Bought some snowboard boots here years ago. Had some questions on the manufacturer warranty, and they were quick to respond and provide recommendations - and even the original receipt which I had long lost. Highly recommend based on their customer service, quality, and selection.

Beautiful store packed with name brand outdoor clothing. The products are mostly higher end performance garments but there’s something here for everyone. I was able to get the perfect shoes after looking at numerous shoe stores. Colton listened to what I was looking for and brought me a pair to try. I’m in love with these shoes and will never go to state college without stopping here.

Took my skis in on a Friday for a wax and sharpen. Asked to have them back by the next Tuesday before my trip down to Blue Knob. Appalachian had them ready the very next day. Good price, good quality of work, and excellent service.

They have 2 sales a year where you can save really big but your discount is determined by drawing a poker chip out of a bag (color determines discount).The staff are very patient and are actual outdoor types who can really help you decide whats best for you.

Used to love this place—awesome gear and some nice people. But, I’ve had some repeated bad experiences here recently. They ordered me the wrong parts for ski boots and gave me quite a bit of misinformation (I think they’re just not super educated on gear). The real thing that has me frustrated is their return policy: if you’re planning on buying gear here, just know that you can’t return it if you’ve tried it and decide it doesn’t fit or doesn’t work (as opposed to ANY other outdoor retailer, like REI which will take returns up to a YEAR after you buy it if you’re dissatisfied). I bought Blundstones here last week (a hefty $200) and after wearing them once, decided they didn’t fit and brought them back to get the next size up. Not only were all of their employees and managers absurdly rude to me, they told me I couldn’t return them because I’d worn them outside (a policy NOBODY told me about when I bought the boots) and suggested I buy the next size up and try to sell my current ones on EBay. Not sure who would go $400 in the hole for some boots, but they’ve got me regretting ever supporting them and wishing I’d bought Blundstones from ~any~ other retailer, as they are the only outdoor company I’ve ever heard of with such a stingy return policy. I am moving out of State College soon and this store is one of things Ill miss the most. Friendly, knowledgable staff with great products, wide variety, and a great relationship with the community. First Fridays here are the best, and they have interesting speakers and shoe demo events on a pretty regular basis. My go-to for hiking boots, trail running shoes, outdoor apparel, maps, camping equipment, trail food, ski gear, backpacks...I am always looking for an excuse to wander in.

This was the best customer service Ive ever had. The staff actually listened to what I liked/disliked about my old gear and recommended the perfect stuff. (And it wasnt to upsell me). I dealt with three different guys and they were all amazing. They also took the time to answer questions about local trails and such. At a recent visit, the associates took extra time to work with me to help choose a backpack. They are very knowledgeable and worked with me to choose the right size and then took time to make sure the fit was right and I knew how to use it. I am very impressed with this company. The shipment arrived on time and was very well packaged to ensure the items were not damaged in transit. Not every company goes above and beyond to make sure items are packed correctly for shipment. I know it takes extra time and there is an added cost for the additional packaging. The fact that this company/shipping department made this added effort is greatly appreciated and I will definitely place more orders with them in the future.

Staff is super friendly! Usually multiple staff members greet you as you walk in. They are very knowledgeable of their products and offer great suggestions to find just what you need for hiking, camping, skiing, etc.I love shopping here because I trust the staff and their knowledge. They also rent certain things out so you dont always have to buy something brand new to go on an adventure.You can probably get some of their products elsewhere for cheaper, but its worth spending a few extra bucks on the local economy!

I live in Utah and was looking everywhere (in store and online) for a particular color sweater. Couldnt find it anywhere and then in my searching I saw Appalachian Outdoors had it on their website. I immediately ordered it and received a call asking about the order to insure there was no fraud (having an account different from my address location i Utah). I greatly appreciately the fact that they did this and I received the order in 48 hours. Such fast service and great customer service! Wish I knew about this place when I actually lived in PA. I made an order from this company that supposed to get shipped next day per conversation with them.Three days later I have to call them and ask why dont I see the shipment. They acknowledged the mistake and it was shipped the same day.Two days later shipment arrived (Wednesday 2nd half of the day) and one of the items arrived was not the one I ordered.My vacation starts on Fri night, so I called them on Wednesday and explained the situation.They offered to return the wrong item for refund and only than they can send correct one which will be only after my vacation. Receiving correct item after vacation that supposed to be used during vacation - had no point.I asked them if I can pay separately for the correct item and deal with wrong item later while sending correct item overnight, they answer was - it wont arrive on time. Find it elsewhere. I ironically asked if overnight item sent on Thu wont arrive on Fri, the answer was - it wont arrive on time. Eventually, I was told that we are going in circles and phone call was ended on their end.I understand sometimes people make mistakes and may send wrong items. I understand this company is not Amazon and cant correct mistakes in the same fashion fast. But what is not alright is rudeness - hanging the phone, avoiding the answers and making fool of people.You got to realize nowadays you cant get out from such behavior unnoticed. And I want to put you on notice.You made a mistake, correct it but dont make a fool of people

I went in looking to buy hiking boots for the first time in my life and the staff was so helpful with sizing, and advice on which brands would be good for me and my skill level. They sell quality clothing, so I always feel good about buying from them. They are a little pricey, but everything they sell is worth paying the extra money.

I used to think - man this place is crazy expensive, but they have the best of everything!Am I ever going to need an ax with a handle carved by hand and a head hammered into shape by some gnarly dude who lives in the woods a thousand miles from civilization? Dont order from Appalachian OUtdoors unless you want to be charged for items not in stock and not refunded for your purchase. And good luck talking to someone to correct the problem. Either no one will answer or they will tell you to call back later if you are lucky enough to get someone on the phone. I am filing a fraud claim with my CC company in hopes of recovering the money taken by Appalachian Outdoors for product I never recieved.

Complete scammers! Appalachian Outdoors will take your order, take your money, and then never deliver. Have repeatedly tried to get a refund for missing and wrong items but emails are not replied to and phone calls end up with reps hanging up on you. No matter how good the deal looks, it is worthless if you dont get what you ordered. If the price is too good to be true then it likely is a scam. Dont make the mistake I did - avoid these crooks!

This place made me feel like a criminal. Placed an online order and got no email confirmation. Followed up and was told the website had a cyber attack, and so my order was mistakenly cancelled as fraudulent. Was told Id get a follow-up call to resolve, and I did not. When I emailed, I was told Id have to re-order the items...fine, but one of the items was then almost double the original price. I emailed to request the original price be honored but never heard from them again. Ive never had so much trouble trying to give a retailer money.

Top notch gear, apparently hand selected by the owners and staff. My only quibble is that if youre a big guy, like me, you might be out of luck with some of the fitting. Thats an industry-wide problem, though, and not to blame this well-run establishment.
