My uncle has a small bar counter in his house, and he is always looking for a new bottle of wine or a cocktail to add to his collection in his minibar. Last Saturday, we went to a wine shop near our place. My uncle happily conversed with a man who told him a lot about wine. He also bought a few bottles.
Alyssa such a pleasant person to be around and so welcoming to each and every person at the outside patio, but then you come inside The Market and thats her domain! Then we meet Sarah, so knowledgeable and a sweetheart! Excited to see all the new wines that come up in the wine club! Love these down to earth folks Sorry Alyssa if we have missed spelled your name! You rock!
The bar has a super nice trash can. The table is located inside the ferry terminal, along the central aisle. Good home. The amount of glass wine is impressive and the quality is very high. You can eat 1 plate of cold meat or cheese (1 local number!). They also serve beer. Frankly, the super lunch break. On the other hand, it is expensive but considering the place and quality...
I will buy many wines at this impressive wine shop again for sure. All the wines that I was looking for were all at this wonderful place. Their marvelous interiors were perfectly suited to this wine shop. I am very happy and grateful that I came here. A reputable wine shop in my area. Bravo! Until the next visits!
Couple of beers and an amazing selection of Cheese with a baguette. This place is a lovely stop after a busy day.Beers and wines from around the region and the world if required, the cheese was out of this world, in particular the goats cheese. The cheese we chose was the Special Cheese Combo with marinated olives and mushrooms and a fig chutney.Chris served us and offered excellent service.
Ive been to this wine shop a week ago. I was really fascinated by the great collection of wines they had. The staff was indeed knowledgeable about wines. She helped me in choosing a perfect wine that I could give to my colleague as a birthday present. This wine shop was truly magnificent. I will visit this shop again!
Lunch and dinner menus are also available, as well as a wide variety of delectable wine and beer. Their house was kept spotless and tastefully decorated. The food on their menu was filling and delicious. We had steak the last time we were here, and it was perfectly delectable and the best steak weve ever had!
If you like to try great wines, paired with delicious food, this is the place for you! They have a great charcuterie menu and a regular menu. Of course, we tried both. Also, the staff are very friendly and unpretentious. We will definitely be back. Thank you for a fun, romantic Valentines day!
This is a good place to start learning about wines and other products from this region. The staff is a very interesting person to talk with, and he is excellently knowledgeable about the area and the products he has on offer. We really enjoyed the visit with him and would recommend anyone in the area to drop by for a lesson at this Wine Shop.
This is the first time Ive ever seen a farmers market like this! Before April, I intend to go to the market once a week as a new snowbird. I have some tasty honey as well as some fresh fruits and vegetables. I appreciated the fact that there were both nutritious and delicious choices.
Its a wine shop with many bottles, but the heart of this shop is Michael. He is a wonderful, easy-going, and friendly person who gives you taste many wines with poetry and philosophy. Also, he is a very creative person if you drop in, Michael will show you nice things. I will come back again!
Enjoyed the Marconi almonds and the Rose. Jason was especially considerate in allowing me to charge my IPhone.
We arrived without reservations and shared a large table inside the room. I appreciated the flexibility, prompt, cheerful, and knowledgeable service. You can have wines by the glass, or you browse the wine room and choose a bottle yourself. We will come back and recommend it to my friends and family.
The staves were so friendly and polite as well. They had massive wide selections of wine to choose from. Aside from that, they had also beverages that you could try as well. Great ambiance! Very good wine and food. This place will be one of my one-stop-shop for wine. I will surely recommend this shop to my relatives and friends.
Ive stopped by a few times over the years and always have found this oenophile enclave pleasing.Ive enjoyed a glass or two when the place was packed and bustling (a weekday early evening, waiting for the ferry), as well as when the ambiance was chill and cozy (a noontime toast to a friend on his birthday) and, most recently, when a scaled-back service from a storefront bar is necessitated due to Covid-19 (a mid-afternoon NYE 2020, having a cup of bubbly--hey, youve got to start celebrating sometime...).No matter what the circumstance might be, the welcoming,, hospitable staff, charming setting and extraordinary vintages make this establishment one of the Ferry Buildings most consistent pleasures.
I am not a wine drinker and so cant speak to the quality of the wines other than I enjoyed my glass. They have a wide selection of not only wines but beers too.The staff were attentive and were more than happy to suggest a wine for me. We sat and enjoyed some of the charcuterie while chatting away. Its not cheap but its certainly a lovely way to spend an afternoon. They even have phone chargers so you can power up while youre winding down.
Cory and Artemio are the best! They made a wine experience, in the middle of a pandemic, seem so seamlessly! 5 stars to them and their service! Another 5 stars to the food and drinks :)
Lots of good choices, excellent services plus no pressure to buy.
Very knowledgeable and enjoyed the wine.
A wine bar that combines some of the best eats at the Ferry Plaza... I dont think I could ask for more than Cowgirl Creamerys Mt. Tam, cured meat from Boccalone and Prather Ranch; satisfyingly complete with a glass of wine ... or two. This adorable little liquor shop includes a bar and just a few high-top tables for patrons to enjoy drinks and relax.$31.75 Italian Salumi & Cowgirl Cheese Combo - 5 oz. half round of Mt. Tam, Prather Ranch Soppressata, Boccalone Lonza, Prather Ranch Country Ham, w/ Boccalone whole grain mustard, olive mix, Acme Epi baguette, McQuades Celtic Fig & Ginger Chutney:My friend and I shared this platter along with a couple glasses of white and red. I dont remember which wines we had, but they were delicious. Its been a while since Ive had Mt. Tam triple-cream cheese. It is just as smooth and buttery as I remember. The Acme epi is one of my favorite breads as well. It really is an excellent combination. The soppressata had a chewier texture, while the lonza was more delicate, and the country ham was sliced super thin. The fig and chutney were nice accoutrements, but I usually dont feel the need to add on. The bread, cheese, and meat are already so good together.Im sure Ill be back to enjoy more wine in the future. Perhaps next time Ill try the burrata as well.
I highly recommend this wine shop because they have an excellent selection of wines! They really have great wines, and theyre also very affordable! Youre not going to regret visiting this wine shop!
Last Friday, I visited this shop, and I got a wonderful experience. The beers and champagne were very good and fantastic. Besides, their place was very good to visit, for it was clean, not crowded, and comfortable. Also, I left bringing a bottle of wine that I bought in their shop. Thank you so much. Till next time, guys!
Red and White wine is truly everything I have ever wanted for a neighborhood winery shop. This place is really magnificent. They had a huge collection of wine to choose from. The staff was so friendly and helpful in choosing a perfect wine. This wine shop is a must-shop in this town. If you want to have a drink.
Came to the wine bar before dinner on a Friday at around 540pm. Place was full and needed to wait around 5 mins for a seat - place has high turnover of seats so not too long a wait.Great selection of wines and the bar tenders gave good recommendations. We had the burrata and it was absolutely delicious - definitely recommend if you want something fresh and light to nibble on before dinner.Definitely worth popping in for a drink or two.
Love the ferry building, the wine merchant is spectacular 👌 with a wonderful selection of wines and beverages. The wine selection is incredible, Sicilian, Portugal, Italian and many more... you need to check it out.
I am so glad I discovered this wine shop! I am not really fond of wines, but because of this wine shop, my impression has changed! I will surely recommend this shop to all my friends who love drinking wine!
I like this place, but depending on when you come they give you yesterday’s bread which is disappointing 😐... especially because their freshly baked bread with burrata and a glass of rose is phenomenal! If they served freshly baked bread all the time it would def be 4 stars - now it’s a bit of hit and miss.
Great selection — best in the city — with focus on quality and character instead of cache or pretension. Owner Peter is simply a genius at finding the small vintners with high quality output, in the US and everywhere else.
Excellent spot for taking a load off, sipping some wine, and people watching. The bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. If you rely on them to point you to a wine or two you won’t regret it.
Loved all the shops, especially the sweet shops.
If I could give no stars I would
I just walked out of this place...I was looking at the menu, and when someone finally appeared behind the bar, I asked him about the section on the menu that said “sweet stuff”. I didn’t know if it meant champagne or something like a dessert wine.I asked him, and he looked at me like he couldn’t believe the question. He said the champagne was at the top of the menu under “sparkling wine”.So I asked him again what “sweet stuff” meant, thinking I’d like to try one of those selections if it was port or another dessert wine.At this point, the angry server said - very rudely- “Well, what is it you’re looking for?” I said that I may be interested in sparkling wine, and then he reached over and rudely tapped my menu - so hard that I almost dropped it - and said “Then forget about this” (indicating the “sweet stuff” section). He may be just an angry person in general, or maybe just having a bad day, but either way his customer service skills this morning were severely lacking. Makes me never want to return to this place.
I went there with my friends to get her birthday started off but the guy who take care of us was so rude. I ordered 2 carafes but he said “That’s?” So?And he gave us 2 glasses of wineAnd when I asked for check he was laughing so hard at us my friends was so mad but is her birthday so I decided to leave before we finish our wineSo disappointed
Great place to take in the sights and sounds of the farmers market while sipping on some vino. The Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant has fairly reasonable prices for glasses and carafes. My boyfriend and I were able to get a half carafe (about 3 glasses) of a red recommended by the waiter for less than 15 dollars. The cheese plates and snacks seem a bit pricey - I would recommend getting your snacks elsewhere in the ferry building. This spot also has a wide selection of bottles to take home with you and the staff are very willing to help you find your next favorite.
Great wine selection. The people that work here know their wine. At the bar ask for Jason. Hes here every day but Thursday and Sunday.
We enjoy stopping at the wine bar for refreshment. Of course there is a great selection but what made this special was our server Chris. He was so attentive and knowledgable. He recommended a few wines that fit our tastes perfectly. It was so good that we bought a few bottles right away. So as we sipped our bottle of champagne (Lacelot) Chris guided us to something to enjoy at home. They are lucky to have such a personable expert. We will come back because of him.
I have enjoyed many lazy Friday evenings at the wine bar here, sharing a bottle of wine and some bread and cheese while forgetting about the stresses of the workweek. And I also joined their wine club, and get 2 bottles of very unique and interesting wines each month. I love trying wines from wineries and locales new to me. The staff here seems to know about every bottle on their shelves and they can find me the perfect wine for any price or occasion.
Great place!
Nice wine selection. Asked the associate from some help in picking out a red wine for us to drink later. He suggested one that was a little above the price point we were looking for, but the recommendation was excellent and the wine turned out to be worth the price.
Awesome place for incredible wine. Truffle burrata... what’s not to love about that? Well I’ll tell you - spent $492 at this bar on Sunday loved our experience. I arrive Wednesday evening at 8.30pm (closing time is 9pm) to ‘sorry ma’am we are closed... no your not, lots of people still enjoying wine. I wasn’t drunk & was keen to buy some beautiful Napa cab sav to take home as well as enjoy a glass. So disappointed 😔
Best wine bar and wine merchant in the City!! Really good lite bites, great cheeses and salumi. Great wine Club as well!
Great fun and plenty to look at, a great variety of food also.
Service slow. Understaffed with one server. Fairly basic inventory. Wine store in a mall.
Great wine selection as well as meat/cheese plates. When I lived in the City, I would often stop in here for a glass of wine and quick bite to eat before heading to dinner. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and great about offering good recommendations.
Great selection of beers, even more wines of course. A bit small and pretty busy so we occasionally have to wait for a table.
Always a good first stop in the Ferry Market Building. Enjoyed the opportunity to try different champagne and cheese. Combo price was a bargain.
The standard for top-notch wine bar and retail wines and liquor. Staff is knowledgeable and professional. Great wine club and cheese plates.
Great place. A huge selection of wines around the world and also the beer menu is very ambitious. We really enjoyed it.
Very neat little win bar right in the middle of the ferry building. Enjoyed sitting and having a craft beer right in the hallway watching everyone shop. The wines and liquors available for purchase offer an amazing selection and a very unique pit stop on a day strolling around the Embarcadero.
Feel good here all the time. Casual and easy to try alone
Are we in sf or napa. geez so many awesome too choose from
A great selection of wine including from Europe and they allow you to bring in food from outside as well! Bring in your fav sandwich from next door or even your home made stuff and pair it with any of their wines
Went during a special event, with one of the visiting wine merchants (from Colorado, I think) who managed the whole event - even going around to the tables asking and helping patrons with wine samples and great pairing recommendations. Good pairings of cheese and meat were available, and the wine flows freely in this joint.
Decently priced for a couple glasses of wine and a great place to stop
Helpful staff too time with a wine noob
This service is always friendly and usually fast. The servers are very knowledgeable about wines and can offer recommendations.
Had a bottle of white wine, the server recommend a great bottle. The price was very reasonable. A great place to hangout and people watch with a great bottle of wine.
What a great place. And huge selection.
While this place is fast and fun, the quality of the wine flights and by-the-glass offerings has declined greatly. service is great and the servers knowledgeable, but pick up a bottle from the store -- both cheaper and better.
Really good but wine works wonders so you must come back often.,
The wine flights are a good splurge. the choices are a good way to experiment and of course you can buy bottles to go. staff is very knowledgeble
The last 2 years I had great experiencesite there after races and events nearby. This year the bar staff is rude and lacks any type of I like my job attitude.People serving the public should be personable. Most recent, the wine guy ignored 3 of us at tables due to his very important conversation with a woman at the bar.Helloooooo......I decided today I will just go elsewhere in the ferry building for a glass of wine.Tourists are your bread and butter.. obtw... I live south of sf.
Excellent place to with friends for chilling.
Im not able to give the Wine Merchant any stars (however the system wont let me) perhaps a MINUS STAR would be considered appropriate. I am having the worst experience even after speaking to the manager, Sarah Knoeffler of the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant in San Francisco.I purchased (February 28, 2016) three bottles of Tequila, at a cost of $379.88, which were to be sent to my home in Malibu, Ca. On March 3, UPS sent a notice that read; damage to package contents notifying sender (aka Wine Merchant). On March 26, I called Ms. Knoeffler and she informed me that it was my problem and that I needed to handle the situation. After a little convincing to the contrary...she said she would handle the matter and get back to me...As of todays date no word and no tequila! I hope to get this matter resolved however, Im not at all hopeful it will be soon. They have my money and I have no tequila...Im not a very happy camper. So buyer beware!!!!!
Great wine & beers selection.Located inside the Ferry Terminal.Pricey and with mostly middle-aged or older clientele.
Wonderful place to wait for the ferry and enjoy a glass of wine or two
Great place for shopping eating and hanging out.
A good wine selection averagely priced though I was rushed by the bartender who didnt seem very interested in talking me through the menu. Overall I prefer to go to Market if Im waiting for people.
I have had various good and bad experiences at this venue. The selection is great, staff is hit or miss, price is higher then other stores. First time I went in they were not helpful, the second time I went in a women helped me and gave me excellent recommendations of which I purchased.
This place is amazing as it offers the best of both realms of wine; they have a wide selection of smaller, hand-crafted classics from california, france and italy and yet an equally impressive array of wines that are less well known such as the austrian gruner veltiner and corsican wines that are such a treat to try. Ive been to several fleet nights, the italian vemouth (carpano, etc..) fleet was incredible and educational and fun! This is a place for people who like wine and are curious about knowing and tasting more be they San Franciscans, Marinites, Californians or world citizens.
Great selection, friendly staff, delicious food. Check it out!
Always pleasant always helpful- jason is a favorite barman..
Excellent wine selection. Friendly service.
Fun place to hang out and grab a drink
I thought it was overpriced, but good selections nonetheless.
Ask for Jason. Brilliant place to pause and voyeur.for a spell.
Does this store support health care for its staff? The so called SF Mandates are not taxes applied to the customers bills so much as costs like rent or utilities. Since the store is on SF Port Commission property this is disingenuous to add on the bill in this way
Try the harbenaro olive oil.. expensive but worth it!
Delightful place for a glass of wine, great selection
Great selection and by the glass list
What a great Chilean wine!
After work wine!
Its a nice place to have a glass of wine
Not a place for exceptional value... Caters primarily to tourists looking for a San Francisco experience.
Amanzing wine selection. Stop here for wine and cheese pairings.
Nice selection of imported wines.
It could be more accessible and cheaper
Amazing selection, Jason was great
Great wine selection at the bar
Lovely no pretensions.
Great Wine and service
