and knowledgeable when I have questions. I find what Im looking for in art supplies and cool cards🎨😊
Went in looking for supplies as a gift, they were really helpful when I didnt know what I was looking for.
Though its part of a chain, the UAC on J Street has always felt and acted like a neighborhood shop. The variety of products is unique in Sacramento. I once bought a box of Wayne Thibaud note cards, a sheet of blotter paper, and half a dozen open-stock Blackwing pencils there in one shopping trip. I couldnt have done that anywhere else within a 90 mile radius. Keep up the good work.
My daughter loves the stickers here, also for art projects they basically have you covered! Screen printing, easels, airbrush, water colors, you name it.
Such a great place and so many great things that you can buy!
Knowledgeable, friendly staff. This store has a lot to offer from art supplies for children thru adults. Also some wonderful gifts and a fabulous selection of frames to choose from.
Very cool place to buy art supplies. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Instead of trying to upsell me they offered a more affordable kit for what I was needing. Will return again.
Inventory a little slim because of the pandemic but I almost always find what Im looking for. Can wait til life I back to normalish so they can have regular sock of supplies again.
Credit or debit only now. Still well stocked and friendly. Was able to get all my supplies in no time.
My wife is an artist, its one of the best places to get supplies in Sacramento.
This place is great, staff are knowledgeable and friendly. They enforce mask, sanitizer, and social distancing and I appreciate that. Great small business!
Ive been coming here for years, but after my experience today I wont be returning. I was ready to check out, just buying a few materials, and they have a discount for members. The older woman who checked me ou,t rang everything up right away, then gave me the total and I said to her I had a member discount, Im an art student. She looked annoyed and didnt respond. So I went to give her my name, and she interrupted and said she needs a last name. I gave her my last name and she had an issue with it. I am Indigenous so I understand my last name isnt common. I repeated myself and she kept shaking her head and said no. Okay so I spell it for her trying to make it easier. She is getting more and more frustrated and begins questioning whether its my last name or not because last names are one word. I explained its one last name 3 words, again I understand the confusion, I am trying to be polite, but she felt the need to be condescending and again belittle me, telling me its not a last name. It felt like she kept ignoring what I was saying, finally she found it and said that I never told her it had spaces. I dont know why I stayed and tried so hard. I dont know why I had to explain myself so many different times. Worst customer service I have ever experienced.
University art is locally owned and operated. Their staff is extremely helpful and can always order whatever you need if they happen to not carry it. Always a pleasure to shop there
Fun place. They have all the stuff. I do a huge annual project every January & get all my supplies here.
If you are invested in a community of artists than how could you afford to shop anywhere other than a local art shop. If you agree than youve found the best spot in Sacramento - youll find friendly, knowledgeable people ready to help you create what you see in your minds eye!
Really knowledgeable and helpful staff. Very fun place to explore for artistic/creative people!
Love this place. Will. be back.
Great art store with professional grade supplies.
Went in during COVID, they were taking very reasonable precautions. Everyone has to use hand sanitizer and and wearing a mask properly to come in the store, and I felt like the people working there kept an eye on how many people were in there at the same time. Now on to the art supplies! They had a very good selection of the things I was looking for (watercolors, colored pencils, and notecards) at a variety of price points and in a bunch of styles. Im looking forward to trying them out!
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff! Great sale, too!
Helpful staff and lots of safety measures in place - you can feel quite comfortable shopping here during the pandemic
Love this place and the employees are so friendly and helpful! Highly recommend for all art supplies and assistance with whatever youre creative about.
Excellent art store. Better selection and wider range of materials than all others. Kinda like a candy store for artists. Very knowledgeable. Fair prices. Nicely kept. Shop local.
Great atmosphere and the staff is friendly.
Well stocked with a variety of art supplies.
My daughter and I love this store. They have all the good high end art supplies and the staff is always super pleasant. Shout out to Matt who works here. He always knows what materials we need when we have questions. Super Rad guy!!
Good selection. One employee wasnt very friendly
The staff is keeping everything sanitized & safe at the store and they are still helpful as ever.
A little disappointed. Called ahead to verify hours. Drove 40 minutes from Rocklin to restock my supplies. When i arrived the doors were locked an hour and a half before we were told they would be closed. Nice part about local stores is well their locality selection and immediate satisfaction. The nice part about Amazon is that they never close early.
I went in to get a little bit of help with framing some cards for a gift. Matthew, the gentleman who helped me, went way above and beyond. I needed the frame done really fast, so custom framing wouldnt work because it would have taken longer than I needed, so Matthew helped me come up with a good way to please everything, and totally walked me through the process a framing the cards myself. Even devastating for me cuz I really didnt get! in a world where customer service is usually not very good anymore, it was so refreshing to come into the store and feel like I was really taken care of.
The food is great and the service is excellent. The staff always treat me like family! I highly recommend this place!
I love supporting local small businesses. They have great art supplies as well as framing. The inventory is great and the employees know their stuff. They have a quick turnaround on quotes for framing and they do exceptional work. We are fans of University Art.
Great service by the staff! Wasnt sure what I needed and they worked with me till all questions were answered. Go there soon.
Great store. One of the few places left in the world where you can give a (artistic) kid five bucks and for them to find something they want, even if its only three colored pencils. I love looking round and marvelling at all the tools, paints, canvases and arty toys. Staff are informed and extremely friendly. feels less like a chain store which is nice. I can easily spend a half-hour just wandering around looking.
A nicely stocked art supply store. They had everything I needed at a good price. The staff was very helpful and informed.
Great selection of products and relatively competitive pricing. However, there is one particular elderly female clerk that has a habit of racial-profiling. If not for her, I wouldve given 5 stars. She brings them down to a 3. Be advised.
This is great place to purchase all kinds of speciality pens and markers for calligraphy and lettering projects. They also have really neat section for gift for children. I wish they had stores like these in every community, then we all could be artists.
PROS:Great friendly customer service.Art supplies ranging from beginners and children, to professional level.Cool little odds and ends as wellCONS:Some stocking limitations due to store size. But still great selection.Parking is a little difficult. Watch the street meter restrictions.
Cool art store with awesome staff and some pretty unique finds I really wasnt expecting to see! They had some erasers that I love and usually order from vendors importing them from Japan which was really nice because I got them here and now and really needed them. They also sell singles of Blackwings which is also nice to find and they even had singles of their latest volumes edition which I had to jump on.Im pretty sure their picture frame section is 50% of the store so if you love frames you could build yourself a house with their selection.
Never been before and took my son to get screen printing materials, received terribly rude customer service by hipster too cool to communicate. Excellent art supplies. Go there to fend for yourself and get what you need on your own.
An art store with extensive stock for all things art. Great selection of cards and off the wall gifts. Expect to pay top dollar. I have bought similar items from Amazon.
Amazing store .. I found most of the art supplies needed for my architecture classes (which was hard to find in a different store) .. They are also giving a student discount ... Plus a very nice costumer service.
Such a great store to find all sorts of art supplies. The service is very friendly also!
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If I cant find it, theyll order it for me and always give good advice on how to go about my projects. For those complaining about lack of scrapbooking supplies or yarn. Um, HELLO its an ART store not a craft store.
Great art supply store. Just about everything an artist needs including framing supplies. Good prices!! Nice helpful staff!
Cute for painting and that kind of stuff, not for any kind of embroidery
Excellent selection. Fair prices. Customer service is outstanding! You may be able to find this or that cheaper online but if you want to be able to walk into a beautiful art supply store and get knowleable help please resist the online save 5% temptation and support this wonderful store. I have been shopping at brick and motor art supply stores for over 25 years throughout the bay area and I can honestly say this is one of the best.
So inspired to create when I go to this store. They have a decent supply of pens paper and multiple mediums for both hobbyist and proffessional artists alike.
Found good matte board here for framing projects. They have really good pens, art supplies, and an impressive selection of gifts for the art-friendly person. Staff has always been helpful on my many visits.
Great selection art supplies and friendly staff. Locked my keys in my car out front and they went out of their way to help me out.
Being the only Art Store in the Midtown area puts alot of pressure on Univetsity Art.But University is and has been the go to Art Supply Store for decades. With quality supplies that range from A to Z. From Classes, to selecting the perfect pencil. Or the perfect color for that huge mirror are you supposed to paint yesterday. The sales staff are knowledgeable and incredibly helpful.I have to call this place my second home at times... theyve always been there for me
My boyfriend and I stepped in here while on a date to escape the oppressive September heatwave. We had so much fun walking through the store--there were so many supplies for every type of artistic expression youd want. Brushes, oils, canvases, clay, pencils, markers, and more. They also sell some games, craft-related books, calendars, blank journals, Moleskeins, and greeting cards. We were both drooling over all the amazing items available and cursing our lack of artistic talent.
Decent place with some unique finds, but franchise art stores & Amazon have better prices. The middle-aged brunette woman who works there seems uncomfortable around minority customers so I generally feel uneasy when shes my cashier. Everyone else, though, are friendly and very helpful.
Great art store. I always find items here that no one else carries and knowledgeable staff. A good selection of unique art papers as well and easels.
They have a great selection of art supplies and the staff have the best intentions with copious a quantity of patience when working with hobby-orriented people. Theyre polite and respectful to all customers but it helps if you know a little about your project yourself because theyre not art teachers. A lot of times youll hear about how they werent helpful when that wasnt the case.they dont give out instructions for your new Pinterest idea but theyve gone beyond their job description giving advice on materials that work well together and methods theyve experienced the most success with. Theyre also honest, if they dont know how to go about something its not that they arent helping they just dont know, but they have an idea of the best materials and what aisle they can be found. It took some getting used to but theyre genuine people who do their jobs well. If youd like a recommendation, Jen has worked there for quite a long time and has been more than helpful at every project I take on.
Awesome experience everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. I asked for clay and I received a mini workshop on varied approaches to using it. I will shop here again.Great vintage toy section as well.
Great place to pick up student supplies for dioramas as well as drawing supplies. The template selection is on point and love the pencils
Super nice people that work here. This place is for this artists by trade and heart. I love going to this place and my son loves it even more. I totally recommend checking this place out. Excellent Customer Service!
Local place with lots of great people to help out. Typical art store with a big selection.
I go here for all my art supplies. And they have the best greeting, birthday, thank you, etc. cards here!
Great store and great service! I worked with the team to purchase supplies for an event I was coordinating from afar. I appreciated their attention to detail, kindness, and how easy the process was. Looking forward to working with the store again.
The workers were very helpful and actually wanted to help me get what I needed for my classes.
I go here often to get all my art supplies, and they have so many other fun things I dont really need but end up buying (such as tiny chicken!!). Its a little expensive, but Ive found great gifts and cards here.
I cannot believe the constant level of professionalism in the framing work done at University Art - Im from New York, and this work is New York level.Really helpful staff, all kinds of treasures for children and adults. A superlative store, run by Dave, a superlative manager whos constantly onsite.
It was our first time here and we were very happy with all the art material we could find, the staff is very friendly and very helpful.
This art store is always nice and great supplies. Prices are competitive and store stock was full. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Excellent selection of pre-made frames. All were kind of expensive though.
Had some pictures framed there they were helpful much better than the other places Ive been to also go there to buy art supplies they are very helpful the people there are all artists so would you have a question they can always answer it for me and give me ideas that I had not thought about yet
Cool little store. Good selection of art supplies, and always friendly staff. They have a cute little selection of toys and games for kids that make great little gifts and stocking stuffers too.
Super helpful staff and a great selection of supplies. They also have a great framing shop attached.
Incredible selection of pencils and pens. And very helpful staff who know what their doing.
Really like varied inventory. Can pretty much find what I want for general art needs
Great place for artists, both beginning and professional, who are wanting not only affordable quality materials, but also advice from experienced knowledgeable staff. Sign up for their newsletter if youre interested in product demos or workshops.
Very friendly staff. They reframed my picture beautifully.
I wish I had more money. This store is huge, stuffed with stuff. Its an artists dream. Its a little spendy. The staff is very helpful.
Fantastic service, answered all of our questions and gave great recommendations. Very patient as we came in at closing time. Large variety of items
Helpful and nice. Not the cheapest place but definitely the nicest.
My fav
Great things to buy as gifts
The staff is definitely helpful in most cases. The products can be a bit expensive. I prefer searching online before, however, if there is a time crunch, they will serve the needs.
Perhaps the best place to buy art supplies in Northern California.
Employee Yvonne was a great and very friendly help with assisting me in finding a product I was searching to purchase thank you very much. I would advise anyone to go to university art for awesome customer service.
All manner of art supplies. Fun, fun, fun.
Great local business, and I have found 80 percent of their products are cheaper than Amazon.
Convenient location, great selection, helpful and knowledgable staff, interesting classes, and supportive of local artists. Prices are not cheap except their annual sale, but they arent gouging either.
Always cool to check out the art supplies
Lots of cool stuff. Way cheaper than Ben Franklin in Grass Valley
Local art supply store with stock that will meet the needs of both casual and serious artists - canvas, paints, and various other mediums. Carries supplies for adult coloring books as well.
Pretty good selection though they didnt have what I was looking for.
Stock on hand on brushes was a little slim the time I went in, but still found what was needed
