A great Japanese market in the heart of Japan town. Its on the small side but they have everything! The best thing is there selection of raw fish, ready-made sushi and bento boxes, made fresh daily. They also have a nice variety of bakery goods and my favorite rice crackers and snacks. They have a tiny section of dishware, but theres always a great selection of bowls, sauce dishes and kitchenware!
Absolute gem. Its small, but has quality products. I go to bigger Japanese markets and dont see anything I want to buy, but here there are lots of good things. Many Hokkaido products.
Very clean, decent prices, very friendly staff. One of the best Japanese grocery stores in San Jose.
Best Japanese market in San Jose. Love the fresh food and all the candy and soda choices, I was told by a clerk they always get new shipments of different things so I started coming every week to see what surprises I might find. Oh and tip for Best variety in daily lunch items come early cause they go fast!
Nice small Japanese market, if they will stock Katsu sauce I would add another star.
Simply the best place in DTSJ to get Japanese anything. May it continue to serve future generations.
Ah, how can one resist their plum wine / umeshu? Obviously one cannot. Otherwise the store itselfs pretty well stocked, so not complaints there.
This cozy supermarket has the best memories left! Anything theyre selling isnt expensive. The entire market place was too large to drive around, so its easier to choose your options. Everything was very warm and welcoming to make all your requests. Im suggesting it to everyone! Id like to come out here again and again.
A great little grocery store with all the basics plus chock full of resh and packaged Japanese fruits, vegetables and food.
Fresh food. Good place to get some quick lunch.
Not impressed at all, I’d rather drive to Mitsuwa instead, much more stuff and it surrounded by good restaurants as well
Very cool store, alot of the items have what the item *Is* in english near the Barcode, the ppl in here were very friendly and up with the Mask and 6ft mandates so 🤷♀️🎶
Always clean and so many options of fruits, veggies, and drinks. if you walk to the back they have food that is ready to eat; sushi, sandwiches, etc.
I Got some of their sushi it was great.
Another Nijiya market have place in san jose that i will stop by if we go to san jose, sashimi go fast we love salmon sashimi and this was second time that I couldn’t buy cause it was out, we went there around 7:30, fresh sashimi gone, vegetable was fresh, and also fruit, small supermarket but clean, neatly, nice, service was fast
Nice local store specialized in Asian food and groceries.
Small grocery shop with good variety. Sushi and sashimi were quite good and moderately priced. Staff was very helpful
This is a nice Japanese market in the heart of Japantown. They have a lot of imported items that are hard to find anywhere else. The prices are reasonable and there are always items on sale. It is in a very small building and there are only 5 aisles. They are still able to fit a lot of items on the shelves. I was able to get a parking spot in front at 11am on a Wednesday. They are limiting the number of people allowed in the store and a mask is required to enter. They recommend you go by yourself in not in groups. There was a man at the door regulating entry into the store.
Small store, variety items. Pretty convenient local store
Nijiya Market is a small Japanese Market located in San Jose Japantown. It is small when compared to Mitsuwa but seems to have all the essentials at a slightly cheaper rate. It does not have a dedicated parking lot, so you must find metered street parking, which is not easy on weekdays but is manageable on weekends when it is free. I’ve been to Nijiya a couple of times specially to pick up prepackaged sushi from the ready-to-eat section at the back. The sushi is priced between $8-$10 per box depending on the specific combination you go with. Quality is fine for sushi bought at a super-market considering the price paid for it.Price-wise it is a lot cheaper than the prepackaged sushi you get at Mitsuwa, where its generally in the $10-$13 range. I feel the quality is also better at Nijiya as compared to Mitsuwa, hence I keep coming back here periodically.
I visited on Dec 31 so it was busy with a long line outside. It wrapped down street and around corner. Food supplies were low. Employees were polite and friendly. I grabbed Japanese necessities for NY dinner but things I could get at Safeway I left to get that there.
Favorite grocery store around. A very compact one with a large variety of selection. Pricing is reasonable for Japan-imported products. You can find almost everything you will need for Japanese cuisines. Especially love their store-brand groceries including Japanese buns and vegetables. Staffs are very friendly and helpful even during this crisis time.
I love Nijiya Market! They have all kinds of awesome things, especially, of course, Japanese products. I never leave there without a couple of packs of Black Black gum (which has caffeine!), and they have great teas, snacks, produce and meat. Its not very big, but its a fun place to get groceries.
A Covid-19 safe environment.Good products.Courteous staff.
Great place and awesome variety!
Love the finger sandwiches!
We always like to shop at Nijiya Market. They have everything we are looking for in Japanese food & ingrediance. Plus it is located near other Japantown shops we like to visit.
My absolute favorite Japanese marketplace! Also one of the very few I’ve been able to find in the area. From varying assortments of daifuku and other Japanese snacks, to carrying Sapporo Reserve, to having fresh bento boxes and an assortment of fresh Japanese nummies on a daily basis I have nothing but love for Nijiya Marketplace.
Love this place for sushi grade fish and green tea. Japanese condiments and veggies! High quality and good prices.
Best place for 1-stop shopping. They have fresh produce, an extensive take out section, pottery, condiments, noodles, rice, snacks, desserts and beverages. I would give them 1,000 stars, but Google only goes up to 5. Will definitely visit again.
Came for the tea and matcha selections, left with way more from their bakery and pickled veggies section. Love this place and the selections they have are not common at, say, 99 Ranch or Mitsuwa
They have some nice selection of ready made sushi and fish.
A good place for groceries shipping. You could find many Japanese ingredients, cookies and drinks here. Staffs here are nice. You can also find many good shops around. So its really good to come here for groceries shopping during weekend.
Great little Japanese market, extremely fresh. The price is not your Walmart supercenter but the quality and service is fully worth it. I usually pick up prepared sushi in a hurry or excellent meats and veggies
This market has been here for ages. Its Japanese products are always top notch
Nijiya Market is a gem.The store has a small town feel. The market is located in the middle part of the block.Street parking. Not in a strip mall.A surplus of hard to find items from Japan.Fresh produce and prepared meals.
Great niche groceries. Lots of good stuff!
Dont always have everything, usually do, but selection for the size of the store, the price and service are all great
A bit small in size compare to the one in SF or Saratogas Mitsuwa. Fewer selection but also less traffic. Good for ppl who hate to wait in line.
Found the mochi I was looking for. Love it a bit small though.
Good selection of food, groceries, meat, sushi to go, snacks, drinks and Asian cooking supplies. Stay Safe & Be Kind.
Very friendly workers and great little store for your grocery needs. They have fresh vegetables and great premade meals in the back. Highly recommend!
I love this place, best thinly sliced meats for stir fry and hot pot, and has sushi grade fish pieces
Everyone is always friendly and helpful at this market It may be small but its full of great products
Kind, friendly, and find exactly what I needed
This place really is a gem! The staff is nice and you’d be surprised at the level of variety of each product. I love picking up sashimi here on fridays. They also have a decent selection of fresh produce. Love this place!
Fresh fruit and vegetables, good place to pick up lunch/dinner. They limit the number of people inside, safe place to shop during the quarantine.
Why only one star I was charged twice at the cashier and it was not a small purchase I bought a lot of cool stuff I couldn’t wait to try a lot of the mushrooms that I buy and the soups but the cashier forgot to ring up one last item she said she voided the entire purchaseShe did not successfully void the transaction and it showed up on my bank statement this was on a Thursday and I didn’t notice the statement until SaturdayI was charged twiceOnce was for an original amount that excluded the last item then rang up again with the total sum and the additional item I was charged twice
Yummy food and snacks and great service!
Awesome Japanese foods
We Always everything we want& need here!! We wish they had another location closer to Morgan Hill,CA!!
Quiet, clean and friendly staffed store that carries many Japanese goods and more. Just dont plan on a trip here on a Sunday its closed on Sundays.
Great place to get some Japanese ingredients. Fairly small but friendly staff.
Pricey compared to other asian markets but a lot cleaner. There selection of meat is tiny with only one cooler. Sushi and fish selection is better than meats. There is about two coolers worth of that. Some fresh Japanese produce is also available but Im not to familiar with that. Parking is terrible and curbside. Go during off peak hours!
Nice place! very friendly service
Good place to come and get fresh fish if you are making sushi. This is a Japanese store so they mainly carry Japanese items. You can find staple such as milk, eggs and butter but selection are very limited and prices are on the high side for these convenient items.
They have what you want and more.
Good assortment of Japanese foods. Fantastic premade meals and snacks in the cold section. Produce always appears fresh. Limited selection of meat products.
My go to store for my Asian cooking...Safeway stopped carrying tonkatsu sauce...and black bean garlic sauce!Today I got a piece of manju for myself and Botan Ame for my grandkids!
Good place to buy Sushi and Combination Japanese Food Plates
They have some Awamori,Okibawan spirits.
Found sesame ice cream at a reasonable price
Feeling for a quick and cheap sushi lunch? Come here! They have quite a good selection of food. From onigiris to bento boxes to sushi rolls. Their drinks selections are AMAZING! After being to Japan and being amazed at the drinks at 7-11, I thought there was no way I would find subtly sweet drinks in the states, but I was so excited when I came here and saw that the variety they provide was almost as good at Japans 7-11! I highly recommend coming here for a quick bite or if you need Japanese groceries!
Another San Jose institution. A must visit for Japanese food and products. I still call it Dobashi Market. The original family name. I highly recommend this place. Also stroll the local Japan town for many Joys of the Japanese community. Fantastic history.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and its a great place to pick up fresh fish and Japanese products!
Convenient, pretty much has everything I need, & a lot of eateries around for food to go!
When I get in the mood for Japanese food or cooking this is one of a few places in San Jose I go to shop for groceries. The tough part is finding parking, there is metered street parking in front and adjacent streets. The store is small with narrow aisles and not typically a place to buy large quantities of any one item. They have a good selection of rice, soy sauce, vinegar, tofu, nori, etc. and also have prepared food such as sushi, bento, and desserts. For best selection I was told to come early. They also have fruits and vegetables, frozen food and candy. The workers were friendly and helful.
My main reason for coming to the market is that they have the freshest eggs (unless you own your own hen) in the greater SF Bay Area. These eggs have the most deeply orange colored yoke and break so clean its like they were just laid hours ago. Beyond the eggs are specially cut and prepared meats and fish, as well as a small but high quality selection of fresh fruits and vegetables. You can also find almost any Asian bottled or canned product that you would need for cooking here - most UPC tags under the products are labeled in both Japanese and English (which is a big help when looking for that item you have never seen before). Great staff, super clean, lots of good metered parking nearby.
Great selection of sushi takeout
The place is really clean. Easy to access and you could always find all the Japanese goodies here. Personally, I love their ready made meal choices (sushi, bento and spam musubi)
Love this spot. Always has exactly what our partner need when we cook. Close to home too! Parking can be tight.
Great little traditional Japanese market. Nice sushi there when available. Got to get it before night time or you lose out.
Great selection of groceries, snacks, drinks, and japanese fooods . I frequent their San Mateo location a lot this one is ALMOST as good. The San Mateo one has a sashimi bar that you can order by the pound so you have fresh sashimi or sushi at home. Theres also cooked food that you can just pick up to eat right away
Small, but they have a good selection. My wife is Japanese and she likes this place. It is a lot less frustrating the going to Mitzuwa. Parking is street parking only with meters.
This shop is too small - itd be understandable if we were in the suburbs of Tokyo, but here?!? Id rate it higher if I lived nearby, for the convenience, and for not having to pay street side parking.I ended up spending a couple minutes here browsing and then drove to Mitsuwa instead.
Great service with friendly helpful staff. Nice size as well so you arent running around all day looking for stuff...highly recommended.
I love shopping at this store
Lots of snacks. I mean, its Nijiya. They now also have ice-cream boba, 10/10 will be back.
Love this market. It was on the way to school and I got to pick up my dinner here at 20% off. My total came out to be $5.19 for a bowl of salmon roe, four slices of salmon, and topped with the small fish eggs (forgot what that was called). Such a satisfying meal. Would prefer this over the food on campus!
A quaint little Japanese grocery store. I come here to look at their new deals and to see if there is any new kit Kat flavors. Staff is friendly and place is clean. Not much more you can ask for.
Best Sushi to go
Japanese grocery store and has fresh veggies. Not aware of Japanese items so cannot comment. I went for some quick veggies.
Lots of items from Japan are sold here; it comes in really handy for all the items i need for cooking and it always tastes delicious. (:
