This is a must visit! Likely the last place indoors you can smoke publicly in all of California... Bob, the bartender, is a gracious host with a wonderful selection behind the bar and a broad range of cigars in the humidor. The customers are all friendly and represent a broad range of global travelers
Its a cold windy night in the Big Fog. Youve just had a great meal at a city restaurant and are looking for a place to unwind. Your building doesnt allow smoking, and its too rough to go outside. Enter the Occidental. The place where you can strike up a great conversation with the person next to you all whilst enjoying a delectable stogie and a perfect scotch to match. Talk about life with the very skilled and knowledgeable bartender/owners and generally enjoy life as the night swings on by. Oh, and did I mention they have their own personalized butane lighters? This is the place. Five stars.
Stumbled across this place on accident and Im glad I did. Small but everything is on point. It was one guy working and somehow he was attentive to everyone needs. Now that I think about it he might have super powers. If you like cigars and friendly people definitely give this place a try.Again its small, but totally worth trying out.
Great place for a fine cigar and a drink! Cozy and lots of character with an awesome cigar bar vibe. Ive only been there when Zach is working and hes a great guy, very attentive and helpful. I highly recommend it if youre into the cigar bar scene.
Nice little cigar lounge. I always stop here when Im in the city for a good whiskey and a nice smoke. Its got a very relaxing vibe here.
Great customer service with only one worker. Enjoyed my cigar to the fullest and my cigar box I took with me. Bathroom was clean.
Nice small place with friendly bartender but they do not have a menu to refer to. You end up paying unexpected price for your drink. They neither have a physical price list nor one on Google, Yelp or their own website.
Perfect atmosphere. The venue is rather small, but its typical dim lighting, lots of wood and a good whiskey variety is just right. They don’t keep a lot of cigars, but you’re welcome to bring your own for which they charge a cutting fee. No food on the premises, but they keep a menu from an adjacent restaurant handy and the wait staff pops in to collect orders and deliver food. And they’re open late even early in the week which is perfect.
Great place. I highly recommend it.
False advertising! It is a bar that serves cigars, not a lounge or a club .The owner is friendly though, but the seating is a disappointment
Cozy and friendly atmosphere.
Due to San Francisco’s over-exuberant smoking laws, you only have about 3 real choices for places to buy and smoke premium cigars. After some extensive research, this is the only place in town with indoor smoking and a full bar. I had a great experience at this establishment. If you want an adult atmosphere, a real cigar, and the best libations a bar can offer, go to this place. If you are looking for cheap, this is not the place. It’s expensive to operate such an establishment in SF. You will pay a premium for your cigars and drinks, but it is worth it. Support local businesses like this one. It is small and quaint, and you can smoke your own cigars for a $10 cutting fee for each one. The bartender will cut and light your cigar for you. I loved it! Yvette was quite the host. But, don’t be an idiot, or she will put you in your place. Go enjoy it.
Good place to smoke cigars and enjoy a drink in the city. In fact, one of the very few places you can enjoy this, as it is owner operated. Has a homey vibe -- cigars are sold at a premium, but what should you expect in SF? All in all, enjoyable.
Excellent Old Fashioned and cigars. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy a cigar and a whiskey - this is it! Cigars are 30-50% above street prices and the selection is more limited than a cigar shop with a smoking room. The cigars are properly stored and fresh and the cigars they have (I’d say 40-50 options) are all quality sticks. Think of this as a cigar friendly bar more than a cigar lounge. Staff was friendly, and the pours were generous. We came here a couple of years ago and enjoyed it enough that we came back when we were back in town.
Decent place to have a drink and a smoke. You can bring your own stick for a $10 cutting fee which was nice or buy one there. They have a good selection of cigars, beers and whiskey. There is a $15 minimum charge per person which the bartender reminded us of 3 times. Just being diligent I suppose. It wasnt bad..it just wasnt great either.. Just kind of meh
Hands down the best place to have a cigar in San Francisco. I stop in every time Im in town. Great selection and almost any liquor you can think of to pair.
OUTSTANDING place!!! Like other reviews say it’s not for someone looking for a “deal” but if you smoke fine cigars, fine spirits and fine drinks... like everything in life “ you get what you pay for”. Owner was great!!! Made me welcome, suggested a special bourbon I’ve never had and will now be trying to hunt it down back in PA. Will be back again and look forward to it!!!
Really cool spot. Was in town for a graduation and had a few sticks with me. $5 cut fee (no problem) and ordered a old fashion. Very friendly customers... most seem like regulars there but very nice and friendly. If Im back in town will definitely visit again!
Love this place!
Best Cigar club in San Francisco. Also, the only cigar club in San Francisco. That said I really liked this place. Good service, small yet decent selection of cigars, nice selection of spirits, beers and wine. Nice neighborhood bar feel. $10 cutting fee if you bring your own cigars. Great place.
Yevette was awesome. Good selection of whiskey and cigars. Took the uber in so very easy to get to. Well maintained cigars. You can tell by taste and feel. Definitely would recommend.
Best owners/tenders extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere and regular crowd is amazing, diverse, and relaxing.I love to spend time here relaxing, writing, and occasionally the zone out while finishing up work with a high end scotch!
Love this place. Every time Im in San Francisco I always make an effort to visit. One of the last very few places you can smoke a nice cigar inside at the bar. Great selection of cigars, bourbon, beer and wine.
Ive spent s few evenings here while being in town for business. Its not a big place, but Ive never had trouble getting a seat at the bar. They have a great tequila selection, as well as scotch and bourbon. People are very friendly here, and Id highly recommend visiting here if youd like to enjoy a good cigar. You can bring your own too.
The employee (bar tender/ Tobacconist) did not open his mouth to speak to us...at all! I had to ask him for our total after he fiddled with the register, turned and just stared at the money in my hand. Outside of the rude employee the bar was clean and decor was nice.
Cool neighborhood spot. Great selection of top shelf liquors. Cigar selection is ok. A little pricey on the sticks. They charge a cutting fee if you bring your own. Nice low key kind of place
Solid place. A bit smaller than most cigar lounges Im used to but its San Fransisco so what do you expect? They have a great chill vibe, friendly bartenders, and a good selection of bourbon. Order Blantons if they have it.
Nice to find a place in town to smoke a cigar. The bartenders/part owners were in a perpetual bad mood and couldnt care less if they had customers or not. Not what I would have hoped for.
Quality over quantity seems to be the best way to describe their selection of cigars. The owners are welcoming and friendly, and the lounge itself has a great vibe. Best Ive come across in San Francisco, not a doubt about it.
Outstanding spot for Alpha Male pleasure maneuvers. Easy to lose track of a few hours, relaxing with a Martini and a nice cigar. A tad on the small end so the selection of both cigars and drinks isnt the most extensive, but what they do carry is top shelf, all of it.
Great place for a cigar smoker. Little pricey. The Bartender/ owner Jake was GREAT!! Drinks were perfect. Would recommend if looking for a place to smoke.
Searching through the city in search of a cogar lounge. Found this place and could not have been happier. Smaller, but well curated humidor. Brilliant liquor selection, and most importantly friendly staff and patrons. We pick out a few cigars and tried the house preferred bourbon. Was a great pair. That mixed with friendly conversations made for a great cap to the weekend spent in San Francisco. I cannot wait till I have another opportunity to visit.
My go-to spot in SF. Always great conversations, drinks and probably the online full bar with inside smoking!
There is two absolutely different pictures. When some guy in the bar, there is fantastic atmosphere and wonderful service. I visited this bar during last three years. But today I faced a terrible experience. There was some strange lady in the bar desc. She was really angry for all the world, she provided catastrophic service and the lowest level of comfort.
Small intimate cigar place. Great to unwind late night and get your smoke on. Good scotch selection ... and some good wines too. Definitely check it out
Great ambiance and selection of alcohol! $10 cutting fee but bring your own cigar is encouraged which is nice in the city. You should check it out.
Great place to solve the worlds problems over a fine whiskey and a nice cigar. Indoor smoking so be prepared to leave smelling like smoke for the rest of the night.
More bar than lounge with a pretty impressive collection of drinks and a small but upscale collection of cigars. The bar tender is super helpful and friendly. Nice collection of patrons. Very friendly place and good place to grab a smoke.
Great spot with great people. The guy working there (Im sorry, I forgot his name) is great; friendly, knowledgeable, and very fun to talk to.Cigar selection is fine. Drink selection is excellent.I will definitely be back next time Im in SF.
Expensive sticks but generous pours. Didn’t realize how hard it would be to find a place to smoke a stick in San Fran. Glad we stumbled upon this place.
Being from Los Angeles Ive grown accustomed to larger Cigar lounges. But though small it had plenty of personality. Humidors were small but nicely stocked with a variety of premium smokes. Large selection of varying spirits, friendly bartender and sociable patrons made it a great spot.
I was in SF on business and was looking forward to kicking back with a good cigar. Unfortunately, the bartender at the Occidental was so inhospitable that we ended up going elsewhere. He made it very clear that accommodating us was about the last thing on earth he was interested in doing. I would strongly recommend that you look elsewhere for a place to enjoy a stogie.
One of the rare places you can smoke cigars in SF
Incredible whisky and whiskey selection. Knowledgeable staff, and a couple of great humidors. A must see for a scotch and cigars stop.
We are from out of town, and visited Occidental Cigar Club three times. The first two times we visited there was an older guy with white hair who greeted us with respect and was pleasant to deal with the entire time. The third time we visited there, we were excited to be back in the same environment. Unfortunately this time was not the case. There was a women who was working who greeted us with an attitude and down right RUDE! We had some interaction that escalated quickly and decided to leave. We took our business else where and spent $250.00 on drinks and cigars four blocks away at a place called “Cigar Bar”.*** WARNING*** If you ever go to Occidental Cigar Club, peak in the window and if the women is working, ENTER AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
Cigars are priced about $5.00 more than any of my local shops. Small bar without any comfortable seats that the cigar lounges usually have. Good that you can drink a good whiskey or scotch while you smoke though.
Cool place even if you have to wash your clothes and take a shower after smoking a stogey. You will smell like your went to a cigar bar. Go figure. :)
It is great to be able to have a drink and a cigar, but fairly expensive.
Great place to enjoy a cigar and cocktail!Friendly staff, I wish it were a little larger though.Had a great time!
Absolutely legit whisky and cigar bar. The owners are great, the restaurant next door delivers amazing food, and the clientele is friendly and low-key. A classic.
I went here to celebrate my birthday, and it was an awesome treat. The bartender was very friendly, and patient with my friends who hadnt smoked before. It wasnt crowded, and the other patrons were very chill. My only issue was the cigar prices are quite high here. Id rather buy my cigar at a place like Telfords, where there is a huge choice, both cheap and expensive, and then pay the $5 cutting fee. Id love to come back again.
Its small, and the vibe is really hit or miss. Sometimes you get a nice, courteous crowd; other times, its a little bit douchie. Small selection of high quality sticks, and very helpful, courteous staff.
Safe and comfortable place to smoke cigars and have a cocktail.
I was in town with the brothers on vacation and we stopped in here around 10PM for some drinks and stogies. Yvette was at the bar and, though she was a bit busy with a decent crowd, almost immediately helped us out. The humidors had a semi-small, but quality selection of premium cigars to fit most any taste at the kind of pricing youd expect from most cigar bars. The selection of beer and wine was much the same deal, so not a wide variety, but a small amount of quality selections. The Scotch and whiskey selection was the star of the show though, and my brothers and I loved chatting with Yvette about stogies and Scotch. So while this might not be the place to go if you want to stock up on a wide variety of cigars, or if you want to drink a lot of different beers and wines, its the perfect place to go if you want to enjoy a cigar and pair it with a good drink for a couple hours. The Occidental Cigar Club seems to know its niche and fills it perfectly, and thats why Ill definitely be coming back if I find myself in San Francisco again.
Able to smoke a cigar inside! Rare to find in San Francisco with a full bar
Good selection of premium cigars, good alcohol selection as well. Could be more friendly, but it does not really matter
It advertises you can bring your own cigars for a $5.00 cut fee. That i have no problem with. I sit at the bar, order a drink and light up. I’m then told by the bartender that i cant smoke my brand (Isla del Sol by Drew estates) because it is mild and don’t mix well with the aroma of all the cigars being smoked in the place! Been to cigar bars all over the country and have never ever had this problem. Dumbest thing i ever heard. Safe to say I’ll never return. Not to mention the seating is uncomfortable. I recommend the cigar bar when in San Fran...
Great crowd...little pricey but I had a good time. Glad I stopped in on a whim
Great spot to enjoy a cigar and drink. Nice spirit selection. Must visit for cigar enthusiasts.
Not many non-club cigar bars in San Francisco so its nice to have a some options. This is my preferred place when you want to relax with a cigar and some whiskey, without the dance crowd and lines etc (Im referring to other popular cigar lounge in the area)... Nice selection of whiskies, though more on the expensive side but they have to make up for the lower volume so its understandable.
The only bar where you can smoke a cigar (or a pipe). Very decent whisk(e)y selection, and Thomas (one of the owners and bartenders) makes a great Dry Martini. Also ask him about his manlyhattan.
One of the very few places in San Francisco where one can smoke a cigar and have a drink. Decent humidor, solid cocktails, and a good wine list.
Thank you for the great hospitality and fine selection of cigars! Come visit us if you’re in Vancouver BC Canada - Revolucion Cigars and Fine Gifts!
Great little bar with a solid selection of cigars and alcohol. The bartender was helpful and down to earth. I would reccommend to anyone looking for a relaxing and good time.
Gentleman was very helpful in selecting a stick for my walk to fishermans wharf.
Disappointing. Bartender was dismissive and unaccommodating. After asking for a White Russian, proprietor recommended we try a different bar in town. I’m sure the drinks and cigars are fine, but the air of sophistication leaves a bit to be desired.
Thomas is the best! Great costumer service
Nice laid back atmosphere to enjoy a cigar!
Wow amazing scotch! The bar tender is so knowledgeable and choose delicious drinks for me. He really know his stuff!
Laid back. Just the way I like.
I know, I know, its a cigar bar. But all everyone does is talk about cigars! I dont need for you to describe to me your liga privada buddy! Plus side is that you can enjoy a smoke and drink without being ridiculed by some liberal giving you the stink eye.
Nice place and good atmosphere, the bar tender (part owner) seemed a bit full of himself and as someone else said, was really only interested in his own friends and seemed as if I was bothering him when ordering drinks. Still though, I will go there again and would recommend it to others.
I always have a good time at this place.update: what a place! i’ve always liked it and expected something closer to 5.0 than the current 4.5 rating. the staff are always on point and hospitable with good tips on cigars and drinks and the cigar selection is limited but excellent considering you don’t have cubans.always able to find space and strike up a conversation or stick to yourself. a true SF gem!update 2: came back here feb2020 and the place is still great as ever!
Not good ventilation. Needs to improve that problem. I love a cigar but theres no reason for there to not be adequate ventilation. My eyes were bleeding in there because of the lack of ventilation
Small but good selection of sticks. Great liquor selection.
Great drink selection. Fantastic cigars.
Great atmosphere and wonderful selection of spirits and cigars.
Great place to relax with friends. Its well ventilated considering how small the place is.
Nice vibe friendly bartender excellent whiskey collection to enhance the cigars
Lots of fun with friendly staff and guests.
Great service and great selection.
A small hideaway from the pc world we live in. A small bit of heaven for those who enjoy booze and smoke. Youll meet all kinds of characters and enjoy a fine selection of drinks.
Great service, great bar. Cigars were all a bit over humidified and burned a little off.
Excellent! A true cigar bar. Not stuffy, no big leather chairs, just a bar, with real people and an AMAZING selection of scotch. Enjoyed a glass of Balvenie 21 y/o single malt (port cask) and an Arturo Fuente Hemingway cigar. Smokey ... really smoky.
One if the few cigar bars in the city. Good place to go and feel like a boss playa somki
One of the only places in San Francisco where you can enjoy a fine stogie and a libation indoors. This place is a favorite among my friends.
Excellent place for a cigar lover to hang in in SF. Small but high quality selection of cigars. Vast liquor choices.
