My wife and I have been shopping for a 12Passenger van for our family. We found one here and they made the buying process so easy. We got a great price and the van is perfect for our family of eight. I never felt like I was being sold they let me inspect the van test drove it with just my wife and we never felt pressure at all. I would not hesitate to buy from them again. Thanks for a good buying experience.
Very unhappy with this place and Mark and Marvin. I bought a 1999 Dodge ram van and 4 days later the motor was blown. Valve was covered in oil and there was a crack in the head and a blown Intake manifold. I was headed on a 30 day US tour for the band Sham 69 and they knew this. I trusted them and they took advantage by letting me pay full price in cash to them and knowing that it had this damage. I limped the van to Detroit and took it to a Truck dealer in Detroit who told me the motor was blown and i was lucky to make it there alive. I had 8 bad plugs, leaking none bolted in water pump, blown Manifold gasket, broken oil sensor, bad distributor cap and rotor, it was eating oil 5 quarts every 200miles on my way to Detroit, no ground on the alternator they installed, they intake manifold had a crack which exploded all over me and the inside of the van when i opened the cowl. I called and they said it was unfortunate and they would not even help me get the van home. I lost 5200 on the van 1200 on a van rental, 1200 on a used motor that has to be installed and tow costs to the shop. DO NOT BUY HERE. I will be taking this to court if they do not help me pay for the damages and loss of wages i have suffered.
Best trucks a round. Good work vehicles.

Nice selection/variety of pre-owned vehicles.
I flew from Los Angeles to Florida to purchase a 6.6L Chevy Express 15 passenger van. I needed a van that could tow my travel trailer and hold my family comfortably. I called Shumate and told Shumate them how serious I was about purchasing the van. Shumate gave me their word and held the van for a week until I could gather the funds and set up my flight. I flew in, Shumate picked me up from the airport, got to the dealer, I furnished the funds and was in and out of the dealer in 10 minutes. Right away I drove off to Los Angeles! No issues at all, the van was solid from Florida to California. I highly recommend purchasing from Shumate! Thank you Shumate for a great vehicle and an easy transaction.
Excellent!!! I just bought a truck from Shumate Truck Center last week. I will admit I was a bit hesitant considering some of the negative reviews posted here already. Id emailed Mark about a truck I was interested in. We negotiated the out the door price over email in 2 days. That second day I arrived to check out the truck. When I arrived on site I spoke to Mark. He gave me the keys and a dealer tag and told me to take all the time I needed. Ive never had that kind of trust on-pressure truck sale ever. I know a bit about vehicles, and the truck checked out. I paid the previously agreed upon out the door price, and I was out the door in 45 mins. It was probably the best vehicle buying experience Ive had. That being said, I know vehicles, and I dont care about pretty. I care about mechanically sound, and the vehicle maintenance being taken care of on schedule, etc... The truck I bought had some cosmetic blemishes, but on the mechanical side it was a previous fleet vehicle, that was meticulously maintained. Because of that, I score a great truck that I can put another 250K miles on for well below retail. My advice, if you know about vehicles, and are looking for a great truck, definitely check them out!
Great people, not your average dealer experiance. No hassles, no salespeople, family owned and operated. If you have questions they are there to answer, but not overbearing and focused on sell sell sell. Mark was great to work with. I was traveling down from Maine on vacation, he doesnt try to hide anything with his vehicles. Told me everything about the truck I was interested in, told me about any flaws. He could have easily let me buy anything and sent me on my way knowing i wasnt local. I would reccomend them, and I intend to do business here again.
Really disappointed in this family owned business. We bought our second fleet vehicle from them and on the drive home, the check engine light came on. We were getting the truck services, wrapped, and welded the moment it got back and after looking over it, and trusting the company to not clear codes, we did not think much of it. After driving it around from shop to shop to have it wrapped, them all of the bins and pipe racks welded on it and so forth, we finally got it finished a few weeks later and on the road. The second day in fleet, the truck died as my husband was driving it. We had to have it towed and brought to one local mechanic that was not able to fix it. We brought it to the next and same thing. So finally we ended at the third, had everything check out and (without looking at all of our mechanics paperwork with everything that needed to be done to get it all up and running, which we have and have already sent to them), finally were told we had to do a mass delete due to the issues with the truck, which were confirmed an ongoing preexisting thing that caused the engine line to be on and ultimately caused the truck to do. We notified Shumate of the issue and they said they would look into helping with the cost since we just purchased and it was odd that the moment we bought it the light came on. During this delete, we also had the pan replaced due to a preexisting oil leak in the truck. After all of the work done, that we paid out of pocket, we put the truck back in fleet. The next day the oil pan was still leaking. After bringing it back, it was confirmed that it was the pan that was under the motor so the entire motor had to be dropped to replace. Since the truck was wrapped, welded and more, we were stuck with it and had no choice but to spend the additional $5,000.00 to have the work done. We notified Shumate with paperwork from multiple mechanics, parts that were used, reports from all of them proving this was existing and they sold the truck and codes were flashing since we drove it home, and all of the bills/estimates. We had a few phone conversations with them, emails back and forth, but at this point they have disappeared of course. No response to emails or a call back as they promised. We understand the warranty process and are not necessarily angry about it, but we feel that $8,000.00 on a truck just purchased is insane especially since they claim not to sell vehicles like that, but here we are with one and they do not even want to return a call and say, no we will not take responsibility for it. Just beware of buying here and make sure you drive it a bit to hopefully trigger the check engine light. I would suggest bringing it to a place as well since they will not stand behind the vehicles they sell. Sad since we have had to now purchase 3 more fleet vehicles since this one and we actually thought we found a great truck center to rely on.
I was looking for a used truck for our company use. Granted to experience was not one I wanted to embark on. After visiting the center with the trucks I was treated very well and able to buy a truck like I was looking for right away. No hassles, no high pressure sales people. Working with a family like them was great. All the paperwork went well and they were very accommodating with the changes I needed. Thanks you all. You are great.
Bought vehicle out of state. They were accommodating and made everything as easy as possible. Vehicle was just as described. Friendly
Family like staff and great prices on low mileage vehicles
If i could put a zero i would i bought a van with low miles it gives me problems and he says he can’t do nothing about it i wouldn’t recommend you to come here unless you want to get ripped off like i did for 22,000$
Not sure how this “family run business” stays in business. Several times I’ve come across a vehicle these guys have listed and when I make an offer I either get no response a brief “no”. They haven’t even bothered to counter offer. I’m not low balling either. I do my research and determine a fair price and make an offer. I think they figure out what a vehicle is worth and add 25%. They now have a SUV listed for $500 less than I offered them 2 months ago. The price I offered was high but the rig is clean and the mileage is low. At this rate it’ll be at the NADA and Kelly blue book price in another month or so.
Id give less than a one(1) if I could. So, I went to purchase a used Ford from Shumate with Mark as my salesman. I wanted to take the vehicle to my mechanic to verify the vehicle was sound. Mark suggested that I had to bring my mechanic to the lot for said inspection. I stated that I needed to take the vehicle to the garage; not bring my mechanic to them. Mark stated that I needed to give them my other insured car as collateral to take their vehicle off the lot. I wouldnt be there looking to buy a vehicle if I already had one?! Anyway, I was expected to give 10k, as-is and leave out, hoping that the vehicle was in good working order. Purchasing AS-IS means NO RECOURSE. There is NO lemon law in Florida. I purchased from another dealer that gave me a 3-day buy back agreement to have their vehicle checked. Id recommend that Shumate takes note of this.SUMMARY: Do not trust AS-IS.Good Luck Family-Run Shumate Motors!Id suggest that the Shumate family members who would have worked with me are long dead and gone. The response is my demeanor wasnt appropriate? LOL, what was that?Note to potential buyers: Beware of this place.
You want junk thats over priced, check this place out.Never saw such a disorganized sakes lot
Nice people....but I am starting to believe they are running a scam. I looked at a truck they had at a good price for my business. My credit score is not the best at the moment..not horrible either. Mark told me he had some financiers that specialize in business finance . the first guy I call told me I sounded like a 25 year old kid and had no idea about credit. I am 50....bought many vehicles....homes and paid off many credit cards....went from a 750 credit score in 2008 to low 600 after market crashed....the second company seemed better and Brian said he got me approved and needed 399.00 down to secure the loan. I sent him $399.00. he sends me back papers for a LEASE...with 20% interest ....i dont want a lease I want a loan he said my credit was bad and these terms were all he could get...and the terms of the lease are probably illegal...they want access to my bank account and want to withdraw the payment each month and the terms said they can change at any time. He added taxes to each monthly payment bringing my agreed payment Amount way over my limit....and the way they want the vehicle insured is crazy....it would have made my insurance payments 500 a month. my total monthly for truck and insurance would be over $1000.00 a month. My insurance agent called them several times and was told they were out of office.....I believe they got the $399.00 and ran....now I get no answer...I wrote them and told them I got financed by FORD at 5% and they said my credit was good no problems....I need my 399 back....but no answer...stay away unless you have your own financing....I am calling Tampa PD and Pam Bondi.....
Purchased via text message and a short conversation. Honest guys and the van was actually better than I expected. They set up and had delivered 800 miles in about a week. Easiest vehicle purchase I ever had and at an excellent price.
Like all used car dealerships, you have to check out these vehicles carefully. Nice folks, family business.Update: the truck I bought has 3 main issues.1) Needed a/c repairs2) The advertised new tires have good tread but have been on the vehicle so long that they are dry rotting and cracking. Front tires are dated 2006.Worst of all...3) Did not notice during test drive but the transmission has issues and now I am going to have to have it rebuilt. Huge disappointment and expense. The thing is, these vehicles are government pre-owned and you assume maintenance has been done and basically well taken care of. On that premise you may overlook things as I did. As I stated above, be sure to check out these vehicles well just the same as any used vehicle.Prices: They took $500 off the asking price and then charged me $500 for filing fee. I guess this is the same as dealer fees in Florida. Never in my 50 years have I experienced such BS fees outside Florida.Dont expect to negotiate they dont. This is the only vehicle Ive bought where the salesman actually said go ahead and think about it. After purchasing over 20 vehicles in my life, Ive never had a salesman suggest I leave and think about it. -I guess I really should have. So, if your looking for a work truck I would still consider Shumate but, buyer beware! Take your time and even better, get a used vehicle inspection done by a mechanic.
Many trucks to choose from, fair prices, working people who sell to other working people.
We were unable to make a deal but they were helpful and courteous.
Please dont waste your money with these rip off artists. They lie and dont care about you. We bought a car from them and exactly one month to the day that we paid in full cash, the engine blew. They would not do anything about it. The son said he would talk to his father but nothing! Seriously dont waste your time or money with these crooks!!!
Wonderful place, kind people and well cared for vehicles. A bit cluttered, but over all a great place to get a vehicle.
Just bought a f350 cab and chassis. As I left the lot the truck blew up. Called and called and left voicemails. They didnt even return my call. Im now stuck with a blown up truck that had 89k miles on it. I was warned its a 6.0 by mark. I was going to take it to get bullet proofed. Didnt realize, they changed all the fluids and the head gasket was bad. So thanks for screwing me and my company. Not even a phone call back. Bought 3 trucks in the past from them. The generation handed down to these people are horrible and are in it to make a buck!BUYERS BEWARE!
I was interested in purchasing a van, they stated it had 23000 miles org.. I made an offer on it but asked if they could guarantee it really had only the stated milage.. they refused to and have not heard back from them since..I would not buy from them- odviously they wont guarantee what they list about their vehicles
I got so screwed. Owner lied about everything I asked. Had body work done a blind man could see. They unhooked battery to turn check engine light off. I work at a dealership and after 4 months still havent fixed all the problems. All tire sensors bad.speakers inop exhaust manifold broken, check engine light.suspension parts broken .holes and tears everywhere inside. Bought online and shipped unseen.took owners word on vehicle what an f---ing liar!!!
I purchased a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado and working with Marvin and his crew was a pleasure. I found them to be a fair and honest broker.
Awful customer service. I stopped by twice looking for a work Truck and they gave me the run around saying they didnt have anyone to help me . I left my phone number and never got a call back. Their loss, I bought a $14,000 truck cash at Trinity auto sales instead.
Most of the Vans were in pretty nice condition but they are all slightly overpriced.
Great place to buy a truck
Good place to get used truck
Over priced
