Great place, large selection. Didnt have alot of time, still found what I needed. Will be back to further unload them of some of their apparel. Bought shoes, and a couple of pairs of jeans for a great price.
The staff is Nothing like the PB location. The Hillcrest staff is Incredibly Rude, The dressing room gal was so passive and the Front Desk girl was so rough with my Satin dress and helped the person trying to sell over the phone our entire interaction. She didnt give me my Token or Offer. She was so so Rude. Ugh.They have the Best staff in PB its worth the drive
This particular store is only a good experience if you live in the area. I live in Chula Vista and had an appointment to sell clothes. My first issue is totally not there fault, it’s the parking (they should totally account for that though). My second issue is that the staff is so chill and casual and than have strict policy enforcement, I.e. waiting in line until you’re late for you’re appt and than being told they can’t accommodate you. Whatever BE I’ll just donate it like I’m sure everybody else does since you already have enough things to sell and you don’t need mine. 2 stars because I have had better experiences in the past 7 years.
I absolutely LOVE this store. The staff is exceptionally friendly and made me feel welcome. I had a fantastic experience with one of the staff, Acacia. Her attitude and customer service skills are amazing.
Awesome clothing pretty good prices. Only bad thing was the Mask Natzi literally followed me around saying mask over your nose like 20x super annoying
Helpful staff, friendly environment, and fair prices!
Really nice selection, staff was helpful and nice too! Yes prices are more than a traditional thrift store but traditional thrift stores get donations, places like this buy clothes from people so its only logical theyre going to cost a little more. Really nice quality stuff though and some great brands! Store is clean and well organized too. Ill definitely be back
This place isnt that great. Overpriced. It though it is nice that you can sell your clothes here, it is not worth it. Youre better off selling on Depop.
I’ve been wanted to check out this location. I also manage a consignment store. I like to network and since we send alot of our customers to buffalo exchange if their items don’t match our assortment, I was interested in seeing it.I walked around and they had cute and very reasonably priced items. They guy at the fitting rooms was extremely friendly. I found stuff I liked that my store doesn’t sell so Ia bought them. The cashier was lovely. I could hear a woman in the buying area giving her team direction for the day. She had an abrasive vibe. I asked the cashier if she was the manager and she sad yes. There were two I guess. I approached the one with lighter hair. The other had dark hair and tattoos and I wish I had interacted with her.Anyone would have been better than this rude poor existence of a human being. I introduced myself, I said I managed a consignment store, I tired to ask how she finds her intake/buyers (my store is in need of one) and before I could say anything else she snapped at me like I wanted one of her employees. I tried to say I was just curious if she had alot of walk-ins or maybe a source she used.Professional people exchange that information. And I’m not a competitor. My store is a completely different client and format. I was so insulted I froze in disbelief and then walked out. I rarely write reviews but because of her I will never recommend her location to anyone I know, any of my customers, nada!
2nd to none the best place for the best clothes at the best prices .
So I took in 4 never worn, tags still on shirts that i bought over 3 months ago so I couldnt take back to Macys for a refund so I went to Buffalo Exchange hoping to get a decent price for all 4 shirts. Well the woman who seemed like she was in charge took the shirts off out of the garment bag and off the hangers and looked at them, then she called me over and let me know that I was in luck because she was going to buy all 4 shirts! I thought cool, Ill get a good price for them.....she offered me $35 for all four shirts and I almost laughed and politely declined her offer and she was taken aback that I would t accept her generous offer for nearly $500 of clothing so she threw the shirts back on the counter for me to put back on the hangers and in my bag and angrily tore up the tickets she had already written up as if it were a done deal and stormed off. I get it that Im not going to get what I paid for them but seriously dont insult me either. I ended up donating all of them to the Goodwill! Suck it buffalo Exchange!
Very expensive for a use clothing store,
Great selection
Fitting rooms are closed you are still able to buy and sell, you can return items you purchase within 10 days since dressing rooms are not open. Was less busy than usual when I stopped in Sunday morning.
I usually dont come here from having negative interactions with staff in the past. however today I was desperate for a jacket and this place was the closet option. and surprisingly I found not one but two jackets that I think will do nicely the winter.
What a bunch of lying, possibly thieving, cheapskates. My roommate and I called in advance to find out if there were any restrictions with donations - they said no, just that they wait 24 hours to go through your items now and pay you via Venmo. Cool so she and I put together a HUGE box which I took in - only to be told there is a 50 item limit and payment is via PayPal - grrrrr. Finally management agreed to make an exception since it was two closets and we had been misinformed. After 24 hours we get a call saying that NOTHING was suitable for their inventory which I promise you is B.S. 90% of my roommates clothes is hippie/hipster/festival wear - which is their whole business model and I had several like new items (sweaters than shrunk after one wash, shoes bought online that were a half size too big/small) that scream millennial. I dont know if they just didnt bother to go through it or if the employees are just stealing the good stuff for themselves but trust me save your time and just give to friends, family or charity yourself. (P.s. I have sold things to them in the past which is what makes this experience so frustrating. Especially since the things I sold before were not even as good of quality as what I attempted to sell this time).
Expensive and clothes were dirty
They have a lot of rad clothes, shoes, and accessories. If youre selling type clothes to buffalo exchange make sure they are relevant for the upcoming season (tanks and shorts for summer, coats and boots for winter) other wise theres a high chance youll get VERY little when selling your clothes. They do have a donation bin you can donate the clothes that they dont buy. Which is helpful if you dont want to tote them back to your car.The items for sale are a bit price but you can usually find a couple of reasonably priced things.
If youre going to this location (Fifth Ave) to sell/trade...I personally dont recommend it. This is the second time Ive gone to this one with a couple bags of clothing in good condition and all in season, only to be told This isnt what were looking for. Apparently dresses, skirts & tank tops arent summer attire? I recommend going to the Pacific Beach location. Parking is usually better, prices are better, and they seem to actually stick to their own rule of selling/trading in season clothing.Aside from that, the staff was at least nice this time. But from now on Im only going to the Pacific Beach location.
Pretty good selection of current trends plus unusual, off-the-beaten-path stuff for pretty reasonable prices. Theyre definitely picky about what they accept if you come in to trade or sell, which sucks if youre trying to unload your crappy old wardrobe, but winds up working out in your favor when it comes time to build it up again. Sometimes theres a weird vibe in here that I dont really dig and cant put my finger on, so its not quite a five star experience, but maybe thats just me. Strictly speaking on fashion and value, though, its a keeper. And I like this location better than the PB one for sure.
Friendly staff and a nice bench to wait on for selling stuff. Parking can be tough but if you go around the block to 4th Street theres usually some spots. Bring money for the meter if its before 8pm. Generous credit or some cash for your stuff if it fits into their collections. Important note: this is not Goodwill.
I like the thrill of finding a treasure here. Its a nice and clean store that youd like to spend time finding a good deal. Not all of the clothes and accessories are used, there are some that are new and never been worn. Dont forget to bring a reusable bag, by turning down a plastic bag - you can donate 5 cents to a foundation of your choice.
To be honest, I never like Buffalo Exchange. They want your brand new clothes, not hand down clothes..(If i attempted to take my clothes to dry cleanings and I still get pay less in-store than what i pay for dry cleanings. Rip-offs)I tried to exchange one pant that is alike but mine is size smaller and their pant is little paint on it. and would not exchange it. I didnt pay attention the size when I purchased it. The manager will not made exchanged and literally screamed in the store to scare me away.and She definitely did.***Beside to exchange clothes processing, they is almost like cooler than thrift store. That is all.
We only go when there is a sale, but love the clothes. Staff is very helpful.
This store wont take your stuff if youre black..so disappointed. Happens a few times with me and my friends . The funny part of is that the clothes they didnt take because they were not in season..they took it from the next person. The said they didnt want forever 21, h and m ..blah blah..fine we had a brand new dress from New york and co and they didnt take it. We even had some Levis and other in trend stuff.. so disappointed!! So we took it to Platos closet and they brought some..boohoo!
After they didn’t take any of my stuff, I asked if they could hang on to my two giant heavy bags while I looked around the store. She said they’re were a couple chairs around the store I could put them on. Obviously if I did that it would look like they belong to the store and I’m not going to walk around with giant bags in my hands. I immediately walked out. Awful customer service. I’ve worked in retail for 5 years and obviously had high quality items as well
First time there and its like shopping at a second hand store but more contemporary and trendy feeling. Great selections, prices, and the staff is super cool. And they even take Tap & Pay. How cutting edge. ☺️
A lot of really nice and fun stuff. Kind of pricey but Friendly staff. Just wish they would have took something that I tried to sell, LOL. There were a lot of nice stuff in my bag, some never worn. Maybe because Im more of a fuller-figured woman, sized 16, I dont think they service the plus sized population. I also drove a little distance after I was referred to them. But hey, seasons are seasons right?
Snobby! I think they threw my clothes away after i left. If you dont look a certain way then you can forget about selling to them. Poor customer service to people of color. They sometimes have nice skirts and dresses. Very expensive for a thrift store. Nice store minus the people that work there 😀🤷🏿♀️
I had a great experience at Buffalo Exchange. I thought all the customer sales people were great. They didnt take all of my clothing, but its up to their discretion what sells and doesnt in any given season. I also looked at their web-site to see what they actually needed right now, and thats what I brought in. My daughter and I each found a couple of items to purchase also which made for a pretty good trade. Im giving it 4 stars because of the parking situation--ugh, but in any city, thats what youll find.
Love this store! down to earth, can find absolutely everything! They even have plus size clothes ( wish they would give plus size there own section of the store) But other then that just fantastic!
Great selection of clothes for sale, have been shopping and exchanging at these stores for two decades. Heres what you can expect: brand new Levi jeans=$5 in cash.I prefer exchanging because they give you more credit.
While there is nothing heinously wrong with Buffalo Exchange, I find the clothes to be a little pricier than I would be willing to pay for second hand items. The staff are very friendly and helpful and can offer you fashion advice if you ask for it.The store also sells lightly used shoes, hats, bags, costumes and other accessories. If you are going with the intention of selling your old clothes, know that they are very picky and will only take things that are either a) unique/vintage or b) fashionably desirable, ie; items in vogue.
Almost everything I wear I buy at this place! Its a very cool store, with a great personality about it! They have a friendly helpful staff, the best selection of slightly loved and new clothing, shoes, hats, bags and accessories at a price that so have you looking and feeling rich... I give Buffalo Two Big Thumbs Up !!!
Not horrible neither remarkable. I like buying below occasionally. Offering can be complicated however if youre willing to hold and wait, I recommend taking your clothing a couple of times if as well as when practical yet do not rely on your assumptions. When I had a lady (she was worn a style nova hip jump design) deny my clothing but I waited 2 weeks as well as a charming hipster lady purchased all the pieces I initially took as well as she informed me I had fantastic taste! Like I stated, do not financial institution on it yet maintain your garments all set to sell!Oh yeah ... car parking DRAWS so go early on a time off due to the fact that if youre marketing, you require to have primo vehicle parking otherwise youll be hindering around with your garments like you will go across the border. There is a Riteaid with a public parking area however youll end up costs excessive money.
I always find stuff in my size here. The workers are super friendly and they all remember me. The prices are decent. The parking is so-so. I shop there almost every week!
Sold my friend a cheaply made pleather jacket for 25$ that is literally disintegrating and shredding apart. From the reviews it seems that they call this “vintage” and won’t refund us. Such a disappointment. I’ve bought genuine leather jackets for the same price at thrift stores. But they think it’s ok to sell a pleather jacket of a Walmart brand that was probably only 30$ new for 25$
I actually sell way more clothes here than I buy. I find their service to be quick with decent prices. The buyers are quite knowledgeable and are very willing to say what is selling so I can get top dollar.
This is one of my favorite buffalo exchanges. There will be a lot of surf brand clothes due to its proximity to a surfing community. Great stuff and great duds! Worth a gander every so often.
They have a great selection but their clothes are very overpriced for being used might as well be regular retail at this point!
My favorite thing to do is find great pieces if clothes while thrift shopping. Although my strategy is ultimately a timing-consuming process, if Im feeling a quick fix then I mosey on down to the Buffalo Exchange. There my exploration is practically non-existent because I believe that almost every article of clothing in there has something special about it. I think about the stories these pieces would tell had they the voice to tell it with and thats why the Buffalo Exchange is more than just a used clothes store to me!
I enjoy going to the Buffalo Exchange and checking out their shoes. There are alot and all quite unique in there own way. They also have unique t shirts.
Theres a nice variety in this store. The staff is friendly and the store is a good size as well. I got a decent amount of store credit with some clothes I brought in as well
I am an avid thrifter and rarely buy new clothing, or new/used clothing at boutique prices. Buffalo Exchange is my one exception. I almost always walk out with something treasured at a low cost. I have found great quality, designer brand shoes at affordable prices, and vintage dresses that have been altered to my exact liking. Most of the time they also carry a whole rack of large and extra large sizes, which is appreciated.I love and support their quest to eliminate plastic bags, and have always enjoyed their token system for gifting a non-profit or environmental cause in lieu of using a bag. They also have the option of reselling your worn items for credit or cash, however it is a complete toss up as the outcome usually depends on the unique taste of the Buyer. You may have better luck selling your worn clothing online, as it is very inconsistent. Some times I have tons of items they want, other times nothing. It is still a good option if you like to rotate your wardrobe out throughout the year and are looking to make something out of it before throwing it in a yard sale or donation.
You can actually get some pretty nice things here, but it will cost you more than the usual thrift store. Ive had friends pick up designer things like Tokidoki bags. Good place to get in-style, in-season clothing.
Should have read the comments prior to coming to this place, very poor service, pretentious staff with no fashion sense whatsoever. Dont waste your time or money folks at this location.
DONT EVER SELL YOUR CLOTHES AT THIS LOCATION!!! UNLESS YOU WATCH EVER PIECE OF YOUR ITEMS!! I WAS VISITING OUT OF TOWN AND THE WHITE GIRL WITH THE LONG NOSE THAT LOOKS LIKE A WANT TO BE TAYLOR SWIFT STOLE 4 OF MY ITEMS. SHE WAS BEING TALKATIVE TO THROW ME OFF WHILE SHE PRETEND LIKE SHE WAS PUTTING ITEMS IN MY BAG! WHEN I WENT HOME TO CHECK MY BAGS THE ITEMS WERE NOT THERE. ITS SAD BECAUSE I THOUGHT SHE WAS SUPER FRIENDLY BUT THAT WAS A FRONT TO THROW ME OFF AND STEAL ITEMS FROM ME. THIS WILL CAUGHT UP TO YOU SOMEDAY!!!! I WILL BE LETTING MY NEIGHBORHOOD, FRIENDS, CO WORKERS, AND FAMILY KNOW MY EXPERIENCE AT THIS LOCATION!!!! 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
I don’t like their customer service rude
I love Buffalo Exchange in Hillcrest, my dresser is full of their clothes. Their staff is the best! JEN was awesome. Ive bought 8 pairs of shorts here in the last 6 weeks for good prices.
This is supposed to be a thrift shop where you can sell & exchange your used clothes, however everything is super expensive! A pair of shorts (jeans) $18 dollars and they arent even brand. At the thrift shops I go to I can get a pair of citizens of humanity for under $8. Everything they have is overly priced, and brands that seem chinese, I recommend to stray away if you are a smart shopper like I am.
Great place to pick up some discount swag. Theyve got a whole rack dedicated to ugly Christmas sweaters right now with tons of options. You get a token to donate 5 cents to a charity if you dont use a bag!
Great selection of clothes! Lots of name brands for good prices.
Way over priced
I disliked this place, the employees were unfriendly and even though i brought a large bag of clothes that never been worn and some that were fairly new with the tag on they still refused to buy or exchange any of the items. I find it hard to believe they know every customers taste in clothes to refuse such a large selection. In fact there was no selection at all unless your a hipster who is trendy and cant chose clothes for themselves and actually be unique like the store falsely promotes then this might be the store for you....
The people there aren’t the nicest. There’s one lady who’s super chill but the Manager got mad because my dog who’s in the process of becoming a service dog put his paw on some woman’s dog pants. Also the prices are ridiculous, $30 for a pair of Pants I can get at goodwill for $8 is Ridiculous....
Great selection and quality. Their buying standards seem arbitrary.
Good selection of used and like new items. Some of the shoes seemed never worn. Prices vary from cheap to fair to a Lil high, but the selection is great, for men or women. They also have hats, bags, jewlery, patches and pins, as well as some kitch items. Staff is friendly, great spot to browse. Some really nice items, great spot to find new wardrobe items.
Best place in San Diego to find the best Vintage the prices are great and the staff is always warm and welcoming my favorite Buffalo Exchange.
I frequently sell at many buffalo exchange locations. I paid 2$ to park and bought 7 garbage bags full of clothes and the girl didn’t buy a single item. It was a waste of my time and I will never do business with this store ever again. I had a few items that were new with tags and some items that sold on eBay instantly. I felt the buyer was unfriendly and judgmental towards me. The buyer was also dressed in plain clothes and didn’t seem to like fashion.
They are to picky with the clothes they buy and make it clearly you are not welcome if you dont dress a particular way. The worst buffalo exchange I have gone to. A good thing may be they have nice clothes, but they are way to expensive for a thrift shop. Never going back again.
This was a fun and interesting store! They have a lot to offer, with great deals. Some of the quality was no up to par, so I wouldnt personally shop their often, but great concept.
It has a nice selection, but the prices are higher than I am willing to pay at a thrift store. I have found similar styles for less at stores like Forever 21 and Ross.
Dont waste time or money in the parking lot
Pretty good selection, but some of the clothes are starting to get a bit more generic/branded. I like when they have more of a variety of “weird”, eclectic stuff.
Great Selection and prices
Good for 2nd hand shopping, not selling. They rarely buy anything Ive ever brought. I end up donating it all.
A combination of a diverse selection of clothing, along with good pricing and a helpful and stylish staff make Buffalo Exchange seem more like a high end retail store than a thrift shop; the donation boxes are also a very good alternative to giving out plastic bags.
This place is great! Friendly, genuine staff and some awesome items. It is no your average thrift store, and you will not find less than quality items in here. Some things may cost a bit more, but it is because they are worth it! Style isnt cheap. :-)Found a pair of colorful high top Nikes for my boyfriend last year- they look like thy have a tv test pattern on the side- amazing find, got them for $30! Thanks for the like new $150 shoes at a fantastic price!I have purchased dresses here and never am disappointed. Fun to browse too, and always fun to bring in your own old clothes for cash or credit.
Its a nice little place to come in and look but they dont carry plus size so its kind of a bummer. Cute shoes and accessories, though.
Why did I see a faded shirt for $35?? I hate thrift shop that are expensive for no reason. I could but 2 new shirt for that price or less.
This location is pretty busy and has a great turn over in product. If you like something, get it, or it will be gone gone gone!
Its a whole lot better than your average thrift shop. The quality of clothes and prices are amazing.
Love coming here. Great prices for really good clothing!
Always a great place to shop
Whats the point of calling it a thrift store when their picky about clothes and reject your clothes you want to get rid of because theyre not in trend. Other than that, most clothes are pretty cheap.
Ok selection at this store. The store is a little small because of its location. Prices seem to be higher than other BEs.
Pretentious thrift store, overpriced selection. Wasnt impressed.
Brought lots of clothes and the chick didnt even take a look at them and said no to the few bags she checked. The person in front of me had good leather jackets and good shoes and didnt take them either. I just wasted my time and gas. Not worth it. If you want to get rid of clothes just donate them.
They take only some of your clothes that is in style and pay you 30 percent of what they sell it for..Good deal tho
You can sometimes find amazing deals. I got a $110 jacket that still had tags on it for 15 bucks!
RIP Buffalo Exchange Hillcrest. This place used to be legit but now it seems its crammed one part of its body very far up another part of its body. Reading the other reviews here actually answered a lot of my complaints Im about to address. This place used to be a good spot to find a piece of vintage for a legit price, but over the past few months their prices have been climbing to levels of insane stupidity. Its a thrift store! I recently went in and saw price tags for pieces around $50-60... for damaged and stained pieces now marked vintage that were going to take more than a stitch or a simple wash to make decent. I even picked up one piece once that was - I kid you not - the funkiest smelling piece of anything Ive ever touched in my life. I got into the dressing room and wanted to die. It was a bewilderingly horrid smell. I brought it to the front and told them to take a whiff because it was deadly disgusting and they just took it and hung it on a hook, and a few weeks later I found it back in the racks!! GROSSSSS. So yeah, thats what youre paying for now at a thrift store, smelly, stained, damaged old clothes for mad money simply because theyre now marking them vintage. I now understand how it happens though with all the girls here who say they bring their clothes in to sell and the buyers dont even glance at it. How do they miss all the funky damage and then try to put high prices on it? Maybe theyre trying to keep up with the online sellers? But to be real, save your pennies for the online sellers on Etsy or whatnot. Their vintage is clean, in great shape, and at prices competitive with this, again, thriffffttt store. I have to laugh because Ive been priced out of affording a thrift store. Good job chasing away longtime customers. What a joke. (A stinky, stained, tacky joke.)
Cute clothes but super overpriced. Like its ridiculous that they sell worn out shoes for $25+ Honestly, I rather donate the stuff then take it here. Staff was also a little rude.....
This place has some unique fashions, but the quality of the clothes are definitely not worth the price. You might find a few good deals here, but dont make it a store to buy clothes at regularly.
Great selection of items, friendly and helpful staff, clean and they do a good job of ensuring the items are in good condition. Parking is a challenge in this area of town,.
I want an error with all top-of-the-line stuff name brand in near-perfect condition a couple of issues that were like two times and they refused everything and acted like I was not good enough to be in their store
They would not take my buffalo, but I did walk out with some snazzy jeans
My favorite thrift shop for great out of the ordinary clothing and unique things
Good store. Good clothes. Decent prices bordering on expensive
Hunting for clothes at Buffalo is fab, probably because theyre super picky about what they take. In the market for new jeans, designer, marked down 95% off because some other beezy wore them for a season -- well youre in luck! Theyre probably here. And although buying shoes at the Buff kind of grosses me out, because feet, anything I can throw in the washing machine is fair game. Go, hunt, and be merry. Just dont expect you can come in with 8 bags of donation goods and expect them to get jazzed about your A&F tank tops from 1992 -- theyre not taking them.
Shopping here is great, selling here is *alright*, but the prices can get pretty outrageous and the staff arent particularly the warmest. Love the clothes, not a fan of the vibes
Went in couple yrs ago...had new boots, + never worn Levis, which I had store receipt w me, listed at $29.99!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!! THEY WOULDNT GIVE ME A PENNY FOR!!!! W H Y ?? Seen hi priced junk on rack outside. ( I wouldnt buy that at a thrift store )
They only accept clothes that r of the season...makes sense but they say on their website any undamaged washed clothes...and it was the season for pants sweaters pladded shirts button downs a dress vest and much more...and still didnt take anything. Probably donate to the homless population at least the satisfaction wil be there
All they want are new clothes... dont waste ur time
Gotta love buffalo exchange. This one is excellent
Good experienceGood selection great prices
Cool place ~ my daughter and I found some neat things to suit each of our taste
