Love this store. If someone gave me 10K dollars for furniture thats where I would go. Im 70 and live on my social security but when Im looking to add something to my apartment I always head there and mostly shop in the bargain attic and if you look hard youll find great deals which I did today. I always start there first.

A reasonable amount of options that mostly stem from a more contemporary look. Most times are pretty low to the ground so if youre looking for taller furniture this doesnt have a huge selection. The store is clean, but lacks a bit of organization which requires walking through the whole store to see all your options. Dont forget to go upstairs for more furniture. The stairway says there is a discount section upstairs but I didnt appreciate much up there.

SERVICE IS THEIR NAME. Like Kevin I have had only great service after the sale with Modern Design. I had a 10 year old bedroom set that needed a few pieces that had broken over the years. Once they verified that it was one of theirs Modern Design provided and installed the replacement pieces at no charge to me. You get what you pay for and with Modern Design youre getting the best!

One of the best furniture stores in Vermont. If youre going to spend money on furniture, it may as well be beautiful (theres plenty of ugly expensive furniture around, Ive noticed ).

Great selection that you wont find at other locations. Service is great. Only giving them 4 stars because I ordered a couch and they sent the wrong model. They took care of everything at no cost, but when you spend that kind of money and wait close to two months, you would hope everything would be correct. Oh well...the new one is on its way.

We bought a couple of lamps, I heard you when you told me that substitutions on shades were not allowed. When I mentioned at checkout that the lamps would be nicer with the white shades and you told me that asking again wasnt going to change your answer, I felt belittled. You couldve said it in a nicer way.

We always seem to happen in here on their bi-yearly sale, but otherwise the prices are a tad high. The furniture is very good quality and is very stylish, but if you dont like mid-century modern as much as I do, this might not be the place for you.

[Update Oct 13 2018]Thank you for your response to my review. Yes, you kept us aware of the many causes for the delays, but from our perspective as the customer we were hearing just one issue after another. As the weeks of delay dragged on, we became more and more frustrated and each ensuing explanation simply rung hollower than the previous.We signed the sales agreement with you on the first of May, so it was 4 weeks before we even found out the fabric we had requested was on back-order. Had we found out sooner, we would have been happy to select another fabric, possibly reducing the overall delay. As it was, there really werent many satisfactory options for us other than to wait.As for shipping, according to your timeline and when we received the couch, it took nearly 6 weeks to get it from CA to our home. That may not have been under your direct control, but if you consider it from our point of view, we were even more powerless than you. Again, we had no option but to simply wait for updates from you and become even more anxious.Your comment about your sales agreement and third-party delays is exactly why I would not sign such an agreement again, and why I still recommend that anyone who wants to place an order with you (or with any furniture dealer, for that matter) like we did make sure that such a clause is removed or includes some sort of stipulation that costs you more than just feeling responsible. What if the delay had stretched out another week, 2 weeks, 8 weeks, or more, all due to some third-party issue?At some point, we should have been compensated for the delays or should have been able to get our deposit back. At what point would you have returned our deposit to us, or would you have just kept us waiting? The deposit we put on the couch was quite a lot of money for us, and we were honestly becoming quite concerned by mid-August about what to do. We couldnt afford to go somewhere else while doing battle with you over the deposit. As it was, we had no recourse other than to wait.All that said, I want to let you and any readers know that we are quite pleased with the quality of the couch and have no complaints whatsoever on that front. The only problem we have had with it is trying to figure out how to keep our 4 cats and 1 dog off it, since they seem to find it every bit as comfortable as we do.************[Update Sept 7 2018]Im upping the rating from 2 stars to 3. We finally received our couch after 16 weeks of waiting. The delivery guys were really polite and had the couch set up pretty quickly. Were really happy with the quality of the couch so far. I would like to give a higher rating but still feel that we were totally at Modern Designs mercy for a number of weeks. I would suggest that if you purchase something from them, you make sure the sales agreement doesnt include the clause about manufacturer delays or any other outs. Also, make sure there is something in the agreement about getting your money back if they cant deliver within a specific time frame.***********[Original Post]We are in the process of buying a couch from this company. We signed for the couch on the first of May and were told 8-10 weeks for delivery. The price was reasonable and we put half down on it. We are now at 14 weeks and have gotten nothing but the run-around from these people. Their sales agreement states theyre not responsible for manufacturing delays (which I can understand); however, each time we ask where our couch is, we get a different answer. Every reason they give has to do with the manufacturer (conveniently for them). The couch has shipped, it hasnt shipped; its in North Carolina, no its not there yet; the fabric was back-ordered, and so on. I would be happy to change my rating if these people can finally give us a straight, satisfactory answer and we get our couch, but I definitely do not recommend that anyone purchase from this company.

I would NOT recommend this place! I went into the store on a rainy day, of course with boots and a raincoat, and not one of the three workers even acknowledged my presence with a hello or can I help you. After walking around the store a few times, I got the impression that they were whispering and looking down on me because of my attire... hello it was raining!! There were no other customers in the store!! They lost out on a sale that day.

I have always received outstanding service from Modern Design. Very good quality furniture some of mine still looks good after almost 20 yrs. Recently I called to ask for spare parts to fix an arm on a stressless chair I had purchased over 15 yrs prior, Siri invited me to come in with it and said they would fix it for me, not only did they fix the arm,they refurbished many worn parts and made it look new again, this excellent service was offfered free of charge! That is GREAT service, thanks!
