It is what it says it is, an easy going diner with that a good casual vibe and great attention/service by the staff...We had the benedicts, the scrambled with bacon and pancakes, coffee and orange juice, and everything was on point.Definitely worthy of its price... and Erick was super kind with us at all times, thanks again!!
Nice friendly place and attentive service and And the prices are low, However the eggs tasted a little strange, Not off or anything. Difficult to describe perhaps the pan wasnt cleaned very well.
This is place is absolutely delicious! Had a salad and pancake taco (both amazing). The vibe was very cozy, staff and customers were incredibly friendly, noticed there were happy regulars there, very inviting feeling - will definitely be back again!
Great diner for breakfast. Food is fresh, prices reasonable, and staff is friendly and efficient.
Amazing service, amazing pancakes and the breakfast plates are real good!! They have good burgers too!
I got the high protein breakfast and it was a little disappointing because it was watery and without much flavor. However what redeemed this place was that sf omelet was very delicious (I had some of a friend’s), the potatoes were very tasty and crunchy and well seasoned. I will have to try it again and maybe update my review later. What’s so great about this place is that Edward, the owner, was so attentive and you can tell he really cares about your experience. He noticed that I didn’t really eat much of the protein breakfast and offered to get me something else instead. Also he realized that we were new to the area and made us breakfast tacos for us to try.The breakfast taco is basically Nutella banana strawberry and whipped cream with a pancake. It was absolutely genius! The thickness of the pancake makes it much better than a crepe in my opinion. Highly recommend.
Extremely solid diner, reasonable prices, good food. Would recommend and come back!
The food was delicious. Pancakes:8/10(casual)|Bacon:9/10(not greasy)|Scrambled Eggs:8/10(normal)|Eggs Benedict:9/10(wouldve given 10/10 but there was too much sauce(though the sauce is delicious and very natural and i have a sensitive stomach and i felt perfectly fine after))|Potatoes:10/10(delicious by themselves or you can put hot sauce on it)|Fruit Cup:10/10(no complaints) Coffee:7/10(nothing special). The staff was very friendly and food came fresh and warm. Calm atmosphere. Menu has alot of options. overall 9/10
Really good little diner. We got a table quick, and had our food in no time. The waitress was extremely friendly and was extremely grateful of us being there. Highly recommend to anyone in the area.
Highly recommended, excellent people, amazing staff specially the kitchen guys, I really recommend this place for brunchI always stop by for breakfast and lunch, don’t miss the pancake tacos, is their speciality
Just ate there 3-17-21 and the customer service was beyond amazing. He was attentive and very kind. The good were very big portions for the cheap price. I would definitely come back.
Says they open at 8 AM but we went by right before 9 AM and they were still closed. We waited around for about five-ten minutes before leaving.
2/11/20- I ordered the pancake breakfast with a side order of fruit via Uber eats. Upon receiving my order I realized my order lacked syrup. As everyone knows unless you’re ordering a super sweet pancake style, syrup is very detrimental.Luckily, I was only approximate a block away from the restaurant and was able to walk to the restaurant for the missing condiment. Considering I had paid extra for delivery I was rather upset initially. However upon greeting the manager/cook on staff, he quickly corrected the issue and even added an incentive due to the inconvenience.Upon returning to my hotel I was able to actually enjoy the quality which this café serves. Bacon was surprisingly thick and crispy. Blueberry pancakes were made with fresh, perfectly ripe blueberries and offered a pleasing portion. The syrup was almost like honey in consistency and glazed everything it touched. My eggs were a little rubbery but with scrambled eggs, it’s easy to slightly overcook them. The side of fruit was so so as most of the selection (melons) are currently out of season.Overall, I’d most definitely revisit this location to try other things this local whole in the wall offers.
Great food, arrived really quickly!!
Waitress was very sweet & friendly, but the service was very slow (understaffed). Waters on the table quickly, but it took rather long to get coffee and no refills while still eating. Meal delivery to the table was super slow, by the time the last dishes came, the people who got theirs 1st were done eating. The 3 Amigos breakfast plate was good, their breakfast potatoes were delicious! Country Fried Steak breakfast was ok. The pancake tacos were good, but way overpriced. CASH Only or Venmo/Zelle. NO CCs.
I love this place so much the food is bomb and Amanda she’s such a nice a person and she treats everyone really good but y’all should come to this placee.
Perfect local diner experience. Complete with birthday cake and song for a regular at another table.
Out of towners we felt welcome as if at home. The food was excellent quality, service top notch
Delicious breakfast! Definitely recommend them, and the staff are so welcoming.
First time here since the ownership changed. The place is much improved. The service was really fast, and the food was fresh and delicious. I was here for breakfast, and the menu had a great deal of variety to it. From a full English breakfast, to scrambles, to Mexican dishes and their signature Pancake Tacos!! I will definitely be back to try all of the dishes that I can.
Amazing service, great food.
I LOVE this place! Great food, excellent customer service and the perfect little mom and pop brunch spot! My boyfriend and I always eat here whenever we come to San Francisco for the weekend. Highly recommend a visit.
When you walking down the street and notice this place, it will hardly look appealing in any way. Mostly neighborhood people are the one to eat here. But when you get inside you feel welcomed like you are going to grandma for breakfast. Food is amazing and cheap. Service was good also. Definitely worth the price.
English bfast hit the spot
Great service and delicious food. Make sure to try the Pancake Tacos! They are sweet and savory and a good twist on breakfast food. The owner seems to care very much about the neighborhood and his craft. Would recommend to everyone!
Good breakfast and good prices. Only downside was that you could only pay cash or Venmo. Would have been nice to be told that before we ordered but it all worked out just fine! It is also in a nice area.
A really great place under excellent ownership and managed very well. they have a lot of food besides breakfast that is very good.
One of my favorite eateries in SF!The owner is attentive and personable, the prices are reasonable, the portions are great, the food is delicious, and the clientele is the perfect mix of locals with great stories and opinions to share on a variety of topics and visitors with equally interesting stories and desire to gain knowledge of the Bay Area from a local resident.Highly recommend this gem!!
Its a nice and quiet place, especially if you find other brunch places packed. The service is great, and reasonably priced :)
This is an old neighborhood cafe owned and operated by a young man. Very friendly place and the food was excellent and very reasonable prices. An old property with all the cool atmosphere it brings.
Top brunch spot. Interesting themes every month with mystery murder dinners, Simpsons themes, and more. The staff were very courteous also. The omelette was pretty good - not the best Ive eaten, but definitely pretty tasty. The wait can get a bit long, so make sure to stop in early. The venue is small. As for the staff, theyre courteous. The owner who took over 2 years ago greeted us. Others were super quick to refill our coffee and were highly respectful.Id come here again for sure.
My son and I found the best cafe in San Francisco. The service was outstanding and food was fresh and bought locally. My son had biscuits and gravy, he also had homemade tortilla chips with chimicurro sauce, I had chicken fried steak. What I really loved was the food wasnt to salty the chef lets you choose how much you want to. Cant wait to go back and try lunch and dinner. Very friendly people.
Excellent little cafe! Great customer service and friendly environment. We come here every time we visit San Francisco.
Refreshingly genuine small business run by an owner who is always behind the counter making customers feel welcome. Well executed breakfast classics plus a few wacky delicious creations like pancake nutella tacos. The menu is also unusually vegetarian-friendly, but there are still plenty of options for those who need our bacon and sausage.
The perfect neighborhood spot with amazing food and even better service, conveniently located on Polk St. The menu has a wide variety of options, including a very yummy eggs Benedict. Edward was super friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to come back and try the chicken and waffles!!
Absolutely amazing hospitality and quick service!!!
Its a great little place in a hole on the wall with all American breakfast and lunch food. A lot of tourists end up there to have a quick bite before they go on their merry day of discoveries, a lot of locals end up here to pack up on calories thatll help them go through their hard day work.Food is good, service is fast in general but as soon as its slightly getting packed, service goes from fast to snail speed. Thats my only negative point. They also have interestingly flavored item on the menu so all American food but with a creative kick here and there. I just need to try their chicken waffles now.
Best old school cafe spot! The Three Amigos plate was really tasty. Edward, the owner, is super friendly. And he invented the pancake breakfast tacos! Delicious. Geez... Forgot to take a pic. Anyway, if youre craving small town food in a reborn 100+ year old Cafe, this is it!
The owner is very welcoming and delivers great service. Friendly environment and absolutely delicious breakfast. First time visiting from Phoenix and I am very satisfied with New Village Cafe.
This place, its just awesome. My girlfriend and I tried it a few months back, and have been there nearly every weekend since. Great friendly service, great food. Most weekends there is a special menu which just makes it all the more awesome and totally prevents getting burnt out on the same restaurant every week. Ill be there this weekend again Im sure.
The atmosphere in here is like an old-style diner. Completely different vibe from the fancier, bougie brunch places with lines down the street, New Village Cafe has ample seating and fast, friendly service provided by the owner, Edward. The food is classic American breakfast food with a couple of twists like the waffle burger or the full English breakfast.I highly recommend it if youre looking for someplace to eat simple, wholesome food and relax on a weekend morning.
Great breakfast, better than what you expect from a diner, and fantastic service too. I dont want to go overboard, but you know how YOU make your pancakes, eggs, English muffin, etc...thats how great theirs is. Their homemade fresh seasonal fruit salad was the bomb! We bought extra for our flight snack.
My breakfast was very disappointing, so much so that I didnt finish. I ordered The Full English, which was truly just a vague approximation to a British fry up cobbled together from American breakfast foods. Eggs scrambled not sunny side up, American bacon crispy to the point of burnt instead of Canadian bacon, and Im not sure what those baked beans were but they were certainly not Heinz. Of course I expected this, and it wouldnt have been a problem if the food was actually cooked well. Instead it tasted like it had been assembled from constituent parts that had been left sitting for 30 mins or more. Everything was slightly cold, and I left the restaurant feeling quesy. And I paid $19 for the privilege.
Lots of vegan options and great customer service!
Good food... Giving it only 4 stars because they have a rule that theu can only split the check 3 ways and can only take 2 cards. We came as a large group and no one mentioned this to us. The bill was not clear and made it hard for us to split. The place almost empty so its not like it would have taken away valuable time for them. Big inconvenience.
Quick friendly service and delicious food. I ordered the classic Benedict and a side of pancakes and bacon. The pancakes were light fluffy and delicious and the bacon was thick and crispy. Well definitely be back here!
What a great little breakfast/lunch spot. Really loved this place. Good service, good food, and great prices for San Fran.. would definitely go again!
The best part of any establishment are its people and that holds true for The Village Cafe. The staff is as friendly and nice as it gets and it truly takes care of people from the neighborhood with its unmatched hospitality. The breakfast menu is comprehensive and youre going to be spoilt for choice with a delectable array of options available. Highly recommend it especially if you live around here, make it a Sunday morning ritual!
My new favorite dining spot! I used to go to Joe’s on Geary for the cheap food, but my boyfriend moved to the Polk area recently. This is like Joe’s, but upgraded where you get a bigger selection, friendlier staff, and real customer service.New Village is perfect if you like cozy, unpretentious, neighborhood joints. You can tell a lot of regulars come here based on the banter the main employee out front has with his customers. Plus, he gave us excellent recommendations like putting honey on our chicken and waffles instead of syrup! Genius. Oh. And try the bomb hot sauce. There’s a bunch of new stuff I want to try after my first visit. Also, they take cash and card :)
Cool little hole in the wall. You can tell a lot of people come here by the many photos on the wall. Food is good as the prices. Friendly staff. Look for the special of the day, thats the best way to go. I will come again.
Absolutely love this place for their biscuits and gravy. Love the staff, very attentive and fun. Thanks guys
Nice hole in the wall spot for breakfast. Great for a morning after drinking or an inexpensive meal.
It took almost 30 minutes to get my food, the staff were too busy humming and singing to songs on the radio to ask how i was doing. There was a lot of food, but it was not seasoned at all. No butter on the toast, no salt on the potatoes or eggs. The potatoes had nothing on them, no onions or peppers. Just half cooked potatoes. I will not be going back here again.
A great and amazing place. The stuff and owner were very friendly and sweet. I went there with a couple of friends who also loved and enjoy the food and the service. All of us enjoyed our meal and the interaction with Edward who made us feel very welcome to cafe and even to SF.He answered our question and showed us pictures of what something we were interested in ordering looked like. Also he spoke to us about the new addition to their menu... Breakfast tacos! Which all looked and I’m sure tasted amazing as the Nutella, strawberry and banana taco that we got in the house. The breakfast taco that we had is basically Nutella banana strawberry and whipped cream with a pancake. It was absolutely genius! The thickness and how fluffy the pancakes were made everything even better in my opinion. Highly recommend. Thanks New Village Cafe for the amazing experience!
Went for breakfast. I had chicken and waffles, my friend had eggs Benedict. Both were delicious. I met the owner, he was awesome, service was amaze. I will go back . Highly recommend.
The owner/host was extremely pleasant and made the visit a complete joy. The food was delicious and fresh and very well portioned.
Good food at a good price. They changed their menu from a while back, though. It is no longer filled with interesting eggs benedict plates. The poached eggs were perfect but the overall menu was less interesting than before.
Owner and the waiters are very customer friendly. They do get a lot of orders to-go during weekend brunch/lunch. Expect your order to be delayed for a bit, even if you dont see a lot of customers in the cafe. The Omelets and the Full English Breakfast are my go to orders
We stayed for 3 nights in San Francisco back in May 2015, our tour guide showed us the New Village Cafe and we had our breakfast there for two mornings...the food was brilliant well priced and the owner made us feel more than welcome. At our first breakfast, the owner asked if I wanted my toast made with sour dough bread... I didnt know what it was so ordered the white. he sent to our table two complimentary slices of sour dough toast for us to try... I fell in love with sour dough bread...The only regret I had was that on the third morning in San Francisco we left so early that I didnt get a chance to go back to the New Village Cafe... I would highly recommend this friendly cafe should you ever be in San Francisco.
Good food and service-minded staff, Nice traditionel food, and pancakes lighter than air! The restaurant is really cozy:)
Super friendly staff, great service. The Taco pancakes are delicious as well the other breakfast plates.
Very kind. Out of town and didnt know about packing. Gave me coins for my meter. Great great food. I especially loved the waffles. Try it.
I dont often do reviews, but the service and their pancake tacos are incredible! The people working there are super welcoming and friendly; a must to check out in SF.
Scrambles were delicious with fresh ingredients. Dont miss the pancake tacos, though - they are to die for.
I don’t usually write reviews but honestly, this was one of the worst breakfasts and breakfast experiences I’ve ever had. I went here based off of all of the great reviews but unfortunately didn’t have that same experience. My coffee and breakfast came out cold. My eggs benedict was drenched in hollandaise sauce and ruined the whole meal. The server was really friendly but didn’t give great service when it came to remembering that I ordered decaf and had to wait awhile for a refill. I just expected more when paying $40 for breakfast.
Service was terrible! Waited over 1 hour for our food.I had to ask what was happening to our food then it looked like waiter found our ticket . Seams never turned in to cooking staff. When food finally came my husbands oatmeal didnt have its brown sugar it was supposed to have. My plate was supposed to have toast I had to ask again. Was then given toast. While this happen I watched at least 4 people leave from counter who got tired of waiting for food. I also saw another family waiting a long time for their food and was being told sorry it was taking so long. Food was okay nothing special! Dont waste your time here !
Pancakes and eggs fine. Anything else total pukefest. Chicken burrito and fried chicken want to give it back. 😵🤢
Very basic diner. But if you are looking for the traditional diner feel, look no further. I loved the food and the staff was very friendly.
Awesome experience and very friendly staff. Nice low key spot to get some amazing breakfast for a reasonable price. Simple yet relaxing environment, with surprisingly great breakfast. Exceeded my expectations for a diner, way exceeded.
Their service was phenomenal. The owner is extremely nice and was more than willing to talk with us and give us cool things to do around the city. We were here on vacation, and it is by far the best breakfast place we went to while in San Francisco.
Have eaten breakfast a couple times here on the weekend. The food is standard diner fare and they refill the coffee with good frequency. Very affordable; has that great diner all-are-welcome feel.
I stopped into The Village Cafe and was blown away by their fresh biscuits and homemade red eye gravy. As someone born and raised in the south with some of the best buscuits in the country at my disposal, Ive had a few over the years. Most of the time Im sorry I ordered them, even when the place says they are great...not here, they were fantastic! The place itself is clean and quaint and the service were on it. Highly recommend this place for breakfast!#breakfast #sanfrancisco #eatsf
Excellent service and the food was OMG great. Very friendly and fast and the coffee was incredible. The price was very very reasonable.
Loved the Sweet Pancake taco! Also had the Royal Benedict
Ordered the 3 amigos. Food was served in adequate time, but was only given one napkin. When I asked for another napkin, was ignored. Took a napkin from another table, but as my wife heard my request, she asked host for napkin. At that point, host was engaged in personal conversation via his wireless earpiece not paying adequate attention to his guests. Will not be returning.👎
The chicken and waffles are awesome! Really friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
I searched on Google for a breakfast restaurant near Sutter/Gough where we are staying & this place came up. It was really nice! A typical American local cafe - no frills, with plenty of local residents, good coffee (in randomly selected mugs..love that!) & a well-cooked breakfast! We loved the decor & our daughters loved the revolving seats in front of the counter. Couldnt ask for more. A real gem in our opinion!!
The farmers scramble was great a good mix of scrambled eggs and vegetables (spinach, tomato, mushroom, onions and cheese. On the side where fresh cut potatoes seasoned. They do have a unisex bathroom it is dine in or carryout. It is family friendly location and the owner was really cool. Actually from Chicago. The reason why I gave him a four was because of the owners character and the food. The reason he didnt get a 5 was because the bathroom is clean but a little decoration or remodel would go a long way. Plus there wasnt any full breakfast meal. Meaning Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, pancakes, and hashbrowns. I am definitely coming here again.
Food was great and the customer service was top notch. Pancake tacos were yum.
I was visiting the city for my birthday and came to this little hole in the wall because the reviews were good. Oh my goodness you will not be disappointed. The first time i came i ordered the sante fe skillet, so yummy! The flavors were amazing! My friends and i will be back everytime we come to the city!
Great service, delicious food served quickly. Lovely local vibe
Not happy with the service I had at this restaurant. There is only one server working there and I feel like he has never worked in a service industry before. Worst customer experience I have ever had in SF.
