Mediterranean anything always gets my attention and the BBQ Cilantro Chicken Pizza really did. The flavors were really perfect for me - the BBQ sauce was just so good. The kebabs were awesome too! The Shawarma could get a little too full of meat, too messy to handle and too dry inspite of the sauce . They have lots of dine-in space indoors and outdoors. (Must visit along your trip to the PCH and SLO!)
So trendy and you almost feel like youre cool just to be there. Loved the food the staff The location was on a one way street. . I didnt have to much trouble parking .real good but a little pricey was it worth it. Yah!
Ratings are based on what we had and it was to go order. Now let’s get to it. We had the veggie grilled with hummus, the kids with gyros. Both were unremarkable and spiced okay. Veggies were slightly over done, the egg plant tough. It was old. But the other veggies were good, especially the bulb tomatoes. Seasonal veggies great. Now, the kids said the gyros were good, but they’ve had better. Despite our small order, it was okay. Really a 3.5 star. I have no rating for site dining since we had it to go. As always, post what your palate takes you.
Gotta love this place. While on our way to San Francisco we looked for an outdoor patio venue to have an informal dinner. This was perfect. I had the Greek salad she had the spinach beet salad. The large was almost too large! The ingredients were VERY fresh. Yes all CAPS! You place your order at the counter and then grab a table on the patio. Then they deliver your food promptly. Plenty of street parking. Mostly a younger college crowd which made us nostalgic. Ambience? A very SoCal mellow.
Wow! Authentic Gyro and Falafel in SLO. Very convenient with street parking and indoor/outdoor seating. They have AC too! Great service and super friendly. Super hungry? Go for the plates, they are huge. The pita are great for a to/go option. The chicken pizza is one of the best deals in SLO. Go Go Go!!!
No COVID-related enforcement at all. Although this place has signs saying masks are required, many customers were in line without any, on multiple occasions. Also, zero distancing. Aside from this, Petra consistently gets orders wrong, despite the requests being clearly printed on the receipts they attach to the bag.
Pita Bread is addictive good. Staff friendly. Order filled quickly. Basmati rice is not up to the standard of all the other food items. Chicken kabob had generous portions. I will order again when in SLO.
Great restaurant. My wife and I order the Greek Salad there with Feta cheese and your choice of meat. The ambiance is diverse as you have young, middle age and retired people. We have been coming here for years and it never disappoints.
Looks like a nice neighborhood spot. We had takeout. Flavors that we love in middle eastern food but both meat and falafel dry and overcooked. Hummus was good. Yogurt sauce kind of bland. Huge portions.
Great value for the money. Tasty gyros and shwarma. Dont miss the baklava!
Pretty good Mediterranean food overall and about the only Mediterranean food in town. They are generous with their food, too. So, youll definitely come away full.I should probably give this 5 stars, but Im a bit stingy with those. If youre a more generous person, you probably would give this 5 stars, especially for value of its quality food.
I have lived and worked in Middle East, and have been to most of the Mediterranean countries... so don’t compare what you had with Petra, it’s good and decent for what we get here in Town. I would strongly recommend to try the dishes . The staff are friendly and helpful. I didn’t like the cider though, must be my taste preference. Ask for more peta bread as it’s a good comb .
The lamb is amazing, my favorite plate is pita sandwich, my favorite Mediterranean restaurant.
Extremely Delicious GyroBefore I went there I wasn’t sure if I was in the mood to eat meat but after I took my takeout to laguna lake, I knew it was the right choice. I usually get the gyro sandwich but the plate is so much better since you get to choose the amount of meat and toppings you put in your wrap.By far the best gyro I’ve had here in slo. I highly recommend getting the plate and going somewhere nice to enjoy it. There are many great place to sit and eat outside. It really did make a difference in my day.
Great, basic pizza. The garlic cheese bread is yum.Tons of bottles of interesting beverages, plus great beer on tap. And wine too.
We stopped by this place on our road trip and we were happy that we did! The gyro pizza was great with a side of white sauce. They also have halal meat options which is what attracted us in the first place. They offer indoor and outdoor seating and they had clean bathrooms which is always a good sign.
First time eating here and wow, it was fantastic. I had the lamb sandwich with fries and garlic sauce. My absolute favorite thing was the garlic sauce. Definitely scoop extra with your order. Putting it in the sando is next level. The pita was fresh, warm and had a good chew. Inside, it was packed with extremely well spiced lamb and veggies. Itll blow you away.Cheesy bread was an added bonus too.
Todd is our favorite Mediterranean host! Incredible falafels, grilled cauliflower, gyros, babaganoush and the only fresh baked pita along the Central Coast. His pizzas are delicious beyond description.
Petra has been a local favorite for many years while living in SLO. I still stop by whenever I got a chance during visits.
Healthy, fresh, delicious, and great beer! We had the kabobs and every bite was fantastic. I loved the pita bread and different sauces and the meat was flavorful and tender. My son had the shawarma and was contemplating ordering a second! Can’t wait to come back.
Salads were great. Hummus and grilled meats very good. Pizza was decent, but probably better places for pizza if that is what you are after. And has draft craft beer!
I placed a delivery order from Doordash today. I ordered a small chicken and garlic pizza and a chicken shawarma pita for for dinner later. Ive been here before so I already know its good, however: this is my first time trying their pizza. Wow. They did not skimp on toppings and flavor! I could taste the Mediterranean spices in the chicken! And on a pizza? Leveled up the pizza game. So so good. This may be my new go-to cheat day lunch.
I really enjoyed my meal here! Looks may be deceiving - it isnt much from the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised by how modern and furnished the inside was. Surprisingly spacious, and with a lot of good food options here. I really enjoyed their Chicken Shawarma, and it comes with different sauces and toppings that you can put on. The fries, surprisingly, were also really good and a recommended side. They also have a very, very large selection of local and other beers in their refrigerated section along the back wall. Definitely somewhere to come visit for a quick lunch!
Love it! Delicious food and great staff! the gyro pizza is a must try, but you cant go wrong with anything on the menu
Tucked away on upper Higuera, Petra is just what you need after a busy afternoon. Delicious Pita, Lamb, Gyros, Chicken and Falafels will just about please anyone. My sister loved the Greek pizza with the gluten free crust. A huge selection of bottled beverages as the location once was a liquor store. Cider and beer on tap with all day happy hour Sunday. They usually have sports playing which I could do without, but the Employees, Owners and Chefs are always friendly, jovial and professional. A perfect place for a quick solo lunch, meeting with a friend or a pub-style stop when you have visitors in town.Super affordable. With pleasant outdoor seating where you can linger and enjoy your food and drink. Yummy Food and Great Vibes!
VEGANS REJOICE!!!! AWESOME options are at this amazing place! Kind people, good attitude and great food!
Food is awesome, people are courteous, and service was great. And food was awesome!
My favorite pizza in SLO. Love their sweet jalapeños on my pie. Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Love the beer choices. Overall, and A+ experience.
It is pretty good. Flavorful, the humus and pita was tasty. Not the most tender beef and chicken kabobs i have eaten, but still decent.
Great selection of Mediterranean food - tasty! Not much atmosphere.
This is hands down my favorite place to eat in SLO. Every time we visit we go at least 3 times during the weekend we love it so much! The gluten free pizza is delicious, and the gyro, hummus, rice, salsas, pita (back when I used to be able to eat it) are all the absolute best Mediterranean Ive ever had. Ive never found a place that comes half as close to as good as Petra and tell everyone I know going to SLO to stop here. Years ago I met the owner who was the nicest man youll ever meet. I used to order delivery when I was a student when I had a particularly bad day and it always cheered me up! Thank you Petra for spoiling me for many years!!
I love this place. I think I would have given in five if they had Parmesan cheese but they were out. But they have really amazing food. I love the chicken garlic pizza. Its really good in my opinion if you have pesto sauce put on it instead of the garlic sauce and then trade the mushrooms for garlic. Also, it helps to ask them to make your pizza crust more cooked because sometimes it could be a little soggy.
Falafel and Lamb pitas are exceptional. Love the tabouleh and baba ganouj as well. A satisfying and flavorful meal!
Super tasty food and polite staff. A tiny bit pricey but well worth it!
Great selection from pizza to gyro sandwichs. There isnt anything on the menu I didnt enjoy.
+ Sucky parking situation. There are limited spots but you can find metered street parking all around.+ It’s very unassuming from the outside, but the interior is very specious, open, and laid back+ it’s a pretty popular place but finding a table is never too hard. Just place your order and pay, find a table, scope out the condiment bar, and wait for them to bring you your food. Pretty standard casual dining experience.+ The food is fairly priced and the portions are good. I tried the tri-tip swarma and the combo kabobs. Both were good. The kabobs were a little on the dry and tough side. They make really good pitas here! I’m a huge fan of their hot sauces and pickled turnip.+ Tons of different beverages to pick from. It’s like a liquor store on one side with so many options.
UPDATEDPetra was another spot recommended by a friend, and its probably the best Greek food in San Luis Obispo. The plates are basically deconstructed versions of the sandwich with a side of hummus so they are reliably tasty just like the sandwiches. All of the menu (save for desserts, obviously) is made to order, so every dish is fresh.Overall, Petra is a little pricey (if not, average for San Luis Obispo), but the quality, authentic taste, and friendly service unquestionably make up for it. The only concern is that the restaurant is somewhat small considering the crowd that dines there, and tables are sometimes hard to come by. Definitely a great place and I am now a loyal customer!
Very nice atmosphere and awesome food to boot. I have order the Gyro Sandwich and Beef Shwarma Snadwich and they are beyond phenomenal. Affordable and very high quality, an easy return for me. Highly recommend for those who enjoy Mediterranean Food and for those who have yet to try!
Had roasted cauliflower, spinach beet salad and falafel plate. Pita with hummus was amazing. Pita was so soft. On the other had, the knots were not very good, we only ate 3 of the 6. Cauliflower could have been better, many places make it better and it seemed to just be missing something. Lots of flavors in the spinach beet salad, very tasty.
The Falafel Pizza is well worth the try here!
Good Mediterranean inspired food, local beers on tap and lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Even with a decently long line on farmers market night, it went fast and food came out quickly.
Needed a quick fix for dinner and found this spot while driving. You can tell with how many people were coming in and out the the food was good. And sure enough we will be going back again. The service was top notch and great food. See you soon.
Been coming here for years. Always good.✌🏻
The Sorting Hat determined the young lad working the register would likely do better as a Hufflepuff instead of Gryffindor. Although disappointed at this decision, the boy was able to carry out his duties well. Feta Greek Pizza was an absolute banger for us Gryffindors.
Delicious Mediterranean food and pizza. Pretty busy during weekend nights, but the wait is never too long and well worth it.
Enjoyed our meal here. Very good food.
Always great staff. Always good food. Always stop by when Im in the area. Try the tri-tip 🍕 🔥
The food quality and flavor here is pretty great! Also a variety of drinks to choose from!
First time visitor during CP SLO graduation weekend. Food was great! Ill definitely be back
Love this place. Clean and fast
Delicious and authentic Mediterranean food. Everything we ate was fresh, homemade and the breads were fresh baked. We ate outside on a beautiful evening. Our dog was welcome and even served water and a biscuit.
Mediterranean and pizza place. Pretty decent falafal pita pocket thing, with a bunch of sides and spices to tailor food to your flavour. Pizza was also pretty decent, and had a unqiue bready type dough that was unusual (but not bad) for pizza. The grilled/broiled cauliflower wasnt to my taste, had a weird bitter flavour, but other people seemed to like it so just individual I guess. Overall, not a bad place for a quick lunch/dinner in SLO, would definitely come back.
In the top 3 lunch places in SLO
I liked the food at Petras...fresh, fast, delicious- whats not to love? The pita bread is great. I havent had a pizza yet, but will next time.
Super busy place. Food came out very fast and was really good! We will be back.
Lovely spot. Great staff.
Often, my food is cold or not made fresh to order. This has happened a few times and its very disappointing. Especially considering the price of this place, I have never felt like I got what I paid for.. This place disappoints me when Im hungry.
Fantastic food. Ate way too much😊
The food is consistently delicious and the portions are amazing. My boyfriend and I can eat one plate and have leftovers.
IMO above average maybe but not the BEST Ive had as certificates suggest. Falafel sandwich needed more falafel and tzatziki and less bread/lettuce. My dining partner gave an 8 to his tri-tip shwarma sandwich. Greek salad was okay. Pita bread not the greatest (I make my own) but fresh.
Always a treat to get to visit Petra! Love the Shawarma and Dolmas!!!! SUCH a great variety of beer, kombucha, and sodas! Cant wait to go back and maybe try something new!
We made a quick stop at this restaurant in San Louis Obispo on our way to Santa Barbara. Okay place, okay food nothing really impressive about the food or the place really. While their chicken skewers plate was nice, their pizza was a big disappointment. So yeah, pretty much ranks as OKAY on my list of visited restaurants.
Expensive for my taste, but very tasty. Loved the feta pizza.
Love this place. Baklava and pizza are amazing.
Quick style authentic fresh tasting Greek food. Beer and wine, plus plenty of outdoor seating available.
Best Mediterranean food ever. The portions are good and the food is so tasty. Not overpriced. Service was quick. We loved it alot. Best place to eat highly recommended
Tried chicken kebab, tri-tip, felafel, pizza and soup. Awesome.Beef kebabs are a bit chewy and raw in center.
The best Mediterranean restaurants I have been too. The food spot on. You wont be disappointed at all. The best.
Happy hour 3 to 6 everyday and all day Sunday. Garlic knots are delicious.
Always hits the spot! Quick, delicious, and well priced for the high quality of food plus a solid happy hour! My go to orders are either the tri-tip pizza and an IPA or the gyro sandwich and a glass of Flying Cloud Sauv Blanc. You can walk up and order, order online, or over the phone. They have a tented outside seating area set up.
The pizza was really good, but having 2 different kitchens made where my whole order came out at different times and was kind of confusing for us.
Received our food burnt dry lacking of flavor, called over to Petra and they said since doordash delivered take it up with doordash my feeling is doordash picked up this burnt dry food from Petra they should have better customer service.
Great food and nice covered outside dining.
One of my favorite spots in slo - great pizza, even better gyro plates & souvlaki. Their wall of refrigerators always adds some fun to the drink selection experience.
Trash! Absolute worst Mediterranean food i have ever tasted in my life!! Over cooked dried kabobs no flavor or authenticity at all. Dont waist your time or money on this place....
Out door dining i loved. Food was great and quick service
A great atmosphere, the baklava has great flavor, and the pizza is delicious! The house sauces/dips are a wonderful touch.
Always the most delicious 🤤Cheap and great winesLots of seatingDoing things right
The kabobs are seasoned just right and delicious.
Delicious food. Two times in 2 days!
Absolutely amazing! The chicken shawarma pita was huge, as big as my grandsons head! Loved the fried cauliflower and lamb shawarma plate. Standard flavorful gyro meat, but ohhh myyyy the tzatiki sauce alone is worth the trip to Petra. It is the absolute best ever, and I eat a lot of Mediterranean meals. Hummus was super fresh and yummy, baklava is a perfect ending to a great meal.
Delicious, unique take on Mediterranean food. Wide variety of beverages and plenty of outdoor dining
I just love Petra! I had not had much Mediterranean food when I had my first meal at Petra 7 years ago. Since then, I have become a big fan. I usually order a sandwich (gyro, chicken, or falafel). But I must say, in addition to making great Mediterranean food, they make one of the best pizzas in SLO. Try a pepperoni and sun-dried tomato pizza--you wont regret it!
