SBS is awesome! Theyre always so nice and ready assist with any brew or fermentation needs. Their stock is super consistent and the basics are always on hand. Its fantastic to see that they carry a super high quality malting company from here in Oregon, Mecca Grade, love their malts! They carry a wide selection of malts and grains as well as a dizzying selection of hops. They stock Imperial and Wyeast for liquid yeast as well as the well known dry yeasts like Fermentis, Lavlin and Mangrove Jack. If you need it, they will most likely have it!

Proceed with caution:Yeast: I’ve had 2 completely dead liquid yeast packets from two manufacturers. I had to dump an entire batch once after yeast failed. He did give me a new packet once. The second time I made a starter and it had no activity and offered no replacement. So I was only out $15 or so. Every time I get yeast here it’s super laggy. Could be shipping or storage but always make a starter from here. The dry yeast should probably be fine but as a rule I try not to buy yeast here.Grains: if you weigh and mill it yourself you’ve got no problems and this place has the best selection in town.If he fills your grain bill WEIGH IT when you get it! I had a batch that was 13 points too low. Tracked it down to the only thing it could be which was 2lb of missing grain off my grain bill. He did offer to credit me the $3 for the missing grain. Which was nice. But I spent 3 hours brewing $50 on grain, yeast, and hops and got 7 gallons of beer that is not what I meant to brew.Equipment: never had a problem with any equipment or accessories purchased. I try to buy stuff like that locally to support local business.Overall I’ve had to dump 1 batch, and had two dead yeast packets and 1 failed brew day after shopping here less than a year.I still shop here because of the lack of options in the area but be vigilant about yeast and grain or you’ll end up dumping beer or brewing a mystery grain bill.

This place has it all. From grains to bottle caps and everything in between. The best part is the customer service and free advice. They do have a website and hopefully one day shipping, but you can order online and have it delivered right to the store...even special orders. Prices are competitive and the selection is plentiful. Ill definitely be going back and I highly recommend you swing by and check it out too.

The young guy that used to work there was the best asset for this place. Since the change in ownership, things seem to continue to go downhill.As several people have already stated, lots of common, regular items are consistently out of stock. Never had issues with this before. Advice, environment, and personable employees is lacking. Actually went back into Homebrew Heaven after a recent stop here.

They are very friendly, helpful and carry many of the core supplies and ingredients to brew. I hope they expand their selection a little more. That would be my only little complaint. I think theyre willing to bring in new items apon request because theyve ordered things for me that they didnt normally carry. Great shop !

Seriously the best place to get brew supplies in the area. The gentlemen working there was very friendly and knowledgeable. Even though part of my order was on backorder, he allowed me to come by and grab the rest of the order.Not a necessarily a complaint, but I wish they were up in Portland, which is where I live. I plan on making the trek down to Salem to restock on bulk and other products as needed because my experience was so good.Definitely an awesome place to go should you need supplies locally, or slightly outside of the area.

Small place with great prices. If you buy grain a bag at a time, the prices are awesome. theyll even order you specialty malt bags. Good selection of yeasts and hops and will order anything they dont have just for you. I will be using this place exclusively for buying all my grains.

Love this place~ Ive just started homebrewing so Ive been in a few times with lots of questions. I always get super helpful answers; the guy there really got me set up for success. Its not a huge place, but so far Ive found everything I need... I know they can also order things if its not available in the store.

SInce opening this year I have been super stoked with the selection of ingredients. The prices are great and it is the only brew supply that carries Imperial yeast. This yeast blows away any I have used in its production and consistency.They try and have a good selection of hops available as well. My only knock is they dont carry belgian grains but other than that I highly recommend these guys.

Good selection, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful. I would give lower rating because (as of writing) they are only open 4 days a week, but they are so damn helpful. Could have a larger selection of hardware, but store contains enough for everyday home brewer. Plenty of grain and yeast selection and some beer kits. Store is small and kind of hard to find as it is nestled in the middle of a building that houses a contractor and industrial contractor supply store, so follow the A frame signs.

Best brew store in salem. Selection is good and the people are friendly. They were able to give me a ton of help transitioning from bottling to kegging! I highly recommend them!

Guess Im looking for a new brew supply store. Used too to be a great place to go for novice Brewers when Richard was there. Appears hes gone and so am I as a customer and thats too bad. Not only has helpful advice and general staff knowledge seems to have disappeared ...... But in stock inventory does not appear up to the level it was a year ago. To me.... A major loss.....

This place isnt very big, but I havent had a problem finding any supplies I need. These guys are great, always willing to help and eager to do so. I went in as a first timer and they seemed just as excited to help me as I was excited to brew my first.

Great shop! He helped me get set up to brew for the first time, though Im new to brewing they have a great selection, great knowledge, friendly, and excited about helping others. Prices are spot on a great deal, I enjoy supporting this buisness over online. Check this place out! Time to brew....Update 4/16/2018Was 5 stars, Ill give three now, good selection, pricing has gone up all around to the point Im considering the shopping elsewhere. Unfortunately, reason unknown, the great Richard no longer works there, in my opinion he was the enthusiasm and knowledge and passion that made the store what it was. He got me into homebrewing beer cider and wine. I usually shopped here biweekly but no reason to now. Owner now occupies the store, so hey it is what it is and its his store. Hopefully things get back on a awesome path, but basically notice this, atmosphere has changed, prices have changed, in a sense- management too...My personal opinions, not influenced by emotion, only beer.... :-)

Fun visit, learned a lot. I enjoyed learning about all the hops and grains. There is so many interesting facts and history. Youll find a great variety of grains, hops, extracts, equipment and more.

Good homebrewing store, but the new location seems to be lacking in inventory, especially equipment. I still plan on going back for ingredients, but if Im going to have to order hardware I might as well just go on amazon.

They almost always have everything we need. If they dont have it, they will order it. Ingredients are always fresh. The gentleman who runs the shop is very friendly and helpful.

Great grain selection, good prices, need more of a yeast selection

New owners have made a huge difference! Much more knowledgeable. A great source for help on keezers and kegerators. Inventory has improved.

Support local Homebrew! Nice enough staff but dont carry a lot in stock. Im sure they can get whatever you need but Ive been in a few times and they didnt have certain tubing or even stir bars. Disappointed but wont stop me from going back.
