I recently bought a boat with an older outboard which was junk. I found a newer model but still older than most shops in the Gig Harbor area would work on. I tried just about every shop and none of them would take in a motor 15 years old. Then I found Dr. D by word of mouth ( at least 5 folks told me to call him) I found his statement online about fixing up your grandfathers outboard when no one else would.I called and got on the waiting list (3-4 weeks). He called as soon as it was my turn and I dropped off the boat right away. He kept me informed every step of the way as he found problems and gave me quotes as to the repairs. Before he worked on it the motor would start and run fairly well but out on the water it would not run up above about 2400 rpm and would not get up on plane. It would miss, back-fire and sometimes just shut down.Dr. D found multiple problems by the second day he had it in hi shop. he called to give me the details of what he had found wrong and options and estimates for repair. By the end of the week He called to say it was ready for sea trials which I did. It ran GREAT! No issues at all.I was very impressed with his knowledge of outboards and what to look for to correct problems. I highly recommend this shop and Dr. D for any type of problem you may have. I will certainly be back in the future.

If you want the job done right - see the Dr!! I brought my 1983 7.5 Evinrude to Dr D and he really did a fantastic job! Everything was checked and he briefed me on what was done and showed me the worn out parts. I dont think I have had this good of service on any of the many outboards I have owned. I highly recommend him. 5 plus stars!!

I dropped off a 5hp mercury outboard at Dr. D outboard shop. It had laid in the boat with fuel for at least 10 years. It now runs, and runs like new. Very happy, happy with the service, and happy with the price. Thank you Dr. D.

After searching through all the local Tacoma outboard shops, Doctor D’s Marine Outboard shop is the best place i could have taken our Merc 9.9 outboard. Got it running like new. Gave me lots of free advice, maintenance pointers, fair price, and fast service too. Thanks, Dr. D!

I purchased Tristin Jones Sea Dart this last summer without a motor. The boat has a very small motor well at the back of the cockpit that simply will not accommodate new 4 stroke motors. Hanging a transom mount on this historical boat was a last resort. When I showed up at Dr. Ds with a plywood mockup of the motor well Dwight spent some serious time helping me explore options. Having identified the limited number of motor types possible he searched the internet and exchanged text messages the next day. When I purchase a motor it will go directly to Dr. D for a check up. Great experience!

He has worked on two personal outboards of mine and I have never had a problem with his work, his manners or his professionalism. His work is litteraly top shelf and it is warrantied...how many times do you see that from a small business?!?!?It irritates me when shady folks slander a business for no reason! Whomever you are, you obviously haven’t had any work through him. If you had you would know he is honest and fair. Wether the news is good, bad or ugly he will let you know straight up before he comences the repair.He has even turned my business down because he knew it was more money to repair than it was worth to start with, and he let me know that before he started work. He obviously could have repaired it but at the end of the day it wouldn’t have been worth it. He told me that if it had sentimental or collector value he would repair it but it would cost more than a running used used online.It was tough news to swallow at the time but I am thankful he was honest enough to tell me upfront before i spent a bunch of money. He even gave me pointers for buying a used motor and what to watch for and look for.I would and have trusted nobody else to repair my personal engines and I won’t need to look for anybody else either. Really the man has gone well above and beyond what is expected of him!

Dr D is my go to guy for all of my outboard services. Really glad i was reccomended to him from a friend and I will continue to take my motor only to Dr D for all repairs/services. I highly recommend anyone who is looking for a mechanic to go to this shop.
