What a fantastic experience!I really enjoyed the atmosphere... ever-so-slightly elevated without being stuffy at all.The space is a rehabbed historical storefront with expertly curated drinks and tasty small plates. My partner and I enjoyed the charcuterie platter, and I’ve included a picture of the menu as we found it last weekend.Gluten-free friendly! And the staff is accommodating and friendly.10/10, would visit again.
“Stopped by on our way home from Tennessee. We couldn’t have loved this place more! The margarita is so unique and refreshing. Beer selection is amazing. Food selection is great and so fresh. We will definitely be back in the future. Keep doing what you’re doing! It’s so evident you put a ton of thought and effort into your business. This place is a gem.”
I am a Staunton resident and frequent visitor to Green Room. I like the place. Decor is modern and pleasant. Serivce is friendly and welcoming. There is are interesting and well planned wine and craft beer selection. The snack plates and baguettes are tasty. (My favorite is the pate baguette one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten.) I particularly enjoy week-end visits when my friends and I can take advantage of the outdoor seating on Beverley Street. I have only one problem: the five-dollar corkage charge on bottles of wine I order. Its not the five bucks I mind; its the unpleasant jolt when I get the check. I could understand if you were charging corkage on bottles brought in from outside, but not on bottles you sell. You dont charge extra for beer or wine by the glass, and my usually generous tip pays for the service. If the charge is for opening the bottle and washing the glasses, just include it in the price of the wine. If you are selling the bottle unopened for take-out, give a five-dollar discount. Your competition, Yelping Dog, down the street doesnt charge corkage on their bottles. Dont spoil your customers otherwise-great experience with an unexpected and slightly unpleasant little surprise at the end.
Delicious drinks and food, but plan to wait a bit. We ordered the smallest board, and waited so long we thought surely the waitress had forgotten about us (our drinks had also been sitting empty for quite some time). When we flagged her down and asked about it, her response was sharp and unkind. It was very off putting. It’s a beautiful space, and everything we ordered was amazing. Unfortunately, the unpleasant wait staff really tainted the experience.
The food was ok and not a lot for your buck. The wine is absolutely amazing but the server kept forgetting us. The olives tasted like perfume and they took a long time to get us crackers and a bottle to go. If I were to go back I would just buy some wine and leave. Also the $5 wine is just a little bit a wine in a glass. Just buy a bottle.
My wife and I have our date night on average once a week at The Green Room. If youre any bit of a craft beer lover, this is a must visit/frequent. Phenomenal and diverse selection of beer you wont find anywhere else! Not to mention the rustic gourmet sandwiches are incredible. They sound like theyll be petite and unfilling, however Im a large dude, and they are PERFECT! The friendliest staff in the city/surrounding area. Knowledgeable and kindest owners as well! Couldnt recommend more!
Went there on a slower night, and had a great time. A fantastic drink menu focusing on a wide variety of beer and cider, with more than enough wine selection to satisfy those who prefer that for their drinks.Their food was great, and well designed for those who want something to eat while they drink, or for a light meal. And that staff I interacted with were all fantastic people, very knowledgeable and passionate about what they are doing. Plan to go back some day soon.
Absolutely love this place! Amazing food, great beer selection and a wonderful staff. You need to try this place!
I absolutely love this spot. It’s got all the feels of a swanky shop you’d find in Brooklyn mixed with the warm fuzzies you can only feel in a small town. Also the crew is awesome, especially Adrienne. She is a rock star. If you find yourself out that way, do yourself a favor and swing by the green room!
Great staff and selection. Food was awesome too. Very nice environment.
Excellent selection of modern wine and beer along with euro cafe food options (baguette sandwiches, charcuterie boards, etc.) The staff is awesome as well.
A gem in downtown Staunton. Small, high quality snack, charcuterie, and freshly made sandwich menu in a space that’s been carefully designed. We’ll be back!
What a cool little shop! A small but great selection of beers, and it was fun to chat beers
Such a cool place. Huge selection of hard-to-find beers available on tap, bottle, and can. Super friendly staff. We really enjoyed the tater tots!
Our favorite place in Staunton! The owner is so personable and makes everyone feel welcome. Always has a sour beer on tap and many more available in cans! The best place to go if youre looking to purchase craft beers.
We loved this place! Such a nice little spot. We stopped in for a drink and some charcuterie. Their selection of drinks and appetizers did not disappoint. The inside is clean and the staff is friendly. Would definitely stop in again if we are ever back in town.
The Green Room has been our go-to bar since they opened, but watching them work through a pandemic and see how hard they strive for the safety of their customers while maintaining total excellence is nothing short of incredible.Literally everything on their menu is good, from the duck fat tater tots to the custom cheese and meat boards, which are works of art. I dont know how they manage to maintain such a diverse, surprising, delicious beer collection - they consistently have cans and drafts Ive never seen anywhere else in the valley. You can tell how much careful consideration goes into the list. The lineup is frequently changing, never stale, and always exciting.Lastly, Benj and Lauren are incredible people. Creative, passionate, and focused on running their shop with integrity. Also, how cool is it to hang out at a bar owned and run by a family of Shakespeare actors?
Always a nice experience. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. A nice selection of drinks and the eats are great. Very relaxed atmosphere. 10/10
Stopped in from out of town. They had great beer and wine selection that would be hard to find. Atmosphere was nice and would go back
I stopped by for a pre-dinner drink on a Tuesday night stay in Staunton and couldnt have enjoyed the comfortable, understated and inviting space more. The friendly, knowledgeable owner has assembled a great selection of beer (especially IPAs) and wine. Next visit, Ill try the food.
Excellent beer and wine choices. The owners do a fantastic job! Always a favorite stop for us in Staunton.
Amazing beer selection, elegant decor that manages to be warm and comfortable (not an easy feat!) complemented by snack food that puts a classy twist on old favorites? The green room is everything it promised! The thought that goes into the small details is noticed and thoroughly appreciated.
We had never been to Staunton, but decided to stay at a BnB on the way through. This place was amazing and exceeded our expectations. There was an amazing selection of craft beer along with great cocktails and food.
Went here with my wife and had a great time. Thanks again
Not only is the atmosphere amazing, the owners are almost always working and are delightful human beings. They will make sure you are well taken care of and that you feel special in their establishment. Green Room is always my first choice in Staunton.
One of my favorite new bars and eateries in the area. Low key but elegant ambience and great snacks and drinks. Fantastic owners!
Nice to have a place in town with great craft beer! Owner is a great guy and always keeps a good variety
Best beer selection for miles! Nice food options too.
Perfect venue for small groups of friends to have good times with good drinks
My sister and I had a lovely time here! The staff are helpful and the owner is very kind and helpful as well and could give us information about the wine. I love that they are a smoke free bar in staunton open until 12am three nights a week! It is a fun and lively atmosphere and I cannot wait to go back!
The Green Room has quickly become our absolute favorite weekend get away spot. The owners aesthetic and attention to uniquely crafted food and drink is second to none! A must do when in Staunton!
This is a wonderful new addition to downtown Staunton. Great wine and beer selections. We tried the warm cashews and “deviled” eggs tonight and they were exquisite! Do yourself a favor and check this place out!
The owners of The Green Room are really awesome and its great to talk with them every time I go in! Great wine, beer and fancy mocktail selection. Tasty food too. Its just what Staunton needed. I love the feeling this bar has, I feel safe and it has a relaxed vibe. Definitely go check them out if you are downtown!
Great options for beer and wine with friendly and fast service! Delicious food too!
Great place to hang out after dinner or after a show at Blackfriars Playhouse. Ben the owner is really cool guy, very personable and knowledgeable. Great new spot to hang in town.
Great food and drinks in this cozy and friendly spot.
Modern and friendly with quality service and a curated selection of beverages and menu items that caters to every palate. Im looking forward to many return visits.
What a treat! For 4 folks, this was a perfect spot to venture into a young couple’s passion for culinary exposé. The wine bottle list is a great way to go; Priced well below expectations to promote exploration of unique varietals. Small plates encourage sharing. We coursed 7 small plates and a charcuterie spread, plus 2 bottles ($11 & $27). All leaving satisfied!Must haves.. Salmon dish on toast, Warm Olives.. however, my best recommendation is to go with a group and order everything on the menu!!
The drinks and atmosphere was incredible, and the cheese and food was delicious. This is a great place to hang out with friends and have a fun time.
Fantastic little location right in the heart of downtown Staunton! Friendly team and quality menu items! A must-visit!
Ergonomic: thats what flashed through my mind on my third or fourth visit. And on further reflection, its still the best word I can come up with to encompass the experience of the green room. Functional yet very comfortable, no frills yet plenty of accommodation...ergonomic.The blonde wood, the exposed brick wall, the clean lines everywhere, should give the interior an atmosphere somewhere between industrial, Spartan, and IKEA. But somehow, the green room has more personality and warmth than that. Maybe its the retro bulbs and indirect lighting giving a nice glow to the interior. Maybe its the lived-in tidiness of the open kitchen. Maybe its the living room-style seating areas near the windows. Maybe its the most comfortable bar stools Ive ever experienced, Im not sure. But what might in other new establishments appear to be incomplete or work-in-progress, in the green room it seems appropriate. Sure, the walls *might* look better filled with art, but they dont suffer for currently being more bare. Nothing plush, nothing lacking, fitting with what you need in the moment; ergonomic. This continues to the service and the staff. Its a family-run business and makes no bones about it, but everyone here knows the finer points of service and how to comport themselves before the public. (This is a business with a theater lineage, after all.) Everyone is genuine and attentive, but not obsequious (like some other new service staff in the area). And as the menu currently says, our kitchen is small | our staff is small | our business is small [...] thank you for your patience. Youll occasionally have to wait to catch someones eye or have a dish finished, but its apparent in the open format space that your wait isnt due to lack of drive or attentiveness. And anyways, thats how the establishment bills itself, as a place to relax and refresh; if youre looking to scoot in and out for a very quick bite, this isnt what you want right now (though to be fair, nowhere downtown really accommodates that, currently). But, if you want to step into a retreat from the touristy aspects of town, or escape the library for studying, or enjoy some small plates before the theater, or just want to meet up in a non-smoking late night location, theyve got you covered here. The food and beverage selection is deceptively unassuming. It might be tempting to dismiss any labels and brands you dont recognize as some Millennial/hipster showiness, but the reasonable prices dont support that mindset. Similarly the menu items, which might seem simple or which might elicit an, I could do that at home, response. On tasting, Ive had to accept that, first, I *havent* done it at home; and second, if I had, I wouldnt have had such well- chosen ingredients. Thats why the labels and brands might not be familiar: because the owners have sought out the best tasting and best quality ingredients they could at a low enough price point to keep their menu affordable and accessible. And if you feel like you *would* make these treats at home if you had those ingredients, you might find them among the retail shelves on the back wall. The green room doesnt have hard liquor, but it doesnt need it. The selection of wine, beer, and cordials (and non-alcoholic offerings) covers a pretty wide palate, and anyway, you wont be coming here if you wanted to get messed up and to paint the town red. The green room doesnt offer big entrees, but it doesnt need it. There are plenty of full-scale restaurants on the strip, the green room doesnt need that competition. What the green room needs, though, is some time to wear in. Not time to improve or fix problems, but time to settle and get that lived-in feel. The best theatrical green rooms Ive been in demonstrate the same attention to neatness, and care for those visiting, as the green room does. This green room just needs that lived-in character that only comes from use by people who value it as place to pause and relax for a moment. I expect the green room will live more than long enough to settle in so.
Very impressed with the retail can selection.
Fantastic wine list, wonderful atmosphere — an absolute gem of a place and a wonderful addition to Staunton’s downtown.
Wonderful bartenders and great drink options.
Such a clean and laid back atmosphere!
Delicious!
