We almost missed a great night! But Susie, the owner, was gracious and got us situated. Her team was quick and friendly. The food was excellent - we tried the flatbread special, beet & pear salad and charcuterie tray. All three plates were excellent, with well balanced flavors. The wine menu offers pre-set tasting flights, build your own flights or by the glass. A large patio was comfortable and inviting. Five Vines has a great story, and they’ve opened a new restaurant, Roots. Looking forward to trying it next visit. Thanks for a lovely evening.
We dined at Five Vines last night for the first time, and we couldn’t believe it took us this long to find such a gem! The wine, service, and food were all excellent. We ordered the artichoke dip, bruschetta, olive tapenade, sausage board, and Mac and cheese, and everything was delicious! While not a tapas restaurant, we loved that there were many shareable options, which is difficult to find in the area. This will definitely be a go-to date night spot in the future. The patio is also dog friendly, which is always a plus for us. 10/10 recommend!
Cool european vibe mixed with the wild west. Youll want to try the mystery flight, which allows you to guess 3 high quality wines. Cheese and meat are a must with delicious options all around. Great place for a date / friends night on the town. Prices are a little north of jumping up and down.
I visit this superb restaurant from time to time as I like the ambiance that is outline this restaurant. The crew is extremely attentive and skilfull. The service is awfully rapid. Needless to say, the food you eat is great. I visited many times and I was never disappointed. The payment is honest. I recommend this restaurant to to all.
Our first time here and I will be returning! Friendly staff, good wine selection and excellent food.We had a brie cheese melt with pears and cranberries, accompanied with fresh, warm garlic breadsticks. Very tasty. As far as the wines, they serve a variety of wines from the state of California, in addition to other states and international. Most the wines are from boutique winerys. If you know what you like you are sure to find something to satisfy your desire. The location is perfectly centered in Old Town San Juan Capistrano.
Thank you for a lovely evening, spent outside in your cozy but COVID safe patio, with great service and delicious wine & beer, tasty flatbread, amazing salad and a yummy key lime pie. If we were local, this would be our go to spot.
Excellent hangout place. Small cozy intimate service. Good choices of wine and food. Great location. Live music, assuming only in the weekend.Service was very good considering how pack the place was. There were some construction going on and as a result was a bit difficult to find. But thats should be an once that is done mid 2020.
Always a pleasure coming here. Friendly staff. Family owned. Live music and small bites. Outdoor patio is wheelchair accessible. Interior is not wheelchair accessible as there are several steps down from street level. Try the “flying blind” tasting. A bit pricey, but if you guess which wines you’re drinking it’s free!!
Wonderful food and service. Great wine tasting flight and the all tru istic chocolate was fabulous!
This place gives first-rate service as well as tasty food. My favourite restaurant in the city. The meals arrived quick and the rates were economical. I recommend this place.
Very nice atmosphere, wish they had more vegan food options on the menu.
One of the most amazing wine bars you will ever visit. The family that runs the business welcomes you into the bar like a long lost relative and immediately makes you feel at home. Very intimate, perfect mood, and incredible wine and beer selection. A perfect place to unwind at the end of any day.
Honestly our FAVORITE place for date night. Great wine, adorable spot and incredible staff who (many) are also the sweetest family ever! We always look forward to going to Five Vines🙌🏼
Great experience in a charming part of town. If you want simple food and wine this is the place to find it. Try the meat and cheese boards. Lots of preselected wine flights (tasters) to choose from. Margarita pizza is yummy. Inside and outside seating. It can get packed on the weekends. Get in early, then enjoy a movie across the street.
Excellent variety of wines from wide range of places around the world. Great price point. Casual atmosphere with friendly staff. They offer wine flights and a wide range of food items including specials. A charming place for a great experience
Cutest little wine bar with good food
Just found this charming wine bar yesterday. They have an eclectic array of wines from around the world. Andrew, our server was very knowledgable, honest with his opinions and friendly. Decor is very nice. We didnt eat anything on this visit but the menu looked very good. This place is one block from the train station. Will come back soon
This place was adorable! The owners were amazing and made us feel welcomed. They had great recommendations. The inside area was cozy and there was a patio. Highly recommended. Thanks guys!
Such a great establishment, delicious food and a wonderful wine selection.
What a great place to try new wines and eat good food! We go there sometimes to get 2 flights of wines to taste. Sometimes we get food and wine for a meal. There are outside tables. The inside is 1/2 flight down some stairs. Parking is not easy, as usual in SJC. Park somewhere and take a stroll. The employees know what their doing.
Love this place. Lovely owner. Lots of wine selection. Food is superb, light. Good music.Super friendly atmosphere. Quaint.
This place is great. Quaint wine bar and surprisingly good food. A must visit.
Went here for my birthday and I love it! The ambiance is relaxing, the service is friendly, helpful, and courteous, and the wine selection is great! I tried a cheese plate and a sausage plate and loved both. They have wine pairing suggestions on the menu for all, but I pretty much ignored that and just ordered what I wanted, but it was nice to have. The cheese board comes with fruits, nuts, jams, and bread/crackers and the sausage plate comes with a selection of mustards. All were great!
Good service. Went in with my doggie and they were so friendly with him! The wines were good and the atmosphere outside was great. The cheeses were very strong but thats all about individual taste. Definitely would recommend to try!
Great wines and yummy food with friendly staff. Nice atmosphere and live music.
Those Gawd-DAMN CHEESE BALLS!! Melts in your mouth. Warm, inviting and low key family manning the bar. Excellent decor. Loved the wine rack on the wall. Awesome pay it forward chalkboard frames (Ask about it. Such a sweet idea.) Huge selection of wines for tastings, glass or by the bottle. Beer and Champagne, if youd rather. I was able to get wifi easily, just had to authenticate with a web browser. The pricing was fair compared to other wine bars Ive been to.All and all, an easy spot to stop in before dinner or for the heck of it.
Theres such a great vibe here. Its relaxed and fun. The service is great. Dont wanna sound cliché, but it kinda feels like family! (At least the kind of family that is chill, fun, and they love ya!)
Love this place! Great food, drinks and ambiance!!
Great selection of wines here. It has a very cozy bar vibe as opposed to a trendier wine bar vibe. If you prefer a more upscale trendy vibe go to Rancho Capistrano across the way. I dont think you can go wrong either way.
Best place for a family owned good time. Music is always great and the new menu is fantastic. If you want pretentious yuppie cookie cutter wine bar accompanied by sad covers of your favorite Guantanamo-bay torture tracks from jimmy buffet, go next door to that other place. If you want to be welcomed and treated like family without the awkward parts, go to five vines. Tell em Reyes sent ya. :)
A family own boutique wine bar, with very friendly and attentive staff. Wonderful wine selection and live music on weekends.
Family owned and operated. Great comfortable inviting place. Great small plates. Knowledgeable info.Beer and wine only. Still great fun for usual whiskey drinker.
Taken customers out to this spot several times (yes, we are the un-hip ones in white button-up shirts). The food is always good, the clientele is gorgeous, and the place always makes me feel like I am a little cooler.
Great local wine bar with a cozy atmosphere. Theyve got a great selection of wines with great staff to help you select what youre in the mood for. Its a great location in downtown SJC and, by far, better than any other wine spot nearby.
Super friendly family owned place. Its quiet and intimate. They dont even have a flat screen. Thats awesome!
Nice looking bar, but apparently understaffed. Waited about 20+ minutes for a glass of wine and had to go to the bar to follow-up. Also, a bit pricey. Afterwards, we found other places nearby that were more reasonable and offered later happy hours (we were there on a late Sunday afternoon). Friendly staff, but again, not enough of them.
Great place for wine and beer. Owners are very friendly and hospitable.
I cant get enough of this lovely place. They have delicious food, an incredible selection of wine, and perfect service. The ambiance is romantic but not too dark. I just wish I could come here every day to read or answer emails over a nice flight. They have live music certain days of the week and a nice outdoor patio. They have fleece blankets in case you want to be cozy and snuggle up. I think this is one of my favorite places in OC, or in California. I highly recommend the mushroom flatbread, the bruschetta or the mac n cheese.
Very nice, friendly fun service. Great Sunday afternoon outing. Charcuterie was excellent. Well be back!
Love this quaint little local wine bar. Small plates are great. Owners are very accomodating. Love it when they have mellow live music too.
I love this place! Great selection of wine, beautiful ambiance and superb service. Total awesomeness.
Well decorated. Small. Food was good. Nice wine list
Wine is fantastic, appetizers are great but most of all the service is the best. Owners Suzy and Randy give everyone first class service no matter if your drinking the house cab or Opus One!
The owners are very personable and made the experience great. I would recommend to anyone.
Amazing family owned, friendly and knowledgable wine bar. Ask about the super fun wine and beer clubs!
This place is amazing! The wine was excellent and the service was the best. I am TOTALY joining their beer club!
Great place to meet a small group for wine tasting or a craft beer! Dont forget the snacks!
Great place, but why close at 11 pm on a Saturday night?
Amazing wine bar with great selections! Also some great cheese and meats and small bites
Beautiful wine bar, creative design and decor! Must see if youre in the area and looking to try some unique, one of kind wines you cant find anywhere else!
Food was usual fare our server was argumentative and not attentive. Although we live near by not sure we would return due to our servers attitude, he soured our experience
What a fantastic cozy Wine Bar! Local, Friendly, Authentic - Must try: Signature Cheese Ball, Crackers and Apples - seriously delicious!
I love this family ownd wine bar. The wine was delicious and the food was fabulous and the music was all just ideal. Will deinitely be back.
Nice. Great service. Knowledgeable. Yummy
Warm Friendly Atmosphere. Great good.
Have visited twice when I was in the area. Very knowledgable staff, great ambience, I will always stop in
Varying selection of good beers and wine. Vibe.
Wonderful ambiance, warm and inviting! The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful about the wines.
Great ambiance, awesome live music, friendly service.
Great location, mediocre wine selection, decent food. Hard to stress how awesome the location is though so that buys them another star
Great for a romantic sit down or get together with friends.
Summary: Not the cheapest wine bar, but a pretty good value. Great selection. Friendly and attentive staff, as long as you dont ask for water. Great cheese ball. Wifi didnt work and cell reception sucks, so hard to get discounts for checking in to FB, Instagram, etc. Parking in big lot next to train station. My wife and I went here with my Mom after doing a BOGO tasting at Hamilton Oaks and being disappointed. We saw that Five Vines was just down the road and made our way over. We found some parking in the large lot for the train station (which full, but we got lucky with a car leaving just as we arrived). We walked to the shop and down the stairs that lead to the tables. Its a small tasting area with a bar, a couple of longish tables, and a lounging couch section. The couches were the only thing available so thats where we sat. As we walked in, I noticed that there were $1 off discounts for checking in through various social media platforms and a wifi password just above it. Since cell reception was limited while being subterranean I was hopeful about staying connected through their wifi, but neither myself, my wife, or my Mom had any luck connecting. Oh well. After being seated, we were handed the tasting menus and told what the daily specials were. We perused through the pages inside and read the descriptions. You can either purchase a 2oz pour, a glass, or a bottle and all of the prices were right next to each wine. There were a number of flights available, but they were the same price as each of the glasses prices totaled up. After reading through, we made some selections and were soon sipping down our first round. The pours were decent sized. At a range of $4-$7 for 2oz, they should be. Glass prices are not super cheap either, but a decent value. We tried a variety of tastes, my Mom got a class, and my wife and I shared a flight. We also tried the homemade cheese ball and really enjoyed it. Highly recommended. As our tasting wound down we asked for waters from one of the servers, but they went behind the bar and forgot us. Then my Mom asked the other server, and he brought out one glass for the three of us. She asked for a refill and finally they got the hint that we all wanted to hydrate after trying a bunch of their wine. Really, it shouldnt have been that hard to deliver after the first request.Despite the difficulty attaining non-alcoholic fluids, we had a good time, spent a good chunk of money, but tried a good variety of wines. Wed likely come back and stick to the specials more since they are the better deals.
A must stop in Capistrano, unique decor, food and wine.
Been here twice and I love it!
