Good selection of yarn. Helpful staff. What surprises me about this store is that the interior is so shabby. There seems to be little effort to make it inviting. Windows are blocked by shelves and displays are minimal. It is more like a factory warehouse than a yarn shop.

The BEST store ever for dyes and various accoutrements for artists and crafters. But best of all is their vast and reasonably priced fabric products to use for printing on and/or dyeing, including dresses, bags, t shirts, pants etc. Including organic cottons, silks etc. Also the very helpful and kind personnel are also so great.

Terrible service. I walked around the store for 20 minutes today looking at yarn and the manic, curly grey haired lady at the counter never even took 2 seconds to greet me or acknowledge my existence. I can only imagine it was somehow personal, because 9 years ago is the last time I went into this place and she was just as manic and unpleasant to me then, though helpful to other customers. When I would ask her questions she would either stare at me blankly or, alternatively, speak at lightening speed, which I couldn’t keep up with, and then scuttle off to assist other people. No clue how she’s still working there.

I am addicted to Dharma. They have a great selection of silks at very reasonable prices.I love to crochet and they have beautiful selection of yarn. I am now ice dyeing. Very fun. They have classes and the staff are very good at answering questions and techniques. I am attaching one of my scarves I iced dyed.

Hands down the best place to purchase any of the needed dyes for tie dying. The quality of the dyes is awesome! They don’t fade near as fast as the store bought dyes. AND They have a HUGE variety of choices!!! You will not be disappointed!

This store has been the Supplier of many Dye Products and Chemicals to Tie Dye Artists as well as Silk, Dyers, they have do many products for Textile Artists, we all for many generations have used Procion MX dyes, even my older brother, and all his friends, bought their dying products from them in the 1960s! This is a very interesting store, the mortar and brick version of the Dharma Trading post catalog/web site.It has lots of clothes and fabric, mostly white. Its up to the imagination and the paints and dyes sold there to fill them with colors.Their fabrics by the yard were also very good. A painter/dyer dream store!They also have a large section of knitting and crocheting supplies, something not mentioned in their web site. I loved it, I wanted to visit it since I moved to California! Its right off the highway, easy to find and with a parking lot on the side. Perfect set up!

I love Dharma! I was a mail order customer for over 20 years. Was thrilled to find their retail store in San Rafael. They are very friendly and helpful, and have a great selection of tie dye supplies and white shirts and clothing to dye. Lots of other fabric paints and yarn and other crafty stuff, but I do tie dye. 😉

Excellent customer service from Parris with my online order for Tie Dye goodies. Because of Parris I recieved all my Tie Dye supplies right before the huge camping trip I was buying everything for. I was blown away by her attention to detail and her knowing what I needed/wanted without really having to ask or complain. Im in the middle of making my 2nd purchase for additional dye colors. Dharma will be my forever go to for Tie Dye supplies.

Dharma trading is an exceptional place to shop for all types of craft supplies.I have been shopping here for around 20 years and they have been in business even longer than that.This says a lot about this business for one.When I was just first learning how to knit, I began coming to their free knitting classes which happen through volunteers at least twice a week.These ladies are so kind and helpful in showing us newbies how to knit.Karen is just like her name, patient and caring. She has been there for a long time and still has a smile on her face when I see her.They have many options for exquisite and novel fabrics such bamboo, hemp and silks.What is unique also about Dharma is that they have a whole line of undyed clothing to work with for dyeing & working with for crafts.I have always had a wonderful time when I visit them & they are always helpful & courteous to me and my family members.The assortments of dyes, craft paints, yarns, and fabrics at good prices make it my go to.I really hope these gaias will stay in business long into the future so my children can be customers one day.Three thumbs up!!👍👍👍

Massively Disappointing!!! An order was held from shipping though everything cleared online when being placed, including that the items were being sent under my fathers name to my fathers address which is different from the purchasers name and billing address- for an event- which we are now going to have to scramble to redesign- because Dharma Trading 1) does not have the sense or professionalism to design a check-out that would flag this as an issue upon purchase, 2) Dharma Trading does not have the sense or professionalism to leave a detailed message immediately stating what the issue is, 3) Dharma Trading does not have the professionalism to have VOICE MAIL!, and 4) Dharma Trading does not have the integrity or honesty to make up the time difference to get the items here when needed. I guess this is where ones Dharma turns into ones Karma. I have heard all of your excuses. The way you handled this order was worse than mediocre - and you caused harm.

Being a huge knitter, Ive been shopping at Dharma for years. Lots of beautiful yarns, wool, alpaca, cotton, mohair, acrylic, silk, etc.. knitting books, magazines and notions. They are also a dye shop, with all types of dyes and white clothing to dye, dresses, t shirts, pants. They are always willing to help! If you have a project and are stuck or need help, you can always stop by for advice! Wonderful place!

Great dyes and yarn, awesome service

This is my favorite yarn store in the universe. All others fall short in comparison. Great selection, extremely reasonably priced, well labeled, welcoming and helpful staff, not fussy at all. And thats not even getting started on all the dyeing supplies! I love it!

You *cannot* beat their fabric prices. Silky 100% cotton voile for ~$6.30 a yard? Youll never even come close to that at Joannes. Extremely nice people, too.

Dharma Trading Co is my absolute favorite fiber arts enabler! If its about fiber, and any way to manipulate it in colors or construction or...? Dharmas the place to go. Staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and prices reasonable. Bonus: what they dont have at the store will be in their warehouse-- just 20 minutes away.

Merchandise can be pretty pricey - depending on the item & how much of said item you buy - but its worth it b/c theyre of high quality & come in many attractive colors. I also found the staff members there to be very helpful & polite.

My sister went to Dharma and asked for help; she wanted to learn how to knit. The clerk who waited on her left my sister feeling like an idiot because of her inexperience. No help with an easy pattern...or any pattern. No encouragement or suggestions. She didnt even wind the skein of yarn for her! As a member of a knitting guild in Michigan, I was appalled because I have always found people in the knitting community to be friendly and helpful. Besides, why would my sister return to Dharma for her next project? Why would I go when I visit California?Kathy Stasys

This store has a great collection of dyes, yarns etc. I have been there probably 3 times and have spent a lot of money but sometimes when I am shopping they are watching me. it could be that I am wearing baggy dance pants, I tend to go there after I teach my class.

I ordered several hundred dollars worth of supplies. Some of it kinda heavy so shipping was expensive.... The order wasnt scheduled to be delivered until 10 whole days later!I was out of town for business, as I never expected it to take THAT long. Instead of having UPS hold it for me to pick up as soon as I got back, they had UPS ship it back to Dharma after three attempts. As in the first one was Wednesday, then on Friday the order was irreversibly on a truck back to them in Cali. They then refused to help me turn it around, even on Friday afternoon, and charged me for the return shipping, and told me I could pay in full to reorder everything!!!They say on their orders that they want to “make it right” but did everything BUT that.No thanks.
