This place was the most wonderful bar. Stunning location with an exceptionally friendly staff. The customers were lovely too. We were there to raise a toast in remembrance of my son Shane. We stayed all night enjoying the most amazing private room. Definitely come here for the fabulously delicious cocktails and delectable snacks. We will absolutely return!
If youre in The Wharf in San Francisco and want a cocktail, youre unfortunately surrounded by tourist traps. But just a 20 minute walk away is Fort Mason, and the science museum The Interval, home to The Long Now Foundation. Surprisingly, they have one of the more fun cocktail bars in the city. Surrounded by interesting machines, old drawings and a ceiling full of bulbs with unknown substances, they mix classic cocktails with a twist. 🥃👍
Very cool place! The ambience is very interesting. It gives a library plus museum vibe where you can work or simply relax. The range of drinks is amazing - from different teas to coffee to perfectly curated cocktails. I am definitely going there again. And I highly recommend everyone to try it once!!
Found this place because I was at an event in the Fort Mason center, and was amazed by this place. During the day, this place is a cute coffee shop serving great pastries, coffee, and hot chocolate. In the evening, the place is a fantastic cocktail bar serving delicious drinks. The best thing about the place is the ambiance, and I can stay here all day long for it. Perfect place to work over a coffee during the day and great place to hang out at night with friends. This place is fairly small and packed during busy evenings, so recommend coming here early. Highly recommend this place if you’re in the area!
Cool little bar, tucked away in Fort Mason. Drinks are great, atmosphere elevates this to an above average experience and the staff is helpful/friendly
We flew to San Francisco that afternoon and decided to go for a walk along the water front just before dark and ended up here. A busy, quirky, clean and unique place. The bartender was friendly and great to watch making drinks. The drinks tasted great and atmosphere was fun. Got chatting to a few people i had meant before so was a great evening in a wonderful place.
Super cool hip bar with custom made Gin, full bar beer and wine although the wine selection is minimal.
Pricey and not a great place to get work done as the environment is loud. I was also disappointed by the scallops as they were simply canned. Drinks were good though.
Not terrible, but not a library vibe, definitely on the louder side. Drinks were good.
Creative cocktail menu in a unique and artistic setting
Ok so Ive been to a few really cool bars but never to one and neat as this. They have these amazing mechanical art pieces, even one you can lose a finger at. There are lots of things in here that catch your eye. After noticing the art, my eye caught what looked like lights hanging from the ceiling. Turned out to be booze bottles hanging from the ceiling and were numbered. Turns out they are for sponsors, they are limited made spirits made just for this charity sponsorships. This is Soo cool! They also have a super rare tea if your not into alcohol, just ask. If thats not enough, they have a few cool nooks and a private area you can sit. They have some snacks and a full bar, with a bartender worth talking to. He made us one of the best Irish coffees Ive ever seen a had, and I had just been to Buena Vista. I was really impressed that he not only hand shook the fresh cream but also tossed in a lil chocolate liquor and topped it with a lil hand shaved dark chocolate. This place is my favorite spot in all of the ft. Mason area, if you go you have to check this place out for sure! So they offer a limited menu during lunch/breakfast but have a full menu and stay open later in the evening for drinks. Oh almost forgot to mention the ginger mixer prototype machine that mixes the perfect flavored gin, you cannot find anything like this anywhere else.
One of kind bars I ever went to!
Very hipster but great views on the ocean!
Drinks are nice, but over priced. Not really any ambience. No food (due to COVID). I mean, its an OK bar, but its prices are punching way above its weight.
Cocktails and mocktails. Busy with great conversation.
Really cool atmosphere and great drinks.
Really good cocktails here.
Great alcoholic and non alcoholic options - both hot and cold
Nice place to drink shots and great view
One of the coolest bars Ive been to! Small, intimate space with awesome cocktails. No happy hour here but I found the drinks worthwhile. Bartenders were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere here is super interesting. Plenty of parking, however as this place is small you should plan accordingly. Cant recommended this place enough, Ill definitely be coming back!
Inspired cocktails. Inspiring mission. So good. After supporting the crowd funding more than four years ago. I was finally able to visit. Cocktails and tea live up to the hype. Delicious. Boozy. Also, the soundtrack is perfection. Relaxed and thoughtful place. Clientele is evenly split between attractive couples on dates and thoughtful individuals engrossed in books or laptops.
This place is great! Came here few times during my summer stay in SF! First two times had tea, and third visit grabbed few cocktails! this place is a good spot to visit alone, with friends, or with a date! It’s quiet enough to have a conversation. Drinks are great! Bartender is great, he remembered my face and recognized me on second visit! One of my favorite places in the city :)
One of my favorite fancy cocktail bars in SF. Love the private room at the back of the bar overlooking the bay. Great futuristic atmosphere. Killer drinks. Pictured here in all its delectable glory is a Oaxacan Old Fashioned - tequila, mezcal, chile liqueur and chocolate bitters, served on large ice with orange zest.
My favorite cocktail bar is open again! We grabbed drinks (so hard to choose, they all looked delicious) then appetizers from Greens and had a little picnic in the park. The drinks are amazing and they have coffee and tea too... and pre-made mixed drinks you can take home for later! It’s not the same without the people and art inside but was still SO delightful!
Good cocktails, beautiful space
Great drinks, unique venue, and the crowd is always interesting
Thia bar was super fun! I love the spirits hanging in the ceiling; the bartender mentioned something about them being there for charities. It looks beautiful. The ambience is great on a Sunday around 5pm. Not too full, not empty.Came here to get coffee (it was fresh, beans were delicious) and left having had a delicious gin cocktail.
Poor customer serviceAnd they never answer phone calls.I went ahead and supported other bars...since they dint seem keen on responding
Very cool museum to visit!! If you are visiting San Francisco! Please visit this amazing, beautiful and life awakening spot! I love coming here for Thursday night because only 21+ allowed and there is music with different themes. Also dont forget to catch a show on Exploratorium !! Its very amazing way to learn about solar system! Visit the green house globe which takes you all the way up to see birds, fishes and spiders!!! Just simply observe the architecture which is amazing and beautiful and must must visit the living roof!!!
Came in with a group of friends one afternoon. I thought it would be a good place to grab a drink (non-alcoholic and alcoholic) and get some work done. the drinks were delicious.Maybe it was just the day we went in, but it felt more like a quiet library then a bar. My friends and I were wary of talking because of how quiet it was, even though it was full of people. The bartender said it was a bar and that we should feel comfortable talking.
Very cool place to have an interesting drink. The staff is very nice and helpful and the ambiance is really nice. Will absolutely be going back. Randy and Sandy were the two bartenders attending the night I was there and they were both really cool. Very intriguing spot.
Great bar in Fort Mason with quality cocktails and chill, intellectual vibe.Limited seating, but generally hasnt been too crowded. Its a bit far from the other bars, so tends to attract a more intentional audience. Lots of clever decorations, almost a bit like a science museum. Fantastic menu with a wide range of cocktails to please all palates.Note, Interval closes at midnight and last call is around 11:30, so its not great for late night visits.
Nice to be able to pick up a delicious cocktail when going to see a movie outdoors or having dinner at Greens next door.
Fantastic drinks, and friendly staff. I’d highly suggest exploring the drinks list as it is, but if you don’t find something you’re interested in, strike up a conversation with the staff. We tried a few things and loved it, but found the off menu potential just as inspired and enjoyable as what is on menu. Lastly I’d just recommend going on a night when the area is less busy, if for no other reason than for the staff to have a moment for the above conversation. Enjoy!
Great people
Detail and design put into every little thing they do. A rare mixture between delicate alchemy and heavy machinery. Beautiful ambiance. One of my favorites of all time
Great atmosphere. This place is a coffee meets bar fusion. The decor is very nice. They got this moving artwork behind the bar that is ridiculously captivating. The mix drinks are made very well. Wanted to try most of them.
Awesome spot for cocktails!
Good design makes for a delightfully romantic place to have a coffee during the day or a cocktail in the evening. And theres a cozy semi-private booth with a view of the Golden Gate.
Awesome cocktails. You know it’s legit when they use a thermometer stirrer. My only issue with this bar is the bar itself is small and it can get pretty crowded. But will definitely go back.
Im not a huge fan of coffee, but this gem hidden in Fort Mason is one of the coolest coffee shops Ive been to.As soon as I walked in the coffee shop, I was immediately impressed with the aesthetics. Whats really cool was that it was also a museum. They had a lot of fascinating things here thats worth admiring. They also serve alcohol here! I ordered the cranberry with Douglas fir shrub and it kind of tasted like vinegar. Not necessarily a bad thing, I actually enjoyed it.Theres a small lounge in the back that my group and I went to. There, you could see a beautiful view of the Marina and the Golden Gate Bridge.I would love to come back here again and show this place to my friends!
Intellectual hang out spot, well crafted drinks, and fun history to read. I recommend hitting the interval before a wedding event, food truck weekends or any fort mason festivities. It’s a relaxing bar to meet people, it’s not loud and you can enjoy company without yelling. Make the time to check it out. Drink prices are higher then usual but they make them with care and precision.
Very nice ambiance, the music isnt so loud that you cant hear your friends, which is nice. I felt like my drinks were a bit too smooth. I had two whiskey drinks, one which tasted like not much of anything, one which was overpowered by the lemon juice. But I still got a good buzz, so I guess I cant complain to hard. Id go here again.

Ive always loved this place! Im just glad that Ill be at Fort Mason center every week... just gives me all the more reason to grab my all-time favourite Old-fashioned at The Interval at Long Now! Hands down, then best Old-fashioned in town!
Great, cozy place for a drink alone or with friends. Not loud inside so can easily talk to others and lots of pay parking right outside.
Great takeaway cocktails for Covid times. The milk punch and navy gimlet are both tops.
Holy smokes. This just aint no standard cafe/drinks place. Its a literal society. Think steam punk meets futurism meets today. While I dont know much about the Long Now society, I feel like I should, or maybe I already do in a parallel universe. Latte was average for SF (meaning good world-wide). The mixed drinks seem to be the stars. That and the mechanical celestial clock. Great location for a date too.
I am so glad to finally add The Interval to Places Ive Been, and Will Revisit Soon. Quality drinks, excellent atmosphere, very fine selection behind the bar. Very pure flavors. All drinks were measured (vs. free pour, which I despise) so I feel safe in ordering different drinks next time. And, they have a piece of Brian Eno art behind the bar.
This bar is just the cutest and most cozy paradise in the middle of bustling SF. Came here on a date because we couldnt get into the Cal Academy of Sciences. It was the perfect alternative though! Got the Moscow mule and it was delicious!

Quaint. Friendly and out of this world. Strong drinks and a modern, well thought out and intellectual environment. Great for after dinner (or pre!) dinner drinks and a hidden gem if Ive ever seen one.Lovely, informative staff and an ambiance that can make for a spectacular evening.
I hesitate to rank it so highly because I dont want more people to go. Good night tonight as its burning man and the whole world is getting their out of town travels in for the holiday, so it was fairly quiet tonight, perfect, since it also happened to be my actual birthday.

Where else can you get a craft cocktail ordered from a leather-bound menu and supplement it with a jar of pimento cheese, complete with gluten-free crackers, long after every other bar’s kitchen has closed? For a boozy midnight snack with a touch of class, The Interval delivers!
This place is a JEM! I love the atmosphere and the globe/sundial in the front. The drinks are amazing. This place is truely something great! It does get crowded on weekends though so be prepared.
Good chill place. A little far from the rest of the city, but there is the Off the Grid food trucks and music every Friday, so can make it an evening.Craft cocktails is what you come here for.
Very significant feeling. Lots of important intellectual content on the shelves. Very cool that The Long Now has a bar underneath it. Good people spend time here and it is not too crowded.
Cant believe we have not hung out here before! This is a cafe + bar with interiors done so aesthetically. We tried their fab herbal teas. So glad to have found this gem!
I could come back many times just to check out the cool interior. The cocktails served are really good and the bartenders do make good recommendations. The crowd is very decent given the place is in Marina. Overall a solid 5-star experience.
Good bar with amazing imaginative cocktails, friendly fun staff and very intellectual clientele. I love this spot, but it is pretty out-of-the-way. You can get into some very intellectual or philosophical conversations with just about anybody there, and you will really enjoy yourself. If it wasnt in the middle of nowhere, Id go there every day.
Relaxed ambience, Friendly and attentive bartenders that make great drinks. Love this place. They made one of the best old fashions Ive ever had.
Knowledgeable garçons and a cool setting. Theres a small library upstairs but it seems to be closed. We had brought our books since it seemed like you could study there but it was too loud for that and just had more of a regular fancy cocktail bar setting. Price of any given cocktail was around $13. Worth the trek.
Extraordinarily cerebral environs with skilled and thoughtful bartenders. International beverage selections to enlighten your taste buds. Great company and good conversation. Try the chocolate hazelnut shortbread, too!
Came here around 11:30. Customer service was great, they let me sample a few drinks before making a decision which is awesome. Justin and Jeremy deserve a raise
Fantastic cocktails and sweet staff and owner. I love the chandeliers made from decanters. One of the best things about this bar is the local residents bring in their dogs, I love a great cocktail and a good cuddle with a borrowed dog now and then.
Incredible drinks and atmosphere. Youll feel like part of the future.
Coffee shop, bar & event space boasting a modern setting complete with views & a librarylike vibe.
I recently went to two events at Interval and had a great time at each one. Both events were nighttime activities, so Ive experienced their bar service (rather than daytime, coffee shop experience). The venue supports the Long Now Foundation (check that out and see their special events schedule!). It has a great decor that mixes library + chemistry lab (take a look at the ceiling with its hanging bottles) + clock/timepiece + even more cool things. Fort Mason as a backdrop is an added bonus.
Hipster meets the marina. located in Fort Mason right next to Greens, this new bar serves up a wide variety of delicious libations from a friendly waitstaff. The decor is adorned with artifacts from old maritime days including the prototypes of Long Nows 10,000 year Clock around The Interval. I tried the Decanted Mother-in-Law(that was served in an apothecary bottle), old fashioned and a dirty martini(wish they had stuffed olives). None of which left me disappointed. Prices are reasonable for the area.
Great ambiance and fantastic cocktails. I recommend the gunmetal fix. If you are coming here for the off the grid food trucks, dont bother with the bars there, come here for a much nicer drink at same price
