I have heard Sidecar Doughnuts has been a lot of people’s favorites, but I’ve never got a chance to try. Luckily, my friends bought two donuts for me as a gift! The box is beautiful. When I received it, I couldn’t wait and just opened it in front of her. You know once I opened it, I couldn’t leave my eyes off from them, I had to try these two beautiful beautiful donuts! They are my friend’s personal favorite flavors - huckleberry and Apple pie. Both are amazingly delicious!!! Soft, flavorful, not over sweet. I have to say, people love their donuts for a reason, and you will join in the fan club once you take a bite.

Love sidecar. Their gluten free donut is always fire. Their vegan is as well gluten free but not quite as good. Always stop by when I’m around.

I dont even want to tell you how good this place is because I want all the donuts for myself. Not cheap but well worth the price.

Listed as best donuts in California and man did they deliver. Tried the salted malted cookie donut that was a collaboration with salt n straw. Man it was impressive, cookie dough and a donut who knew.

Artisan doughnuts and coffee! Whats not to love? What caught my eye are the Basil Eggs Benedict doughnuts. I have seen a few other places have doughnuts like these on the menu, but Ive never been too impressed with them. I can say with confidence though that theyre the best thing on this menu! The basil is super fresh, the sauce is perfect, egg is solid with a semi runny yolk, and omg the dough! A delicious melody of sweet and savory that holds the entire doughnut together!All the other offerings are high end twists on classic flavors. The doughnuts are dense but not heavy! Totally a place to try out if youre into the doughnut scene!

If youre reading reviews and trying to decide if you should check this place out then you have waited a bit too long and continuing to do yourself an injustice!! I couldnt try all of them the first time even though I would have loved to so I settled for the Choc-A-Lot and the Apple Fritter. They were both excellent and with the yelp offer I got myself a nice coffee too! I love the fact that they have a relatively small selection which doesnt overwhelm you. Quality trumps Quantity! Cant wait to try out the remaining flavors. True happiness during the pandemic ;)

The hype is earned. If youre going to indulge in a donut, Sidecar donuts are worth it! My extraordinarily picky husband loved his seasonal special Gingerbread and Poached Pears and I thoroughly enjoyed my Choc-a-lot.

Easily the best donut shop in san diego. Better than copper top, donut bar, devils dozen, or nomad. Has the best flavors and each donut is very fresh. The favorites like huckleberry are delicious and are a must.Dont bother looking any further, this is the best place to go to.

Holy moly! Out of this stratosphere warm, thick, fluffy, chocolate chocolate donut with crispy little crunchy things that should be illegal perhaps. The coffee was good and the service was great. Im cursed now that I know this place exists!!

I posted about Sidecar before. We went back with my son and his girlfriend. Both they and my wife loved it! I cant partake because even though they have a gluten-free version they use the same frying oil, so I just have to live vicariously through their enjoyment of these amazing donuts 😊

New place to Del Mar area, and next to my work place. They have specialty donuts and some regular ones. I only came for the donuts. The strawberry cream cheese was my favorite, it’s like dessert for breakfast! The huckleberry one was good too. Loved it. All the donuts were delicious! Most donuts were around $3-5, kind of pricey but the quality shows.

Eggs benedict donut is BOMB. i thought i was gonna be underwhelmed, but the egg was really well done and its flavors were excellent. another favorite is the huckleberry. my cousins liked the butter+salt donut and the cookie dough donut :)

These donuts are amazingly yummy! I never eat chocolate donuts from any other stores because they are just so sweet and make my teeth ache! But I love the chocolate from Sidecar! The dough is just perfect in texture, fluffy and yet slightly dense, covered with good quality chocolate. All the donuts are not overly sweet! Our favorites are: chocolate, butter and sea salt, huckleberry (can really taste the berry with every bite), and lastly, maple bacon. Donuts are still warm if you sit and eat in the shopping center.

Might just be the best donut Ive ever had, but it comes at a not small price. It was absolutely worth the trip and treating yourself. You cant compare this place to Krispy Kreme or your favorite local place because it doesnt compare. Its 2.5x more but also that much better.

My all time favorite doughnuts! Butter and Salt fresh out of the fryer is the best doughnut Ive ever had. Eggs Benedict is also a very good and interesting doughnut. Seasonal flavors are usually very good too. I still think about the everything but turkey doughnut sometimes.

I wish these donuts weren’t so delicious. They’re perfect- fresh, warm, and decadent without being too heavy. I love that they’re making donuts all day long ensuring that your treat is fresh (& worth all of the calories) and it smells like how I imagine heaven will smell.The staff is always nice & even with a long line it moves quick. Surprisingly, their coffee is very tasty. My favorites include butter/salt & cinnamon crumb. I prefer their cake donuts to the yeast donuts.

Best donuts I’ve ever had. Huckleberry was my favorite. They were light and fluffy and so fresh and none of them were overwhelmingly sweet. A definite must visit if you’re in San Diego!

0 stars isn’t an option. I was charged for an order that was not picked up. I called multiple times over 3 days and left multiple messages trying to cancel immediately after the accidental order was made. No response from side car. But they were happy to charge me and take my money.

Wow! The huckleberry donuts were fresh out of the fryer.... so good!! The vanilla ring donuts were light and had a subtle vanilla flavor that was fantastic! The iced coffee is also terrific. Very friendly and helpful staff as well.

Edit: moving from 5->4 (maybe 3.5) after going a few times. Donuts often leave a weird aftertaste and are $5 each..Definitely some of the best cake donuts Ive had. The butter and salt I had fresh out of the oven and melted in your mouth (but had a slightly fake butter taste is my only complaint). Also had the cinnamon which was delish. Lots of other flavors to try so well be back. Two tables outside to sit and some counter space inside but definitely more a grab-and-go spot.

Delicious gourmet donuts. Not deep fried greasy. Donut is dense but not like cake. Frosting is crispy. Donut had actual huckleberry. Definitely worth trying!

Take it from someone who loves donuts and has traveled far and wide to get my hands on any donut I that might be good. These are hands down some of the best donuts ever.

Rung my order up correctly but gave me two iced matchas w milk I didn’t ask for barista apologized and reassured me she’d remake them but what I got back was overly water-downed matcha that taste like nothing but water I can barely taste any matcha let alone any whole milk.

Love that Sidecar Donuts and Coffee is in the area now! Heard a lot about them so I made a special trip to get some donuts. Glad I did because I think this is my new favorite gourmet donut place in San Diego. We got 4 specialty donuts, an Old Fashion, a pineapple & basil, a pop tart type donut, and a Basil Eggs Benedict donut. The Basil Eggs Benedict donut was my favorite as it was more of a meal and tasted great!! Its a Masala style donut filled with a poached eggs, ham, and a house made basil hollandaise sauce. So good!!! Everything tasted fresh too which is nice. Highly recommend!! Will definitely be back!!

If you’re in Costa Mesa would say this is a must go. The donuts are the best I’ve ever had, hands down. I try to make it every time I’m in town.

I very much get the hype! I appreciate the flavor combos and texture of every donut I got on my very first visit to Sidecar. They were fresh and delicious even on day two of taking them home.Some of my favorite flavors are:- Saigon Cinnamon Crumb - crumb texture is very similar to coffee cake; can eat these nonstop- Huckleberry - berry forward- Vanilla Bean Glazed - my favorite type of donut is glazed, so the vanilla flavor on this is a nice touch- Butter + Salt - rich but not overly so; tastes like gourmet cake doughnutThey were so helpful here too with the selections. Would definitely come back next time Im in the area, which I will make sure to be soon!

Yikes! This review isnt about the doughnuts, but the unethical and dishonest behavior of one of the employees. My family and I visited Sidecar today and we made two separate purchases. My family members checked out first and walked out the store in excitement. Once they were gone, I saw the employee who was helping me reach over and add a 20% tip to their purchase because my family member forgot to hit complete at the end of their transaction. I was completely shocked by this behavior. Its not about the money but the principal. I love their doughnuts but this employee needs to be reprimanded. She is stealing from customers and making unauthorized use of our credit cards!

Amazing doughnut place! Only tried the butter and salt and it wasnt bad at all. There wasnt this heavy taste like you get with Krispy Kreme. Depending on when you go there might be a long line but it went by pretty quickly.

Some super creative flavors and a premium takes on the classics. Definitely pricier than traditional donut shops, but worth the price if this is what you are looking for. Also super cute atmosphere and incredibly friendly staff.

The best doughnut shop Ive ever been to. The doughnuts are so fresh and the flavors are amazing.

To date, they are the best doughnuts that Ive ever had. The flavor does not come from lots of sugar like doughnuts from the national chains. Rather, the flavor comes from the quality ingredients. Ive had about 4 flavors and they were all delicious but Vanilla Bean is my favorite because it has just the right amount of sugar.

Their doughnuts are frighteningly expensive, but take one bite and you’ll instantly know why!

There is a reason this place has all the recognition. The doughnuts at Sidecar are so fresh and good. Other than the cookie dough one I got, which personally was an overindulgence they were perfectly balanced in sweetness to cake ratio.

These donuts are good, please open up a store closer to Chula Vista.

I really wanted to love these donuts. I love the idea of gourmet donuts. It is all so cute and they have delicious sounding flavors.Our main thought about this place, is that we would not return or recommend them.The Huckleberry had a strange aftertaste; artificial or plastic-like. And it wasnt anything special to begin with. The Old Fashioned was the same only with less taste. They are also a different texture than cake donuts, but not one we liked. We do love unique and natural tastes. Maybe we expected too much?The Eggnog Brûlée was pretty good. I dont usually like raised donuts. This had a nice texture and taste. But then again, the unpleasant aftertaste. So overall, not worth it.

@ $25 for a half dozen, i would expect them to be at least as good as krispy kreme. They werent even close.Light and fluffy? No, heavy heavy heavy

Im no connoisseur of fine food, however, I would say I know my way around a donut shop.I had to try as many as I could (which was 6). BDay Cake came out on top with the Butter and Salt a very close second, and the Huckleberry third to round out the top 3.The GF options are impossible to distinguish. So amazing!Well done Sidecar, you guys rock!Apart from the food, the layout was unique and fun; classy. Wonderful hospitality, clean space and the coffee is delicious as well.

Theres a large daily variety with certain specialty flavors available on certain days. The doughnuts are made fresh and should be eaten within an hour or so. They wont be good much later after purchase.

Usually I find cake donuts to be dry and unimpressive, but the cinnamon cake donut tasted like a churro, and the lemon cake donut was like an incredible moist lemon cake! I also really liked the choc o lot, though my husband didnt like that it wasnt very sweet. It was pretty subtle. We both thought the passionfruit donut was unbelievable. Maple bacon was good, but nothing to write home about.

The best doughnut place Ive had in San Diego (and Ive had more than my fair share)! They are pricey, but they are delicious and substantive without being heavy -- a real treat. The flavors shine through rather than just sweetness and the doughnuts, as advertised, are incredibly fresh. Worth waiting in line for!

Im a big fan of donuts so when a foodie magazine listed Americas Best donuts by state, naturally I hit ctrl F (California) - Sidecar popped up. Wow, these instagram photos are amazing, I thought. Alright, they were out of the Pavlova passion fruit donut so I bought the original (cant beat the classics) and Julia guided me on my search for the rest.The crunch, fresh butter flavor, light sweetness - it was all perfection. I can tell they have highdemand bc these donuts were fresh at 5pm on a Sunday. And Julia knows her stuff.

If you want really really high quality & fresh donuts, I highly recommend Sidecar!!!! Its a drive for me but its well worth it as I dont have to drive to Costa Mesa! I came here around 3pm on a Sunday afternoon and we ordered a box of donuts. It was really hard to decide because they all looked so great. but I think we ordered 1 of each flavor lol. You will not be sorry. All their donuts are fresh and warm. They have employees making donuts all day, so you know you will get a fresh batch everytime. This is not your typical mom and pop donut shop.Although they encourage you to eat these fresh, I continued to eat them over the next couple of days and they were still great. Definitely be ready to shell out more than your typical donut shop ($3-4 each donut), and they do not have any deals for getting a dozen or anything so youre paying by the item. No seating inside the store itself, and there are some seating outside. You might be packing your donuts to go! Coming back soon!

I enjoyed the butter & salt one and the Saigon cinnamon.Staff was very friendly, the service was quick, and overall I had a great time.While the donuts were delicious, it is pricey. It may not be for sharing around the office, but more as a special treat for you and your friends.Id recommend Sidecar Doughnuts!

Delicious and interesting doughnuts! Its a small store and they can get busy on weekends so plan to wait or try them out during the week. Ive never gotten a doughnut here I didnt like and their Vietnamese iced coffee is delicious.
