I played Hlaman often many years ago, but my recent visits have been delightful, with all the improvements and changes, it is now well worth the trip. A peaceful gem inside the city. Played the other day with my son, and want to play more often. Spoke to the Pro (I think her name was Jan), and asked about a Beginner League. Hope they restart something like that again soon.

If youre planning on going to Hilaman for the range, go anywhere else. They dont tell you that its a mat day until after youve payed and they dont maintain the rubber mat tees. Today when I was there, not a single mat had a useable rubber tee. Dont plan on teeing anything up if you go.

I never usually write reviews, especially negative ones, but wow... I have played at this course a handful of times before with no issues, but just had the worst experience that left me embarrassed that I brought a group of friends here to golf. We arrived 40 minutes before our 3:20 tee time. The course attendee was the rudest staffer I have ever experienced on a golf course, older gentleman with a small scruff. He chastised us on the putting circle saying we were way behind and need to leave. After he checked the time and saw how far off he was, he continued to be unnecessarily rude. He gave one of our golfers a hard time about getting his own cart when we were signing the cart waivers (which did not previously exist and we have never had problems having our own carts). We ended up teeing off at 3:04 on a disgusting, terribly maintained course. Tee boxes were all sand. Greens in horrible shape, leaves all over it. We werent even finished with 7 holes before somebody came to us saying it was almost time to turn carts in. In addition to teeing off 15 minutes before our schedules tee time and playing a scramble with our group, somehow we continued to have other groups riding our a** the entire way. How is that possible when we were that early and only playing the best drives? Terrible management. Perhaps the gentleman riding the golf cart watching the putting circle could have directed the flow of golfers and made sure people started at the right time, but I guess he wanted to get home 15 minutes early. We wanted to talk to somebody before leaving about this experience, but the cashier at the pro shop left without acknowledging us and all that was left was the kid cleaning the carts who couldnt do anything about the situation. Course management left for the day with active golfers on the course and doesnt seem to care. Could not even come remotely close to playing 18. If management cares about their customers, they will reach out to remedy the situation. We shall see what happens.The course attendee must be talked to. I always try to form relationships at courses I visit frequently. This guy has been terrible each time I have been here.

Very nice public course. The greens are in wonderful shape and the course has beautiful scenery. Very much worth the price.

This is possibly one of the worst ran courses in Florida and definitely the worst out of the range of courses I have been to. Paid to play 18 holes at a 3:20 tee time and was rushed onto the course at 3:00 by a worker. Secondly, the front 9 holes were closed down despite the email saying they were redoing the holes one at a time. The back 9 holes are designed horribly with a beaten down cart path to compliment it. Since the front 9 were closed only got to play the back 9 despite paying for 18 and was rushed out of the course by 5:30. Staff offered no rain check nor a refund despite allowing us to only play 9 holes. Staff claimed the rates for 9 holes and 18 holes was the same which is a completely lie and if it’s true then that makes this place even more terrible. Never has any course I been to charged the same rate for 9 and 18 holes. Will not be going back to this course unless there is some major changes and reform to the course and staff. Do not recommend to people in Tallahassee, I’d try a nicer club such as Southwood.

I played there on 10/22/20.The course was in very good condition and not too difficult.Greens were very good.Good layout.Some holes with doglegs. Doglegs in both directions.I was allowed to walk the course with a push cart, which was good equipment and available at Hilaman before my round.Good, low price for an 18 hole round. Affordable.Many young people on the course.Slow pace on the course.Long driving range with a mat.Practice putting green was good.I rate Hilaman a 4.2 on a 5 point scale and grade it a B.I recommend playing there.

I went to the clubhouse for an anniversary dinner. The clubhouse was perfect for the amount of people there, and we all practiced social distancing. The bartender was friendly and knowledgable.

Pleasantly surprised. The course is maintained better than some private courses. It is a very forgiving course and enjoyable. The clubhouse and patio are under construction, but everyone is vey friendly and helpful.They do need to put of signage to direct players to the holes. The directions can be a bit complicated and there are no signs directing new players which can create a little confusion

No Marshals on the course. Player etiquette is awful and play is slow. People in sixomes getting drunk and driving up next to the green.

The back 9 are quite worth the price of playing. Really nice course and well maintained. The food on the 19th is really great as well.

This is one of the worst courses I’ve been to. Tee boxes are horribly managed, almost like trying to hit off a beach. We had a 3:20 tee time and we were rushed to get out, as if we didn’t show up 30 minutes early. We paid for 18 holes online, yet when we were approaching hole 9, we were told we had to have carts in by 5:30, meaning we only played 9 holes. This is completely unacceptable, I work at a golf course, and this isn’t how things should be done. On top of that, the front 9 was closed, and the pro shop was closed so we couldn’t talk to anybody to receive a refund. Really hope I can get my money back. Quite the shame.

It was a very beautiful course and it was challenging the greens are fast so be prepared and be accurate with every shot over all it was amazing a must play if your in the area

A Hidden Gem!This course is super fun, I went out to play just 9 before a tournament and found myself loving this place.

Great greens, Super friendly staff and grounds keepers wearing pink shirts supporting breast cancer. Cant say enough about this little gem.Excellent food and great selection.Well done!

For a municipal course, it is awesome. Back 9 more challenging than the front 9 - and more difficult. Great day of golf for your money. 18 holes - 38 bucks. Good deal.

Went to the driving range here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Drove around some of the holes and they looked very interesting. Dont get caught in one of the sand traps. Very hilly and it looks like a tough coarse.

I give the peace of mind I get from the view 5 stars and how nice the golfers are out there... But unfortunately Ive been told I can not sit by the water on the course anymore because itsdangerous. If you ask me I dont care if I get hit with a ball it be my fault for putting myself out there in the first place Im not going to sue anybody! That is where God comes to meet me is on that Golf Course and I really enjoy it out there Im not worried about getting hit with a ball just got hit by a car the other day so what whats a ball going to do?

Great improvements not only at the club house but the course is in great condition. The new traps and bunkers are outstanding. The staff was very friendly. I look forward to playing at this course often. Its worth the hour drive from my house. Cant wait for the restaurant to open.

Course itself- very fun and playable. The greens are in great shape. Everything else- subpar. There is no 9-hole rate, something Ive never heard of other than for twilight hours. Under renovation so no place to eat or drink, almost nothing in the pro shop. Enjoyable but not worth the $50 to walk 9 holes with a friend

Really great public course. Ive only done the driving range so far, but the staff are very nice and helpful, and the prices make this place a steal if you want to spend some hours outdoors.

In town visiting and wanted get some practice in. Cant wait to play the course next trip. Brandon in the Pro Shop was outstanding! Extremely personable, informative and friendly. I would return to the course because if him without seeing the course.

Threw a party in the club house (Electric Phils) and the food was phenomenal! Its a small staff so theres a bit of a wait when ordering food but its more than worth it! The outside deck was perfect for the cigar smokers in our group and the children enjoyed running around in the lawn.

I went here for a Birthday party! The place was very clean. The bathrooms are clean as well.

Best public course in the Tallahassee panhandle area. Rolling hills and pine trees outline this course with improved bunkers and greens.

I am from out of town and the course was really nice and especially the fairways. The course offered a variety of holes so you never got bored. Also the staff was very friendly and the beverage cart lady was very nice and always said hello and waited for you to take your shot. I recommend it for everyone in the Tallahassee area and even if you are coming from out of town like I did.

Only played the front 9, I liked the layout but the greens were a little sandy.

Ive been playing here for years and the course is in really great shape right now. City owned and theyre doing a great job. Clubhouse remodeling going on. Looking forward to seeing it complete. Only negative: many of the sand traps are quite hard.

Good good for a public course. It seems the greens are constantly undergoing treatments and improvements. Many people don’t fix their divots and ball marks. Good value for the price. Only irons can be used at the driving range. The pro shop and grill are recently updated. I did have a couple run-ins with an older, cranky course marshall trying to kick me off the course well before sundown.

Clubhouse just remodeled and a good event space. Golf course looks great too.

Fun awesome course with an even better little grill. Great sandwiches and beer on tap. Refreshing after a long morning of golf.

Beautiful 18 to walk, the 18th hooks around to the 19th hole so effortlessly. Must be an early RTJ design!

Great price for seniors, just $20. Course was in good shape. Pretty busy. Very slow play on second nine. No apparent oversight by a course ranger.

On 7/31/18, greens are really improving. Roughs are tall due to all the rain. A great layout!

Absolutely horrible! Huge bottleneck at the 10th hole. Greens were terrible. People playing in blue jeans and other inappropriate attire. The place was a joke, even for a public course.

They hold a nice country club, not too pricey and has a bar called Electric Phils that serves $2 wells/drafts.

This golf course is magical for numerous reasons, the prices are beyond fair, and the staff is above par. The last time we played we witnessed 2 different turtles laying their eggs, along with a baby frog migration. Im talking hundreds of frogs.If youre paying 20 dollars after 4 p.m, you get what you pay for. This course exceeded all of those expectations. Hillaman is a great place to crush a golf ball and fight a sand trap with Matt Porter. Plus, you may get to see things in nature youve never seen befofe, this course is obviously the land that time forgot. TWO TURTLES LAYING EGGS, ON THE SAME DAY, IN DIFFERENT LOCATIONS. COME ON!!!!!!!!

Playing here is akin to clown golf. The tee boxes fluctuate between sand and pristine, the ranger is rude and tries to intimidate people. Had the nerve to ask if my group paid after they rushed us to start a full 15mins early. The tee times are a joke. After being started 15mins early we where sandwiched between too group with no where to go. They act as if it’s the customers issue they oversold the day. Home of the Tallahassee Open, Hilaman Park is fairly short (6000 yards), but lots of fun... unless your shots go left. Left is out of bounds for practically every hole on this course. It can get to you on a bad day. The course is well maintained given its year round traffic from local hackers, but greens can be spoty depending on if they aerated greens or killed the winter rye. A new Caddie Shack opened in 2018 serving pub grub and drinks. Emails specials make this the golf bargain of Tallahassee.

Communications are lacking with certain, clubs that play regularly. Not all members are being notified of when tournaments are scheduled, thus making some not getting the message, and subsequently arriving at Tee time, to find there is no Golf for that group!!
