I visited this store today as a tourist from Out of state. I was promptly told to put on a mask....and rather rudely. .mask mandates have expired in fla. And the state is open. There was no sign on the door that i needed to wear one. I am vaccinated. What is the purpose of getting the shots if you still get snapped at for not wearing a mask? I left this shop without shopping. I wont ever be back in.
I am from out of state and this store was fabulous very helpful staff. Beautiful hand dyed yarn from a local artist. This is a must stop for knitters.
Wow! Wonderful store, filled with like helpful employees. I have been crocheting all quarantine with yarn from Michaels, never again. There was a knitting circle outside when I arrived, tons of books to read, comfortable places to sit, shades, styles, and patterns Ive never dreamed of. They even hold classes. I cannot wait to return to get more yarn!
I love all the knitting notions in this shop as well as the yarn selection. The notion selection is next level.
The Yarn Ladies here are so great — helpful, smart, and ready with good advice. The selection is fantastic (more LITLG, please!!)!
I was excited to buy some locally dyed yarn and needles as I didnt bring mine from home. The first sales person was very friendly and helpful in pointing me to the right section with beautiful hand dyed yarns. I was there less than 60 seconds picking out my $30 skeins of yarn to start a new project. I had my 7 pound toy poodle, who was quiet in my shoulder bag, just poking out her head when an older woman approached me and asked loudly, Is that a service dog? Even before I could answer, she announced in a very nasty tone, We dont allow dogs here! I was floored by her extreme rudeness as was clear by her expression and tone and I just stared at her. I have never been treated so rudely in any YARN shop, of all places. I was immediately turned off and walked out of the store. I wouldve easily spent $100 on a few skeins of yarn and needles and they wouldve had a new customer as we have a house in Palmer Ranch were moving to permanently soon. I will never set foot in this store again and try other shops or order online.
Wonderful selection of yarns. The Owner is very accommodating. A variety of classes with many pattern designers. And Knit Night is very special to meet with other knitters via Zoom.
5 stars is not enough! I LOVE this shop!! They have an incredible selection of yarns, needles & accessories! The staff is so helpful! The sit & knit table is always full of fun, interesting people who are also eager to offer advice & help!! One lady drives down 1 hour+ from Tampa every week. Another lady drives 2hrs+ from West Palm beach every 2 weeks. They dont drive that far because there is not a knit shop closer, they drive that far because A Good Yarn is worth driving to get to.I can not say enough about how wonderful this shop is!! As a new knitter they took me under their wing & helped me to soar on my own! I will forever be grateful to the shop owner, staff & patrons!! A patron for life!!
One of the best, if not the best yarn store I’ve ever been too! Everyone and I mean everyone in the store makes you feel welcomed. The gals working in the store will bend over backwards to help you find exactly what you are looking for and if they don’t have it they will try and get it for you. I wish I had a store like this where I live!
This is a knitters paradise and one of the best yarn shops in the United States, located in Sarasota, FL. My wife is an experienced knitter and is always adding to her yarn stash after shopping here. They have the best selection of hand-dyed yarns and just about every knitting accessory you can think of. They host knitting retreats and often have in-house visits from best selling knitting authors to lecture and give demonstrations. Highly recommended for knitting or crochet of any skill level.
Thank you for the fast service in filling my order and for the sweet surprises included.they made me smile!
By far the best yarn store in Florida, if not the country. My wife says famous knitters and best-selling knitting authors visit the shop for guest appearances and demonstrations. If you need to add or start your yarn stash, buy knitting accessories, or take knitting classes, this is the place in Sarasota, Florida.
By far one of the best knitting shops around. A wide selection of quality yarns in weight, fabrication and cost. There are sample creations throughout to inspire your next project. The staff is friendly and helpful. They also offer quite a range of classes. And you wont feel like a crazy spinster cat lady just because you get excited about snagging some Noro skeins in the sale section.
Great shop! Very helpful!!
Extremely limited hours. After making special arrangements to visit this store and driving 45 minutes to shop, I was not allowed entrance because I had my dog. This small, freshly bathed, restrained in a carrier, pet was not causing any trouble. Ill mail order my supplies before buying at this store.
The best selection of any store Ive found in the area. They also have online ordering for their whole inventory which is noice when I am out of town. Ill be back!
The fiber knitter expert says this is a very nice store with fiber, loom classes, group classes and a nice inventory of quality fiber.
I live in Ohio but when visiting my daughter, this is my favorite shop. A great selection, great ideas, wonderful atmosphere, helpful associates reasonable hours for such a specialized shop!
What a beautiful shop. I felt welcome immediately. The table, surrounded by the most welcoming ladies, was well lit, inviting and comfortable also there is water and coffee available for extended stays. I found everything I wanted and thought I could only get online; supplies for knitting and spinning, fiber (braids and batts) and of course great conversation. There looms as well and the ladies have expanded into needle point as well. Thursdays are extended hours. Lest I forget, they yarn graffittied their trees and back door.
Loved this store since it opened so much I applied for a job.
Bought needles on Saturday tried to exchange them today still in the bag,was turned down they lost a good customer
The friendly, most helpful, biggest selection shop around. Highly recommend come sit and knit, shop, eat, and get to know the people here!
A great selection of yarn plus friendly and helpful staff!
Beautiful yarns, but very expensive.
Helpful fun and great yarn!
Love this store!
I’m really disappointed. A Good Yarn has gone downhill. They recently moved to a new location near I-75, which is a significant downsize from their old location in selection. Whenever I’m in town, I always stopped by their old location and bought at least $200 worth of yarn. I walked in with my mom, and one of the ladies that worked at the store automatically assumed it was my mom that knew how to knit and told her about the yarns they had (while I was left behind standing there). My mom doesn’t know how to knit. Im the young adult that has been knitting for over 15 years.I came on a Saturday, and there were many ladies gathered around a table in the middle of the store, chit chatting away very loudly and obnoxiously, with their chairs in the way of comfortably going through to other parts of the store. It’s a good thing that they have customers supporting them during covid times, although I wish it was like the old store where they had a separate space for the table so it wouldn’t get in the way as much. It’s kind of dark in the store so I felt a little uncomfortable with so many people in there, even though everyone was masked. The entire time I was there, no one said a word to me. They would help the people who walked in after me though. I wasn’t going to buy anything, but I bought a few items since I had traveled from far away. None of their current selections interest me- it used to have a lot of hard-to-find and interesting yarns I liked, but it’s turned into another old lady florida yarn store. I want to support small businesses, but when there’s nothing that looks interesting to buy, and no one is there to help or says hello, I’ll be buying yarn online from now on.
