Incredible pastries. I was traveling through, never been there before and was so delighted to find such decadence for breakfast.Its a small unique high end grocery. Expect the best

Dont buy the Fusion sushi. I stopped in here today hoping to find some decent supermarket sushi. I was unsuccessful in this mission. I purchased the tuna and avocado roll and everything was mealy and had an unpleasant texture and mouth feel, which adversely affected the taste. Its grocery store sushi, mind you, but Safeway is decent and so is whole foods if I remember correctly but I tried United because I have a fairly strong no Amazon policy. That being said, this sushi was hell. Gross and tasteless at the same time. Even the wasabi was mealy and weird but I was grateful for the intense burn while trying to choke down the worst $7 I ever spent so that it didnt go to waste.The bathroom at the store was clean and I was welcomed at the door. Staff seemed super nice and very competent and the meat and cheese departments looked fabulous. Just dont buy the sushi 🍣.

These guys made the best and biggest sandwich I have had in awhile. Turkey and avacodo with bacon... a specialty sandwich that was also huge, like 2x and was only $8!!! They also have really cool healthy variety of beverages to choose from. The staff is totally happy to serve you and super friendly. Really surprised. Going again.

There a total of 2 United Grocery stores in Marin county, San Rafael and San Anselmo. Very nice people and very helpful. Fresh fruit and vegetables.

Nice and friendly local grocery store that had a big barrel of large crisp apples to take for free by school children on the way out. It doesnt have an ATM however which was quite disappointing. However its a good store with lots of fresh produce and bakery.

United consistently has the most expensive food and other products in all of Marin, which is saying quite a bit. I dont know why I even go there. Theres gourmet food in there, and I like their Deli choices, but again their prices are unbelievably High. Even though I have good food in my bags, I have no money left in my wallet!

New store hours during SIP:7:30 to 7:30. Except Tuesday they close at 7 pm to do a storewide deep cleaning after closing.Great grocery store with really good collection of fresh produce, meat/fish and good bakery too. I also like their pre-made/heat&serve section in the back near deli counter. And we also a regular buyer of prepackaged Panko crusted & Parmesan crusted Rosie’s Chicken filets. So easy and quick to prepare at home.Always find the store very tidy and well displayed.I see many long time employees whom I recognize over 10 years.Many organic produce goes on sale now and then, sometimes same or a couple cents more such as swiss chard and a bunch of kale.I think they are on sale often due to short shelf life or they get a good deal from farmers.The breads from local companies such as Semifreddis are sold here $1-$1.50 lower than Whole Foods.I’ve seen a couple of local restaurant chefs to pick up a few produce there too. I’ve met a couple folks from San Francisco to come here every other week to do their grocery shopping as well. I think that says a lot!If you have to buy some high quality meat and a great selection of fresh vegetables & fruits, United Market is the best bet in San Rafael.And their fresh cream/less butter frosted cakes are light and not too sweet. You’d be very happy to order a cake here or pick one up last minute if you need to celebrate someone’s birthday.

The store is a bit pricey but I like the layout and it kind of reminded me of Safeway grocery until I looked at meat and poultry prices. $$$I just moved to San Rafael from San Francisco and I guess Ive gotten used to shopping around for better pricing. If Anyone is familiar with San Rafaels food stores or farmers market Id be happy to get other places to shop around. No grocery outlet here..... 😔 But I love the vibe

I was accused of shoplifting at United/3rd Street after paying and checking out but then had to come right back in the store to purchase an item that I forgot. I have been a neighbor and loyal customer for 30 years. I showed my receipt for everything in my bag, but never received an apology, even after calling&meeting the company president who assured me that she would review the tape of the incident and call me -- over 10 days ago. Yes, it is difficult to recognize long term customers with their masks on, but a mistake was made and an apology was in order. United is definitely off my shopping list.Feb 2021: MONTHS later and STILL waiting for that apology...

Really nice market! Clean & organized. Ample parking, some shady spots. Great deli. Dairy case is spectacular, very big & well lit. Plenty of checkers open. Friendly staff. Clean restrooms.Only challenge is entry from one way street if not from the area.

United offers a very good selection of products not found in other grocery stores in Marin, specifically the European imports. I do have to say though that the service speed at deli/meat counters is significantly slower as compared with other grocery stores in the county. This is something I have found to be true regardless of time of day or day of the week.

The produce is great and inexpensive.They also have a pretty wide variety of organic products on the shelves.And this year they expanded quite a bit in the plant based meat products but this is still just a toe dip at this point.The staff is somewhat lacking consideration and kindness at check out, but at least they arent mean.The clerks in produce are very helpful.I am glad this store exists.

United San Rafael has been my grocery for 50 years. Best part of shopping at United is the people. Consistently friendly and knowledgeable about their stock. Meat and fish depts are great. Sandwiches at the deli are always perfect and delicious. Even thru the fungalitus BS, they remain generally upbeat and willing to make the extra effort. Love my United.

Great fresh produce, meats, and fish. I particularly like the marrow bones I buy for my dog because they are cut very small. Most other markets in Marin cut their bones long and huge which may be good for soups, but not my pooch.

It was uneventful. No Frills no spills no big deal. I dont know how to add and a review to this Google thing but somebody just asked a question and I didnt know the answer but I just found out the answer. I just called United Market and got a very very nice head clerk on the phone and ask him what day the senior discount was, so it is the first Thursday of every month, it is a 10% discount and it is for seniors 60 years and older. So trying to answer that question and I think I just did and I want to thank you to that head clerk I didnt get his name but he was very polite and very knowledgeable. Thank you so much United Market

Great store

United is a local GEM. It has superb prices on high quality (and often local) produce and excellent meat. It has a full selection of national and store branded shelf items. I love supporting a local business that give back to the community AND helps me with my own budget too.

Used to be my favorite store up until several months ago when I noticed some changes being made. Things were being moved around and most of my favorite items were no longer available. Diantha’s coffee, my very favorite, is gone. New York style sausage gone. Many other items I was unable to find...I will not shop there anymore.

Due to virus issue, today it seems not that many people..shopping were there around d the morning..you still can get eggs, meats, cheeses. Vegies, deli items, no toilet paper but supplies come in as needed..I went yo 3 stores, sports had toilet paper 7.49 each much higher than normal. Limit 2..hardly that many people shopping. Same with whole foods and safeway been to 4 stores was hardly anyone there..good thing..avoid the crowds and stuff..I got what I needed took 2 hrs to shop all 4 stores

Service was terrible . I ordered wrong on mobile app than I a went to store earlier told one of employees is tall skinny back guy who’s made order about fixed my order later . I saw a young man with white t-shirt made my order I was making sure is it mine could you please add almond milk He wasn’t care what I said his hand carries milk he was add milk to my order, I said it’s not almond milk than He answered yours was not had milk, He mad as order . I said fine I cannot drink milk I will order a new one HE STILL answered me it will take 10 minutes I ever never see how’s service people rude like this made mistakes to customer and not even care . I spend $45 plus almost $5 more for my new order than I had terrible service and my order test not same as I used to

The San Rafael store, is a great local grocery store. My husband and I love going there and getting our groceries. The prices are very good too. The store is always very clean and the people that work there are super friendly. I highly recommend it.

I go to Safeway which is much closer to my home, only for a forgotten couple of items, and I still regret I did not take the 5 minutes extra time to get to United. It is absolutely the best grocery shop around. The produce is amazing in freshness variety and price. Customer service is excellent. I never waited in line more than a minute or two. You are likely to save time and money and get out in a better mood when you visit this store.

We have been living in San Rafael for almost 30 years, and United is our go-to supermarket, even living off Lucas Valley Road. Produce is great! Their home made salsa ranchera is my favorite. And the people there are very friendly.

Salads were the best. Staffs were nice and kind. The place was well maintained and organized. Prices were fair on my opinion.

As someone nye to the area, I was looking for a clean, affordable grocery store with good selection: this place is it. I will be returning. I got the veggie pizza made in house that you take home and cook, and I kid you not, that is the best veggie pizza Ive ever had. The crust was perfect!

This used to be the most hip place to go. I loved going and getting sandwiches there and getting that Andes mint. Seems like business has slowed down a little for them at this location which is a shame as it is a really great grocery store. Friendly staff, fresh food, clean facilities, you name it.

Ive been meaning to write a review, so this place is amazing, back when we had the fires and the power shut off this was one of the few grocerys stores even open, when nothing else was, and now during this insane virus, they are pretty well stocked, they still had some TP and paper towels, was limit one per customer, which is nice because I wasnt trying to buy in bulk or anything, thank you to all the workers who risk exposure!! this place is great, thank you for what you do for your community

United is a comfortable market. It doesnt have the trendy flair of Whole Foods (or the prices) but it does have friendly employees. Its well organized and clean. Shopping there is easy going, with a sweet, homey feeling.

Let me tell you a tale. I visited United Market in San Rafael with three family members. Heres how it all went down. We were in a hurry, so we split up, two carts four ladies. The plan was to get in and out and you know what? We did it in record time. They had everything we needed and at reasonable prices. The line was decent and the food was fresh.

I like United Market a lot its a very clean and well-stocked environment the staff there is always friendly and attentive. I go there about once a week to grab sandwiches for me and my father and then make some of the best Ive had if you ever get a chance stop by and give a shout out to Joe the manager

Nice store...a Marin staple...been here since Studebakers were still been sold...people friendly though some have attitude n I suppose is the only thing making them feel important ...the deli is great at the one by Grand Ave but salads I dont buy....dont like the way they TASTE...thats my opinion but I can tell you Safeways a lot better......overpriced for sure but if u have the money to spend n want them catering to you then u will...old fashioned feeling...oh they have Maple Honey Turkey n Ham too....the turkey is the best thing there n not many people carry it...Safeway doesnt....try it its outa this world especially in sandwiches...which they make n the best in my opinion....I wont shop there for groceries but the deli is sure worth it. ..

United has a great meat department. Carlos at the meat department is super cool and knowledgeable. The meat is fresh and there is good variety. There prices are a little high but worth the quality!

United Markets is one of the few, unfortunately rare, examples of a local business that continually succeeds despite ongoing competition from large chains. There are only two stores - this one and one in San Anselmo. Ive only shopped at this one.Think of this as a cross between the (now defunct) Andronicos and Berkeley Bowl. They market everything you would expect in larger supermarkets, but with less selection.Things I particularly like are the bakery, meat department, deli, and most importantly, their salad bar! For a period of time (over a decade ago), their salad bar was the source of all the raw vegetables I ate. I was working nearby and once or twice a week I would make a large salad (no dressing) and bring it home where it would last for 2-4 meals.Theres plenty of staff, no self-checkout, always clean, and always have enough checkout lines open that your wait to checkout will be short - if there is any wait at all!Its a small footprint, downtown store. So dont expect expansive parking - its smallish lot is always near full but only once have I had to hunt for a space. And dont expect the wide aisles of its larger competitors.

I wish there was a United Market where I live. Its a great grocery store with lots to choose from. A nice hot food bar, a stocked salad bar and a wide variety of cheeses, breads and bakery items.

I have been going to Safeway ever since I moved here a year ago. I then realized that all the produce is cheaper at United, and on top of that, the customer service is way better. Bonus points for being closer to my apartment. They have almost everything I need, even moreso than Safeway. Maybe Safeway is better for getting the store brand stuff, but Im sticking with United for now on.
