This a great Japanese market in SFs Japantown. They carry foods youre not likely to find in a big chain grocery store. Its clean and conveniently located to public transit and other businesses. The aisles may be narrower than big chain grocery stores. They have to be. Rent is too expensive in SF. They carry a good selection of food items. Produce was more limited, mainly to Asian vegetables. Some are organic.
Im a big fan of Japanese foods I love everything theyre selling its make me feel like Im in Japan for real! LolFYI for uni you need to go early morning before noon its the best time because it sold out so fast and sometimes it is long line especially this pandemic time.Come on guys! I highly recommend everyone to shopping here!
A lovely market, great for just getting a couple snacks or for grocery shopping. They have great options for great prices.
The store looks small but its deep and they pack in as many Isles as possible. They have lots of food that is specialty Japanese Cuisine. They dont take SNAP cards (food assistance), so its good to know that a more standard form of payment is needed.
They pack a lot of Japanese groceries in a fairly small space. Their bento and ready-made sushi case is often crowded with shoppers. Best to choose early for better freshness and selection.
Fantastic range of products! Came here to buy Kewpie mayonnaise and could have left with numerous products that caught my eye. The freshly made meals look delicious and there is a great range of drinks, especially alcoholic beverages. Staff were friendly! I will be coming back for sure.
The best place for Japanese groceries. Meat and fish selection is excellent and always super fresh. Grab and go sushi is very reasonable for the quality. They also have a good mix of premium and every day staples.
Great place to pickup fresh sushi . However street parking is not easy.
Has all the japanese related grocery items that you need! ready to eat meals are also great and plentiful in the morning. Come before 1pm so you have a better selection of ready to eat meals.
Small but very well stocked with just about anything you might want to eat or drink.
Its a Japanese Grocery store, the aisles are wide enough. Crowded but most people wore masks. Selection was good. We enjoyed ourselves.
Good selection, of fresh food, snacks, beer, wine basically any Japanese food. Nice workers and decent prices.
Basic Japanese products at the reasonable prices. They have employees who speak Japanese in case you require more information about the product that the description is written in Japanese.
Good place to go if your on d go and gray some good food.
There is 20% off meat day every month on the 29th. When that day lands on a weekend, the store is at maximum capacity. The aisles ate particularly cramped too because the vast amount of items they have. They also have occasional food taste testings on the weekend. My favorite items from this market are the ready made sushi, sashimi, shabu meat, and Japanese snacks.
I love this Japanese supermarket in Japantown, where I can get all sorts of Japanese treats, whether prepared, packaged, or otherwise.Onigiri, miso, chocolate, seaweed, sauces, snacks, veggies, tea, etc.Besides what I got today, it just made feel good to be there.
Nijiya has a lot to offer. They have prepared foods that you can pick up and you can microwave it there. They also have foods that are fresh to make (ie, veggies, ramen, meat, etc) and frozen foods. I like to buy food here to cook and enjoy Japanese food when I dont feel like eating in a restaurant. Highly recommend.
My favorite Japanese store! Best sashimi and sushi and nany other goodies!
Huge selection of Asian food ingredients. The inside of the market is bigger than it looks from the outside. 😊
Great visit. I always make it a stop when I drop by the city. 1 star off for not taking EBT. (Would have had more to spend on)
Easy sushi. Great and not crazy expensive.
Great selections. Sashimi quality is pretty good
Had a really awesome time with my fiance! A must go to!
Outstanding Japanese supermarket! Unagi, Sashimi, shabu shabu, Japanese snacks and condements. Its got it all!
Good place to shop for Japanese grocery.
Good spot to buy lunch, snacks, and other small convenient items. Always walk out with a bagful of stuff so be prepared to spend too.
It was pretty good. I left there feeling fat AND happy!
Lovely market, I go here specifically for things I cannot find else where or that I trust here.
I love coming to nijiya for the specialty Japanese products. Big fan of the pastries. The beef for shabu shabu & sukiyaki are cut to perfection. Beautiful meat products. They have a lot of quick cook ajinomoto products too which have kept me fed for more than 10 years. A good selection or tea too. And they have my instant yakisoba meals that also save my life a lot.
Older building which causes the floor layout to be a bit awkward, but otherwise this is a typical Nikita with the same products you would expect. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. The shelves were well laid out and had English labels for products with japanese labeling.Fresh sushi, fresh Sun ramen packs, great japanese candies and chocolates. Also has Takani mustard greens which when rinsed to remove salt brine, chopped up, cooked in sesame oil with a jalapeno pepper and sesame seeds sprinkled on top after cooking, makes a great crunchy side dish.
Love this place! All the japanese stuffs I need and want in one place!
Some of the best snacks on earth! We spent hundreds mailing them back to our island and it was worth it!
Parking is not a problem. Prices are reasonable.
Nijiya is my go-to store for Japanese grocery needs. I can find almost any Japanese ingredient that I need there, and their prepared food selection is always a good time! My only complaints are that it’s a bit small and cramped, but that’s SF for you. Nijiya can validate your parking if you park in the Japantown garage.
Best place for fresh mushroom varieties.
The place to go for fresh Japanese seafood and grocery.
Lots of great prepared foods and hard to find items.
You always make sure that your customers are happy and very contented! I love buying something at your grocery shop because it was very big and clean. Your staff also helped me thoroughly and I really admire him so much. Thank you so much for your kindness, guys! Highly, highly recommended to everyone!
First time here, but it was a wonderful experience. Lots of great products available. Will be back when I need another stockpile of miso and milk tea
Asian market with a wide variety of everything!! It’s not a large market but there is a lot of variety. I find the prices to be average for a grocery store in San Francisco. The market is clean and well stocked. They do have prepared food that is chilled.During COVID they are limiting the number of people.
I LOVE this store! When I feel like cooking Japanese or stop by to get a quick bite to eat after my day at the spa, (when the spas were open), I can always find what I am looking for. Prices are GREAT too.
I smoked a fat joint with my cousin and brother before looking for cool stores to browse through. Popped into this store and was captivated by all the unique products they had from overseas. Wish I was a local and could shop there!
This shop is my go-to shop for my grocery needs. I really like this place a lot because they had a bit of everything that you needed. The salmon that I bought from this shop was so fresh and affordable as well. The entire place was so clean and smells good. The lady at the counter was so friendly and accommodating. A highly recommended grocery shop.
Sushi there are fresh and delicious!!! Highly recommend!!! Lots of Japanese snacks and frozen food.
Everything one needs for a Japanese meal is here. Fresh ingredients and imports from Japan.
Good place to get sushi grade sashimi fish for do it yourself at home, cheaper for a party
Lots of ready made food, and of course, authentic Japanese stuffs.
Wonderful! We found fresh lychee fruit - yum!
Love this place. They’ve got pre packaged to go sushi that is affordable under $10. Want to make sushi at home? Get your Yellowtail, Salmon, Blue fin tuna and more. The sashimi fish is ready to cut to eat. Lots of Japanese snacks and products you won’t find elsewhere.
Best sashimi fish in town!!!!! Nijiya is one of my favorite markets! I get the fresh cuts of himachi to make sashimi at home! Top notch!
This is the best store for all your Japanese grocery needs, even have bento ready to go. Matsu don, yakisoba, nigiri, kurokke, etc
Lots of nice snacks to buy when visiting Japan town.
Metered masked entry for safety. I was able enter without queueing as there werent many shoppers. Maybe it was the time of day that I went, a few of the items I wanted were sold out.
Price not cheap the quality not best. I know in San Francisco but since now Japanese supermarket not that hard and more option if not neccessary i will choose other to buy. I am talking those fresh food fish other japanese snacks those price not much different if u are in that area some of them still ok to get.
I love coming here for the selection and helpful staff.
Quality products reasonable and pricey but good quality and friendly
Lots of classic Japanese grocery items here. Very crowded. Will validate parking.
Pre made bentos are awesome during covid... grab and go to take to a park and enjoy a picnic
The best little Japanese grocery in SF
I went to this supermarket to buy some ingredients for our dinner later. I was so amazed because this supermarket offers a variety of choices to choose from! I am so satisfied with my purchase because they offer fresh fruits and vegetables!
Havent been here since the pandemic and foot traffic is a lot slower than the height of the norm. Food is great here and my husband and I decided to try the takoyaki. I had the kimchi takoyaki and the acidic note from the kimchi paired really well with the sweet Japanese mayo. My one note, the kimchi was sweeter than expected and didnt have the spicy bite I was looking for. But honestly, a really satisfying bite of food.
Great neighborhood Japanese market, with an incredible variety of Japanese packaged goods, as well as packaged fresh foods, sushi, meat and vegetables
The best Japanese grocery store.
I went to Nijiya Market to buy Haiga Rice. There was a worker in the front dutifully ensuring patrons followed pandemic protocols. Other workers were polite and helpful.
PROs: locationCONs: poor veggie selection, couldnt find anything I was looking for (e.g. wheat starch, tapioca starch), other types of starch were at 2 locations (why!?), some items are not translated in English, some items are way too pricey ($8.50 for white pepper), price/lbs is not written
My favorite store in the city for goto food for any Japanese cuisine. Love making Shabu shabu, the drinks...the drinks...I come home with a lot of drinks! Lol.
Everything was nice and easy! I did my groceries here, and everything was really worth it. This grocery shop really has it all, and it was nice because their staffs are very helpful and attentive. They truly have a vast product selection from meats, poultry, veggies, etc. Indeed, a great place to shop for your grocery needs.
Nice selection and reasonable price.
Decent selection of Japanese foods, but the space is very cramped, and people arent respectful of social distancing.
I LOVE this store so much! Lots of delicious Japanese food 🍭
Place is so cool. Definitely coming back.
This is the only Japanese grocery store that I know of but it seems to be pretty well stocked with Japanese staples and specialties. They make fresh bento boxes/lunch trays that are quite popular-the salmon and tuna sashimi rolls are AWESOME. It is wheelchair accessible and the clerks are helpful and polite.👍👍👍
I was very happy with my latest shopping experience there. There was a good control of how many shoppers there were too protect against COVID. Inside, even though the aisles are very close together, because of how controlled the number of people were inside, didnt ever feel cramped. The selection is great, the staff were helpful, and I left feeling safe and happy.
As an asian-american living in SF, this place has become a cornerstone for my asian grocery needs. Freshly cut sashimi grade fish for you to make sushi or just grab and go. Various cuts of meat for hot pot/korean BBQ that you would never find at a Safeway. I also really appreciate the serious pre-cautions like limiting shoppers to combat Covid.
Good place to buy Japanese food‼
One of the best Asian markets in San Francisco. For the size of this place, there is quite a lot of unique and fairly priced goods that are difficult to find elsewhere. This is usually my one stop shopping spot whenever I want to make Japanese food.
Very clean and polite workers here. Take pandemic measurement serious.
Love getting ingredients for hot pot here! ❤️🙏
Love! I usually buy the fish in the back and its always high quality
Great collection of interesting groceries. Prices are on the stepper side. Buy the Vermont Curry powder and make your own Katsu Curry. They also have a great seafood area that has Octopus and Eels on the regular.
Small but packed with many Japanese inventories. Pricy. Vegetable OK, the take out sushi is just so so but special discount at the end of the day before closing
Extremely (!!) friendly and welcoming. Focus on safety and delicious noms~ A good source for raw fish and a vast selection.
Come here early for all the good sushi and other foods
Great place, good prices.
Very strict protocal. Line up outside. Limited people inside. Wipe down all baskets and carts. Lots of to- go food already gone around 4 pm. No sashimi combos. Its actually nice that its not crowded inside. I like it. Lots of room to move around. Line up for cash registers. If you bring your own bag you have to bag it outside. All in all it probably took 20 to 30 min. From outside to being done. They are exclusive because the item i wanted they are the only store that would sell.
1st time at the market, and overall great store! Store respects social distance rules. Long line, about 15 spots ahead of us, but it moved fast (10-15 min). Store is clean, and well-stocked. The red meats look really fresh, and so does the pre-made sushi. Many japanese snacks to choose from. Prices are fair.
