They post a fish online for $24.99 when I asked they gave me a different price so I show them their own post they get mad. They make up their own price as they go along and the husband and wife gave me totally different price on the same fish that cost online. This place is over price so I end up buying a couple fish down the block (Topical Fish Stop) the place to buy best quality fish.

Bought koi here and bought koi at aquatic warehouse on complex st. Bought what seems the same size and quality koi at both places. At Pet Zone the price was $17 each and aquatic was 4 for $100 or $30 each. The selection was much better at Pet Zone and the prices are cheaper. Wanted to give Aquatic warehouse a negative review due to the guy that nets the fish swapped fish on me ( I believe intentionally), quickly wrapped them up and took my money. Didnt get my red and white koi I really wanted. Instead he swapped it with a yellow fish (YUK !). This lady at Pet Zone is very nice honest person. Everything was straight forward and much easier to select and complete my purchase.

All of our fish arrived dead this morning (there was no delay in overnight shipping). The bag was cloudy. They were cooked alive, the water was hot. Never again. I feel absolutely terrible.

Bad experience on so many levels1. Allowed me to place online order for fish not in stock without informing that being the case2. No response to support email (sent over a month ago now)3. Shipped partial order only but charged full amount4. After calling their number, they offered to refund but never did.Ended up disputing with my credit card company. Stay away. I highly recommend Wetspot Tropical Fish instead. Superb experience with them every time. Petzone lost my business after the first transaction.

This is one of the best aquatic based stores in San Diego. Most of the fish they have are more freshwater based rather than saltwater. They accept donated fish, they quarantine newly arrived fish, and the staff know a-lot about most of the fish. Definitely coming back here more often.

The people that work here are always friendly and helpful. They also a ton of different treats and food options. I am so happy to have found this store. Its a mainstay for my shopping for now on and will recommend the shop to my relatives!

I placed an order on Thursday, April 15th, since I live in Orange County, CA, I selected USPS Priority Mail as my shipping option, I received an e-mail with tracking info stating that my order shipped on Thursday, April 15th. As of today, Wed, April 21, 2021, I still have not received my order. It isnt a delay by USPS as I order fish and shrimp from a vendor in Seattle on the same day, they shipped their order on Monday, April 19th and their order arrived today via USPS Priority Mail. It doesnt take 4 days (not even counting the weekend) for a order from San Diego, CA, to make it to Cypress, CA. THis is unacceptable and they dont answer their 800#.

I ordered a Flowerhorn (who shall be referred to as Mr. Wonderful from now on) and had it shipped to my home in Gulfport, MS. Mr. Wonderful shipped exactly when the shipping policy stated that he would. I received emails from Pet Zone when I placed the order and when Mr. Wonderful actually left the store along with the tracking number. Finally, when I received Mr. Wonderful he was packaged well (quadruple bagged with a heater pack in a small cooler) and in perfect condition. Mr. Wonderful is definitely the exact same fish that was advertised/photographed on the website. Pet Zones photographs accurately depicted the size and color of Mr. Wonderful.Often, ordering livestock online can be a nerve-racking experience fraught with uncertainty. This was such an easy, flawless, and pleasant transaction. Without reservation I will order from Pet Zone again in the future and I recommend that everyone else give them try. If your experience is anywhere close to mine you will not be disappointed. Thanks Pet Zone and keep up the good work!

My experience at Pet Zone was excellent! The owner was very helpful and friendly, I felt very welcomed in her store. While this is a smaller store compared to the Convoy St location, it still has a decent selection of fish including bettas, flowerhorns, and arowana. They also had a new, unopened shipment of driftwood that the owner opened and allowed me to browse. She even was kind enough to reserve a siamese fighting fish until my tank was ready for him.Definitely recommend but if you need more supplies, try their Convoy St location!

My Hubby and I can’t express enough how AWESOME Pet Zone is! We normally go into the Convoy store but finally made it to the University location to pick up 2 fish that have been on our DREAM/WISH/BUCKET LISTS! We went in thinking we were buying 1 and ended up with 2 RARE AMAZON PUFFERS! Even getting there at close we managed to end up leaving with 2 additional tanks but the prices were so reasonable/LOW, the additional splurging didn’t feel wrong! No buyers remorse here especially when buying from our favorite Tropical Fish Franchise! They had a welcoming cat that came up to me and wanted me to pet.although they had a small selection of fish to choose from at this location, I was extremely proud to be able to support my local pet store. Im so glad things are going well for them that they have a second branch open in convoy area. You guys are awesome!

They have a cute cat roaming the store that you can pet.They have a wide variety of fish available for very reasonable prices. Cheaper than most other stores. They have some of the best discus fish around. Make note. They only sell freshwater fish.

Love this place. Used to buy my fish and stuff at large chain stores like Petco and such until I found this place. The lady is really friendly. Also the they have fish that you won’t find in other parts of San Diego. Also really full of knowledge about the hobby and they won’t force sell you anything and if you don’t have the right setup they can choose not to sell it to you. Which is good because other places try to force sell you fish regardless and in the end the animal suffers and dies and you lose money.

This place is a scam. I ordered a UNS 60u natural wood finish fish tank cabinet in 1/2020. I was informed that the item was on back-order, which I was expecting due to the popularity of the cabinet. I waited until 4/2020 when I got an email and account update indicating that the item was shipped; however, there was no tracking or any other information available. Given this all happened during the COVID pandemic I was trying to be understanding and giving them plenty of time to sort out any issues. However, it has been an nightmare reaching anyone over the past 3 months. I have texted them multiple times and 95% i get no response, I tried calling and only able to get answering machine despite their recording saying that they are now open. The 5% of the time I am able to get a response via text, theyve always said that they will contact me in a few minutes which always ends up being no response. Now for the past several weeks, they have completely stopped responding and have stolen my $300 with no product or update. I did try to give them benefit of the doubt given the pandemic, but this is unacceptable, they are basically scammers. Please think twice before buying from them, they will take your money and ship nothing!

Sold them an item on Ebay stating no returns. The item worked perfect (just took it out of the bag) but they returned it anyway costing me $10 in shipping fees on a $15 item. I Dont feel bad about returning anything to this store!

I honestly had such a great experience here I had to leave a review. I came in for a betta I first called ahead and the guy at the convoy suggested I go to the location at university as they had more variety available. The older couple at the university were so sweet and nice she even gave me live bloodworms to feed my betta. Just the whole vibe in the store was nice, they also have a black cat as a security guard there (lol). Wanting a friend for my betta I got a zebra snail from the convoy location and am so happy with them both and plan to get more. Thank you guys for still being open and so helpful and friendly during the COVID-19 crisis. 100% recommend this place call ahead or look online to avoid any confusions they even offer online ordering and curve side pick up.

This place has been around for a very long time. I started coming here over 10 years ago. Yes they seem outdated but rest assured the fish are top notch. Most fish loss is do to customers not knowing how to keep fish properly. Either way they carry a wide array of both common and rare tropical fish. I also enjoy their Kearny Mesa location.

Went to visit for the first time. Drove all the way from the South Bay to be greeted by a Store Closed sign. It had a clock saying they would be back at 10 am but it was 11 am already? 🤔 Anyway, just wanted to buy aquarium supplies. I was forced to drive farther to Pet Kingdom.

Review and poor score is for their online shipping and customer service. I’ve ordered twice from them and both orders had issues showing lack of care by the staff and poor husbandry.First order of six Otocinclus catfish, two of them were clearly in bad shape and should not have been shipped out. I now have four catfish left. Second order, they forgot to put a heat pack and temps were cold overnight. Water was ice cold when it arrived and fish looked very bad with two DOA and two more on deaths doorstep. Upon closer inspection of these ten glow light Rasbora, they are all skinny with sunken bellies. Three of them are very skinny any listless, barely able to swim. It’s clear these guys do not even look at the fish they are catching and bagging. I would never ship fish like these and I worked in the aquarium biz for a long time so I know quality livestock and good shipping procedures and this ain’t it.They use a random separate email for their doa claim in an attempt to screw people out of their claims. By the time I was made aware of this separate email, it was too late for my claim. They want you to mutilate the dead bodies of your fish also to get a doa claim which is disturbing. I wrote an email about the above issues and they didn’t read it, just sent a canned response back and no offer of credit or anything to resolve the issues. Never again.

This place is awesome. Decent selection of fish. Its one of those local hole in the wall gems. The couple running the store were very helpful. I walked away with a wave maker, fish, and accessories for my pond. The fish I purchased were feeder goldfish and comets that are living happily in my pond. I would highly recommend this fish store!

Mike picasimus has a little thorns and was getting way too big for my 55 gallon tank.The owners are always in there ready to help you the most polite people I know. They run a great business and theyre honest.

Terrible. Yeah they may have a wide selection but the pricing is terrible and the fish dont live long. Ive been doing fish tanks since I was 5 so I know what Im doing. And every time I add new fish I monitor the water for 2 weeks. The fish died within a week and I couldnt do anything about getting new ones because of their stupid 24 hour policy. Id rather shop at petco or pet smart where I know Ill be taken care of and I know Ill get new fish if they die within a few weeks. Save your money and shop somewhere else. Wont waste my time or money here again!

Pet Zone is by far the best fish store in San Diego! Ive been to both locations, City Heights and Kearny Mesa! Every time I have gone to Pet Zone they greet me at the door! They have an excellent selection and variety of fish! I have bought every fish in my aquarium from Pet Zone, including my Arowana, Redtail Catfish, and Tiger Shovelnose and every fish is still healthy and happy! I go to Pet Zone at least twice a week and each time they have made me happy with new fish and excell customer service!

I bought a Jardini arrowana from them online back in October 2016 and i contacted them and told them the fish died 2 days later due to the poor condition that the fish was in. The fish would not eat anything. I tried pellets, flakes, dried bloodworms and frozen bloodworms but the jardini would not eat anything. They responded and told me to contact them back in 1 month when they had more available. I contacted them exactly one month later and they said they can not do anything for me due to fish death. I will never buy anything from this company again. Poor customer service and bad company to deal with. Buy from this company at your own risk. 8 months later i am still upset over this disgusting and poor experience with this company. If i could give negative stars i would. I buy all my fish from other companies online now and havent had a problem with those other companies.

Was just in yesterday and they have very clean tanks with very healthy fish. Of all the stores my wife and I have been to in the San Diego area, this one had the cleanest tanks overall. Not a single dead/dying fish in the entire store. Not an easy feat for any busy store. They have a great selection of Cichlids and seem to specialize in Flowerhorns and Red Dragons and had a ton to choose from. Picked up a nice decent sized Chocolate pleco for a very fair price of only $15. A great indicator of this stores expertise is the preferred PH of each species was right on the tanks, to help people not mix the wrong kind of fish in the wrong PH water. I cant remember seeing that at any other fish store Ive been to and I was impressed. Little warning, the neighborhood looks a little rough, but everyone we encountered was friendly. So dont let that stop you from going to a great little fish store.

Been a week since I bought a nice 5.5in delhezi bichir from here and hes been doing extremely well! They had many bichirs and a few extremely gorgeous endlicheri bichirs as well, but I preffer the cuter upper-jaw bichirs. Very reasonable prices for the bichirs size and hes beautiful compared to some other LFS. All the fish here seemed very healthy. It gets along well with my sengal bichir even thou my other is much smaller, very peaceful fish. This store has a nice variety of cool big fish if thats what your in to such as plecos, arowanas, bichirs, and the couple who own it are the nicest folks!

PetZone San Diego, my go to local fish store. They have a nice selection of bettas from halfmoon to plakat. The nice ones are kept in storage so ask ma or pa to see them. They are nice peoples, just ask them anything and theyll provide you with the accurate information you need. Prices are fair. Go check them out!

Petzone is my number one place to get large tropical fish such as arowanas. All the fish in the tanks were very healthy unlike the ones in a petco or petsmart. This is the only store that was selling freshwater moray eels. This is my go-to whenever I want to get a large carnivorous fish.Thank you Petzone
