Fantastic store. And conveniently located. Only 10 minutes from downtown Portland, hop on 295-S and drop out at the Scarborough Rt. 1 off ramp, and it’s just a mile or so past the exit. A straight shot, You only have to take one left into their parking lot.I make my visits because they are the best place to get Halloumi cheese. The staff is fantastic, they support the community and moral social endeavors, run an exceedingly clean, bright and efficiently set up establishment, and bring the boutique feel you would want from a specialty store. Such an incredible selection, and they have an excellent array of “accouterments” to compliment your cheese selection. If you’re entertaining guests, planning a dinner you need to step up a notch, or just want to treat yourself, you definitely need to make the short drive from Portland to view their product.

Wonderful. Very high quality and assortment of products from Italy. Fabulous assortment of carefully selected wines and specialty chocolates. There deli counter and freshly-made sandwiches are top notch. The owners are so welcoming.

However, the controversial political statement on the front door should be a showstopper for any knowledgeable customers, as it was for me and fiancée. While the words are unassailable as stated, as a movement its foundation disintegrates when questioned by facts – available with easy research. The movement harms those it professes to help. The movement harms the brave men and women -- minorities many -- who daily risk their lives keeping society civilized and safe. The movement harms inner city businesses, many owned by minorities, whose ransacking and destruction are excused. Remove the statement and we will gladly shop there. Otherwise, there are plenty of equally elegant competitors. Please stick to something you know something about – like wine and cheese.

The cheese iron is one of our local favorites. The staff is super friendly and always helpful. Their selection of fine charcuterie and cheeses are always a hit. Worth the stop if you are a foodie like my family is.

Ordered on the phone, I have been there in the past and loved it. I guess I should have asked prices as none are listed on the website. Their Meatloaf is 40$, I dont think I have ever paid 40$ for a meatloaf before and it is a small meatloaf too. I would suggest you ask pricing when ordering.

Upscale cheese shop with a wonderful selection. Employees are extremely helpful and take their time to make sure you leave with only the perfect items for you. Samples are sprinkled throughout the store and you can taste anything before you purchase. Along with cheese; there are meats, chocolate, wine and everything your would need to accompany a cheese plate. Look forward to going back. Best place to buy handcrafted cheese, meats, and more. The staff that works there are truly helpful, unfortunately due to covid you cant have simple anything like we could before. Stop and grab a little taste of things handcrafted here in Maine and around the world.

The best in every way!

For me, going here means that Im on my way to the beach, so its a very happy place. We get a couple sandwiches, maybe a cookie or two, and its picnic heaven. I appreciate that they have cheese samples and lots of wine, some nice prepared salads and gourmet items. The crew is very friendly and knowledgeable. There are a couple outdoor tables if youre too hungry to wait for the beach. But, if youre on your way to the beach, this is a great option for seriously good eating. Especially the burrata sandwich special, some sort of magic with balsamic and prosciutto, olive oil and capers.

This place is wonderful. They have a fantastic of selection of classic and hard to find cheeses. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable which made is easy to find new and interesting pairings for the charcuterie board I was making. Will definitely be going here again!

This is a fantastic little shop. I had a delicious turkey sandwich when I visited. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. There is a small seating area that is a good place to go for a lunch break. Aside from the prepared food they have an incredible selection of different cheeses and snacks. They also have some meats and a wine section. I will definitely be visiting again. I would recommend the Cheese Iron to anyone in the area.

Best gourmet food shop in New England. Outstanding sandwiches, cheeses and specialty foods. Staff is super knowledgeable and friendly. Owners are wonderful people. Oftentimes, my wife and I are too exhausted to cook, so well swing into the Cheese Iron to grab a fully cooked roast chicken, brisket or some other beautifully prepared meals that we can take home and enjoy. No muss, no fuss.

Disneyland for adults! There is nothing to compare it to in terms of selection of high quality cheese and charcuterie. Beautiful accoutrements and wine are also plentiful. I absolutely adore this place and know that you will, too. Also, the service is exceptional.

My first visit today and it will now be my first visit for all my cheeses, wine, deli meats and candy! Although we didnt get one, we watched them make deli sandwiches for others and all I can say is Wow! Go here! You will not be disappointed.

Dont be fooled by its size; the Cheese Iron has some of the highest quality deli selections in the county. I live half and hour away, and I still wont go anywhere else for my prosciutto and raclette. They even have an assortment of prepared sandwiches, croissants, and other goodies. If you need top shelf deli ingredients, this is the place to go.

I have driven by a hundred times but never stopped in. I went in expecting cheese but discovered so much more. Theres a nice little wine selection, baked goods, pasta, and other specialty items. They also some pretty delicious looking sandwiches ready to go (too bad I already ate lunch). I look forward to returning and trying some more items.

A southern Maine gem! Unbelievable quality and selection in cheeses and other fine Foods. Try the Jasper Hill Cheddar, aged gouda, or triple cream brie. Try the sandwiches and take home items like Bourata, baguettes, and panini. All fantastic.

Lets face it; you can have lunch anywhere. So, what makes a person stop at The Cheese Iron? Somewhere between my nose going numb (from the overwhelming olfactory orgy) and my jaw hitting the floor, I discovered the best lunch in Scarborough. The Mortadella is the best sandwich that I have ever had. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly and the wine selection is unique. If you go once, youll never go back to the ol McKing Chime again.
