Best bagels in OC hands down. I hadnt had good bagels in years before finding this place. Super friendly environment and exceptional ingredients for their sandwiches. The bagels themselves are the real stars so perfect and fluffy and bready. Come with an appetite or be ready for some leftovers. Line was out the door when I left but they are definitely worth the wait. Staff is super friendly and have good recommendations.
Honestly the best bagels in all of Orange County. Some really fun and interesting bagel sandwiches, and the bagels themselves are phenomenal. They have different specials every week and occasionally switch up the whole menu. My husband and I like to order two different sandwiches and have half of each. Do yourself a favor: dont hesitate, come on in, and eat something amazingly delicious.
Saw this spot pop up in my Instagram feed and was intrigued by the variety of bagel flavors and amazing looking sandwiches. I ended up stopping by and picking up the Loaded Lox Bagel sandwich for a late work from home morning. The service was incredibly friendly and the guy who helped me was patient and thoughtful in his suggestions. The sandwich was perfect, everything I could have wanted! Thick, smooth cream cheese, dill, capers, thinly shaved red onions and gorgeous pieces of fish perfectly portioned on a gruyere bagel that was crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. Ended up getting four bagels to take home along with the loaded lox cream cheese, it really is that good. Definitely going to be returning as a few other sandwiches caught my eye.
O m g. Im upset I didnt find this place sooner but BLESSED that I discovered them because I will be going every day forever. For COVID19 theyre limiting occupancy to 2 parties at a time, have single use menus, require masks, and all staff wear gloves. When we walked in Jason greeted us and walked us through the menu and what they offered. After trying to decide over the entire menu (because everything looked amazing) we opted for one I gave in (everything bagel with egg, fancy ham, tomato jam, and cheese) and one street corn bagel (jalapeno cheddar bagel with corn spread) and they were PHENOM.I thought I didnt eat cream cheese but I have been changed forever and I will only eat it from Dough Exchange. Their bagels were amazing and the flavors in the fun spreads and bagel sandos (the tomato jam omg) are SO good.We cant wait to come back for more!
Highly recommend. Excellent food & drink, even better service.
One of the best Bagel so far!!! those dudes are doing fantastic job. Must try and definitely a place to visit again n again
We got the I Give up bagels and they were amazing. Service was also impeccable. I cant wait to try the other establishments in The Playground.
Frazzled and unorganized operation. Bagels may be good but maybe next time you’ll have a system to run your shop and I’ll be able to enjoy one.
I came to this place urging for a restroom and came out with amazing atention, bagles and a wonderful experience. The guys were so kind and helpfull. This place is awesome ♡
Best bagels EVER. *chefs kiss*
Best bagels in SoCal! If your missing NY bagels, or you just don’t know what NY bagels taste like, you don’t need to go that far, just get the best here at Dough Exchange!Wether you get the bagels freshly made and eat it on the spot, or if you buy some next day bagels and toast it at home, you can’t go wrong! The flavors/toppings have the perfect amount, and the bagel itself has the right amount of chew. Also, these bagels are not small at all! They definitely larger than average bagels you buy, and with the smears that are available, you can have a few meals lined up for the week!I recommend the jalapeño cheddar bagel with the Esquites smear (it’s elote corn in a cup of cream cheese!!). Also, the jalapeño cheddar bagel does not just have jalapeños on top of the bagel, it is chopped up and spread evenly inside the bagel. This really matters if you are going to bake the bagel after on another day since the jalapeños don’t get lost and melt off!Oh and this isn’t just a bagel shop, get their famous Playground Burger that serves starting at 11:30PM (no take out)! The flavors are complex and are layered extremely well, with the bun as one of the highlights just like the rest of the inside! It is an all in one package. At the moment, you also can’t go wrong with their in house wine sommelier crafted choices where they are all $20 a bottle! There are some good finds here! One last note, there are amazing items in their case for sale, ranging from cornbread (already baked to take home batter- best cornbread I have ever had anywhere!!!) to dessert items, drinks, and premium meat (at this moment... Japanese A5 BMS 12 cuts - in a non pandemic world, these are almost impossible to get as top restaurants in the world would claim them! This is a rare opportunity and find!). BUT if you have a sweet tooth, make sure to pick up caneles! I am telling you, the 9 pack of the minis are not enough, if you tried one on the way home, you don’t have any by the time you get home!Say Hi to Chef Jason! He is the heart and soul of this place, and his staff are amazing, kind, and passionate!
$90 worth of bagels- we tried everything… the $24 bagel lox wasn’t worth that price . Over price bagels with premium toppings
Best bagel sandwiches ever! Went two days in a row. First day I had I Gave In, and the Ruben the second day. Im sure the rest are just as delicious!
Showed up on a Friday afternoon. 2 hours free parking in the garage. No line. Ordered a I gave in and Street corn bagel to go. Waited outside and the bagels were brought outside when they were ready. Both bagels were delicious but I Gave In was amazing. Definitely, the best bagels Ive had! I know it seems pricey but they are worth it.
As a native New Yorker I know there is only one place to get a real New York bagel...New York. As far as my search for the holy grail of bagels in Orange County is concerned...Dough Exchnge is the winner by far. They were fresh and generously garnished with their respective flavoring. I recommend them lightly toasted with a schmear of cream cheese. As Arnold would say....Ill be back.
Heavenly divine! Treat yourself to one of their incredible bagel sandwiches and don’t miss out on their esquite cream cheese. These are probably the best bagels in Orange County and as good as the best bagels in NYC
I wanted to find a local bagel place . So, I wanted to try this place out . And I ordered the bagel sandwich I gave In it was a bit salty and condiments was just slopped in. $14 for this bagel was not worth it.My order took more than 15 minutes and the lady upfront was snappy when asking her if my order is ready. If you dont mind waiting and just looking for a place to have wine or mimosas with a breakfast sandwich this is the spot.
The best bagels I have had on the west coast. Rivals what I have eaten in New York and Montreal. Great traditional flavors and amazing new ones.
I’m visiting Southern California from the East Coast - friends brought over a box of bagels that could rival the best in New York! Great assortment and flavors. Can’t wait to go there in person.
Excellent bagels. A little pricey. But worth it
Excellent. The energy level is great and the bagels, hash browns are a treat.
So good!🤤
Absolutely amazing and delicious every single time! The best small business restaurant in the area...hands down!
Superb bagel sandwiches!
Chef Jason does it again! When they first opened I felt like I had stumbled onto the best kept secret in OC. Top shelf gourmet bagels and other delights (the canapés are amaze balls) and of course the kind of fun “riffs” on traditional bagels that you’d expect from the playground chefs)... A visit to Dough and exchange was a kind of religious ritual that I would work into my morning routine as often as possible. These days the place is still just as great as it ever was… except now Im not the only one in line. The word got out. You cant keep a place this good a secret for very long. The line goes fast though and you can sip a coffee from nearby coffee muse while you wait. (I was told they didnt serve coffee so as not to compete with the struggling local coffee house around the corner. Not many restaurants would be so community minded) Chef jason is a real class act.
There goes my aspirations of rocking a six pack..............again.Dough Exchange, the brain child from the people behind The Playground, serves up creative baked goods in Downtown Santa AnaIm more of an ice cream/milk tea boba kinda of guy, but I do partake of doughy/glazed/frosted/sprinkled concoctions from time to time. And, when the items are whisked in a big bowl of imagination, my interest is piqued & Im game to try. While not quite the diverse selection of other hipster bakeries, there are some gems ready to please, all made from scratch daily.Chocolate tart & girl scout cookieWhat can I say? Im a chocoholic & the chocolate tart pleased all my senses. Chocolate lovers will not be wanting after this, especially with that delicious crumbly crust. The girl scout cookie was like a macaroon kicked up a notch. Besides chocolate, Im also a coconut fan & combining the two is a match made in heaven. However, I thought there was too much caramel, to the point where the cookie kept sticking to my teeth with each bite. Dental bills, anyone? Still, it tasted great.Wagyu beef meat pie & Fruity Pebbles glazed doughnutAs Stone Cold Steve Austin would say, Oh hell yeah!!. The meat pie was absolutely delicious. I grew up on empanadas, so Im no stranger to savory pies. Ground Wagyu beef, potatoes, spices stuffed inside a flaky shell. Definite crowd pleaser. The Fruity Pebbles doughnut is very sweet. I loved the crunch of the colored rice with each bite. A little too much dough for me, but it should be said Im not much of a doughnut fan.Hayleys Smash cheesecake & blue ginger oat barYes, I said cheesecake! Not a dense cheesecake, I savored each bite & Mmmmmmmmd as I dove into this decadent dish. I havent had cheesecake in a long while & this made me realize what Ive been missing. The blue ginger oat bar was the healthy snack. Very soft, very moist, like an oatmeal cookie with a tasty fruit filling. Yes, maam, can I have another?Lemon IPA barA gift from the gods, the lemon IPA bar had the perfect balance of brightness to sweet. The texture was ethereal, like custard. I didnt taste IPA, but I dont drink so I wouldnt be a good judge on that. I did taste the lemon & I did finish every single nook & cranny of my lemon IPA bar. Another winner!Dough Exchange also sells sandwiches, pasta, bread & coffee. Everything needed for a meal from entrée to dessert can be obtained when shopping here.Service was good. The friendly employees were cordial & smiling, helping me decide what to get. Complimentary water is available by the register. The sole restroom was clean. Just putting it out there, but it wasnt me that clogged the toilet. I just had to tinkle ;pA few tables located in the patio outside to enjoy your eats, Dough Exchange is more a stop n go place. Definitely not for large groups & hours of conversation.Metered parking, with a pay lot on Third St., between Bush & Spurgeon. $0.75 cents per hour with a 2 hour max.Dough Exchange is a delightful bakery not afraid to push the envelope of what to expect from a bakery. With interesting creations, such as the pizza doughnut, your tastebuds & brain cells will be stimulated at all the different flavor combinations. I definitely see myself coming back for an entire box of the Wagyu beef meat pies & about a 10 pound brick of the lemon IPA bar. Leave your skinny jeans & glucometer at home. Go ahead & indulge today!Highly recommend!NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM
I love it delicious 😋
