Mike is amazingly patient & professional! My grandmother used to always tell me, Give the job to the person who knows how to do it. Well, that describes Mike perfectly...knowledgeable, patient & diligent!

Absolutely brilliant. Mike is very knowledgeable and good to talk to. All the motors we took to them have been made perfect, and others were honestly diagnosed and advised against a very costly repair. Its certainly a pity if what I hear about them closing is true.

I was looking to get a non functioning bathroom ceiling extractor fan repaired. I tried just about every electrical repair outfit in San Francisco and no one wanted to know. Since I was pretty sure the problem was the electric motor, as a last resort I searched for electric motor repair and McKee and Strub came up. So I took the fan assembly down to their shop. Mike was friendly and welcoming and was happy to look at the motor. He stopped all the other stuff he was doing, spent about an hour on the motor and repaired it while I waited. While it would have been cheaper to just replace the motor, without a part number, sourcing a new motor off the internet would have been too hit and miss, so my other alternative was to throw the entire unit away and buy a new one, which probably would have also required modifying the housing in the bathroom ceiling - all getting expensive. Fixing the motor was my cheapest viable option and Mike was the only person I found after a lot of calls who was prepared to help.Mike is old school. He will try and turn his hand to fix anything electrical, if you ask nicely and are prepared to pay.

Before I retired from woodworking several years ago, the cabinet shop that I worked at in the East Bay regularly took motors, some virtual relics, to McKee & Strub for servicing and always got superb results along with helpful, knowledgeable advice. Just recently I had one more delightful encounter with them: I had been fooling around with a reel-to-reel tape deck that has been with me for some 50 years (believe it!), sorting out some basically mechanical issues, when the drive motor appeared to crap out. It finally dawned on me to call McKee & Strub. I was advised that the issue was probably the capacitor (run type as opposed to the start only type capacitor more familiar to me), pointed me in the right direction to get a new capacitor, and two days later I have a tape deck that functions as well as it ever has for half a century!

Shops like this are becoming a thing of the past. We need to keep these shops alive.
