Fixed my passenger mirror. Took a lot of time. Lots of us calling them to have to check in. Took 2 cars there total. Problem is no communicant, but the work is great. If you have patience perfect spot to take your car.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. These guys had our car for forever with very little communication about the status of the car. When we finally got it back a month and a half later, they swore it was going to drive perfectly. It didn’t. Took it into another auto shop and found out that half the stuff they said was fixed was only partly done, so now I’m paying for someone else to fix Payless Garage’s work. Never going here again.

I spent a lot of money to have my a/c recharged and it never did run cold after they worked on it. They ordered the wrong part 3 times and I finally had to order it for them. Someone left womens perfume in my vehicle which was awful smelling.They are just not very good at what they said they would do. In fact they were awful . I would go anywhere but here.

I will never go here again. They have a company that finances loans for people. Super high rates. The catcher here is we needed an 800.00 radiator. The loan co said we were approved up to 2100.00. Our bill was 2100.00. He spent every penny we could not afford until he hit the limit. However after no payments on the loan they settled it for 650.00. But Payless will never see me again.

I dont go here for touchy feely service, I go here because they know how to take care of getting my car fixed. They also go above and beyond making sure service is done right. I have not been disappointed! Integrity is why my family has been going here for years. And by the way, they really are nice to deal with!

My vehicle has been having a starting issue every winter when the temp drops for a few years now. Prior work done has only seemed like a costly band-aid. Ive taken it to several garages, but no one could figure out the root of the problem. It took a few stops to get all the diagnostic work done, but we finally figured out the problem. Swapped it out and within the hour, I was back on the road and it has fired up just fine ever since. I highly recommend if you got a serious issue, trust the team at Payless Garage, Jay will do you right.

Prices are decent, but after bringing in 2 different vehicles and both needing to be brought back to finish things they forgot to do - simple things! - Im not sure Im willing to go back. Listening to the mechanics brag about going to Eastern Oregon to shoot off homemade guns (I sincerely hope they meant semi-auto vs. automatic weapons) hasnt made me want to set foot inside their shop again either. Now Im looking for someone to finish connecting the air conditioner properly that wasnt finished here...

I was positively impressed with Payless Garage from the moment I exited my vehicle (2 weeks ago). What caught my attention? Parking lot had been swept.From that, until I left with a completed repair, my experience was consistently positive.I knew I needed a water pump on my 2003 Taurus. At 148,000 on the motor it was already leaking out the weep hole (engineered to leak, so you get it replaced before the bearing goes completely and you end up at least having to replace radiator, maybe cracking your block).Payless offered a same-day appointment but I wasnt ready to commit, needing two more days to accept paying for a repair I could do myself if I had the space and tools.I was quoted a fair price, right in the middle of the expected cost, so I booked the work. On arriving for the job, I authorized additional hose replacements if necessary and ended up needing one of the five replaced.Having paid for the work up front, in the end I had to kick in another $45 for the hose. Just now I got a quote from a parts shop, and theyd charge me $75 for the hose.Customer area is clean and neat. Television and good selection of mags to occupy your time, customer restroom in the corner.In the end, theres few things in a mechanic shop that matter to me as much as this:Can I trust them?ABSOLUTELY!

There were SO many issues when going to this place. We brought our VW in because it was dying due to oil pressure, the epc light was on and the check engine light was on and we wanted to see what it would cost to fix since its an older vehicle. They kept the car for 5 days, wouldnt answer the phone to give me updates and finally when I said I was coming tomorrow to pick it up because they hadnt done anything they said they replaced a sensor and itd be $200. I reluctantly paid it and viola everything is still happening on my way home so I call back and get the run-around from either the manager or owner, he tries to sell me a turbo because that could be the issue even though they told me when I picked it up they couldnt replicate the issue... He was just trying to make a sale to an unknowing customer. Sleezy! I replaced the mass airflow sensor and the epk sensor because the codes from AutoZone pointed me to the internet and viola it was the epk and everything works perfectly. I dont know what Im doing with cars and figured this out. These are professionals..... Ridiculous.And really there is a lot more but Im on my way to work and they dont deserve the time.

While attempting to replace the alternator on our car ourselves a bolt broke - these guys drilled out the bolt, hunted down a bolt that would fit and replaced the alternator. Dropped off in the morning and picked up this afternoon. Quick, professional and inexpensive. Thank you!

Forget the few disgruntled comments; this is old school competence, reliability and integrity from a family owned and operated business. Consider yourself fortunate to hear of these hard working gentlemen who go above and beyond their work order. This was my 3rd trip in, 2nd time with my truck. Best price in town, excellent work, and even fixed a related issue with no additional charges. Chuck did the work. Youre lucky to have him so get in now before he retires.

I was buying a used Chevy S-10 and needed a mechanic to give it a look over and Jay was able to meet us at the shop on a Saturday when they are closed. He took the truck for drive, brought it back put it up on the lift and really gave it a good looking over. Helped me to lower the negotiating price. The work that needed to be done I also let them do and the truck runs great. I couldnt be any happier. Its probably been over a year now. Since then Ive become friends with the guys at the shop. Payless Garage does very good work and has OUTSTANDING mechanics, very honest and good people to work with.

Depending on the service, theyre often a bit more expensive than some of the other places in town, but you know the work will be done right. I had to deal with them for just over a year and they were always great to work with. Everything I had them do has held up well and the work was always done on time and theyre very accommodating if youre not a jerk about it. I had to come get the car on a Saturday and the work was done on Friday. I let them know and they left the spare in it, locked, and I went to the lot and drove off the next morning (they dont operate weekends). Ive recommended them to a few people who dont need specialist work and theyve all seemed happy with the results too.Your car is your baby and you rely on it to get to and from work, leaving it with Payless I always knew theyd get it fixed right. You get what you pay for, and the service was always friendly, fast, and most of all, *done correctly*.

My family has been taking their vehicles to these guysfor years. Recently had my car in there for a repair. They fixed the issue. Their customer services is the poorest I’ve seen anywhere. Employees arguing with each other at the front desk, no one knowing what is going on, they gave us the run around on the phone, cost us more money. I wouldn’t use them if they were the last garage on earth and my car broke down while zombies where chasing me with machetes.

Chuck & Tim did great work on our small four-door economy car. Had it done in a hurry, too. The first time we took our car to Payless Garage in 2015, we had a disconnected engine idle control sensor that caused the Check Engine light to stay on with a rough idle. Payless diagnosed the problem via their Automotive Computer, corrected the problem, and told me, no charge. Great customer service, with courteous phone contact, and friendly staff at the shop and office.

Three generations of service technicians. We have had our vehicles serviced there for 25 years. Always reasonable. Now with diy they charge to locate the problem so you can diy or proceed with them doing the service. They just completed replacing my flywheel and installing a new starter I got last fall but hadnt installed when I realized it was the starter. Once they got in to replacing flywheel they ran into trouble removing engine exhaust header bolts which had to be drilled out and replaced to get flywheel in. I thought it would add hundreds more to repair only ended up about $150 more. They dont gouge on extra work.

So I’m kind of frustrated with this place, the front offices son shouldn’t be working the front desk... doesn’t know what he’s doing... but I got my cv axel done, and said it was new parts... well not even two months later I had to replace it again... put a broken part into my car... so will not be coming back, very disappointed. Had to get everything they did looked at just to see if they did it correctly..

A great shop for just about any work you need done so far brought about six vehicles here and each time they were able to get me in and do the inspections prompt and at fairly reasonable prices. Jay the owner is a badass and extremely knowledgable about cars gabriel and chuck are grade a mechanics that work fast hard and efficiently . they are about solutions and i havnt left the garage and had any issues after which is always a plus so great work great garage and great service five stars.

I had to get a breathalyzer installed into my car, with a reduced rate from my EBT benefits. I was treated with respect the entire time. We have used Payless for all three of our cars since we moved to Salem in 2005. They have always provided us with excellent service and great value. I would recommend them highly.

We were told this garage had been in business since the late 70s and as new residents of Salem we were looking for a good mechanic. We took our 99 VW Passat in as it wouldnt start. We were told it was a panel (a costly fix). Since we dont use it that much, we asked if the panel could be bypassed. Yes, they said. For $225 dollars they bypassed the panel, but neglected to tell us that the windows and doors would no longer work. Who in the world would opt for a fix that would no longer allow them to open the windows or doors? Please. We picked up our car and will never go back.

We had a horrible experience here. We went for an install of a IID. We thought we got lucky by getting a same day appointment (only plus about this place). However, we arrived on time for our appointment and dropped the car off. We went to lunch while we waited (I dont recommend the sports bar next door, either). When we got back the car hadnt been touched and the guy in the office grumbled something about his brother, I believe. We walked to the bank a mile away this time and to two neighboring tire shops to make some inquiries. When we were leaving the Garage we saw two sketchy looking men in the parking lot. One man in a blue jump suit and another guy in street clothes laughing and looking at our car. Ok, so its kind of a gem, but how about some professionalism? The man in street clothes jumped into the car and drove it around the corner of the lot. When we returned, the man in the office started cashing us out. He asked if we were on the public assistance food program - Right?. I guess the woman we had spoken with on the phone earlier in the morning had somehow understood we were receiving food stamps and qualified for a free install from the shop. Instead of being apologetic that we were being told the entire time that the install would be free, hes a total jerk about it. After getting clarification and letting him know that we had been told otherwise but ok, he starts to threaten Well, I can just take it back out and.... I told him, I think we are past this. Lets move on.. We paid, let the man know that we wouldnt be back (to which he responded, good.) and left. We noticed that the dash hadnt been reattached around the ignition, they just left it hanging there. Furthermore, our stereo no longer works and they left part of the wiring harness sticking out from the floor.

Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I would never recommend them to anyone. I guess Payless stands for Careless Treated me like a child over the phone. No respect at all, stay away!
