I live in a camper, which replaced the old motorhome Ive been in for the last 7 years. I moved my solar panels to the new rig, but decided to upgrade to a lithium battery (from the old AGMs) because my new rig is tiny and I dont have room or weight capacity for the old batteries (6 batteries, 400 lbs vs. 1 lithium battery, 100 lb.). Backwoods Solar has been around for at least 20 years here in northern Idaho...20 years ago I spoke with them about putting solar on my house (I couldnt afford it at the time, so nothing came of that), so I called them to consult about components. They advised me on lithium vs. lead-acid battery capacity. They looked up information about my existing charge controller to determine whether it would work with a lithium battery (it will not). I gave them the specs on my panels and they advised me on setup options and alternatives for a new controller. I bought the battery and controller for a competitive price. I appreciate their thoroughness in asking questions about my requirements to ensure they proposed the right system. The components are high-quality. I will go to Backwoods Solar again for future needs.
I have been referencing and recommending this company and their catalog to anyone interested since at least 2009. Very good, helpful people always able to answer any question Ive had.
The people that backwoods solar electric have been wonderful to us.theyve been very informative have offered to help with any advice needed once we get ready to set things up. They took the time to figure out what package was best for my wife and I. So far we really like the people there and look forward to getting this hooked up and maybe coming back for another one.
I cannot say more about the customer service at Backwoods Solar. With new 2020 NEC, I had an inspector requiring an outdoor shutoff. Brian went above and beyond to help get the parts ordered and next day aired fromnthe manufacturer. Will always doing buisness with this awesome company.
Great prices if you are capable of connecting this stuff yourself. Better off going to a company that will install the product as this one does not and will not help you find someone who does. Im disabled and have a limited income. So took a LONG TIME TO SAVE!!!! To help eleveate bills. Well, putting the panels on the roof was one thing. But from there even with the confusing as wire diagram. We cant do the rest. Spent $6,000 on batteries alone. They have sat for 6 months cause I cant get the help needed. From local certified electricians, to local handimen. Have contacted everyone in a 60 miles in every direction, NOT A SINGLE PERSON IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA TO BEND OREGON WILL HELP! NOT ONE!In need of a wheelchair as is and trying to get the home handicap accessible.yeah no, cant even live in my own home. We need electricity. Not even the county or state will help get this stuff fixed and wired up. We wasted $15,000 to get a system we cant use, with the understanding we would be able to get help.DO NOT come to this business unless you have the knowledge and know how to do so! You WILL NOT GET HELP!(I want my money back folks! 3 months ago I wrote this review and honestly. I want my money back. Still nobody to help,N.Cali,Central OR, S.OR, E.OR, Nobody! $15k for nothing!!)
We have been doing business with Backwoods for years and love the staff. We will be doing all of our future business as well. We are an off-grid living family and need a company you can rely on for solar equipment.
These folks are sooo cool to work with. They are just plain nice, honest folks and I trust them.. Dr William Nount
Worst business ever! Called to talk about questions on quote. Just because I purchased some items else where they refused to help me with anything. The items I bought I saved huge on from their quote like thousands of dollars. I was still willing to buy the rest from backwoods but he just hung up on me and said he doesnt help people like me...
Great experience, when our old inverter charger went out we decided to go to backwoods. They were very nice and worked on the price for us, would recommend anyone that needs quality solar system components and cares about customer service go here.
I purchased a number of things from them and they have always been honest and competitive. Great folks to deal with.
I have been dealing with Backwoods Solar since going off-grid in 1995. I can not imagine having gone off-grid without their help. There expertise and knowledge probably saved me thousands of dollars over the years. Having an expert you can call and ask questions was so helpful when I was starting out. I will still occasionally call them for helpful hints even after all these years. They are always helpful. I can not say enough kind words about my Backwoods Solar experience.I cant help but comment on Ki Pis review listed as the first review on this forum. This review is so far removed from my experience that something doesnt seem right. Likely Ki Pi didnt hear what he wanted and is now bashing a great company. Also, these systems are not cheap. My own system powers a small home and I have spent thousands to do it right. My own experience would say that an aquaponics farm with pumps and lights would take a gigantic system. And where can you get a decent sine wave inverter/charger for $300. Come on Ki Pi, my inverter cost over $3000 over 8 years ago. Something tells me Ki Pi is not sharing the entire story. You will not regret contacting Backwoods Solar. Great people and a great company.
Most of my system i bought at backwoods. they helped me design it with helpful information as to what will and what will not work i have been up and running for 2 years and am happy when i am ready to upgrade backwoods will be my go to guys they are all dedicated to helping people with their alternative energy needs 5 stars to backwoods solar
Great transaction, knowledgable staff, good prices!
Backwoods Solar seemed nice at first 6 months ago when I asked for a quote for an off grid system to supply 54 Kw continous draw 24 hrs a day and was quoted a price of $40,000. BUT this week when contacted via their Contact Us form providing requirements for a system requiring nearly 80% less power draw . I was told These conversations usually go better by phone. I replied and respectfully requested all correspondence for this particular system be via email because we are building an aquaponics farm and my phone time was limited at best because of my need to contact (and I listed the agencies for them) federal, state, and local authorities, find lenders for capital, federal and state agricultural grants etc.Well guess what they did not do any research even though I provided my exact needs for power. because I would not speak to them directly they gave me a totally outrageous price of, drum roll please, $40,000. Pallets of solar photovaltaic cells for electricity generation can be bought for under $5.8k(20-25 pcs). A 1500w-2000w pure sine wave inverter costs around $300 at the best I have seen. And I am absolutely positive a power center for such a relatively small small load does not cost $35,000 for a charge controller, circuit box, battery bank, and the rest of the accessories needed to complete the system. If they dont want to do the work researching components needed to put the system, list them and actually give me a real quote so I can acquire an alternative energy grant which I asked for a list of components specifically for this exact reason) it doesnt seem like theyre very interested in your needs or will do a very good job for customer service. They may have a good product line but thats nothing without a competent and HELPFUL sales staff.
