Took a class with friends at The Bonsai Guy! What a unique and fun time we had! Chris and staff are wonderful! I will be returning with others to introduce them to a great new hobby...or obsession. After trimming and potting a small indoor bonsai I came out of class with a wonderful appreciation for the art of bonsai.
Oh man, where to start... my girlfriend and I went to an event Bonsi Guy and Classic Rock Coffee put on, Date Night. 10/10 would recommend to do with your significant other. (He holds juniper workshops too if you’re single so don’t be shy!)His plants are top notch, and his shameless plugs and references are comical and well placed. Does a great job of making you feel at home and at ease with what you’re doing. I’ve never touched a plant in my life, but at the end was asking Chris to pass over the wire! Now if I could just keep this little guy growing I’ll make Mr. Miyagi proud.Side note, I really appreciated that Chris told us all the little things we needed to know to keep the plant going. Things that may trip up the average Joe. He didn’t try to lecture us on the history of blah, blah, blah like a lot of experts in their field do. He really let our questions guide the class. Well done sir!
Good people good info willing to help even without a purchase! Not pushy for a sale either!!
Do you think you saw a lot of bonsai trees at the Japanese Fall Festival at Nathanael Greene park? That was not a lot of bonsai trees. If you want to see a lot of bonsai trees in springfield, you got to go behold The Bonsai Guys awe inspiring nursery. I was surprised by the sheer variety of species available here. you can get group plantings, you can get maples, hawthorns, succulents, ficus, weeping varieties of evergreen youve never seen before and the list goes on, theres way too many to mention. Chris is a master of his craft which, if youve ever tried to create your own bonsai tree you will know, is not as simple as sticking little trees in neat little pots. The bonsai guy has a complete lineup of supplies including training wires, pruning shears, planters, decorations for your bonsai pot, soil and fertilizer, and also training. I know Im not a successful bonsai growing enthusiast but I havent given up yet and if I could give anybody advice about growing bonsais it would be, after 16 years of killing little trees, learn what youre doing before you try because youre going to fail even if you know what youre doing. I didnt come here to purchase anything today. I showed up to try to help support the business by adding photos and information to Google maps because I love bonsai trees and the philosophy behind cultivating them. After seeing what was here, Im definitely going back to make some purchases and I hope you do too. Its a lot bigger than it looks so dont let the exterior of the front of the building fool you and if youre interested in something like this, its definitely a good local business to support. Thank you for reading my review if you made it this far!
SO MANY OPTIONS. The Bonsai Guy is the best place around for all you Bonsai wants and needs definitely will be returning!
We had an amazing experience with Chris the Bonsai Guy and we will be back again for sure!! The team is very knowledgeable and caring. Care is the entire point of Bonsai and the Bonsai Guy takes that to heart. We are incredibly proud to have this business in Springfield! It’s a rare gem. Thank you for your service. We appreciate you!!
We attended Date Night hosted by The Bonsai Guy of Springfield & Classic Rock Coffee and it was truly one of THE most memorable, relaxing and unique experiences myself & my partner have ever had. Loved learning about this craft and getting to have a hands on lesson. We are looking forward to many more classes in order to soak up all the knowledge Chris has to offer! Spreading the word of this zen little spot to all ☀️
My partner and I took a Bonsai class with Chris and just had the most wonderful time!! Chris was incredibly accommodating, knowledgeable, and pleasant. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you need anything for your specialty garden, Chris is your man. If you want to just start out and learn, Chris is your man. We had a fantastic date for the two of us, but doing the class would have been fun even in a group of 20 people. I’m hoping Chris and his shop will be around for a long time because I’ll be going back.
I was gifted a bonsai Dawn Redwood and LOVED it, so of course I had to go check out the place where it came from... Yall, this place is so cool! I ended up walking out with 4 other bonsais.. all different kinds. I gifted two and now have another outdoor bonsai and one for my desk at work. Walking around and exploring countless different varieties of bonsais really sparked a new hobby for me! They are absolutely beautiful, I highly recommend you stop in, even just to take a look at them! The Bonsai Guy, Chris, is so knowledgeable and down to earth. Really cool guy!Check it out!!
Pretty happy with my experience here. Both staff, including the owner, that I interacted with were helpful, friendly, and informative. The owner (Chris) could not have been more accommodating! I absolutely recommended this place for beginning bonsai enthusiasts.
Chris is an amazing guy! He is both fun and knowledgeable and the class was never a drag. It was a pleasure to learn from him. Now that I’ve taken home a bonsai I feel like I’m going to be able to properly maintain it with all of the great instruction Chris gave. Will definitely be returning
Bought a couple for my office at work and absolutely love them
Going here was such a delight!!! I went there thinking I knew a *smidge* about the art of Bonsai... But I discovered so much knowledge!! He took the time to help me find the perfect bonsai for my home to include assisting in ensuring I pick the proper plant for its location. When I found the plant, but wasnt entirelyyyy sold on the pot, he even went so far as to repot it into one he had that I loved. While he did that, he let me customize the other plant I picked out, a little lava rock and a week but of moss and it felt like I had an whole experience! Im so glad I stopped by. It was incredible.
There are tons of plants to choose from, and Chris, the owner, is super knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful! He gives you a care card when you purchase a plant and even puts his cell number on there in case you have questions. If thats not good customer service, I dont know what is! Will definitely be going back!
Amazing selection of bonsai. The classes are fun.
Used to be an alright guy but not so much anymore.. Hes very bigheaded and thinks he is above all of us other hobbyists. Buy online for cheaper and better quality that hasnt been hacked up. Wish he truly followed what bonsai means.
Went to The Bonsai Guy/Classic Rock Coffee date night, had a great time creating our own bonsai tree & learning about the art form! Bonsai Guy is very knowledgeable & kind.
We had so much fun taking a bonsai class from Chris! He was super knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. We learned a lot and had a great time.
I met Chris and Tracey yesterday as I passed their place of business while walking my dog - they dont know me as I have not yet been inside their store but they quickly offered to fetch their garden hose so my very thirsty pup could have a drink. Its always refreshing to encounter people who genuinely care for others, especially when theres absolutely nothing in it for them.
Chris was very welcoming and helped so much with the selection of the tree I took home! We will definitely be returning!
I was gifted a bonsi from a very important person to me unfortunately I forgot to water it before a camp trip. I took the bonsi to Chris hoping that he could save it. The tree dis not make it. Chris has a very big heart and I could tell that this affected him almost as much as if affected me. He wanted to put me another tree together realizing that it wouldnt be the same. He promised to make it something special. He gave me a really good deal on a tree that was the exact same. Now I know this tree will never be the one that I lost but I now enjoy the hobby of keeping it growing. So there it is. I recommend Chris. He is a very busy person there so if you do decide to go keep that in mind. Its not an in and out kinda shop.
My friend and I dropped by because we saw it as we drove by. We met the owner and we were chatting with him while we were looking around.
Great environment; always changing!! Classes is where I started and are great to attend :)
