If you want something unique, come here! The donuts taste good! One problem is they are expensive for donuts. One dozen costs $22! The donuts are very filling as well which is an upside, considering you would need to buy less. Definitely recommend for people despite the costs as these donuts are incredible!
Excellent donuts! A bit on the pricey side, but the potato flour in the dough makes for an incredible tasty donut. Highly recommend!
Coffee was great, the donuts were good. Huge lines but very fast service. 3 stars just because out of all of the donuts I tried, none blew me away. Maybe Im more used to yeast donuts whereas these are potato based. Thanks!
I couldnt see examples of their Donuts anywhere. No indication of which are glazed and which arent. I highly prefer glazed. I got a choc. cinn+sugar and an old fashioned, honestly expecting both to be glazed. Neither were. The old fashioned was basically just fried dough. Not very tasty. The other was choc dough fried too much (honestly tasted a bit burnt/overcooked) with cinnamon and sugar sprinkled over it. Very much not impressed.
It definitely worth waiting. This potato donut is so great. I dont usually eat donuts but their donuts are different. I ordered 8 donuts before I came back to Colorado, and I am still eating those. Really want to have it in Colorado.
Got here around 11am on a Friday and a lot of the flavors were already sold out! I still ordered half a dozen donuts and got the chocolate coconut, Maine apple cider, chocolate sea salt, and toasted coconut. The donuts are pretty large and I really liked the Maine Apple cider donut. It had bits of apples in it too!
A Holy Donut pit stop is a must when traveling to Maine. This was my second time at the Scarborough location post pandemic. This crew runs a well oiled machine! The drive through line moves quickly, the online ordering system is flawless and the customer service is always top notch. Rating with the coveted thumbs up scale 1-5 👍🏽.(Pictured top-bottom)Chocolate Caramel Coconut (5👍🏽)Cinnamon Sugar (5👍🏽)Maple Bacon (5👍🏽)Sweet Potato Ginger Glazed (5👍🏽)Blueberry Glazed (3👍🏽)(Not pictured - cold brew (5 👍🏽), chai latte (3👍🏽) and GF Cinnamon sugar (1👍🏽) - not gonna lie it wasn’t the best IMO, I think it’s a GF thing not a HD thing)
As always the donuts were out of this world. We had the sweet potato ginger for a fun flavor and the original and cinnamon/sugar to dip in our coffee. This trip the thing of real note was the staff. Despite is only being 8am and swamped with people, each staff member we interacted with was super helpful, efficient, and friendly. Thank you so much, keep up the good work!!
A worthy stop when in the area. The donuts are large and filling yet they were not our favorite. Some of the flavors definitely emerged while some of the others were a little more subtle. We were slightly disappointed that our order was not properly filled as one flavor was missing. Nonetheless we are glad we stopped to try something more unique to the region. A half dozen was a little on the pricier side yet it is important to take into account the size of them.
Everywhere I went in Maine I kept hearing about Holy Donut and their famous potato donuts. Well, I was not disappointed. Their stuff was great! I particularly enjoyed the sweet potato coffee cake donut. It was spectacular. But everything we had was on point. And they have a ton of stuff to choose from. Their cold brew coffee was also some of the best Ive had. Just a great place all around.
Had heard about Holy Donuts from Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. We were on an RV trip thru New England and had to come by. The first location on Park Ave was sold out so we called to this location and they had some. In a small RV and the only available ordering was thru the drive in and the RV would not fit. Knocked on the door and gentleman was VERY helpful. We got a half dozen assorted and they were amazing. Thank you so much. Holy Donuts is very much worth the trip
Its always a treat to go to Holy Donut! Its one of those places that everyone knows about. The line was long but it didnt take too long to get through the drive-thru and everything was in stock so it was a good day actually make it a yummy day.
This is a must stop. Donuts are so different and delicious. They offer a variety of flavors and most if not all are delicious! The lines get really long. Wish this location wasnt drive thru only though.
First things first, people know about this place. There are 3 locations, and the 2 that we attempted to go to both had long lines. That speaks to what they offer alone. Ended up ordering online and doing pick up (limited per locations, but much faster). They have a unique variety, but all aligned well to their flavors and were absolutely worth the effort and time of getting a doughnut.
OMG soooo delicious. I have to stop every time I am in Maine. I love all the flavors . . especially the Chocolate Toasted Coconut :) YUM YUM !!
My wife got me donuts for fathers day breakfast. good thing she went early, the line gets long fast. We sampled several. All were so delicious! Maple bacon, lemon blueberry, chocolate see salt, cinnamon. I think everyones favorite was the toasted coconut though!
They always seem to be out of the ones you want. They need to stop making so many of the ones nobody wants, and make more of the popular flavors. We ended up buying flavors we didnt really want just because we were already there. That makes me feel like I dont really want to go back, just to be disappointed again. The quality deserves more than three stars, but the rating is for the disappointment. (Also, theyre still not allowing people in the store because theyre still panicky about COVID.)
Very unique donuts, and a donut experience you will not forget. Get the donuts in the morning, earlier is better, before 10am. This location is better than the one in the city.
My family and I just moved to the South Portland are and decided after weeks of unpacking and settling in to take a little break and do some exploring for snacks. We had heard about The Holy Donut and decided to visit their scarborough location. We got there shortly after 9 am and the drive thru already had a line out into the street, but it moved fairly quickly. We got berry berry, pomegranate, lemon, toasted coconut, and maple bacon donuts to go, along with a hot cup of coffee. Everything was delicious. The texture of the donuts was extremely satisfying, and the flavor (inside and out) left us wishing we had bought more. We will definitely be introducing our friends and family to this place!!
We came to the Holy Donut and have been pleased to try their many flavors and experience the friendliness of the staff. They will greet you with a warm smile and happy faces. One great plus to coming here is that they get the public involved in social media and put the choice in the public’s hands on new flavors for the coming seasons.I personally was not a fan of some of the flavors however with the professionalism of the staff and the cleanliness of the establishment I recommend coming to see if your taste buds approve.
Despite all the photos on this Google listing of interior seating, its been drive-thru only for several months now (still as of Sept 21) but according to them not because of Covid, just because they use all the space for production only. That doesnt stop demand however as the car line wraps around the building and extends out onto Lincoln Ave with as many as 30+ cars backed up all the way to Route 1 (and this was a Monday). Entertaining to sit in the parking lot and see peoples disappointment as they realize its not a traffic jam, its the friggin donut line. So dont come here expecting to just grab some donuts... youre going to have to pay your dues. Probably better to place order online and pick up. This place has exploded in popularity, and the donuts are great, but not really worth all the hassle.
Awesome donuts and an all around great company. They use a unique dough made with potatoes that gives the donuts a dense and hearty quality I havent found anywhere else. Holy Donut has several locations in the Portland area and the donuts are consistently fantastic at all of them, but the Rt. 1 location is the newest, nicest, and most spacious (also features a drive through). Chocolate sea salt is the go-to choice but they have a bunch of other flavors that are all great.
Donuts were ok. Coffee was good. Only the drive through is open right now, would have rather gone inside. Overall not bad.
Not a fan, sorry to say. Drove 45 min to try. Heavy, lacked flavor and were oily. Ordering system was very flawed. From order to pickup, two of the ones we ordered and paid for, were sold out. Stick with Congdons...
While sitting in line in Scarborough two staff came the side door with a tray and bags. As we all drove by them they apologized for running out of Holy Doughnuts. They advertise they are open til 2 or when they run out. But they do not leave you empty handed. Each bag had two FREE doughnuts. Thats what I call customer service. Thank you Holy Doughnut
Long line, but moved quickly. Tasty, unique flavors. Totally worth it.
Great donuts but always a long line. Come early and be prepared to wait, they usually sell out by 1pm or 2pm if not sooner.
Its not a trip to southern Maine without a stop for a Holy Donut. So excited the summer flavors are coming back out. The margarita donut was perfect and not too sweet!
Great donuts! Try the maple bacon for sure. The cheddar bacon was our favorite. Not great coffee.
Went their but can’t still go inside just to wait in a 20 minute line but end up with the wrong order like if your not going to let people in the least you could do is get the orders correctly. Real big fan of the food just cant stand the fact that they are constantly getting things wrong especially with the steep donut price.
The Holy Donut is an amazing breakfast place off of route 1 in Scarborough. Everything they make and sell is on display there and I suspect that it’s ALL amazing. I say that because I should have listened to the man behind the counter when he told me that they were very filling. I just barely ate one.I ordered the maple-glazed bacon donut. Why? Because...’Murica. It’s as amazing as it sounds. The sweetness of the maple icing does an amazing counter-balance to the salinity that is bacon. There’s just no words to describe how amazing this concept and product is. I also ordered the fresh-squeezed orange juice, which was amazing as well. This place is probably a little pricey (for $23, including tip I got 4 donuts, an iced coffee, and an orange juice). But the food is organic, delicious, and a staple of Maine cuisine as far as I’m concerned.
REPULSIVE. Clearly these good reviews have never had any other donut, ever. Spent $20 on 6 overfried, yet raw, dense bombs just to throw them away. Even the dog wouldn’t eat them. Worst donut I have ever had.
Holy Donut was simply incredible! Me and my girlfriend were visitng nearby at old orchard beach when we stumbled upon this place. With absoluley zero expectations we decided to stop in. The donuts blew us away with how good they were. And to top it all off, the staff was super friendly and attentive. A must try place for sure!
Driven by many times so I decided to give it a try being a donut lover. I’ll start with 10 dollars for a coffee and two donuts is outrageous. Coffee was like dirt and potato donuts were a huge let down. Awful
Great service! Great donuts and great coffee!💗
Friendly service, delicious donuts. Honestly, my favorite was the old fashioned and their hashbrowns.
8am this morning and the line of cars for the drive thru is backed up to the high way!I counted 25 cars waiting in line as I turned around because its DRIVE THRU ONLY.
Loved the donut! Coffee was too small.
Delicious! Worth the drive! Very thick and filling donuts. The location we went to in Scarborough is drive thru only - made it a little difficult for a first timer and not knowing what they have on the shelves. We went around lunch time and some flavors were sold out so I recommend going earlier in the morning. The drive thru teller gave us some recommendations on what to try - cannoli donut was delicious!
Kinda disappointing, they ran out of all the interesting flavors. Good donuts and very filling but not really worth the price
They messed up our pickup order twice in one visit, but they were really busy & staffing is probably tight. Polite about correcting our order
The Holy Donut is awesome, with many tasty donut flavors and even vegan choices! The staff is very polite, and I look forward to going back again!
Best plain/old fashioned donut youll ever eat. Ice coffee is made with coffee ice cubes so it doesnt water down! Service is top rate and staff is paid above industry standards. Covid precautions are tight. Its more expensive than most, but worth every penny.
Great- omg so many different flavors and vegan gluten free options!
We all have our favorites. Mine is the maple bacon, my daughter loved the Cinnamon donut. She said it tasted like a churro. My husband enjoyed the dark chocolate coconut and my son like the triple berry cannoli. All in all, the holy donut is probably the only business that the whole family asked...do the franchise? We should bring this to Massachusetts.
Ive always heard how incredible the Holy Donut was and how they were the best donuts around. We finally got to stop in and give it a try. While the donuts were good they certainly werent the best Ive ever had. And the pricing is insane. The donuts were really cold and dry. I wont be going back. Id rather go up to The Cookie Jar for their amazing chocolate donuts.
I read potatoes in the ingredients, and I thought Id have one for a laugh, and was I ever wrong! I went here three times on my family vacation. Blueberry maple bacon, chocolate sea-salt, vanilla glaze, et etc...Do yourself a frickin favor, man. Hashtag GOAT.
Huge, delicious donuts with unique flavors, we stop here every time we are on our way to Portland.
Delicious donuts and coffee! Very friendly service too!
We missed the Maine hash browns this morning, but the donuts made up for it. The chocolate peppermint donuts were awesome, and the texture of the toasted coconut chocolate covered donut was amazing. The drive-through personnel were friendly and fast!
Great donuts. Fleshly baked with plenty of choices
Oh my goodness these Donuts had such a good texture and wonderful flavor. The choices of flavor were extensive I particularly like the maple bacon and the sweet potato glazed. Could not get enough of that. Im sorry my picture below shows a decimated box of donuts but thats what happens when the donuts are so good. What sets these Donuts apart from other donuts and donut shops is that they contain a small amount of potato this helps immensely with the texture. They also offer a cannoli filled donut I did not get any of those shame on me. Would travel to Portland again for these Donuts.
Wasn’t expecting what we received. The doughnuts were huge! For the most part they tasted pretty good. They weren’t too sweet and had good flavor.Very nice that they have gluten-free options and that the GF flour they use does NOT contain almonds or almond flour. Unfortunately, the GF flour contains garbanzo bean flour which is not my favorite. In my view, there are much better gluten-free flours out there.
Absolutely lives up to the hype. Tried so many of the vegan flavors and not one disappointed. My boyfriend and I joke about driving here from NJ for some delicious donuts.
I don’t even like donuts but these were great. Vegan donuts!!
I never heard of potato doughnuts until moving to the Northeast. These are great for those that need vegan or gluten free options as well! Customer service is great and the donuts are very dense and tasty!
My wife has literally almost had us drive 3.5 hours just for 1 donut. Im no donut person, but it says a lot that I have actually considered it. These donuts are amazing! They are moist and delicious. The flavors are plentiful and unique. Dont even get me started on the coffee... it is out of this world. Plus, they use ice cubs made out of coffee as to not dilute it. All in all, they deserve more than a quick visit and 5 stars. What are you waiting for? Go get some donuts!
It was really good! Plan to wait in line but they are very efficient and the line moves fast. So dont be discouraged to see a long line, it was well worth the wait. My daughter liked watching them dip the doughnuts into icing and then the toasted coconut. We got a variety to try. We plan on going again if we are in the neighborhood.
Very busy, but great donuts and coffee:)
The inside is closed but the drive thru moved right along. Service was polite and good! Donuts are exceptional! If you want the best flavors, get there early!
