We enjoyed the service and food. We were looking forward to enjoying a Spanish paella. We ordered the Valencia Paella (seafood) and several appetizers, including bacon-wrapped dates, ricotta & berries, and spicy grilled shrimp. All dishes were well-prepared and promptly served. The outdoor atmosphere was lovely and it allowed for the enjoyment of temperate climate. Thank you for the experience.
Nice ambience, great service, good wine selection. The tortilla soup was absolutely delicious. Our party shared the mixto paella, and it was one if the best I ever had. Will definitely return the next time I am in town.
I was really looking forward to trying Luna Red, but we were a little disappointed… the restaurant has a beautiful patio which was great and the waitstaff was attentive. However, the three varieties of craft tacos we had for dinner were really lacking in flavor and the rock fish tasted fishy. I didn’t finish my meal and I’m really not a picky eater- I think it may have just been an off night because I do hear good reviews of this place. We were sad to leave disappointed after spending a lot of money for our date night and just not enjoying the experience.
Great variety. Got the tacos which can mix and all were great! Good side sauces and spices.
Hot up Lunas for some brunch on a Sunday. The location next to the mission is spectacular if you sit outside. Also there with a guitar singing some pretty cool laid-back songs on Sunday. Took my daughter and she loved her food. I love my food as well they had a huge drink selection. I got the breakfast nachos with dont sound very good if youre thinking about traditional nachos . But these breakfast nachos were spectacular. I think theyre called taquillas but dont quote me on that. the only reason I gave him four stars is because Ive been there twice and on one of the days it took them a long time to give us our food with no explanation. beyond that the food is really tasty its kind of a fancy place. The food is excellent and its a nice location downtown next to the mission
Luna Red is a lovely place to eat. It had an amazing atmosphere and the wait staff are so sweet. The sea good paella is to die for and the bacon wrapped dates are delicious. I highly recommend this place for early dinner or whenever.
Nice place for casual lunch and dinner. Dog friendly. Great seafood dishes.
Very good restaurant here in SLO! It seems to be really popular, and with good reason! Make sure you make a reservation if youre going during their peak hours. We arrived right when they opened, and by the time we were done, the place was pretty full. Very nice breakfast with a super interesting menu- each dish feels pretty unique, and Im definitely going to try to come back here. Great job!
Sitting outside in Jan, comfortable outdoor sitting. They do have heaters and umbrellas if needed. The waiter was very nice. My dietary restrictions are gluten/dairy free and not spicy, they have met this need several times with no complaints! The real question is does my food taste good, yes it does...very good! My other half has no restrictions and he likes the food too!! Bonus: multiple mimosas options too 😀
We had the vegetarian paella and strawberry caprese. All good, nothing spectacular!
Try the tortilla soup. They can sub vegan cheese on it so you dont miss the whole experience. Salad was excellent too. Looking forward to going back to try the vegan paella.
Amazing and wish we had visited sooner. So nice to sit outside and enjoy the eveining. Food was fantastic and servive was spot on. We had the seafood paella and it was one of the best we have every had. Scallops, shrimp and clams cooked to perfection. Rice was flavorful with the right amount of crispness.
Gorgeous patio. Inventive cocktails. Warm service. Perfect!
Food was good but very pricey and service was okay. Came with some friends who are Vegan and they really like their food.
We order sea food paella, and was the worst paella we had ever eaten, the rice was burnt and crispy on the bottom and at the most half inch deep it was soaked in oil or butter, rice paella supposed to be fluffy and not oily!!! Taste was ok but nothing spectacular, it says it will feed 2-4 people, it won’t!! It will be nearly enough for two adults! Service was terrible, bunch of moody college girls with zero customer service attitude! Don’t waste your money!
This is one of my most favorite places to come and have drinks and tapas. Tuesday is the best day because it is TACO Tuesday! Came in with a friend who has never visited. Samuel was our waiter/ bartender. We so enjoyed Samuel with his great service and his love, like ours, of Game of Thrones!!! We ordered the Sangria and their bacon wrapped, chorizo stuffed dates! The dates are the smallest amount of greasy, due to the chorizo. The bacon is nice and crispy. The date is perfectly sweet. This appetizer is always on point. I wish I could eat all 5! Then we ordered TACOS, of course! The brisket, shrimp, and pollo verde. All of them were delicious! Always a great time here! Will return!
There is a limited menu but the food is good. Its a nice place to get a glass of wine and appetizers
I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the food was amazing, and the service was amazing.
So, we ended up here by accident. Searched for Pho in Google Maps, and this was the first hit, so I didn’t even look at the info we just went. Put our name in for a table and I had to go back to the car. When I came back everyone was seated and looking glum, because it wasn’t Pho it was Tapas and the boys are a PITA about food when they get what they want stuck in their head, but fortunately our perfectly awesome wait staff showed up before they could talk me into bailing. So good, the boys even forgot they were supposed to get Pho.Delicious Paella, we had the Del Mar with the Squid Ink Rice, which was delicious. Super generous portions of incredibly fresh seafood, and the rice had that great paella crust at the bottom. Shared between all five of us, with a few small plates, too. Perfecto.Takes on tapas plates were delicious, too. papas bravas, fresh rolls, and tortilla soup were delicious. gambas al ajillo were a particularly amazing version.Homemade, handmade cream soda was otherworldly. All so good, even the pickiest eater posted his plate to Insta.
The first and only time i have been here...damn, amazing. We went in for taco Tuesday and I will forever hold this place in my heart. We got the big platter and devoured it happily. This place knows how to put some great tasting tacos together. The restaurant looks great outside and in. The people were very friendly and with plenty of smiles and recommendations to go around. The taco Tuesday prices were insanely low. When in the area next time around, I know exactly where to eat. Luna Red...amazing job.
Way too overpriced, the waiter was very nice. 10 tacos for $35, not too mention mini tacos. The kids meal was a joke, the quesadillas were TINY. I ordered a soup and it was put into a large bowl and it was only filled up to about a centimeter, and I finished it in like 5 minutes. The menu was misleading and didn’t have many options. We had to get a second dinner.
Service was on point, fried potatoes, bread, shrimp and tacos gave us a smile as we left. If you are traveling through town and need a great place to eat.
Wonderful food, great service and beautiful setting
Excellent pour, service and food. Renee was amazing, on it every time
Great food. Tacos were flavorful. Excellent service. Madison was perky and helpful.
Not too fond of the system of ordering food all up front. We ordered drinks, appetizers & paella. The drinks & apps came out at the same time and the paella was about five minutes after that. We just felt very rushed throughout the whole dinner. Especially bc we are all outdoors and the food gets cold a lot faster. Plus the paella could have used another 20 minutes to really get that crisp on the bottom. The drinks were Delicious! we had salad and bread as an app which were both exceptional. & overall im impressed they even have paella, it just could have used a bit longer.
Paia was good. Service was not the best but still good.
This place is always good. Their new tuna ceviche is amazing.
Shrimp Ceviche was delicious! Excellent staff!
I have an unusual food allergy, but they worked with me to figure out a safe dinner I could eat. Not my first time going there, and it wont be the last either!
I ordered takeout and the food was really good! Ceviche was fresh, tacos were good, and drinks were delicious. They guy who made the drinks was really sweet. Hope I can try for brunch when things are open again!
They have a new ordering setup. Order in front and they fish tacos are really delicious. Theyll also do a side of veggies if you ask and the sauteed is amazing!
Delicious Spanish fare, prompt and polite service, convenient downtown location, and very relaxing garden decor! Would go back when we visit again!!
Wonderful dinning location and great selection of food and drinks. The best paella Ive had to date.
Our service was great but the food was lackluster. The paella was not quite authentic. It contained cod and was decorated with yellow mustard. The “mese platter” we had as an appetizer was mostly burnt pita.
Great del mar paella, kale caesar salad, cava wine, and fun atmosphere!
We are world travelers and enjoy visit unique places, we were in town to visit the mission directly across Luna Red. We waited for a table and took the waiter’s recommendation for ceviche and black ink squid paella... we were astonished at how great both dishes were. The ceviche was superb with its ingredients and the sauce... magnificent! For the paella... it was better than we’ve had in Spain itself!!! This is a gem which we will continue to visit, thank you for the great service and truly exceptional food!!!
Nice place but not my choice of foods
Service is great, food is fantastic, drinks are spectacular!
The outdoor seating and the cocktails were great. The appetizer were delicious, but I was not impressed with the seafood paella. The seafood was over cooked and there was not enough rice. There was only a very thin layer that was extra crispy which I love, but I was eating just a layer of crispy rice with overcooked seafood.
The paella was wonderful!
The dates and the Brussels sprouts were amazing
Excellent Nicoise salad, one of the best Ive ever had.
Food and drinks were good. Ceviche and fish tacos on there appetizers are great. Had the smoke and lava margarita was delicious. There outside sitting was good and service was fantastic. I recommend this restaurant.
Great food and staff.
I had the Luna Benedict and the French toast pudding. This was delightful! Not to those from Hispanic decent. If you see anything that says chorizo, and youre looking for the authentic stuff. Dont be fooled. This Chorizo isnt quite the authentic type. But the meat they used was very good with the dish. The French Toast pudding had a wonderful sweetness that went with with the dish and was covered with berries that everybody would love!
Nice outdoor experience. I bet this place is great pre- and post covid. My meal was ok; Vegan Paella. You have to buy your food before they will seat you. There was a queue outside of the restaurant so you’re in line then, boom! Menu; pick what you want, pay us, tip us, then we will seat you. Eat. Thank you.
Great food, fast service, clean
My wife and I just stumbled into this place. Frustrated by the other options for dining yesterday. Great place awesome food and drink killer staff and a nice selection in their grocery area. Give them a look - great place that deserves a visit. And considering they opened this May they can’t fail !
During COVID-19, no place is as great as in normal times. Luna Red is usually a delightful, delicious upbeat place. Today, pretty quiet, yet still enjoyable with polite, helpful staff wearing masks and sanitizing surfaces. Thanks for being open!
This place is very cozy. The food is good. Service is real good. Came here for taco Tuesday. Had the shrimp taco and octopus taco. Both amazing. Very nice outdoor seating area. Definitely will be back for taco Tuesdays. Prices are reasonable. Atmosphere is very nice.
If youre going there for the experience, its a great location. The food is decent, and I love the options. For example, charred octopus street tacos arent something youll see on every menu. I honestly thought the portions were a little cut corner. But the atmosphere was good and the staff very friendly.
Luna Red has a Sweet spot, on location, for dinning. Its location, right off the crossing & end of Monterey ST.It sits above the famous Mission CrkThe creek itself, has activity from wildlife, that can be entertaining/&/or relaxing while you dine on local dishes, of seafood & other delights.
Amazing food and plenty of outdoor seating. We had civiche, chicken tortilla soup, lentil hummus and strawberry salad. Everything was great. Presentation of each plate was beautiful.
First time here and my wife and I enjoyed it! We sat outside at the patio next to the creek and the mission. The servers were so attentive and friendly. We stuck to the happy hour menu and we were not disappointed! The happy hour clams were plentiful and their red sangria is awesome. I am looking forward to returning
Great hang and excellent food!
We had the Paella Del Mar (i.e., seafood paella), choosing the saffron rice. It was top-notch, along with the Caprese salad. Yes, we mixed Spanish and Italian, haha. Absolutely delicious food, and fantastic outdoor dining ambiance to boot.
Yummy paella and great cocktails. Friendly service too.
Great tacos and cocktails, even during a pandemic.
Decent place for tapas! They run out of the seafood paella, so if you want to order it, come earlier before they run out. Most of the dishes were good. Service is good!
It was ok. Taco needed more seasoning. Too blend. Paella - ingredients were good but overall dish execution was disappointing.
Food and service have declined somewhat over the past 3 years. My wife and I find a decline in menu options and slightly decreased service. Location and outdoor venue remain awesome. Food selections are fewer than previous years. Quality is fair and service is average. Prices are high for what you get. Drinks are awesome. Ever since they dropped Sunday night burgers the overall experience has dropped (on all days). Still a nice place but no longer our go to place. Overall an average experience which is unfortunate given the location. Any further decline will see Luna Red go the direction of Sebastian’s and few other short lived businesses. Message to owners: up your game back to where you were in 2015 or be left behind.
Lovely patio, great service. The avocado toast is excellent. Recommend for a casual lunch with vegan friends, or those with food allergies - they were duper accommodating.
First time here with the family. Had an amazing time. Service food and drinks were so amazing and delicious, great place to chill with the family. I will definitely come back again.
