Recently had a table refinished by Christian Dardonville and was very pleased by the result and reasonable price. It was an old table with an existing crack that was in need of refinishing. It practically glows now and we couldn’t be happier. We had also had several dining chairs and a rattan-backed rocking chair repaired a few years ago by Christian - creaky joints and other long neglected maintenance. His work then was also wonderful and he put us in contact with a great upholsterer who worked well with Christian. What I really appreciate about Christian is the care and artistry in his work. Quality of work has been consistently excellent and he has been responsive to emails and calls. Being an owner-operated business and a small shop, I know that his workload may at times cause a longer turnaround, however he will give you an idea of his schedule when you talk. He also is honest in giving an assessment about whether repair is worth the cost. Very pleased and highly recommend this company.

My mother-in-law in Portland has now sent all her dining chairs and three side tables up to Seattle (in the back of our car) just for Christian Dardonville to work on. He has done beautiful work stabilizing the chairs and restoring their metal trim, as well as refinishing the hand-made side tables like new. For such a reasonable price, wouldnt go anywhere else.

Over the past 15 years Christian has restored (and in some cases rebuilt) some treasured family antiques. He repaired the damaged floral inlay on my grandmother’s early 1900s dresser and matching mirror, making new pieces for the design and staining them in different shades to recreate the original pattern. He reshaped a set of 3-legged Italian drum tables that had expanded from dampness, springing the barrels from the rims. He repaired a split Queen Anne table top, and has made countless gouges and scratches in other pieces disappear and look like the original finish. He is not just a fine craftsman, but also an artist -- and simply a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him!

I had Mr. Dardonville work on an oak hutch, foot stool and coat rack that were my my spouses great grandmothers and grandmothers. Having read these reviews, hearing recommendations, from others in the local community, and browsing his web page I expected great work. I was also astounded by the low price he quoted me. All of these things, sadly, turned out to be hugely misleading.First, the communication was nearly non-existent and the time frame for completion (I was quoted three to four weeks . . . he picked up our pieces in early May and we just got them back in mid-July!) was ridiculous. I tried to call, left messages and emails, and rarely got a reply. We waited and waited and tried to follow up but, honestly, were ignored or just kind of passed over in terms of being a client. I get that people are busy, but does it really take that much time to reply to an email or phone message?Second, about half of the repairs we requested were not completed at all. There were old nail holes and gauges that should have been filled that we talked about, the upholstery on the foot rest was never changed as we discussed,, and It seemed that he hurriedly had just, maybe, sanded down some portions and very unevenly restained all three pieces (and that was about two to three shades darker than was discussed . . . I get its never going to be the perfect color that you want and a lot goes into that depending on the condition of the wood, etc). As for the hutch, only two of the three fixes we requested were completed . . . our main concern was that it was somewhat wobbly and we wanted that remedied and assured that it would be . . . which was one of our main goals with this repair and restoration. The stain seemed heavy in places, thin in others, and there were pieces that he totally missed. As for the coat rack, its stain was just like the others--heavy in some places and seemingly thin in others.Last, was his response that really turned me off. When I asked about the hutch being so unstable still, he replied Well, its an old piece, implying that nothing could be done when he said there was in the beginning. His other statement that made this so unenjoyable was, Its a three hundred dollar fix, basically telling us we got what we paid for and what did we expect for paying so little (It would have been 500 total with the 200 deposit we basically had to eat). This was even after I had questioned him when he made his estimate as to why so inexpensive. This was a tremendously disappointing experience all the way around! I was super excited based off of google and yelp reviews, the web page, and other recommendations and, in the end, felt tremendously unimportant, backburnered, and, honestly, taken advantage of. These were important things from our families past that we entrusted to a professional for a professional level fix that simply never happened, and certainly not in a timely fashion. From the second I spotted the unrepaired foot stool when he showed up to drop our order off (45 minutes late from his delivery window I might add), I realized that wed been mislead a great deal. If I had any important pieces of furniture to have repaired and refinished, I would certainly go elsewhere--we had three other pieces we were interested in having him do based off of reviews, recommendations and such, but theres no way wed ever let him touch any of them.
