Perfection. The metal selection isnt huge but makes up for it in pure quality. Only record shop Ive ever seen with archspire and atheist lps. Also great funk, rap, and rock section as well. Great AFFORDABLE prices make it a go to spot for when ever im in the Santa Cruz area

If you are on a hunt for a classic record- be it a vinyl, cassette, or cd- Streetlight is an amazing place to find treasures. The staff is very knowledgeable about so many different types of music that, if you arent sure where to start, you can merely ask them for a recommendation. They can also help to track down a specific artist in their vast rows of tunes. They also have new cd releases, so, if you arent feeling so reminiscent, there are options for you, too!

I absolutely adore this record shop they have a very wide variety of records. I always make sure to make a stop here when we visit SC. If you do plan on visiting this shop be prepared to spend a solid check because this shop is the absolute mother lord of records— not to mention their selection of posters, pins and apparel.

Selection is shoddy at best. For an old school classic record store the 80s selection is garbage. Nothing rare, nothing collectible and nothing worth stopping in for. Dont waste your time.

I love the authenticity of this place. This is the only shop I go to get my records in Santa Cruz. The people here are open, honest and happy to help you find whatever you’re looking for. This place has a creative and real attitude that I just love. It’s nice to find a genuine business in the array of cookie cutter, yes man places that you see everywhere today. Everyone knows what they’re talking about here and are willing to share the love and their appreciative of music. I love this shop!

Good record store but not as good as the San Jose location. The selection here is a lot more scarce compared to San Jose.

You can get whatever you want to the Old School way, shifting through bins and asking the staff what you are looking for. Forget Google, be a human and REALLY find what you are looking for. This could be the last real shopping experience for us all...

Horrible, disgusting music drove me from the store before I could do my long awaited shopping. I complained but was told I was being rude. Will never be back.

Great spot for vinyl with a wide variety. Whover orders does a great job, they have high quality pressings of some important but obscure releases. Prices are what you would expect for retail vinyl, but they do have a large section of used dollar bin items and if you buy 10 or more they are half price!My only complaint is that the reggae section is rather small, especially for Santa Cruz, an area where reggae is incredibly popular.They often have interesting releases playing, its a good way to hear some amazing tunes you may never have found. Ask at the back counter if you like what you hear. My favorite local spot! Im glad places like this still exist!

A santa cruz classic, huge collection

We were visiting from out of town (from Sacramento)Son really liked being able to just walk in and being able to play an electric guitar. He loved it. Loved the sound of his new rift on the quitar.

Great location and had what we were looking for. Bright back those good ole memories. A little dingy/old/dirtier than I would like but the hole in the walls are always the cool places. Sometimes you can bring food in, but I was able to bring my awesome ice cream from down the street inside to much on.

My mandatory stop when in Santa Cruz. This is still one of the best Streetlight locations. I have been coming here since I was 16. No matter of how my taste in music changes this location always has some good tunes.

Like the San Jose Streetlight Records, but more... Santa Cruz. It’s more run down and not as well organized, but it still has an outstanding collection and good deals. I prefer the San Jose Streetlight, but I love to stop into this one when I’m in town, and it’s my favorite one in Santa Cruz. Would definitely recommend to record junkies!(Many thanks to Wade Petrini for the recommendation... my life has been better since!)

Incredible experience in this shop. I was able to randomly purchase Redd Foxx and Richard Pryor stand-up on vinyl for $20. Great atmosphere and all around chill vibes.

Amazing vinyl collections old & new, classical, reggae, rock, country, hip hop, and Indie. The buyers are really knowledgeable about niche vinyl. Theyve got plenty of CDs if thats your thing. Ive gone there since I was a kid but hadnt visited in years. We just got a record player, so Im sure Ill be back for more vinyl.

One of last few places to buy cds. They have a great collection of older music and new.

I always found sumtin good, if not just amazed. The staff were all good folks and if you were patient, during a moment of no customer activity. They would listen with full focus, and if One did not have personal knowledge for a response. They would let another staff know, you may of had to wait for that window but it was always more than worth the time. If they knew of One who knew better but was not there, they would tell you their name and when to find them. They even looked online for answers. I lived north of town and importantly stopped at Streetlight on my way out. One of the main reasons I miss Santa Cruz Co. as much as I do is Streetlight.

Fair selection of the top shelf genres. A much better selection in the SanJose store but that makes it geographically undesirable unless you are in the area.

This place (like the rest of Santa Cruz) used to be iconic. Now it has kinda gone to the birds. The employees were pretty much snotty alt kids with no sense of professionalism when it comes to service. The CDs/records/movies etc are great but nothing you cant find at a rasputin chain. I used to think buying local was better but nowadays it just enables bad businesses to not change bad business practices. The last time I dropped in there was a display of a woman in a dominatrix leather animal mask in lingerie collared up to the wrist of a stuffed teddy bear sitting on a plastic lawn chair. Thats what happens when towns try to keep it weird instead of address the issues destroying their town. The overall feel of the place is grimy. Like the sticky floor of a dated theater. The only reason they get two stars is cause sometimes they carry something good.

They have all kinds of media, even Laserdiscs. Everyone inside is very friendly and they are OK with dogs ins the store.

Just sold a few hundred quality DVDs and Blu-rays to Streetlight and they beat online sites by a mile. Hitchcock fans, Asian horror flick fans, and just plain videophiles-get thee to Streetlight! I want these movies to find good homes. If you have seen Michel Gondry’s “Be Kind Rewind,” you know: music/movie retailers with heart are a gentle and rare breed.
