I came into Papé looking for the perfect fitted tractor for my property. When I came in I had the pleasure of working with Kirk! He went above and beyond, he even came to look at my property to make sure I was getting exactly what I needed at the best price.Tractor was delivered in reasonable time! Definitely would recommend going here and asking for Kirk!
1 1/2 years ago I had 2 very bad experiences with this business. I tried to buy a $500+ hedge trimmer and I had really rough time even getting the salesman to aknowledge I was there and then he did not want to start it up for me so I could see it ran. The service deoartment charged me more for a weed-eater service than my unit cost new. After a fight, they finally reduced the price. I swore I would never go there again. I relented when my finished mower needed seals. This time they called with questions about the service, charged a fair price, and were polite when I picked it up. It appears they are trying to improve their customer service.
ABSOLUTE TERRIBLE experience. Worked with Kirk at Papé Machinery trying to get a BCS. Got strung out waiting for equipment for 5 months and then he canceled the order. The whole experience was awful. Each communication felt like some weird power dynamic / and felt like a gaslight. Called BCS directly and they were confused why this would have happened and set me up with a new dealer, and helped me navigate what machines would be available sooner. What a giant waste of time.
I have been buying equipment from Kirk for over 30 years. He asks how I plan to use the equipment and has been a great help in selecting the right products. He has even suggested less costly options that would work better than the more expensive item I was planning to purchase. He delivers items to my home personally and makes sure I am well versed in the proper operations of the equipment. For the above reasons, I always search him out when I am considering major equipment purchases.
We recently bought a new Series 1 John Deere tractor from Kirk Gilman. We were so impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. From start to finish we felt like he really cared about our needs, had great follow up with any questions we had and even came out to our property to give us a quick how to once the tractor was in. We would definitely recommend working with Kirk.
Extremely happy with the service and help Ive been getting buying my new 3032e tractor and implements. Kirk has been very helpful from the beginning to even coming out to my house and making sure I understand how everything works and looking at how Ive set up the implement and point it out some things I need to correct. This is not a salesman necessarily this is somebody who is passionate about tractors understands tractors has a lot of experience with tractors and happens to sell them.This is my second purchase the first being my zMAX zero turn mower and Im very happy to keep everything green and yellow in my shop.
This place is for farmers.We went looking for a zero turn mower but the salesman knew nothing about them even though they had some there. The store is large and neat with easy access in and out. If you have some land this may be the place for you.
Before talking to the Pape crew I found tractors and related implements shopping to be more confusing than buying a car by far. Kirk took the time to answer my questions without pressure over the course of months as I digested my research. There were probably times he may have doubted I was even a serious buyer but always was glad to answer my questions. He helped me save money by zeroing in on just what I really needed and what was just overkill waste. The backhoe attachment is going to change my life and save my back. I am sure I got the right machine for my needs at a great price, so do my neighbors . No regrets, none...If only I had bought my car here also.Great service team, can do and on time. My go to for equipment needs.
The parts counter guy is super helpful and will give you information if you buy from them or not. They keep it well stocked with John Deere mowers and have plenty of parking. They are offering hand sanitizer at the door too.
Tried to buy a new lawn tractor today. After waiting 30 minutes for the sales person to get to me (he was on the phone), I settled on a $5700 lawn tractor complete with accessories. When I got to the counter there was another mysterious $125 charge. The sales person was again too busy to come let me know what more I was being charged for. After having spend over two hours in the store, I wasnt ready to hang around any more. I told the cashier to cancel my order and I walked out. I definitely wont be working with this business again. BTW, The salesman, Kirk, never managed to put his mask on...if I get COVID, can I send the medical bills to his address?

After the recent ice storm, I needed a grapple for my 4R tractor. I called Kirk who emailed me the brochure and price sheet. I picked the one I wanted and he ordered it. He delivered it this morning.I’ve done business with Pape since 2007 when I bought my first compact tractor, a Deere 790. I first dealt with Kirk buying several implements for that tractor. He’s taken the time over the years to understand our small farm and landscaping needs. Through the years we’ve bought 2 X-series mowers with various attachments, several Stihl products and eventually upgraded the 790 to a 4R series. It’s gotten to the point that if I need something, I send him an email requesting information and price. When it’s time to order, he emails me the paperwork and we’re done. The only time I need to go into the store is to pay and pick up what I’ve ordered. It’s like online shopping, only dealing with someone who knows their product line and our specific needs. I know they’re busy and I usually have a good idea what I want. Kirk will offer suggestions if he thinks something may work better for me. If I need to come in and work through an order like the 4R upgrade, we set up an appointment and go through it line by line. I’ve also had great service from the parts and service departments. I wish all sales/service outlets were as efficient as Pape.

I wanted to thank Pape machinery in Salem on Lardon Rd, and Kirk Gilman for a great experience in buying a tractor. My wife and I shopped around at a few locations, but did not find the same courtesy, professionalism, knowledge, and help as we did with Pape. Kirk offered a wealth of knowledge for us as first time tractor buyers, and even came to our house to look at our property to help us decide what size tractor would fit our needs best. The way we were helped was a great experience and will definitely bring us back in the future.

I recently was shopping for my first tractor to purchase for our small 5 acre farm. I had narrowed it down to three. I ended up buying a John Deere 1025R tractor. Not only was it John Deere’s reputation and reliability, but the persistence of Kirk at Pape Machinery to earn and want our business. He, by far, exceeded any other salesman from other dealerships in his effort to do what it would take to deserve and earn our business and was a big factor in my decision. I could not be happier. I have purchased both a Stihl trimmer and blower from Pape. I have always had a good experience working with Kirk. I remember him when his Dad and he ran Salem Farm and Garden. And as a kid I remember being at their first place, Vista Feed and Seed. early 1960s :-)I have had my lawn equipment serviced by Pape. They fixed my JD mower and Power Trim Edger.Also have had great times dealing with Lee, Chris and Tim.Lee has been excellent in explaining to me how various equipment operates.

Almost bought a new 5055 tractor here but after realizing I couldnt return parts without paying an 80% re stock fee on my older garden tractor I am now holding off to do research on a new maker.
We went in to purchase two pieces of equipment. Walked in and browsed around. The parts folks were friendly and tried to get the sales man to help us. He (Kirk) was at his desk with another customer and said, loudly enough for us to hear, Hang on, I need to get rid of these people.Kirk then approached us and impatiently gave us information, trying both to up sell us and rush us out of the store. Kirk ended by giving us his business card and saying hed love to do business with us. We thought this might be an off day, but looked up reviews here and saw Kirk mentioned by name several other times for his rude attitude. Wont be giving this store our business!

My wife and I just purchased a lawn tractor. We had a great experience, staff took time to explain the different options John Deere provided in their lawn tractors. The person we worked with made sure to explain things to my wife so she would feel comfortable in the tractors operation. After or first contact we took a week to make our decision and our sales person promptly answered our email questions. We decided on a Friday what tractor we wanted and it was delivered early the following week.
Service is awesome. Parts are overpriced by 3 fold! Buy deere if your rich....

2021 had major repairs done on an x500 lawn tractor and gator. Customer service was amazing and the repair quality is off the charts. Not only did they quickly discover the problems (yes, Im hard on my eq), they fixed, reviewed, serviced EVERYTHING that needed it. The cost was fair and I am so grateful they were willing to fix my blunders. Thank you Pape, well done!
Expensive but I have been a customer since 1989, starting back at Salem Farm and Garden on Commercial St SE. We bought a JD riding mower and a BCS tiller back then and I finally had to replace the mower this year(2019). I owned that mower for over 20 years and never replaced the battery, must be some kind of record. The BCS tiller is still in use but a few years ago I had Pale replace the Acme engine with a 10 HP Honda engine and this year I had to replace the tiller attachment. As I indicated at the opening, great equipment, good service, just a little too expensive but I guess this is what you should expect when dealing with the long green line.
Excellent service, helpful, reasonable pricing. I use these guys for all my John Deere tractor parts and also for generators, and Rears powerblast as well. If they dont have it, they can get the parts in quick.
As a former employee I have a lot to say about pape.Pape is a good slow moving company, “meaning” not up to today’s pay scale.Went through a lot at pape and a lot of training still no pay raise.I’m sorry I have to post this review but it’s for the good of anyone who sees it until they can get there act together.

Sorry I had to leave this company, and this for 2 reasons.1. Pay scale was so far behind.2. Management needed to be rebuilt from the ground up.4 years of being at this company and only $3 pay raise.I would not recommend working here if you want to move up the ladder.

The purchase experience was fine. Item was at another corporate site, so was promised item would be ready several days later. Item arrived, asked for delivery. Told that the shop would call. Waited 2 weeks, so I called. Was informed that they sold the item even after I had paid for it. They promised to get another of same item. No call for 4 weeks, then contacted them, no product yet. I told them to cancel order, I was going to change to Kubota, dude said ok, and hung up. Tried to contact manager, then got disconnected. NEVER GOING GREEN AGAIN. JD should lose Pape as a dealer, they have zero customer service.
In the door experience is good. Sales experience was horrible! I went to pape to purchase a riding lawn mower and that is it. I have a tractor and dont need anything fancy just a mower to cut grass. So my wife and I picked out a D series. I am well aware of the type of mower this is, however I dont expect it to do anything but cut a lawn and pull a cart. Kirk the sales manager tried to talk us into a 3000.00 and up mower because the D series in his words are junk and he wont sell them. He also basically refused to give me the free cart that is offered with this purchase directly from the Deere site until I showed him the offer on their site. Kirk is a jerk basically ridiculed me and my family for our purchase and was not helpful in anyway. If you dont want to sell a product that you seem to stock a lot of then quit. I suppose I should have taken my business elsewhere and will be from now on. There are certain customers that have a budget and need to stick to it instead of trying to force with into something that will make your pockets fatter and gain them nothing. Also one last point, he was going to work up a deal with the mower and the bagging system when all of a sudden after the free cart was mentioned that deal disappeared. Lowes has the same bagger for 1/2 price, They will be getting my money. I still have not received the cart either, they said their location doesnt have them, Kind of odd when a corporate deal is going on for you not to have the item. Worst experience ever.
Went to order a part n got sticker shock, but thats what it costs, used a little bit of the stimulus $$, nice store n friendly staff.
