Blessing to have such a great selection in the midst of downtown. A saving grace at times and reliable grocer always. Local beers and foods, deli, salad and hot bar. Produce and products from soap to water bottles and incense and much otherwise.

It’s my neighborhood market. I don’t give it 5 stars because there isn’t a butcher or fish counter. BUT there is a good selection of beef, pork, chicken and fish (usually salmon). The cheese section is ample and there’s a small selection of brined goodies. The deli section with coffee and smoothie/juice bar has tasty options. The veggies and fruit selection is great and I would say it’s reasonably priced for organic groceries. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful.

Security guard roaming. Got some organic tofu for 2.99. made in Salinas. Had their fresh grinded peanut butter. Someone taught me to eat with carrots. I had celery (almost the same). Cashiers and staff were very nice. Organic strawberries, 4.99. Cant wait to try them. Got some nutritional yeast 5.99.

Its a well run store that I visit several times a week. Youd think, being in downtown Santa Cruz, that itd feel kinda scuzzy. Somehow they deal well with the downtown drama that rolls in off the street, and keep it clean and friendly. Well and thoughtfully stocked. Not particularly cheap but consider the quality and the location.

They have the friendliest and most helpful grocers. Their deli food is always the freshest and their little cafe has yummy pastries. Plus a unique wine and brewed section.

Seems like there veggies and other products look alot fresher. A verity of products that army at you other grocery store. Awesome deli products. A very friendly knowledgeable staff. They also have fresh milk in a glass bottles. Oh yeah..

Nice Clean market. Stopped here to grab some drinks and sandwiches for the drive back home. Staff was nice and the bakery had the most amazing little chocolate cakes!

Although the prices can be unwieldy, I can imagine that the cost of doing business in downtown Santa Cruz must be unwieldy too. Still, there no store in the downtown area that has a product line this store has coupled with the very important fact that Ive shopped there many times without waiting in long lines at the cash register. Also, the opportunity to make up my own hot dish and have an immediately ready hot meal is very convenient.

The cashier was happy to get more of a particular beer from in the back for me. Nice sale on chocolate bars too🥰

To have a full service natural food store between Pacific and Front Street in Downtown SantaCruz is such a gift ! I’m downtown a lot & this place is really shoppable. Of course for the more out of the way health supplies I still go to Staff Of Life, or the Westside NewLeaf. But I do an actual HALF of my shopping at this New Leaf and I love them. If you haven’t tried their TURKEY AVOCADO SANDWICH ~> they are out of this world !! It’s a destination sandwich !

Great place to shop they have all the stuff

First time at this market. Idk the name of the cashier I had but he was extremely rude. Instead of offering to sign up to points he just rudely dismisses me after my confusion of paying on their monitor. Funny how things. He gave me a bag with ripped handles and basically tosses me the bag after double bagging the ripped one like ok ? It’s my fault you gave me a ripped bag. It’s just showed more his lack of manners.

Judgmental stares and less than desirable customer service. Little do they know what they think or say of/about me says more about them then it does me.

If you go in the back door everything smells so fresh because thats where the produce is. The display is just wonderful. Everyone in here is very friendly and helpful too.

Coffee bar was closed (is there nowhere to buy a decent cup of joe after 8pm anymore?) But otherwise this is a nice market with expensive high-quality goods.

Everytime I get a sandwich, it comes home wrong. I try and order the normal selection of how they make sandwiches, for example, lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo and mustard.... then I come home to find my sandwich is dry. For a top dollar sandwich, I believe my sandwich should be made correctly.

Heres where you go to get specialty hippie treats like gluten-free lotus chips and spirulina kombucha. Very friendly staff. A cut above Whole Foods.

Awesome little shop. Little, though so not everything you need might be there. No deli, small deli selection. Hot bar, sandwich bar, and juice bars are great. Hot bar usually just has breakfast burritos. Great staff.

Wonderful food

This is a really well stocked market. They have everything. They really have a great selection. They have some good sales. They have a food bar like Whole Foods but it’s a little bit cheaper. The employees are very friendly and helpful. They have a really nice garden section with gifts. The beauty and health section is larger and more varied than many stories like this. It’s a nice place to sit and eat your food. You can get a coffee as well, espresso, lattes as well as smoothies.

Generally good service but they need a better system when it comes to the deli/bakery section.Went to the counter to buy a dessert from the case which required an employee to obtain and stood there for 5 minutes, while 4 employees looked at me and ignored me. I made eye contact and even raised a hand to catch there attention. Still no response. I watched 3 customersthat arrived after me, walk up and be greeted without question and served. Finally after seeing customer 4 start to order, I interrupted and told then I had been waiting there for some time. The employee I talked to (the same one who had made eye contact with me more than once previously) raised his eyebrows in shock and finally proceeded to help me.A simple number system would eliminate the awkward necessity of having to seemingly cut in front of a customer who had in reality arrived after you.

The security guard at the downtown location is a rude bigot. If youre transgender be prepared to be laughed at and called sir, like happened to me. The staff wont do anything about it if you complain. If youre homeless be prepared to be treated like youre not welcome and your business isnt appreciated by the guards. But every homeless person already knows that First Alarm security is notorious for treating homeless people like dirt. The fact that new leaf uses them speaks volumes about their contempt for homeless customers. Do yourself a favor and use the new leaf on mission instead. They dont use First Alarm as door guards.

Great selection, far better than Whole Foods, awesome local sourcing. Decades of serving only Santa Cruz, it shows in the quality of produce, variety of local bakeries (yes plural!) and the fresh hot foods lineup.

Had a lot of great selections for an awesome price. Was my first time in there and I was expecting over priced items like whole foods. Not from the area but if i was Id definitely be shopping there more often.

Great little specialty grocery store. They have a nice selection of upscale items. There is a parking lot in the back of the store which has a back entrance. Its not very big though. The isles are kind of narrow and small so it gets a little tight during prime-time hours. They have a nice produce department, deli, and hot-prepared food section. It is a little bit on the small side so the selection is limited to, lets say, compared to a Whole Foods. They have an awesome department which is separated to the side of the store where they carry all of the body and health care products. Great selection of natural choices. The staff are friendly and the store is clean.

This is a wonderful small chain of healthy and organic foods. They have very nice produce, always local when possible. There is a deli with truly delicious sandwiches and salads. The downtown New Leaf is a gift to everyone living downtown as it is the only complete grocery store there. The store on the Westside is much larger and has a bigger selection than the downtown store, but the quality is equally as good. Both stores have free parking.

Stuff is pretty expensive, about the same as Trader Joes, without the crowded lines and wait time. Definitely not as big of a selection as Traders either

I love new leaf super fresh food

Food was good, sort of like a boogie Whole Foods. The staff are very nice and deal well with the kind of clientele that stores like this attract. Customers were being pretty rude while we were in there and the staff reacted well. The seating is unfortunately usually occupied by a homeless individual or two and there’s only three seats so you’ll need to find somewhere else to eat.

Price way. To high for losers

Just another large company posing as a LOCA health foods tote. Over priced to make someone else rich who doesn’t even live in California.Not fair to their employees, and after I resigned (with conformation from office in Oregon) the manager told everyone who called (as a reference) I was fired.Don’t was you money here go to the farmers market and support farmers directly.

Great health store; nice bakery aisle and nice selection of smoothies

This grocery store in DT SC is small, but has really great options for quick meals. The sandwich counter is especially good--I tend to make my own on the sourdough roll, which is delicious. Great smoothies, nice staff. Love it!

I got to the store with one other guy 5 mins after close. Security denied me entrance. Turned around and walked away but noticed the other guy ( security guards friend) stuck around. I turned around and went back to the door to see the security had let him in.... Im offended that a loyal customer like myself gets treated so poorly by the staff here at new leaf. Just wanted a water bottle after working outside all day. Other guy went in for “ground coffee” I’m assuming for the next day because it’s 8pm. I came back about 15 mins later to see if I could file a complaint and a girl was standing at the door on her cell phone shooing me away. I will never step foot in this store again. I’m telling everyone I know that shops here about my experience. What a shame.

Great food. Great service. Excellent produce. A very wide and wonderful variety of items at competitive prices. I often find great deals at both 41st and Westside markets. Downtown is much smaller but still great.

I dont shop much here because it doesnt look my style... Very high class looking. But I like they have a nut butter grinder for fresh peanut butter and almond butter. And I once got drinking chocolate I really liked here.

New leaf as a company is cold heartedand tows their customer’s vehicles if they have been in their parking lot for an hour and a half.I don’t support their callous greediness.

I am a frequent customer at new leaf and would say they have good quality products however their service is very rude; today I spent 50 dollars on my groceries and when I asked them for quarters back because it is the only way I can do my laundry (there is no cash to coin machine) they refused, I found myself having to beg for quarters, they gave me a few but not the three dollars in quarters necessary to do my laundry explaining that they needed so quarters. I have been going for two years but today after not being able to even choose how I would like my change back after paying 50 dollars, its safe to say I am never going again, so much for a community market .

Im noticing more frequently that they have out dated products in their store. I try to check my purchases carefully but sometimes something will slip by. I purchased crackers yesterday and today saw their best by date was 9/17/19. Even their produce is iffy.

Small by any standards, but their aisles are stuffed with good stuff. Its not cheap, but most everything here is natural or organic and there are things here, like certain non dairy creamers and milks, that I cant find at Safeway or Whole Foods. If youre in the area and you need groceries, its a good spot. The parking lot fills up quickly with people going downtown (which theyre not supposed to park there for), and even though they have a LOT of stuff here, the variety can be limited at times.
