Reviews that are telling you they have great prices havent been to other hardwood lumber suppliers. Great selection yes but theyre considerably more expensive than Siweks or Renebergs.

I am a novice wood worker that is just getting started with some simpler projects, like cutting boards. I went into Discount Lumber with some ideas in my head, but not exactly sure what I would need. The employees were extremely helpful and took the time to talk me through the project and offered advice on techniques, lumber, using my newly purchased planer and words of encouragement. I brought my 7 year old and 4 year old with me, who can be a handful sometimes at stores. The employee was so good with them and helped keep their attention by hiding little pre-wrapped candies around the shop that they had to hunt around to find. Discount Lumber is a great example of a local business that is operated by people that care about their customers and community. I highly recommend them and will continue to be a patron and support this wonderful local establishment.

This is not a discount lumber shop at all. They have a great variety and honestly they may be the only place in the area for some species but the main hardwoods like walnut, maple, etc are 1 to 3 $ more per linear foot than larger (non big box) lumber yards in the metro. Id say if you are looking for cut offs or really exotic wood this is worth a look but for any project of any size there are better options for your money.

My new favorite place to go. Recently started woodworking as a hobby and didn’t know of any places to get hobby lumber or some exotic species of wood that you can’t get at Home Depot or large retail stores. This place has everything and more I could ask for. Andy has helped me a few times with selecting wood and a few pointers that have helped me quite a bit. If you need wood of all different kinds of lengths or widths, especially some exotic species this is the best place to get it and at great prices. Thank you!

I reached out via email for a quote on a custom-sized section of unfinished walnut butcher block. I received a quick response, paid over the phone and picked up the section a few days later. Their company name is deceiving. While the place is not big, they have a wide variety of beautiful exotic woods. I installed the section of countertop, oiled it up and the finished product turned out wonderful. I could not be happier with my purchase or transaction with Discount Lumber Outlet.

They have an amazing collection of hardwoods both exotic and domestic but it is far from being a discount. They run $3-$5 more a board foot over other local suppliers on the 3 species i have recently purchased elsewhere, that includes the milling. They also sell wood by the pound which seems odd, confusing and a lot of messing around when trying to calculate if its a good deal or not. Good spot to go in an emergency but if you have time there are other more cost effective places to shop.

Discount Lumber has amazing quality of all different types and styles of wood. Our company buys all our wood from here. They can mill anything your looking for within a few days. The owner and staff are really nice guys. The prices are great and generally less than the big stores. I would recommend them to anyone because of their quality of product and prices!

Been a handful of times and theyve always been nice and helpful. A lot of cool exotic stuff. Theyve got walnut scraps by the pound which can be a great deal if you just want smaller pieces of accents and whatnot. Pretty much my first stop if I need some lumber for fine woodworking where the normal Home Depot or Menards garbage wont cut it.

Great place for unique hardwoods. Tim is great to work with. Havent use them yet for custom orders but several friends are very happy with their custom butcher block counter tops.

I ordered a custom made butcher block piece from Andy at Discount Lumber. We used it to build a bar. The communication was superb and the whole process was very easy. Andy made recommendations based on our needs and the wood looks great!

This was a great find. They are a small place but had such an array of wood to choose from. So happy to find this place and process are very reasonable as well. If say if youre looking for something special, go check them out.

I want to echo what others have said regarding the pricing. I cant comment on their other services, but their prices for lumber are hardly discount. Items there often cost 2x - 3x as much as a higher quality board does at other locally owned businesses. You have to do the math to figure it out, because they do pricing by linear foot (??) instead of board foot, so it can be a little deceiving.

Friendly and helpful. Nice variety of wood from domestic to exotic s in various size and thickness. Prices seem to be comparable to most but without the mail order part. Being able to see it makes a huge difference.

I redid the trim in my home with their knotty alder baseboard and window casing. They custom milled it in less than a week and the price was great. Totally recommend. We also got some walnut boards to make a mantle. Just great.

This place is a hidden gem that I recently discovered nestled in my own backyard.I am a hobby woodworker and was in need of a large board foot order (200 BF) of cherry. I am taking on the task of building new cabinets for my home and have never really needed this much rough wood at one time before.I stopped by a few other suppliers in the metro prior to finding Discount Lumber. I felt they were treating me as a nusence to them. I quickly realized that they catered to businesses and didn’t care much for my measly 200 BF order.This was just the opposite with DLO. My wife and I stopped into their office about 10 minutes to closing time. The owner greeted us with a smile and then went on to showing us a tour of his building. At no point did we feel rushed by Dick or his staff. We were able to order the wood we wanted that evening. The order was ready for pickup a few days later just as promised. Also, the prices were great too!!I am completely satisfied with my purchase and will be back in the future for other projects. (After I build the cabinets of course)Thanks Dick!

Discount Lumber Outlet was a great experience for me. I ordered a custom poplar slab for my desk top, and it was delivered with an unpexpected greenish tone. The person I worked with, Tim, was incredibly helpful in getting this resolved for me. He researched how to remove the green tinge, and then solved the problem by putting the slab under UV light for a couple of days. Not only that, but he then sanded, stained, and sealed the slab for me as well! Incredible customer service all around. I will be coming back to Discount Lumber soon, I am sure.

I am basing this review mostly on the service I got. I bought the end cuts by the pound. There many sizes to choose from. I mostly make spoons and kitchen utensils. Cherry, black walnut, maple and hickory is what I got. Andy was very helpful ada treated me right even though I only spent $15 this time. I dont have space for a lot of wood so small pieces helps. I really dont know if there prices on board foot is cheaper than others but knowledge and customer service is worth it.

Great source for unfinished wood trim. Better than box stores. Sent 3 clients in and they get price run around. They were quoted different prices the longer they talked price kept jumping up. At check out it was higher than quoted. Get firm prices

Stopped in to get a couple small hardwood boards for a few projects, and was surprised by the selection and price. They have a bunch of s4s, but also lots of unfinished thicker lumber for cheaper if you have the means to work with that. Ive bought 100s of bd ft at a time elsewhere before, so buying by the linear foot and by the pound takes a second to wrap your head around, but its probably the best deal youre going to get for small quantities. Way better than a big box store, and great prices. Talking to the owner, hes selling mostly millwork cutoffs and surplus that he cant get rid of through normal means and usually has to shred for bedding sawdust. No hardwood dealer or store wants to deal with boards under 6, but 95% of the pieces I need are much shorter than that anyway.
