None of the staff were wearing masks and were loud, rude and unprofessional. Dr. Castro was wearing a mask, was lovely and it’s a shame he has such a ridiculous staff. I don’t think we’ll be back there anytime soon.

I scheduled an appointment in the morning and they had an opening late afternoon same day. It was very seamless and arrived 5 minutes before and got checked in quickly. The online forms were good to do before I got there. The nurse/tech was very kind and skilled and got me through the routine tests before sending in the doctor. Dr Castro was very kind, knowledgeable and cared about my concerns. After, there were three ladies who helped me tremendously find a good fit and look for glasses since it was my first time. Overall, very friendly, knowledgeable staff who kept a good pace while also ensuring I felt taken care of. Totally recommend!

Let me tell you, the staff at this establishment is amazing! Of course, everywhere else was booked and my son and I needed glasses and they were able to get us in today. The staff and doctor were super friendly and attentive to my weird glaucoma phobia lol. The up to date technology and care provided left extremely relieved and good on the pockets! I will definitely be coming back and telling everyone!

I have never been to an optometrist office as caring and welcoming as Texas State Optical! Today was my second time needing to be seen. I had an eye injury and from making the appointment and all the way to checking out EVERYONE was kind and the empathy is phenomenal! Dr. Castro is compassionate, kind and willing to answer any questions. The girls are all sweet and amazing. From the very visit back in October I was very pleased. Thank you all for being so kind and just outstanding. You have made me a lifetime patient. Y’all truly are the best A++++

My first visit with TSO. Everyone was quite personable and friendly. Very modern equipment and I loved the fact that my eyes werent dilated. It was done by machine. On the whole, except for the price of my glasses, all went well.

Excellent. My kids, 9, 7, and 1 have all gotten great service here on several occasions. I recommend it to anyone. They were very patient with sensory issues and extremely helpful.

My appointment was almost 2 hours long and I didnt see anyone else getting services. Also, they quoted me one price before services and tried to add an additional fee at checkout, without consulting with me about it, No transparency at all with their prices, But that’s not the end of it, My sister had warned me about Valerie, I figured it was just a bad experience, Valerie had been very adamant about charging her a cancellation fee even though it hadn’t been 24 hours since She had made the appointment. Horrible customer service. Valerie argued her point for about 15 minutes. She agreed to get the eye exam with her copay of 10 dollars just to not pay the 50 for cancellation. After more time arguing each other’s points Valerie waived the fee, but to let it go to such lengths when your business is leaning on the backs of your customers, and you make them jump through hoops just to satisfy your ego, it’s unacceptable, the management is terrible, I will not be returning and I would strongly advice anyone reading this, to take your business elsewhere.

While Valerie, the office manager, did her best, I am not a happy customer at the moment. Over two weeks ago, my husband and I had appointments with Dr. Castro. He was very thorough and we both got new prescriptions. The staff was very helpful with finding us frames we liked. We were told it would be 7-10 days for our new glasses to come in. I checked in the middle of this week (about 10 days later) and our lenses had come in, but there were problems with both of our lenses (one of my husband’s wasn’t transition). Valerie told the lab they needed to resend the right lenses immediately as we wanted our glasses by the end of the week since we were leaving town for a few weeks and wanted our glasses before we left. I checked again on Friday, and my lenses had come in, but not my husband’s. Valerie said she had told the lab that they needed to send them for Saturday delivery. We went today (Saturday) to check on them. They had mine ready, but the lab did not send them for the Saturday delivery (because it was expensive) and they will not be delivered until Monday - after we leave town. While I appreciate everything Valero did to try and fix the problem, someone needs to be held responsible for such poor customer service. If it’s going to be such a problem to get new glasses at TSO I will go elsewhere in the future. Over two weeks is unacceptable!

Thank you Dr. Castro and his assistant for working me in and revising my prescription for new glasses. They didn’t give up until I was satisfied with clarifying my prescription. The man at Costco was impressed with the manner in which Dr. Castro was so willing to work with me . He said not all doctors would do this in his experience.

This place was so fantastic...from the staff to the time it took to get checked in and get seen was amazing! The staff were so kind and friendly and already had all my information out in and insurance verified and payment options all laid out for me! The optometrist took his time to show me pictures of my eyes and explain everything to me so clearly! I would recommend them to my friends and family! They have now become my go to place from now on!

Dr. Castro is a really good doctor. That’s the reason for the four stars. The retail side could be better. There is a small selection of glasses and the retail staff do NOT really know what they are doing. They have very little explanation for the different kinds of lens and add on features they offer.

Everyone is very friendly and put you at ease. Very thorough with their exam and take their time to answer any questions or concerns you may have. Would highly recommend them.

All the staff were great from the time I arrived until I checked out. The doctor really took his time to make sure my contact lenses fit my eyes. 10/10

From start to finish my visit was absolutely five stars. The person who spoke with me on the phone, the person who checked me in, Nancy (the eye technician), the doctor, and Monica (the glasses expert) were all professional and personable. I was well taken care of the entire time. My eyes are not the average exam either. I have had serious retina issues which this staff had discovered and immediately directed me to a higher level of care. The specific visit was exceptional just as the previous. I cannot thank TSO nor recommend them enough.

TSO provided the best and quickest service Ive ever had for eyeglasses. Next to HEB Plus, it is also convenient. I already had a prescription and was going to use my current frames. Most places either want to charge extra for using your frames or wont do it. I was pleasantly surprised at how economical it was. 10-15 minutes I was in and out. I was the only customer, but as I walked out a family walked it. I must admit my timing was perfect. This will be my go to place in the future.

Dr. Micheal Castro was sweet too, he answered all my questions and also listened to me with my concerns about my vision. My daughter had her exam too and was treated with the same kindness and patience. Even when it came time to picking out glasses, I didn’t feel pressured at all to purchase from there. TSO Schertz was absolutely amazing! I was able to get an appointment quickly for my 8 year old son who broke his glasses. From the time we walked in everyone was welcoming and extremely professional. They were able to do a temporary fix for his glasses until his news ones come in which was an added plus!!! Definitely recommend this team to anyone needing optical care!

I initially made an appointment at TSO because I read all the good reviews.That was not the case at all for me when I arrived.To keep it simple all I can say is that, they are not transparent with their prices.They will add optional services without even asking.For example my copay was 10 dollars and they automatically added 35 for a photo type exam on my eyes. NEVER AGAIN!!Sure everyone is “nice” but that is not the only qualification for a good business.First, I never write reviews online but this place makes me want to.I made appointments for myself and 2 kids because our normal eye doctor was backed up 6 weeks due to covid. When I arrived and was completing the paperwork with the front staff, I was told it would be between $99-$299 for Each of us to have a contact fitting. I asked for them to be more specific because I can’t sign paperwork committing myself to $900. They couldn’t say....or wouldn’t. I questioned them because the other place I have gone to locally the last 3 years was only a $60 copay under my insurance for a contact fitting. Of course they couldn’t speak to that.I was not happy and thought about leaving but that would be a “cancellation” and would be charged $50 each. The nerve of these people. I agreed to have only the glasses exams done. While in with the doctor they advised it was $99 for the contact fitting so we proceeded with them. Now over a month later, 8 calls and 2 visits, I can not get the prescription to order my daughters contacts. Every time I call it’s a different excuse why it’s not available. I was told everything was finalized this last Friday and I would be sent an email to access the prescription through their portal but it’s not there. I am STILL trying to get the prescription I PAID FOR!!Don’t use this business. There are way too many options in the local area. I made a huge mistake and Can Not wait to conclude my business with them.

My son went for the visual/test nurological test. When we got.there we were greeted with friendly faces. Our Dr (Sandra) was amazing!!!! She was so incredibly friendly and helpful! Extremely patient. My son has adhd and tends to get very hyper. I got to sit in the room while she did an extensive test on him. She explained everything and offered a lot of very useful options to explore for vision therapy. My son was very happy to go there and with their fantastic customer service I will continue to drive 45 minutes to get there because I really wouldnt want to go anywhere else!!!

I went to this location for my exam last year, loved the experience with Dr. Nielsen. Decided to take my son for contact lenses this year... Fee for fitting not explained to me - its been a week and now that we are due to report back, they want to now spring the fee on us. During the fitting, staff really did not take the proper time to show my son how to put in or take out the lenses.... after expressing my concern, the doctor did take a little more time with him, but I could tell that my asking questions about the process, procedures, etc was annoying staff. I do not wear glasses or contacts so this is a new process for my son and I -- we did not feel satisfied upon leaving the office that day. I would recommend if you do visit this place that you ask for all information and charges upfront so you do not get any surprises. Also, go with your first gut feeling. If they are not providing the customer service that you expect, then run for the door. By the way, Dr. Nielsen was not there during any of my visits this year. Dr. Williams handled our services..... First mistake! I will definitely follow my gut from now on.

I will never return to TSO Schertz for eyeglasses. They are overpriced and the lenses are of poor quality. I had my glasses for two months and the film from my lenses are peeling off. I went back and of course what the say, no it is not the film peeling off. The person that I spoke said that my glasses were still under warranty but I needed to pay a fee to use the warranty. Really? So paying approximately $500 just for my lenses was not enough, now I have to pay to replace defective lenses. That was icing on the cake. Not to mention, I believe that I paid full price for my glasses even using my insurance. While I was there trying to resolve the issue with my glasses, another staff member was on the phone with a customer complaining about an overcharge. So dissatisfied, glasses that I cannot use.

Valerie, Is super nice and friendly. The Teresa the technician is the one I always ask for and she and their staff get to know you as a family which make the service nicer. Dr Nielsen has been our eye doctor for many years and they are a great place to visit.

The office was clean and very professional. We didnt wait and there was no problem making an appointment on the weekend even -ad a busy single mother this was clutch.

This was a great visit from the moment I walked in the door. The staff greeted me with a smile and check-in was a snap since I filled out the new patient forms online in advance. I was only in the waiting room a few minutes before they took me back for tests. Once they finished I was taken to the exam room. Dr. Drake did my exam and it was one of the most comprehensive I have had in years. She took the time to understand my background and the impact of my Lasik a few years ago. I am so thankful that I was not rushed out of the office and was able to ask a few questions regarding my vision health. The was the best experience I have had in a doctors office in a long time. 2018:Slow customer service. They said they emailed and fax my prescription. Which to this date the mail or fax never came thru. I had to drive there in person. Waiting more than 10 minutes on the phone with no one following up with me. I called back once they hung up to get someone to talk to me. With that service im not going back.2020:Still continue to have bad service.Im sure you are wondering why I went back. A new Dr. Was available and maybe things changed. Nope! This is not for the entire business. I did get one person to assist us and did a great job. The doctor was amazing, unfortunately one bad apple left a bad taste in my mouth. To clarify, there was internal messages with a discussion about patients. My daughter saw and read these messages. It was unprofessional and they should of covered their messages. I know this happens at all businesses, but businesses dont do it in front of their clients. I was also talked to in an unprofessional tone that shouldnt happen to clients. Im not sure if I was talked to like that because of how I look. [Tattoos, beard, underrepresented] . I didnt get that attitude from others.It was just not a great experience and I wouldnt want others to experience the same.

This buisness is a hidden gem in the eyecare industry. Great staff and great selection of eyewear. They treated me great and made me feel at ease. Examination process was smooth and easy. They took the time to be very thorough to ensure I got the right treatment recommendation. No one was pushy or trying to upsale me on things. They just educated me. I chose upgrades on my lenses because I want my eyes to have the best. TSO is my new go to place for eyecare and eyewear.

The front office staff have no idea what they are doing. My past three visits were terrible. They could never get my insurance right and in the middle of my exam they had to stop the exam and tell me insurance wasn’t going to cover after they had me sign the statement that it would only be $15. On my second visit they gave me an expired coupon for money off contacts, a year expired coupon! On another visit the front office staff didn’t send my prescription to me, after trying to get ahold of them for a couple days they finally answered and said “oh I forgot I didn’t send that” Of course they always apologize and try to “make it right” but I’m over how many times I have had issues. They just want your money they don’t care about your eye health, the eye doctor told me I had a few things wrong with me and told me how much I need to start saving up for. Complete BS.I found a reliable eye doctor in New Braunfels who did a complete scan and found nothing wrong! Healthy eyes and went over the test in detail to reassure me. The front office staff at my new eye doctor is fantastic, made me feel at home and had NO ISSUE with my insurance.

This is the best Optometrist office visit that I have ever had. Dr. Williamson is incredibly knowledgeable and her explanation regarding my exam results were clearly explained. The staff was very welcoming from the time I approached the front door through the entire end of the visit. Greeted by the fantastic smile and quick check-in from Andrea, followed by Monicas screening, whos cheerfully-bright personality is the perfect fit, and finished by Andrea generating and Shandi delivering my doctor’s note for work. I look forward to my next visit and will definitely refer friends and family to this practice.

Overall experience was amazing! Everyone was incredibly friendly and there was such a care for every single patient that I witnessed walk through their door. Big shout out to Joselina, she was incredible with helping me find the right frames for me and breaking down my questions about my insurance. Meanwhile helping me find new glasses I love, she was incredibly personable and an easy person to talk to. I would honestly come back just to say hello to her! Last Year 5 stars. This year not so much. New Doctor who told me I had adv cornea damage from dry eyes with blurry vision. I disagreed. The doctor consistently told me what I was experiencing visually which was not accurate. Something seemed wrong. Got a 2nd opinion from another place with extensive testing which confirmed no cornea damage and only mild dry eye. I don’t need the adv treatment that was recommended. The staff though are nice there.
