This was beyond a bad experience. I grew up coming to this place with my great grandma, and her memory is the reason I went tonight. The evening began with us listening to our waitress tell the guests next to us that they didnt have 2 of the items that they had ordered well after they ordered them. Our initial order was also not on the menu. The food was bland tonight, but the biggest shocker was the cold mashed potatoes. Out waitress then had to leave, mid meal, and gave us our check before dessert. She told us that there would be a different person to check on us, but we had to flag the manager down after waiting for 15 minutes or so. The dessert we wanted also ran out, and we were forced to choose a different option again. This is by far the worst experience Ive had here, and I strongly doubt Ill be returning. This saddens me, as like I said before, Ive been going to this restaurant my entire life.
Had a quick meal with my family before my flight back to FL. Im originally from NJ. got a pork roll egg n cheese on a bagel and shared fries with my brother. Brother got breakfast and my mom got the western omelette. Food was good, came out fast. Perfect!
My colleagues and I came here for lunch, and I must say that this diner went above and beyond my expectations!Maryann our waitress was the epitome of hospitality. She took exceptional care of us in every way.I ordered the lunch special Panini and Soup with a side of French fries, and a desert of Strawberry Ice cream.The soup was a delicious Lobster Bisque cooked to perfection. I had to withhold myself from finishing the soup at the risk of wasting my main course.The main course arrived shortly afterwards and oh my, what a beauty! The French fries were golden and crispy, and the Panini was ever so delicious 😋! I must say, after 10 years of living across Europe, Asia and Africa, this was the best restaurants meal Ive had since my return to the US. It felt as though we were in a 5-Star restaurant!I most certainly recommend this diner to anyone who visits Scotch Plains, New Jersey .
The shrimp Parmesan is absolutely amazing as well as the garden salad with French dressing. I usually stick to whats good, but on my last visit I decided to try the fish and chips and couldnt eat it.The fried cod was not good. The fries and onion rings were great so I got full off of that and left the fish on the plate. My husband loves the chicken & shrimp Parmesan. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is very clean.
We always love their matzah ball soup this time of year!! Ordered 2 quarts to go and got great service!!
Food was very good I had a dinner special broiled scrod. The amount of food was very generous. They served me soup salad some warm bread a piece of fish with baked potato, broccoli, cauliflower and side of string beans, plus a dessert all for less than $20. Good attentive service without being annoying. If youre in the area and hungry you should definitely stop by

We came across this diner on our way back from pa. It filled and exceeded my expectations. The waitress was amazing, always checking in on us. In addition, the food was on par or even better with my diner experiences. As a New Yorker, I grew up going to diners and will definitely be back when I travel this way again.
Decent pit stop on our way back to NYC...service was great! Food was satisfactory for a diner. Slightly better than the one we had in Allentown.

Came here for breakfast and it was as good as expected. We have been coming here for years and have no complaints. The Scotchwood is a standard NJ diner with a enough space that there isn’t to much of a wait. The staff is very friendly and the food never disappoints. From the standard breakfast special to pancakes and egg sandwiches, lunch & dinner you’ll find something to enjoy!
Got a tuna melt and it was the greasiest thing i ever ate... Even the fries were forgettable, had no choice but to go here since it was the only diner open in the area....

Food is ok. Juke box at each table is cool, but they have Fox new blasting on all the large screen tvs everywhere at full volume so unless you want to listen to Fox news at mega volume through your meal its less than ideal for a relaxing brunch
The food was okay. Tried the onion rings. They werent cooked all the way. We had to keep asking for refills for our drinks. A man and lady staring arguing and pushing each other inside. The mgr didnt do anything.
Ive been dining here for years.The portion sizes will leave you satisfied.The prices are reasonable.The food is good.Just avoid the (seafood), other then that this place has good burgers and Italian food good wraps alot of variety on the menu.
We ordered breakfast from the diner and it was very yummy! My home fries were delicious and the breakfast sandwiches were large and filling! My son had the chocolate chip pancakes and he said they were one of the best! If we are ever back up this way we will definitely go back!
Best cheesesteaks in the area.. order with peppers and onions and you cant go wrong. My wife loves the cream of turkey soup, but they only have it on Sundays.. so when we remember to go...
Went there for breakfast. The options were limited so the normal overwhelming feeling someone would get at a dinner is gone. The wait staff are nice and the food was reasonable. The place itself is dated, but other than that it was ok.
So my fiance and I went this morning and were totally ignored after being seated. After we sat and watched the staff run back and forth laughing and joking with each for 20 minutes(which was weird because we sat right next to the entrance.) Then someone else came in, was seated and served immediately. We were very disappointed 😞 and even after we got up to leave, we were still unacknowledged. 😢
The food couldnt have been better. Its my treat to go there when Im in town. Friendly and fast service. I give my highest recomedation.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Place is gross, customer service is horrible, and the food is nasty. I got a chicken pesto panini and they forgot the pesto, and it was on soggy pita bread. My dad ordered a burger and the cheese was textured like plastic. Waitress was complaining that another tables full party didnt arrive, and was saying at 11:00 pm that they needed to order by 11:20, when the place closes at 12 am. The entire time I was seated, there were dirty tables all around me with no one cleaning them. Owner doesnt seem to care about his business. You can tell that they cheap out on the quality of their food.
Our waitress was awesome. I was having a nice little daddy and daughters brunch. It everyone was respectful our time and the food was great. No complaints.

Not our best dining experience... Typical diner experience... but food has much to be desired... One person order a Reuben platter which was good... Someone else ordered roast beef au jus.. but the meat didnt have a good taste. I ordered Broiled Seafood and the selection was good... but the seasoning / flavor was not.. $22 for a meal that was not worth it. Side salad was good, but side of vegetables were not good at all. Off of our list!

Years ago the Scotchwood had some of the best food in the area. The same is not true today. Coffee is stale and food is simply okay and nothing more. Wish I had more of a reason to make the relatively short trip but the food and service simply isnt worth passing other similar offerings on route 22.
Kids love their pancakes, still think mine is better, but they are not bad. Kids love it. I am just a really good cook and my pancakes are 🔥 📛 👨🚒
The meal I ordered was good, but my husband, mother and uncle didnt like their food and I ordered my husband bread pudding, but when it came it didnt look or taste like bread pudding.
Food was excellent! Two orders of the duck special which looked and tasted great. Got two sides and salad and soup tooGot cake desserts with them but seemed a little dry.
Fabulous staff! Great to be greeted by Nick! Superior coffee and a chili dog that should be on everyones list! Im not from this area however this place should be on everyones list!!
My family and I decided to make a pit stop at the Scotchwood Diner on our way home from a trip, and I was blown away by how fresh the food was. Between the service, the cleanliness, and the dinner we ordered, this place blew any other diner Ive ever been to, COMPLETELY out of the water. So happy we found this place! I recommend everyone and anyone to go and try this place atleast once. You wont be disappointed! :)

Meanwhile she held a whole conversation with the table beside us. I don’t know If it’s because we were brown or her social battery ran out but don’t go here. The service was bad as well as the food

Such a shame ! My husband took me here for mothers day it was the only place that wasnt 3 hours wait now i know why the gentleman at the host desk seated me and my two children my husband was parking the car i needed a high chair for my one son they set it up the bus boy came with water I waited up to 30 mins Before I walked out while theyre were like 3 waiters that passed us multiple times I was so upset it legit ruined my mothers day so disapointed !!! And to top it off the hostest as we were leaving they said i hope you enjoyed your meal they diddnt even noti e that no one came to us !

I would give a negative star if i could we took my wife here tonight for dinner for mothers day and got seated at 650pm and it was me my wife my 6 year old and my 18 month old and the only person to come to the table was the bus boy with one glass of oce water mind you just one there is 4 people at the table . so it was about 730 when we decided to get up and leave since not one person came to the table to even get us drinks. And its not like we were in the back we were rite by the front door and 3 different servers passed us and the host was the only person to greet us at first . and once we walked out since noone cane to the table the host again said thanks for coming still not knowing not one person came to our table . smh absolutely the worst service i have ever seen i would not recommend this place to anyone of my clients or family

Nice old School New Jersey diner any interior is like going back in time. I was seated properly by a friendly host and the waitress arrive quick and was friendly I ordered two eggs sunny-side up with sausages and home fries it was very good.The only bad thing about this place is its on route 22 and if you want to go there during rush hour trying to get out from their parking lot is annoying
Very negative experience. called in an order ahead of time, and when we arrived to pick it up, they did not have one of the dishes. the man talked down to us repeatedly, claimed they called a “vicky” saying they couldn’t make the order (nobody in our group is called vicky or anything close), and said it wasn’t their fault and were incredibly dismissive. they claimed it was just “the restaurant business” and were very impolite.

It was so dirty and smelly that I turned around and walked out without ordering.
Used to be one of our favorite places. Happy that they’re open for 25% capacity we went for dinner last night. My husband got food poisoning from the fried seafood platter he ate. After all this time shutdown you’d think they wouldn’t want to make returning customers sick. Throw out that old food!!!

This diner is a great example of the good ol fashioned diner we have all come to love. It was very clean and organized all the way around. The staff was great and the food was very good. Each booth even has a jukebox to listen to some music. Definitely recommend going to scotchwood if your looking for a great American diner.

The place was jam packed on Sunday afternoon - for good reason. The Taylor-ham egg and cheese on a bun was amazing! And their blintzes were pretty tasty, too - served with a side of warm cherry sauce.
