What a wonderful store! I am visiting from out of state and wanted to get some authentic Japanese onigiri rice cakes and just happened to find this shop while looking online and Wow it is a gem. Clean, well-stocked and specializing in Japanese foods. They have a busy kitchen making real-deal, freshly prepared Japanese bento box takeouts. I lived in Japan and have been back many times to visit, so I know the real thing and this store stocks everything you’d see in Kyoto at a neighborhood grocery, including the small, beautiful fresh takeout dishes. Too many Americans think Japan is only sushi, but it’s so much more. I told the owners that I especially loved gobo root and carrot side dish and they were sweet to sell me a large takeout version.

They also have a large section of Japanese style cookware, tea pots, ceramics, and other beautiful hand crafted goods. You gotta check this spot out.Gokurosama deshita!

Great store - but be cautious of purchasing the wasabi mayo. It is a shelf stable product that I opened within 2 hours of purchase. However, it was separated and apparently rancid. Upon tasting, I began to have immediate violent vomiting. The owners let me know that I would be able to get a refund if I returned to the store. Unfortunately, I live 40 miles away.Despite this incidence, I will return for more groceries when I am in town.Double check the mayo!!

Where to start?? They have the best bento box lunches in all of SLC!Get there at 10:00 when they open for the best selection! Prefer to sit down and eat? Try the ramen or beef curry. Seating is limited and expect a long wait during lunch time but it is worth the wait. They also stock almost every Asian culinary product you can think of...this side of Japan! Its my go to place to Nori, Gari, Miso, Oi Ocha, Furikake, Umeboshi and much, much, more! A small but appropriate and unique selection of sundries such as sake sets, tea sets, and sushi dishes.

They also serve hot lunch items like ramen and udon as well as bento lunches, onigiri, and simple sushi. These are always fresh and high quality and the staff is very friendly and polite. They dont have a ton of fresh produce, but do have a lot of frozen products. Our oldest son is developing a strong interest in the Japanese language and culture so to help him explore his interest, my husband searched for a Japanese import store. Japan-Sage Market is a wonderful business and did not disappoint! The staff is friendly, polite, and welcoming and the store is very clean. Our son was excited to explore and see the different products on the shelves. He quickly found new and interesting products he wanted to purchase and now he is planning to save his money and go back on a monthly basis. My husband and I were happy with the sushi we purchased up by the register and plan to go back to try their take out ramen soon. They are more of a grocery store/deli so If youre on the hunt for manga/anime, you wont find too much of that. If youre looking for a good Japanese food/kitchen accessory import store, I seriously recommend Japan-Sage Market!

Normally between 10am to 2pm. Simple menu but great taste and affordable price and great service. That means theyre doing great job. I take My daughter to come here too every Saturday. They also had the best sushi deals or I should say nigiri, and their Japanese snacks. Theyre also have small size of seaweed salad, pickled veggies so that way you dont have to buy the whole thing. The Japan Sage Market is an amazing store, they have everything Japanese; from Lacquer-ware to food items, they have it all! Seriously! I cannot get over how welcoming the staff are, or how well-stocked, clean and delicious their food, both packaged and fresh, is.Addendum(s):- Just tried one of their Salted-Plum rice-cakes and, honestly, (even going-in thinking it was sweetish) it was DELICIOUS! My god, so simple, yet so fresh and delicious I want another!I also HIGHLY Reccomend you try the following:(Brand - Product name. (Description))1) Calbee- Seaweed & Salt Potato Chips. (Slightly salted, umami-rich seaweed potato-chips)2) Kasugai- Milk Candy: Plum Flavour. (Im eating one now, my god, no actual milk, just soy and DELICIOUS!!) (Rice, wrapped in dried Nori Seaweed with Salted plum jam in the bottom)3) Sangaria- Royal Milk Tea.4) Sangaria- Ramu Bottle. (Excellent flavours include: Melon, Lemon- Original, and Strawberry)5) Maeda-En- Lychee Flavoured Sherbert. (With Coconut Jelly)6) (Brand unkown- Cannot interpret Kanji or Hirgana!)- Seiki Konpeito- Sakura/ Wasurenagusa/ etc. (These are varities OF Seiki Konpeito)7) Calbee- Jagarico. (Seaweed flavour) (Rich Umami Taste, ALMOST BETTER than the First product I mentioned, almost! Although... unlike product one they resealable and believe or not, MORE savoury. Theyre also, delicious!)8) Meiji- Black Chocolate. (A chocolate with lesss than 70% Cacao that Im now eating which is, honestly, better than Hersheys.... DANG! Its sweet, but neither the sweet nor the bitter overpower each other- on to piece two, three, *muffled* FOUR!....Its an EXCELLENT dark chocolate with nicely bitter after- and under-taste.)
