I own a 2005 Audi A4 I had them redo the heads, timing belt, water pump, camshaft crank and sprocket which came to just under $5,000.00. 7 weeks later it was towed from Vallejo back to the smog shop with a broken camshaft. Now mind you they gave me a 1 year 10,000 mile warranty on the work,but, and here’s the best part, they absolutely unequivocally refuse to honor their own warranty and folks it’s red and I’m sure that a couple of people have seen it before. But any shop I spend that kind of money at you would think they would honor their own warranty and not sell your car because you insist they do

Affordable and quick smog check

Came here for the Free Oil Change for first responders and I was so impressed. I drive a Honda Accord which for some reason requires full synthetic oil and I was totally expecting to pay the additional fees for synthetic but my oil change was 100% free. I really felt appreciated. When I called to make an appointment the person on the phone said just to come by with my badge but there would be a wait. When I showed up I was told they were trying their best to get everyone out ASAP but it would be a 45 minute wait. FORTY FIVE MINUTES?? THATS IT?? Ive been going to Honda for the past seven years and you barely talk to a service rep in 45 minutes. My car was done in 45 minutes as promised! Will definitely spread the word! GREAT SERVICE!

I’ve been bringing my old truck to this shop for years . They’ve replaced a clutch, water pump, starter and done routine maintenance. The Smog shop always has done excellent work and has wonderful staff who give straight forward and honest advise. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Chris and his team go above an beyond to do the best work. I have brought my car in for a variety of maintenance and upgrades over the last couple of years and they always do top notch work. They have never tried to upsell additional, unnecessary services to me.

I started using the Smog Shop when I moved here in 2012 because it was close to my house, but Id probably still be using it even if I moved across the city. They seem to be the most honest car shop Ive ever encountered. They do good work and dont try to force you into making unnecessary repairs. When I needed a new catalytic converter for my Toyota, they called around and saved me hundreds of dollars on a new one. I trust them completely with my car.

Like many reviewers here, I got referred by my mechanic, the legendary Boris Borisoff from Fell & Masonic Chevron.Ive been with Boris for years and years, and trust him implicitly - especially when it comes to burgers.Chris at the Smog Shop is as sharp as they come. But the range of, and personality differences among his mechanics is the makings of a great sitcom.You couldnt do a mechanic shop sitcom without a bunch of mechanics with as diverse personalities as mechanical consistency.Of course, you cant convince anyone to make a media play unless they are doing it themselves already, even though we are in that era and it is wise to write your own show. Even if they are doing it, they dont want to hear your idea, they are off on their own directorial debut.So in two days these guys did seven major chores my care badly needed, never ran into a hitch and kept it positive, looked at obstacles and challenges, and frankly gave me as good a service as you could ask for.I was so glad to write this review - so many businesses out there today are insult added to injury when it comes to kiss and promise products and services.To lend contrast to how good these guys are, let me just say they are the opposite of my experience at the AT&T store in Alameda.Price, quality, service, personality and a big screen TV - The Smog Shop has it all..The LC

Guys were super helpful smogging my older model Ford. Check engine bulb was out which I was easily able to fix myself...Chris saved me $170 by pointing it out and I was able to take it back the next morning and passed with flying colors. Thanks for the prompt service guys!!

Fast and good

I’ve been with The Smog Shop for about 10 years now, taking my cars in for minor and major services. As always, these people take great care of my car. I trust them to save me money where they can, but not take shortcuts that lead to more problems or safety issues down the road. I had new shocks and struts installed about a month ago and could have saved 300 with another shop. But, I did my research and realized the cheaper shop was using less reliable parts. The only difference in price was due to the cost of the parts. I drive my kids and their friends in this car, so I opted for safety and long term reliability. Chris and his team don’t skimp, even when it might cost them business. Their advice and knowledge is solid, trustworthy and reliable.

Man, I have to say this was one of the best experiences I have had in San Francisco! They were super busy, but Scott was doing an unbelievable job getting everyone in and out. I was there less than 30 minutes, thinking I was going to need a replacement of my muffler. They quickly determined it needed a bracket, and I was out of there. I will come back here any time, and recommend it to anyone!! Everyone is so nice, they took me back to show me what was wrong, and didnt make me feel like I was just one of many people to get through. Best shop in SF!

I’ve been using their service for some time, they always provide the best service and best prices. I’m budget concern, i.e. I compare prices before I commit to major service of my cars. They used to fix my 2008 Lexus ES300 before. Now I bought a very low mileage 2000 Subaru Outback but it keep having problems. Chris and Tony at the Smog Shop did a wonderful job in fixing my cars problems. I highly recommend them to anyone.

I was referred to Chris by another mechanic after taking my old van to many shops and I have to say he restored my faith in mechanics. I thought the transmission was making noise, but it turned out to be the catalytic converter. The driving difference is day and night! While it is hard to find anyone in SF to work on older vehicles, the communication was very transparent. I was speaking directly to the guy with the dirty gloves and not some sales guy with clean hands. Highly recommended!

These guys are fantastic. About two weeks ago, we were visiting SF and our car went over a divider. I first went to F. Lofrano and after Kevin (Klein) Dion spent about 15 to 20 minutes looking at the car, he directed me to Chris at the Smog Shop since I had another 400 mile drive. Chris and his team spent close to 20 minutes looking at the car and charged me nothing since they did not perform any work. I dont live in SF but if I did, this would be my to-go place for any mechanical work.

Always reasonable, professional, and flexible. These guys are my #1 in town for smogs and repairs. Today, they were able to accomodate my 26-foot Classic 76 GMC Palm Beach motorhome for a smog check. Total pros got me in, out and on my way even though my baby is a little bigger than most.
