Sports Basement in San Ramon is a great place to shop for all your sporting needs. Plus, they have an awesome bike repair shop with friendly and knowledgeable staff.This isnt one of those bike shops that ignores you if dont look like a Tour de France rider. They also dont sneer if you dont have the $10k bike. They welcome riders in all shapes and sizes with all types of bikes.

Came in to rent an ibis ripmo AF mountain bike from sports basement in San Ramon. The bike speaks for itself. Lots of fun. The icing on the cake was the service these folks provided from setting up the rental online, picking up the bike and having it fitted for me and the return process. I’m a longtime REI member and, let me tell you, the service we received from Jesus at the San Ramon Sports Basement surpassed any I have received at REI. People, if you need ski or snowboard gear/clothing, head to Sports Basement. Our area snow/ski resources have closed and I was pleasantly surprised by the selection! I worked with the bike shop staff (Sean, Jeff an co.) and they were fantastic and veryhelpful. Everytime I have used the bike shop I have always been impressed with customer service and never had to wait more than a few days if not minutes for my bike and they are always open and honest.

The San Ramon location is a short walk from my work, and I bike to work. When Ive needed service, most recently new brake pads and new headset bearings, Ive just come in before work, dropped it off, then come back on my break and theyve had me ready to go. You cant say fairer than that.Also, I once rocked up after a long and brutally hot ride, dehydrated as all hell, and they have a fantastic water fountain right by the service department. Absolute lifesaver.

Im only sharing because the Customer Service has be unbelievable compared to competing stores like REI. I will always go to Sports Basement first...all around great attitudes and very helpful.

After taking my bike there for a year, they only messed up one time and they contaminated my brake pads/rotors while doing a break bleed. After riding finally getting on the trail about a week after the bleed, I immediately noticed the brakes not working nearly as well. I called them and they said to bring it in, after taking in the bike, they called me back a couple days later and said that they would take the blame for it and paid for both new rotors and new brake pads. It takes a good business to admit they might be wrong and do what they can to make it right.

The last few times at the store, I have bought several items including shoes. They used to ask if I wanted a bag or If I wanted the items put in the shoe box. Now all I get is a stare as I put the items in the shoe box myself.

First time here since shelter in place. Employees check your temp at the door. Everyone diligently wearing their masks.👏 Great customer service all around, as usual. My son wanted longer laces for the kids athletic shoes he found on sale, so the store employee went out of her way to make sure we found the right ones and even laced them up for him. Super nice touch.

Shopping at sports basement has always been a great experience, everyone is always very helpful.

I have been going to Sports Basement for a while and usually have a good experience... however my experience this weekend was very poor. First they check your temperature when you come in-very haphazardly... one guy checks your forehead and another your wrist... and no one looks at the temperature... so why do it?? Once your in the store... I had an attendant follow me into the womens clothes area to tell me to adjust my mask higher... when no one was around me for miles. After feeling stalked.. I found a pullover that I liked that was marked down- and I liked it so much- I wanted to buy it in both colors. However unfortunate for me.. the new colored one did not have tags on it- and it was the last one of its kind. Regardless I took it up to the counter to buy it... only to feel interrogated about was there another- no!... Then- but-these are the same but different colors... did I know that?? Really... epiphany! But he walked over and checked anyway..., and then told me that the pants were marked down but not the pullovers. But- the pullover I had listed the mark-down price on the tag... With that after 20 minutes waiting in line... he told me he would honor the one pullover- which clearly listed the marked down price- but not the other with no price... He made me feel like I had down something wrong- because one item had no tags and was not marked, and apparently- They! marked the other wrong... It was a rude, terrible buying experience- by a bunch of callous guys- who should not be in customer service. It will be a long time before I go back to Sports Basement again!

I came into the store to shop for skis for myself and my daughter. We had good service from Marcelo. But I really want to acknowledge and recognize the service by Ron. He went above and beyond to answer our questions, anticipated our needs and I would say delivered 5 star++ service. I would recommend this place to anyone needing sporting equipment and especially to shop with Ron!

Sports basement is fun to browse through, it definitely doesnt come off as a big box chain, and has a very comfortable ambiance. They have fun events during the year, and you may be able to find a great bargain. They have a nice ski and bicycle section, and carry quality brands and accessories. Do put it on your go to places for sporting equipment, and accessories.

Sports Basement feels small but has a lot going on! The staff are friendly and helpful and the quality and variety of merchandise is great!

Id give them 5 stars but recently when reserving snow gear to rent, you never get what you ordered size-wise and need to double-check before you leave. Its a little extra work that would be great if eliminated. Other than that, great selection of things you may need and the staff is cool.

I love this store. All of the locations actually. Great inventory, better prices than their competition and friendly, helpful employees. They also offer really good benefits when you become a member. Its a small fee to start a membership, ($25 I think?) but it more than pays for itself the first time you shop there because of the discounts members get. Great store. I highly recommend the whole company.

Rented a bike from them to bring up to Yosemite. The bike was a little messed up, and when I told them at return time, they made it right. Theyve got my business for life.

Went to get my bike inspected as to why it was losing air. Extremely efficient. Quickly diagnosed that there was a leak in the tube near the presta valve. Replaced the tube as well as oiled the chain. Great service!

Love the selection of sports nutrition (fuel gels and electrolyte mixes)! I was able to purchase sample sizes to try out which is helpful. I got some great advise on new trail shoes. And I appreciated the responsible approach the store has taken by taking my temperature before shopping and using guided arrows to keep everyone safe. Good amount of parking and the staff is very friendly.

Good selection of running shoe brands and sizes. Minus one star for customer service: after spending $185 I wasnt even offered the option of a bag. As I exited the store balancing a pile of shoes, socks, and a hydro flask cap, I noticed a guy getting in his car with a sports basement bag. Maybe you have to spend over $200 to get the 10-cent bag?

I am currently visiting from out of state and came upon this store to buy a specific patagonia sweater ive always wanted and a jacket for me and my sister! June helped me out with finding the exact color I wanted for the patagonia and suitable jackets for my sister and I! He was super kind and helpful and willing to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I also like how big the store is and the rest of the staff seemed kind as well.

At this outdoor retailer, you will find quality equipment, knowledgeable people, and reasonable pricing. Spend a few dollars to become a Basementeer to secure an additional discount off your purchases and other useful perks. The best thing about this company is that they hire and coach people who use what they sell so they know what they are doing and they do it really well. My visit included a quick temperature check at the door and then multiple offers of assistance by staff members in different departments. When I could not find something, someone appeared to help in the blink of an eye. As a person who loves to hike and camp, Sports Basement is a fabulous destination whenever I need supplies or equipment.

Excellent rental experience. The staff was super efficient and knowledgeable and had me out the door with gear in under 30 minutes. Everything fit perfectly and I was very comfortable...no freezing feet for the first time ever. The price can not be beat. I will definitely use their rental service again. Highly recommend.

Sports Basement is a hidden gem in San Ramon and their staff are exceptional. Super nice customer experience ever!! Bike Shop staff are outstanding!! I needed help to tune and fix my sons bike that was not used for some time. Cordell Walker was the service rep who helped me and made me feel at home and showed me how to do things anyone one should know like adjust tire pressure, but I did not know, but all the same, he made me feel comfortable to get help and he serviced the bike immediately while I was waiting right there. I would be a customer for life!!

Very good experience. Everything worked perfectly (online order, customer support, pickup, returns).I just wish there were a bit more choice of boots (just one type, or a different one for $15 more / weekend), but those available worked just fine for me.

Always have my member discount and there are always great offers.Already went on a snowshoeing expedition with SB and it was t the best experience ever. So I just finished a 30 mile spartan race yesterday. I knew I needed fuel for the race but didn’t know what to get. The employees were super helpful on helping me pick out what I need ed to bring for my big race and thanks to them I was able to finish consuming the right products. Sports basement is the best, they even got me ready for my race escape from Alcatraz. Love this place

My experience is always great when I shop at The Sports Basement. The Customer Service is always positive.

Its really 3.5 stars, but that extra half star is for customer service. this location, while far less organized and stocked than the Walnut Creek location (note to managers: the product flow here is totally chaos and is a hurdle for new shoppers), is overrun with helpful and attentive employees (including one who eats on the sales floor; thats a fail). one in particular, Jamie, sets the bar for frenzied efficiency and problem solving. we really need her in Congress or Health Care, but for the meantime she is an asset to what otherwise looks like a struggling store in an abysmal location.

I had the best ski boot fit experience. Unfortunately, after I was fit all the ski resorts closed. I just returned from a 5 day ski trip and my boots are amazing, a little tight the first 2 days but now they are perfect, high performance and very responsive.

Need to make a separate line for people that already made a reservation online. This isnt the first time i had to stand in line with everyone else that were picking up skis. All i had to do was pick up my equipment. But i had to wait in line with people that were trying their gear on. This doesnt make sense. If you have already reserved your gear and payed for it you should be able to walk up and get it. Instead i waited 20 minutes to get my gear.

Great place to rent bikes and snow equipment. I am a regular shopper here and also have their membership in which I get 10% off on any item I buy!

Went there for ski boots. Staff explained the features of the boots and compared options and brands. In trying boots for size they heard my input on fit and were able to get me to a boot that fit perfectly.

Didnt receive a call when my order came in. Did receive an email that said the phone number is wrong but phone number was correct. Came to pick up my new bike with out my receipt and they couldnt pull it up in there database to show my $2200 deposit or my $360 gift card. I had to come back the next day and try to get my bike again. When I finally got my bike I didnt the set up guide, brochure, nothing. They just gave me the bike. Staff was nice but disorganized.

Sports Basement is the best! They have pretty much anything you want as far as sporting goods (except golf gear). All the top brands and the best prices around. Every employee in every department is pretty much an expert on all the gear. Theyre SUPER helpful. They know the merchandise inside and out. They help you find the perfect fit for what you need and dont just try to upsell you. Hands down the best place to buy shoes. They do a gait analysis and know just the right shoe for your foot. Plus theyre local to the Bay Area. I wont shop anywhere else!

I was in the hunt for snow gear to take on a weekend trip to Tahoe. This place has a lot of selection and really helpful staff. The secret gem is the rental section. I was able to find boots, snow pants, and gloves for the whole family, including a toddler.Prices are very reasonable and they dont charge for the pickup and drop off days, so you dont pay for days while youre in transit. Staff was friendly and quite helpful; I was able to make a size exchange after leaving without issue. I did notice that sizes can be limited especially on the weekends and with such a good snow season this year.They also allow for reservations online with 48 hours notice. Im hoping to try out their ski equipment rental on the next visit and look forward to coming back.

This was the greatest find! We rented clothes for 4 people at a very reasonable price for your Tahoe trip. They all came clean and in great shape. Some even new. i did under estimate a bib for my 3 y/o son, and we needed to rent something once we were in Tahoe. otherwise, it was great. we will likely plan to do again if we make it back up to Tahoe next season!

Great experience. This place is a real ski and board shop. Staff actually knows about the gear. Turnaround times on tuneups are the normal 1 day time frame. This is a breath of fresh air compared to the big box mountain shops in the tri valley. Prices are very reasonable, even though I would have paid more given the quality of the staff and their knowledge. Look forward to supporting this store and avoiding the big box corporate machines.
